Hi All,

I just got SuSe 7.0 and trying to install it on a
Asys MoBo A7V with a Quantum Fireball plus 20,4 as master on the ATA100
interface and a Seagate Barracuda 20,4 as slave on the ATA100. The first
problem
was that Suse didn't recognise both HD. After downloading a special boot
flop from
the Suse site is does find the harddisk during boot but after that the
system hangs.

Has any body seen this before or knows a solution to this problem ?

Subject: Storage Solution?
Date: Tue, 12 Dec 2000 08:28:14 GMT

I am looking for suggestions on my new storage server. I need as much
space as possible on a single computer but low performance requirement.

I have got Asus A7V which has two ATA/66 port and two ATA/100 port. I
know I'll need drivers for ATA/100 controller, right? I plan to populate
this server with Maxtor 80G drives. I plan to boot off one 20G drive
(special reason) and then have the other drives running software RAID 5
and yes, I know that's going to kill performance, but as I mentioned,
performance is not an issue here.

Other than the one drive that is the booting drive, I can host 7 other
80G drives with the on-board IDE, am I correct? And would I be possible
to also use PCI IDE controller card to get more drives on this computer?

Are there any disadvantages of doing this? My target is 11 drives x 80G,
is that archievable?

Google search with Informer terminal didn't give too much result, but see

Well, surf on over to:

Notice the phrase:

Hi,

IIRC there is a program called ttysnoop which does the job. Never used
it, though.
Good luck!

Could you let me know how you got Creative Annihilator Pro with 32MB -
DDR to work with Linux?
I've tried installing XFree86 4.0 but still can't get Gnome or KDE to
run. The wrong windows manager runs when i type startx (wm.)

These error messages indicate very basic problems. Check your cables,
make sure they connect pin 1 of the controller with pin 1 on the HD
(most cables are not keyed)

What do you mean by "recognize"?
Does it find out about your disk's geometry?

Re-check the cable connections; if it still does not work, return it.

Good luck,

Hi,

sounds to me like you have a 16550A UART (which comes with a 16-byte
FIFO). This is usually configured to wait for either a number of bytes
or a single byte and a timeout before it triggers an interrupt.
This number of bytes can be set to 2, 8 and 14 IIRC.
Try disabling the FIFO (configure it as a 15450 using setserial) and
tell me if it works!

Klaus.

You have to copy System.map to the /boot directory. Do find
/usr/src/linux/ -name System.map. RH6 has a symlink in /boot that points
System.map -> System.map-2.2.5. Don't forget to change the link if its
there

You might want to check this, but off the top of my head 0.3.2
needs a 2.2.x kernel. This would seem to be consistent with the
compiler errors I think. 0.3.2 builds and runs fine for me with
2.2.11, as do the 0.4.x CVS snapshots with CMI83330 support :)

greetings..

i've change back my sound card to als100 since i got a copy of redhat

CD..my sound card (als100) finally is supported and listed in the
kernel
... when i run sndconfig my card was detected but the following message
appeared :

The following error occured running the isapnp program:

further action aborted

so i run manual configuration but I got the "modprobe error" message

i've tried changing all the IRQ and DMA to different values but the

still persist. anybody here know how to solve this problem ?

Hi!
HP 8100 is supported by cdrecord, BUT you need to turn
on SCSI EMULATION for ide cd-rom drives, e.g., you need to recompile
your kernel selecting:

...
  SCSI emulation support (CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDESCSI) [N/y/m/?] y
...

You also need to enable SCSI support, SCSI cd-rom, and generic SCSI support
asked later.

When booting new kernel, you should see, that your HP 8100 was also detected
as SCSI CD-ROM. If it works, cdrecord should work w/o problems.
See README.ATAPI (included with cdrecord's sources) for more information.

Sincerely
  Henryk Paluch, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I just install kernel 2.2.5, choose the ES1371 in the sound card pannel,

I think the standard ncr53c* drivers only detect (and work with?) the PCI
controllers, and I imaging that the older Prosignia servers had the
controllers on the EISA bus - I know thats the case on the Proliant 2000 I
have...

You could check on the Compaq support boards if you haven't already:

http://forum.compaq.com

Check on the Server - Unix & Banyan forum and search for "linux"...

try

and 'x' could be b or c or d depending on how many drives you have on
your system.

Section 3.5 of the HOWTO has more info.

Hi:
I have a 300c, and I've just installed Debian 2.0.
My problem is that I've a Trident 3D Image 975 4MB Video Card,
and i can't run the X properly. ¿Wich option lines I've to add to
the XF86Config file?
