The http://go.compuserve.com/toshiba link should bring you to a screen called "Forums". From there you will find a link at the bottom for "Get your free screen name now". If you click on that, you will need enter a screen name, email address and password. After that you will have access. Is this not what you encountered ? Right, The screen I encountered is: Your User ID and Password were not recognized. Your authentication settings may be incorrect or you are not currently a member. You are using CompuServe version 4.x or lower If you are a member and using CompuServe version 4.x or lower, please check your User ID and password settings in the Virtual Key authentication software which was installed with CompuServe. Visit our Virtual Key Help area for assistance with your settings. If you still can not access the area, contact Customer Service at GO FEEDBACK to report the problem. etc... If I accept the offer at the bottom to "Preview this site for FREE! Click here! " it takes me to a Toshiba forum area though so I guess it's the right area but there is no request for a screen name or id, etc. Larry Bishop [EMAIL PROTECTED] ** http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive - Archives http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html - FAQ ---UNSUBSCRIBE--- mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=cmd:unsubscribe UNSUBSCRIBE DIGEST-- Use above but add DIGEST to the subject line... ** ** http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive - Archives http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html - FAQ ---UNSUBSCRIBE--- mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=cmd:unsubscribe UNSUBSCRIBE DIGEST-- Use above but add DIGEST to the subject line... **

My question is, with so many free web forums out there, why in the world Toshiba insists to using such a STONE AGE media so that to punish whoever bought their notebook? Is there any special deal between Toshiba and AOL? - Original Message - From: "Larry Bishop" [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: "Libretto" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, May 10, 2000 11:26 PM Subject: Re: Toshiba support on the internet Date: Wed, 10 May 2000 22:18:38 -0500 From: "Larry Bishop" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Toshiba support on the internet Hi Steve and thanks for your help! As a result it is treating you like a member with an unpaid account. Cis used a program called Virtual key. Go to Control Panel and then add/remove programs. You will want to remove virtual key if it is there as well as any other CompuServe specific software. This is what I got from Cis, but I don't have any of these programs on my system and it still logs me in under my correct id, so I suspect there may be a cookie somewhere with this info in it. Let me know if it works for you. I can honestly say that even being a user, dealer and service center for Toshiba (and Librettos) I have gotten much valuable info from this list. Unfortunately there really aren't any other lists of this caliber for the other Toshiba products, even though several have been attempted. As for Cserve, the one thing they do still posses is probably the best forum oriented software around. No one has been able to duplicate on the web the sophisticated threading that Cserve has. The xxx will be unique to your computer and the [1] could be [2], etc. If you open the file in Notepad, the third line in the file is "login.compuserve.com/login". This appears to be the webview login file. Renaming mine caused it to ask me for a screen name rather then logging me in directly. All I get when I try the sites you directed is the form to subscribe to cis!! I don't wish to ever have anything to do with them again.. Subject: Toshiba support on the internet Toshiba's support forum on CompuServe is now accessible from the Internet. CompuServe membership is not a requirement... now join our discussions by going to http://go.compuserve.com/toshiba. A registration screen will pop up, asking for a name and e-mail address. Once those are filled in, the visitor will be taken right to our forum. Visitors can also access the Toshiba Portables Forum from Toshiba's Service Support home page at http://pcsupport.toshiba.com. Click on "Communication Center." Click on "Online Support Forums." Did the above and it requires me to register!!
