Hi Steve,
first I must say that I can understand your anger. :-)

OTHO I would like to give the other side of the coin. I am a Fedora
packager
and from our point of view (la)tex packaging is a mess. One of the things that
takes time with a new set of packages is to guarantee that everything works
and that there are no new problems when using different packages together.

Also from Fedora point of view we need to review the licenses to ensure that
all the packages have the right license (allow us to redistribute and modify)
with the non-commercial clause (as an example).

In conclusion for us to update the tex distribution is always an
adventure
(not necessarily in the best sense). I know that things have been improving,
as this has been a problem for long time, but we are still not there where
some random packager can feel confident to update a package like memoir to the
latest version in an easy way.

It *is* installed with MacTeX.

If you can, you might want to wait a week or so (it should be out

Pierfranco,

I have had problems with ImageMagick, too, they disappeared after

I can really recommend MacPorts for this type of software
installations. There are good chances that you already have installed
MacPorts on your box. If not, it is anyway a good idea to get it. Most
OpenSource programs and tools are provided as a MacPorts package for
OSX; installing and especially upgrading such software via MacPorts
is very convenient.

So open a terminal window and type the following commands:

sudo port selfupdate
sudo port install ImageMagick

This may take a while. If "sudo" moans that "port" can not be found,
you have to install MacPorts first. AFAIK you can find it on the
second DVD that comes with Leopard. Otherwise look at http://www.macports.org

I have in my layout extensions definitions for "Dense" versions of
Enumerate, Itemize, and Description.
They work well with the KOMA classes, I cannot tell about memoire.

Another point is that the vertical space between items is too big if
you set the paragraph separator to "Vertical Space" in
Document>Settings. So applying the workaround in
http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4796 might help in this case.

It is: KOMA-scripts scrlttr2 has options for the parskip setting:
(see scrguide.pdf table 6.4 on pg. 170)

Class options are well supported by LyX layouts, so inserting

ClassOptions
Other "parskip=half"
End

into scrlttr2.layout will ensure that paragraph separation will be by
vertical space in the printout as well as in the LyX window (even
with the "indent" setting).

You mean simply adding 'sort' to the other options? As in:

I tried that and it doesn't change the order of the citations. I forgot

Strange. It works on my end with Koma and elsart-harv. I did assume
that you have Document->Settings->Bibliography set to
Natbib->Numerical, which is why you received an error saying Natbib

Like I said, it works just fine for me. Without an example of how it's
not working for we could probably talk until we're blue in the face
without a resolution. Maybe I just don't understand the problem. So,
I've attached a small example showing how Natbib is 'sort'ing the
bibliography. As you can see in the example the first citation is
Smith & Weston in LyX, but in the pdf output from LyX it is the last
citation in the text because it is the last citation in the
Bibliography. Hence, Natbib is 'sort'ing the citations in the output
text according to the bibliography order.

Isn't this what you wanted?

Obviously, from the lack of clear, simple replies, this is not a trivial
problem.

I use powerdot, not beamer, and it is not trivial there, either. But putting
one logo on every page is. A simple solution would therefore be to create a
combined image with the two logos in it, spanning the full with of the top of
the screen. In powerdot, the size, location and file name of the logo is put

I created two additional sections, Greek and Subscript with this code:

\RequirePackage{ifthen}
\renewcommand{\nomgroup}[1]{%
\ifthenelse{\equal{#1}{G}}{\item[\textbf{Greek}]}{
\ifthenelse{\equal{#1}{S}}{\item[\textbf{Subscripts}]}{}}}

This created two additional sections with titles Greek and Subscripts
in the nomenclature page.

Then when you insert a nomenclature item, in the 'Sort as:' box you
could put either a, g, s for alphabetic, greek, or subscript and then
you could put the alphabetical order afterwords. For example, to sort
the greek letter beta I would put 'gb' in the sort as box. This would
sort beta as greek and then alphabetically by 'b'.

OK, to a table-float triggers the error but does not produce it.
Might have to do with tablecaption settings...

I've realized now, that it must have s.th. to do with the declarations I

Yes, this is the recommended way.

With the first lines, the float is generated:

... But when I insert these Lines, the error appears:

%Realisierung der Hyperref-Attribute unter verschiedenen Voraussetzungen

\usepackage{ifpdf} % part of the hyperref bundle

... [116 more lines]

Does s.o. see the reason for my problem in these lines?

This are far too many line for me to spot an error in restricted time.
I'd recommend to try further by "divide and conquer.
Keep an eye on settings that have to do with table floats.

Thanks José,

I never really thought of it from the packager's point of view, always
figuring those guys were so Linuxly smart that somehow getting the package
combo would be easy for them. But now that you mention it, I consider

Can't bind lyx function to certain keys

2008-08-26 Thread Patrick_T

I'm trying to set up my keybindings so that when I enter a greek character,
it inserts the greek character in math mode. I have my keyboard set up
(with xmodmap) so that pressing Mode_switch-a generates "Greek_alpha",
Mode_switch-b generates "Greek_beta", and so on. Then in my lyx keybindings
file I have a bunch of lines like:
\bind "Greek_alpha" "math-insert \alpha"
\bind "Greek_beta" "math-insert \beta"
...

For some reason though, these bindings get ignored, and just the regular
greek letters get input (i.e. if I look at the source with view->view
source, I see the actual greek characters, instead of \alpha, \beta, etc.
commands). Then if I try to export to dvi or pdf, I get a warnig about some
characters not being representable in the chosen encoding. I also tried
binding other functions to the greek letters, just to test, but the bindings
are always ignored.

Does anyone know what might be going wrong? Thanks.

Paul,

Most layouts for Powerdot do put the title at the top of the slide -- but
they write it on top of the background, so they will write on top of the logo
if it runs across the top. I just moved the logo into the center of the top
on one of my presentations and viewed the resulting PDF to make sure this was
what it did.

Therefore, if you create your full-width logo with the two required logos on
each side, and the center section (where the slide title will appear)
consisting of a background the same as the slide style has in that position,
the effect is the same as having separate logos in each corner.

It would probably be simple to modify powerdot.sty to allow a second logo, but
most people (including me) don't want to mess with the internals of LaTeX.

If you see the Document settings class, the User's guide is in book
(KOMA-script), but by default LyX does not provide that document class.
You can install the KOMA-script from MikTeX. (you can find: start>program

Tools>reconfigure, it will download the KOMA-script, just select classes you
need.

I am suggesting to LyX developers to make sure that new users can read and

completed.
