Still not ideal as I'm not sure about getting a two line title but that is minor. The question remains now of how to achieve the 3d effect with an external program so that I get the text image to include. Got the shadow rather easily but can't manage to get the highlights for the text. Any idea? (gotten close with gimp but I don't know how to automate it, still far away with convert) It's still only tested with straight latex, will see how to handle \write18 from within lyx later on
RE: Garamond in LyX?
Piero, If you have access to open type or true type fonts, you might consider using XeLaTeX and fontspec. I've had better success going this route than trying to install Garamond by hand (for some reason the Ubuntu packages just don't seem to work well for me.) Hello, Anyone succeeded in installing and using URW Garamond or any other Garamond fonts in LyX? I found this page http://gael-varoquaux.info/computers/garamond/index.html whose examples works perfectly without any installation using TexWorks, but have no idea on how to install it on MikTeX or having it working under LyX 1.6.5 The garamond package docs seems a bit confusing, referring to files which actually don't exist and so on... Any idea? I'm Windows MikTeX user. Thanks! Piero

I want to create a beamer theme that takes the slide header and typesets the text with a 3d effect, so I need something that works as a latex package and commands. I've also looked into asymptote, but don't see anything that seems to be able to do the job either ... I'm looking for something that can work like tikz or asymptote, i.e include a package, wrap the text with some commands and get the effect
Re: Seperate Numbering for Theorems, Defs, Examples, etc
Quick apology: I asked this question before, and was pointed at a lyx page that was supposed to contain some modules that I could use. However the link ((http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Modules) appears broken. I looked on the main wiki page but i couldnt see anything that was obviously relevent: "Srinivas Nedunuri" wrote in message news:hms5hh$ju...@dough.gmane.org... > Hello, is there a way to get Lyx to use seperate numbering for these > different mathematical elements. ie, instead of Theorem 1, Def 2, > Example 3, Theorem 4, etc > I want >Theorem 1, Def 1, Example 1, Theorem 2, etc > > Right now I'm hacking the generated Latex file removing the [thm] in > \newtheorem{defn}[thm]{Definition} but I'd rather not > > cheers > > >

Is there anything that can do that in lyx/beamer/latex? Not sure if that is acceptable to you, but imagemagick can easily create such drawings for you. See e.g. http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/fonts/ Best regards, Stefaan.
Seperate Numbering for Theorems, Defs, Examples, etc
Hello, is there a way to get Lyx to use seperate numbering for these different mathematical elements. ie, instead of Theorem 1, Def 2, Example 3, Theorem 4, etc I want Theorem 1, Def 1, Example 1, Theorem 2, etc Right now I'm hacking the generated Latex file removing the [thm] in \newtheorem{defn}[thm]{Definition} but I'd rather not cheers

A long time ago I decided to prepare all frontmatter aside, if it is necessary, in several archives aside, and then to include them in the main file. These separated archives can be done with Lyx or any other tool and then exported to pdf. Then they are simply included at the beginning of the main file. In the preamble of main file I put \title{} and \date{}. Definitively this is very comfortable. Marcelo Yahoo! Cocina Encontra las mejores recetas con Yahoo! Cocina. http://ar.mujer.yahoo.com/cocina/
how to get text effects in beamer (3d, shadow)
I'm trying to port a powerpoint presentation to lyx with beamer. The one problem I ran into is reproducing a 3d text effect similar to http://www.math.tau.ac.il/~michf/example.jpg I found a package that does the shadow (and some mirror and other effects in tik-z) but could find anything that can do highlights on text to get the 3d effects. I even tried downloading a font creation tool and create a new font with these glyphs instead of producing the effect, but it seems that fonts can only contain b/w bitmaps as far as I can tell and no highlight effects Is there anything that can do that in lyx/beamer/latex? Thanks

Using a layout file you can make a new environment, based on the VERSE environment, that has smaller line spacing and any other modifications you need. You could also simply modify VERSE in-place using the same techniques. The page style can be changed under Document>Settings>Page Layout, but there is another option. Where you have begun a chapter, put the cursor at the beginning of the line. Then do Insert>Short Title. The short title is used for the page heading. rh

Typesetting poetry
I'm using Komsascript book, and have a fair amount of poetry in my manuscript. But the VERSE environment is not very satisfactory: The main problem is that there is too much space between one line and the next, and I must absolutely adjust that. It would also be nice if I had greater flexibility for laying out the poems in the manuscript. As always, thanks for your pointers.

To "check in" the fix is to modify the official source so that everyone can get the fix by using svn to update the source code on local machines (by simply entering "svn up" -- you don't have to check out the code from the beginning as you did). So far no one has checked in the fix yet, so testing now won't change anything for you. You can either wait for the fix to be checked in, or you can manually make the change Lase proposed earlier in this thread. BH

Slightly off topic: I am using Jabref for handling references in my LyX documents. I would like to use Journal abbreviations, and there exists a list jabref-journals.
