About R$280,00..
Hum... Cheaper than buy online in ebay (with ship and taxes)..
But if any friend came from EUA and bring to me ... Its will be cheaper
than that..
65U$ + 5U$ = 70U$ = R$195,00

Hi,

I'm not using my Lib100CT very much right now as i should. I have it
connected wireless to my network connected to the internet. All works good,
but when im at home i use my desktop :-/ ofcourse. I want to use my Lib more
then i do so i'm considering using it as a PDA. Does anyone knows a good
application that runs well on my Lib with Win98/64MB, like a good Agenda
tool (outlook express does not have this) ore other good agenda with
reminders etc. Maybe we can share and tell what we are all using our Libs
for, just to keep motivated :-) Hope to hear from you, thx!

hi,

good question - and one that I'll hijack for a related
question ;-)

I'd use my libretto for a whole lot more if I could run
a modern Linux distro on it. being very very busy (oh yes)
means that I dont have too much time to 'play around' so
I was wondering if anyone on this list could advise...

Fedora Core 1/2/3 dont work on my Libretto 50CT (32Mb, 810Mb HD)
..is this because of

1) lack of memory
2) some obscure driver issue
3) some obscure APM/ACPI wierdness

as i said, I'd love to use the box more..and I'd love to have
time to diagnose this (when I say 'doesnt work' it fails to boot
doing a standard installation method... you know, the sort of thing
you'd normally do)

in the meantime, my little Lib is running a really ancient RedHat 5.1
with 2.0.40 kernel. its kinda geeky and quirky I guess... but none
of the serious tools I need to use day to day will work with such
an old libc and compile environment :-|

I'd also like to try one of those 3G cards with it..but no chance
without newer distro tools etc

Alan

I had a 50ct, a 70 ct and now I'm using my 110CT as my main Notebook.
I Sold my Dell Latitude D500 w/512MB to buy A Sony TR3AP2, but while I'm
earning money to buy this one, I'm using my libby.
I've tried w2k in a 70ct but it runs sooo slow that I put back w98, but
in 110ct, with 64MB, w2k runs very well.
I have a 3com, wifi lan card, an adaptect PCMCIA with 2 USB ports where I
connect my microsoft optical mouse and my Ipaq. As a lawyer, I have to type
a lot in work and use an external keyboard, PS/2, connected in the port
replicator, and a external monitor to magnify the screen.
I'm really very happy with it, my battery is working fine (about 2 hs) and I
let my power in the office and put the libretto in my regular briefcase. It
is really a fantastic machine.

Well... talking with Philip offlist, I may just scrap
the idea of setting up W2K on my L70. It seems it's
just not going to run W2K fast enough to satify me. I
went back into the archives, and found an old thread
on the topic, and found a number of people saying they
had W2K installed on their L70s, and that it was
running fine.

However, last year I remember people saying they had
WinXP installed on their L110s, and that it ran fine
for them. Even with XP tweaked to the max, it was
just too slow at most things for my patience.

Anyone have any feedback on pushing W2K hard on a L70,
and having it perform reasonably fast?

So I guess I'm going to have to rebuild my L100
battery pack, and make the leap to it was my main
Libretto.

Matt

Hello Marv,

I think that W2k, will make your lib run a litle slow, but if you use fat32
it will run better than NTFS,I use w2k in a machine just like yours, I think
you should try, w2k is more stable, and think a lot better that thespeed
will compensate.

Subject: Max OS for L100CT?

Hi,

I'm the owner of a L100CT 2.1GB / 64MB running Win98. I wonder if it would
slow the system down if i installed Win2000.
Cause if it will i won't do it. Does anyone have experience with this?

Question two :-) i'm thinking of running a schedular or calendar where i can
keep my appointments in with timer alarms etc. Can anyone advise me on a
good application to run on my Lib?

thx.
Mervin.

Hmm ... interesting ... when you have your libretto in 2 monitor mode (by 2
monitor mode I presume you mean the two monitors display DIFFERENT images
and you can drag windows from one monitor into the other - if you only want
to use 2 monitors each displaying the SAME image, you can change that in
the BIOS by holding down ESC as you boot then pressing F1 when it prompts
you then changing the setting in the screen that appears), can you please
take a screenshot (just pressing printscreen will do), save the file
(Paintbrush does the job nicely) and post the result somewhere where we can
have a look? Ideally, can you also have your display setting screen up at
the same time? I'm really intrigued as to how you've managed to do that and
would love to know what drivers and settings you're using under win98 to
achieve this.

