OK it is already installed sorry, I didn't type correctly the first time...
am I the only person in the world who can't shutdown computer correctly? Maybe
is it a Celeron 2840 issue?
Incredible... with Windows 7 stock, the only things it did correctly was power
off.

Didn't work... It seems to proceed to shutdown but actually not and the
log buffering stop to the message above: r8169

I didn't try this last command... I'll make you know... but every

Hi,
Did this work completely? I don't fully understand your reply.
ACPI is the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface so it does have
something to do with acpi, indeed!

If it didn't work you could try using some acpi options
Here is the EXHAUSTIVE kernel parameters list
https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt

tl;dr
acpi=off might work as a temporary test... but I don't recommend adding
it as a kernel parameter permanently

go through and test the other 'Format' options

acpi={force | off | strict | noirq | rsdt | copy_dsdt}

This is the snippet from the page:

acpi=   [HW,ACPI,X86,ARM64]
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface
Format: { force | off | strict | noirq | rsdt |
  copy_dsdt }
force -- enable ACPI if default was off
off -- disable ACPI if default was on
noirq -- do not use ACPI for IRQ routing
strict -- Be less tolerant of platforms that are not
strictly ACPI specification compliant.
rsdt -- prefer RSDT over (default) XSDT
copy_dsdt -- copy DSDT to memory
For ARM64, ONLY "acpi=off" or "acpi=force" are available

See also Documentation/power/runtime_pm.txt, pci=noacpi

Re: [lubuntu-users] Acer with Intel Celeron N2840

2016-05-11 Thread Israel

Hi you might initially try adding nomodeset to the boot parameters
It seems your particular computer does have certain issues with this
shutdown/suspend thing

This should answer 'how to'

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Troubleshooting#Editing_the_GRUB_2_Menu_During_Boot

basically:

# If the GRUB menu is displayed, the automatic countdown may be stopped by
pressing any key other than the ENTER key.
# If the menu is not normally displayed during boot, hold down the SHIFT
key as the computer attempts to boot to display the GRUB 2 menu.

 * In certain circumstances, if holding the SHIFT key method does not
display the menu pressing the ESC key repeatedly may display the menu.

Then change:
quiet splash
TO
nomodeset

If it worked here is how to finalize the change
edit /etc/default/grub
i.e
sudo pico /etc/default/grub
change:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset"

There are a few other kernel options to try... but this one works pretty
well often.

If it works then we can look into tweaking it and testing other things,
if you have odd graphics or some other issue when using nomodeset

Thanks for helping me about. The issue is always the same, never shut

It is useful to include the specs for the computer as well
lspci

http://pastebin.com/NnnuFn5C

is helpful to list things like the graphics card and internet
interfaces (and a few other things as well
sudo dmidecode

http://pastebin.com/CamFwThf

These will both give a bit more information, as will:
sudo lshw

http://pastebin.com/0rJ8Hw2S

though, I don't think this is included by default, though I may be
wrong about that.

Hi! Thanks for reply so quickly...
I tried Lubuntu 16.04 amd64, after other OS linux, such as arch linux,
debian and ubuntu 16.04, but all have the same problem: poweroff --->
the computer doesn't turn off and reboot ---> doesn't reboot.

0iras0r

Hi 0iras0r,
The terminal command to poweroff in 16.04 is:
systemctl poweroff
This is the systemd way to shutdown the computer

Although you can of course still use the tried and true:
sudo shutdown -h now

I am not sure if the dbus command works still...
dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit
/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Manager org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager.Stop

It is more complicated, but still might work (though it may not I forget
if it does in 16.04)

It would be a good idea to test this in a terminal to get the output of
the command for us to observe.

If either of those work we can easily make a desktop file to run either
command.

You can see if the computer supports suspend by running
pm-is-supported --suspend
The hibernate command is similar
pm-is-supported --hibernate

It is useful to include the specs for the computer as well
