More power to Tom! And I agree with Ronnie. Nothing like the BIG X or
delete key to handle this, if your cheeks aren't too tightly puckered to
handle that. Or, there's the kindergarten approach: if we can't play
by my rules I'll take my marbles and go sulk, i.e. unsubscribe.

There's information as well as good ole humor in OT posts. Yes there
is the General list as well where really serious and lengthy OT stuff

Well, if OT didnt live and we just posted and yelled well, hell, it would be
hard to hear. Nobody has to read OT's and nobody is forced to not filter. I
find them a good distraction and mostly funny and many times informative.

Ah, I see, my mistake. I thought the purpose of this list was to help with linux

And no, I am not willing to spend my time loading an app and deleting the OT's from

I've seen enough of threads like this to know what will be said next and I'll
save everyone from having to say it. I need to get to class, but in the morning
 i'll unsubscribe.

Well, if you have seen enough threads like this you should be able to give an
answer to this? Did they all start with a post by you about what you find
annoying? And if you've been on this list long enough to remember my name from
a general list posting then you must have also had to suffer through numerous
OT threads previous to this one. So whats your problem with this particular
 thread?

You misunderstood, I was pointing out that you were on THIS list back when General was
created. This means that you know why it was created and what its purpose was for. I
have never subscribed to the General list because I was/am not interested in OT email.
However, since you stated that you are on the General list, you knew what its purpose
was and subscribed to it for its purpose.

There, I continued your OT email, much to my own disgust since it wasn't linux
relatedI hope it served your purpose, to amuse you.

It is a list for linux, as you well know, and OT's are a part of any well run
list, as you also know. From your other quote below you also say you looked
over the archives. Did you miss all the OT's there? That you wont spend the time

will spend the time to complain about OT posts then cry the I'm hurt and will

Hi guys. I'm as much responsible for this thread as anybody else so let
me just throw in 2 cents.
I'm not sure what the difficulty is with deleting OT mail. Of the four
lists I am on, this one generates the least mail and pressing the
delete button on OT treads or the 100 or more mail from other lists
that aren't of interest to me is incredibly fast. Within one reading
of a thread (SCO vs. IBM, rants about the war, the latest linuxandmain,
where's Skippy, whatever) I know if I want to nuke it by default or
not. No software, no filter, just the delete button in kmail. As fast
as my finger can punch the button.
To me, the OT stuff is often a great laugh and sometimes it's a little
stupid. But that's what makes this list worth hanging around; it
consists of real humans that are also real experts (me not included).
By the way, did anybody find Skippy? Does not sound good.

I dont agree one bit.

The only list without OT posts is a moderated list. This is a well run list and
Doug does a great job at moderating and kicking OT's to the general list if
needed. OT posts are what make the list has personalities instead of just
handles that supply answers. OT posts let people unwind and crack jokes. Just
like any social gathering, nothing stays on topic, its how the topic changes are
handled that dictate the success of the gathering. And you know, or should know,
the history of OT posts here which either quickly run their course or get kicked
to general. That, IMHO, is what makes this list better than others of the same
catagory.

It depends. If I'm doing stuff where I need the whole context (helping with
technical problems or whatever) then top replying and leaving the whole thing
can be the best thing. For other stuff, not so much. So I randomize,
inevitably picking whatever will get the most tomatoes thrown my way in a
given context. Here I've done it both ways so as to make nobody happy. It's
almost as bad as Netscape Mail's send as both HTML and plain-text option.

Moreover, you can't deliberately mention Hitler just to kill the

Fine, I have my beer, I read what you had to say.

If most of us wouldn't have it any other way, why was the General list created? I
still remember because I was a member of this list when General was created. I could
dig through my logs, as I seem to remember seeing your name on this list back then
too, but it's not worth the hassle.

I've seen enough of threads like this to know what will be said next and I'll save
everyone from having to say it. I need to get to class, but in the morning i'll
unsubscribe.

My apologies to anyone who considered this a waste of bandwidth.

Actually, i like Nedit alot too. xedit isn't bad in a pinch either.

actually, I use tknotepad. It's almost exactly like I remember notepad

 Ciao,

Yup, I like tknotepad as well for a GUI environment.

Well, if OT didnt live and we just posted and yelled well, hell, it would be
hard to hear. Nobody has to read OT's and nobody is forced to not filter. I
find them a good distraction and mostly funny and many times informative.

I've seen enough of threads like this to know what will be said next and I'll

Well, if you have seen enough threads like this you should be able to give an
answer to this? Did they all start with a post by you about what you find
annoying? And if you've been on this list long enough to remember my name from
a general list posting then you must have also had to suffer through numerous
OT threads previous to this one. So whats your problem with this particular
thread?

My apologies to anyone who considered this a waste of bandwidth.

Blame [OT]

2003-06-30 Thread Tom Condon

Blame
Author Unknown

Let's see if I understand how the world works lately...

If a man cuts his finger off while slicing salami at work, he
blames the restaurant.

If you smoke three packs a day for 40 years and die of lung
cancer, your family blames the tobacco company.

If your neighbor crashes into a tree while driving home drunk,
he blames the bartender.

If your grandchildren are brats without manners, you blame
television.

If your friend is shot by a deranged madman, you blame the gun
manufacturer.

And if a crazed person breaks into the cockpit and tries to
kill the pilot at 35,000 feet, and the passengers kill him
instead, the mother of the crazed deceased blames the
airline.

I must have lived too long to understand the world as it is
anymore.

So, if I die while my old, wrinkled butt is parked in front of
this computer, I want you to blame Bill Gates...okay?

Works for me! ;-})