Thanks a lot, but the fact is that I could use 2 monitors with my L110CT,
but, running W98. I think that the driver to W2k, that I could't find in
toshiba's web site, doesn't have this issue, that had in the W98 driver.
Does anyone know if there is any other toshiba computer that use this

Thanks in advance

AFAIK the Neomagic chip that is used in the L100/110 only supports one
output. The docking station (or port replicator) duplicates whatever is
coming out on the screen (actually it is a little more complicated than
that to account for refresh rates, resolutions, the ability to switch from
one to the other and so-on but it displays the same info through both
channels).

Single mobile video chips with dual monitor support for the mass market
only really came out maybe in 1999 (I remember some of the Toshiba
Satellite models from about that time WERE able to throw a different
display out the external monitor port). However, in those cases, even
without the external monitor connected, under Win98SE, ME and 2k they would
show you two desktops in the settings tab (assuming you had the video
chip's or Toshiba's drivers installed).

Of course, you still get the odd more recent laptop that can't do this (I'm
typing this on a Portege 7220CTe with an S3 Savage 3D IX8 and whilst the
CHIP can do this, for whatever reason it seems Toshiba haven't configured
the circuit such that the laptop can) ...

1Ghz Transmeta (about 1Ghz Celeron equivalent), 20GB HD, all the usual
ports,
etc. in a 880g package with a 7.2 1280X768 widescreen LCD.

Interesting alternative in the mini-notebook market vs. what's already out,
but
sadly, IMO, the 1Ghz Transmeta processor is no match for the 1Ghz P-M in the
similar, but smaller, JVC Interlink XP series. No idea why Sharp keeps
trying
to use the poor Transmeta CPUs, esp. since alternative mini-notebooks, eg.
the
JVC XP series or the Toshiba SS SX series can push well over 5 hours of
non-stop runtimes with the faster 1Ghz P-M processor.

it simple to find open networks and grab access, without lots of windows
needed to be opened and buttons needed to be pushed. Prefer palm, but would
consider microsoft. Also, prefer built in wifi antenna, but would consider
an add-on if there is some advantage to this.

Thanks, Mike Hodish

Can someone recommend a card for the 50CT? I've tried the Netgear MA401,

about 10-15 minutes, overheats the system and causes it to automatically
shut down.

Sorry if this topic has been covered many times over. I'm new here :)

Ok,
I've got an PCMCIA USB card, I use a external HD (a kind of case that I put a notebook
HD - they use less power, but still need 5v), so the cable got a USB and PS/2
conector, I plug the both, the USB in the PCMCIA and the PS/2 one in the docking.

The HD works well.

I hope I could help you.

I don't think there's any way to get it to work
without an extra power cable. All Cardbus USB 2.0
cards (there don't seem to be any 16-bit ones) have a
jack for external power because the card slots only
provide 500mA.

Hmmm what about Firewire cards? Do they also require an external power
cable?

I found a Belkin Wireless card at Circuit City. This is the only one I
know of that works with the 50ct. I'm curious if anyone has found any
others that can still be purchased new. I spent many hours googling
before finding out about this card.

Don't even bother buying a battery off ebay except to get a used one for the
board and case parts. The cells, even if advertised as new, will be too old
to be much good plus you never know whether the battery will work. Either
plan on buying new cells or having the battery rebuilt with new cells. New
cells will give a good 4-5 hours of life if the 3000mAh pack from
www.photoengineering.com is used, or 3-4 hours of life if the standard
2400mAh pack is used even recording and playing MP3s with external speakers.
With a used or advertised as new battery from Ebay you will be lucky to get
over 3 hours after a using the battery for a while. The cells will be just
too old. I use my own cells (the 3000mAh) and consistantly get around 5
hours of use.

Hi, Im new here. I've been piecing together a machine I found at a

if there are inexpensive long-lasting battery alternatives available
out there anywhere? I'd love not to have to drag the power cord along
with
it everywhere I go. :-) Thanks. Verlie
