It works on my Debian system without the SVN-PNG and SVG-PPM converters. LyX is able to preview from EPS and/or PDF using the internal QT converter. So, instead of adding, just remove the offending definitions. Günter

LyX 1.56.4.1 fails to downlaod the MikTex package. Is there any work around short of installing MikTex manually first?

You do not see the problem because you don't use gmane interface to the list. When I sent my message with "try this one", the URL I typed was "lyx-devel" at "lists.lyx.org", but when I then read this message, the url was changed to "lyx-devel-UqbJ+GOpo4+hPH1hqNUYSQ" at "public.gmane.org", the same as in your original message, which leads to error 404. As the page says, you basically need to
1. Install Latex fonts that support Greek (or check that you have them
installed on your system already
2. Install screen fonts that support Greek
3. Load babel with the greek and the polutoniko option
For input, if all you need (as I did once) are short fragments, then you can
just use ERT in the body of the LyX document. For instance, you can type
\textgreek{p'asqein} to get the appropriate accents. Or you can have a
\selectlanguage{greek} at the beginning of a longer passage and restore to
english (or Italian) with \selectlanguage{english} when you are done.
This method is not really practical if you have passages longer than a line or

2. You can use the math menus to insert many different \left \right
combinations. The icon that looks like [] with a blue box in the middle is the
one you want.

Hi I use some pdf graphs and after my update to Karmic, they are not shown anymore in Lyx (Error converting to loadable format), but they are shown in the resulting pdf. I've been generating letters with an image in the background. The LyX
preamble is:

Red Text at the beginning of my document.
When generating the .pdf with pdflatex, I can read it fine on my Debian
box with evinve, but people cannot read the .pdf on Windows, presumably
with Adobe Acrobat Reader. They report "a black page". My gues is
therefore a RGB / CMYK coloring issue, but I've been unable to pinpoint
it precisely.
Has anyone experienced similar issues before?

Please try two things: 1. Put your document on the wb server somewhere and send her only an URL - this will eliminate possible attachment corruption in e-mails. 2. Calculate md5 sum of your file and send her asking for calculation md5 of her copy - if they are different, the e-mail system is guilty. Redefining \textuparrow would only be a workaround, no fix.
The standard behaviour is: if the symbol is not available in the
font, a replacement is used from a different font and a warning issued.
This also works in your example (as you reported). However instead of
the common Warning, an Error is thrown -- this is the problem.

They were already installed for me, I wonder if Lyx should offer this as
an available typewriter font. I also think lyx ought to do
poor-mans-bold (perhaps by redefining bfseries), I could probably do
this if the idea is reasonable to the Lyx maintainers. I've certainly
spent HOURS trying to get bold to work for a typewriter font.

and then to have bold ttfamily text, \ttfamily\pmb{bold}
With lstlistings, I just do:

\let\oldlyxcode\lyxcode
\renewcommand{\lyxcode}{\def\strong{\pmb}\oldlyxcode}
I suppose there may be a neater way for \strong to be defined to \pmb in
things other than lyxcode?

This is the correct behaviour: When a LaTeX-error occurs, LyX stops
because LaTeX stops. That this raises a LaTeX error instead of a LaTeX

Anyway, you say ps2pdf should solve the problem? I use precisely ps2pdf to generate the PDF. Anyway, this is a good excuse to take advantage of the portability of LyX... let's create the PDF under Linux! :-) Unfortunately, I suppose it would be simpler to deliver her a printed copy any time it's needed rather trying to ask her to install anything :-) The problem is that I have loads of images, I would prefer not to send all those things.
