lyx printer setup for cups

auto-correction
Hi there I am a linux/open-office user and I'd like to switch to lyx. However, there is one important feature that I have not found in lyx so far, a personalized auto-correction. In open-office/word it is possible to set the an auto-correction for species names such as Homo sapiens. In this case I write homosapiens and the editor translate it to Homo sapiens. I went though the tutorial and user guide but couldn't find anything about auto-correction. Is there an auto-correction feature in lyx? Thank you in advance Beny
Change of language in intro.lyx
Dear All, I would like to have some help about changing the language setting in one file. I do it under WinLyX, it is works well, but after some operation it stops doing the job. Lets see what: Open the intro.lyx and save it under any name. Change the language to Magyar and try to render to PDF. (Hopefully) You will get 5 error boxes at end of the document. In the last numbered list, after the 3. item. The error text are here: 1.: Illegal parameter number in definition of [EMAIL PROTECTED] \item C ontact the team at: You meant to type ## instead of #, right? Or maybe a } was forgotten somewhere earlier, and things are all screwed up? I'm going to assume that you meant ##. 2.: Missing number, treated as zero. \item C ontact the team at: A number should have been here; I inserted `0'. (If you can't figure out why I needed to see a number, look up `weird error' in the index to The TeXbook.) 3.: Illegal parameter number in definition of [EMAIL PROTECTED] \item C ontact the team at: You meant to type ## instead of #, right? (If you can't figure out why I needed to see a number, look up `weird error' in the index to The TeXbook.) I see that the problem could be some where in the hungarian parts of the TeX system. Could somebody help me to get out of this language change. -- Best regards, theblond mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I went though the tutorial and user guide but couldn't find anything about auto-correction. Is there an auto-correction feature in lyx? Thank you in advance If what you describe is not a typo autocorrection, but a deliberate technique to type in the same frequent chain of characters alike, the underlying latex syntax exists in, e.g. - set un a foo.tex file in which you define frequently used constructs, e.g. \newcommand{\bshs}{Homo Sapiens} where bs stands for your initials to prevent clash with other commands and hs is a abbreviation (shorter to type in than homosapiens) - put \input{foo} in preamble, - type in ERT \bshs wher you need it. In addition, if it happens that you need to replace Homo Sapiens by Homo Erectus everywhere, it's done in one edition of foo.tex :-) Implementation of this as a pure LyX feature must be in progress (it works for math stuff). As far as typo corrections are concerned, flyspell works with xemacs, I don't know if it's planned for LyX. I't a way to do what you mean if you use aspell and if the chain of characters is sufficently near the target to make it appear in the correction list (in which case you may use the spellchecker as well when you're finished with typing in). -- Jean-Pierre
Re: How do I change the labels in Appendix?
Dear Cho (is this your first name?), I have helped myself by putting the following into the Layout - Latex preamble: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] {\raggedsection \ifnum [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] \interlinepenalty [EMAIL PROTECTED] #1\par}} \nobreak\chapterheadendvskip }} I don't remember how this works but I guess it is [EMAIL PROTECTED] that contains the string Chapter or Appendix, depending on the context. However, this will also change your chapters to Chapter 1. Your-topic, etc. If you don't want this to happen, put the code as red latex code just before the appendix (after the last chapter) instead of in the preamble. Best reganrds, Andreas

As far as I understand it, it is a question of philosophie whether one prefers a written Rightarrow or a Sign like =. (When I open the 1.30 file with 1.20, the = appears, so it is no bug) Robert

Building LyX/Mac on UFS file systems
The build instructions for LyX/Mac in the lyx-1.3.4 distribution fail on UFS file systems. Although Apple recommends that MacOSX systems use HFS+ file systems for boot partitions and Applications directories, Gerben Wierda, the maintainer of an excellent teTeX suite for MacOSX, discovered the problem in trying to build LyX/Mac on a UFS file system. I don't have a MacOSX UFS file system here to test this on, but I believe the following changes would work: After installing the LyX/Mac framework from ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/stable/lyx-mac-1.3.4-skeleton.tar.gz and before doing make install in the lyx source directory: - change /Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Info.plist from keyCFBundleExecutable/key stringLyX/string to keyCFBundleExecutable/key stringlyx/string - delete /Applications/LyX.app/Contents/MacOS/LyX - change /Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources/LyX to /Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources/lyx If anyone is in a position to try this on a MacOSX system with a UFS filesystem, I'd welcome corrections or additions to these procedures.
