unofficial gnuplot external template?

2014-02-18 Thread Scott Kostyshak
I think that there is no official gnuplot external template because of
security reasons, but is there an unofficial one floating around?

LyX's wiki does not have any info.

I did find this:

Try adding a space to the master (and then deleting it if necessary). LyX
will see a change to the master and regenerate the document.

Rich,

I doubt it is discipline-specific, but it could be journal-specific. My
impression is that every journal (or at least every publisher) tries to
something a bit different from other journals just to bedevil authors. :-)

That said, the first journal I laid my hands on does as you describe, so
that may be the most common model. Then again, they didn't give subfigures
separate captions, they didn't center captions, and they didn't have any
subtables at all (just wide takes with apples on the left, oranges on the
right), so what do they know. :-) I probably should follow their lead and
turn my subtables into single tables, then refer to "left half of Table 6"
and "right half of Table 6".

Thanks for the insight.

For some reason, miktex does not understand/obey the command lyx inserts
into the preamble when you check the "Enable Forward/Reverse Search"
button in the toolbar and does not generate the necessary info.

The generation of the required info can be forced by changing the
converter "LaTeX (pdflatex) -> PDF (pdflatex)" in
Preferences->File handling->Converters from the default "pdflatex $$i"
to "pdflatex -synctex=1 $$i" (i.e., by adding the -synctex=1 switch).
After that it should work (supposing that you performed the necessary
configuration as explained in the above link).

file input not updating.

2014-02-18 Thread Rob Saunders
I'm using the lyx "file input" control to input a child.lyx
document within a master foo.lyx
The child is being worked on and updated elswhere.
The only way I can get the master, foo.pdf,
output to find changes in the child.lyx is to restart lyx.

q. Is there an easier way?

KOMA-Script Front Matter

2014-02-18 Thread Rich Shepard

I'm using LyX-2.0.7 on Slackware and trying to implement three front
matter book environments based on my reading of the English KOMA-Script
manual released 2013-12-19. The three environments are: \extratitle,
\uppertitleback, and \lowertitleback.

1.) Above the \title environment I have the \extratitle environment with
the book title. When previewed with dvips this half-title page is in
standard size font, left justified.

Page 61 of the KOMA-Script manual describes the \extratitle environment
and provides an example:

\documentclass{scrbook}
\begin{document}
  \extratitle{\vspace*{4\baselineskip}
\begin{center}\textbf{\Huge Me}\end{center}}
  \title{It's me}
  \maketitle
\end{document}

When I try to replicate lines 3 and 4 with ERT the document throws errors
when compile it. What do I need to do to increase the typeface to bold,
change the size to Huge, center it, and move it down from the top of the
page?

  2. and 3.) Page 64 has a one-paragraph description of \uppertitleback and
\lowertitleback. I can use one or the other, but not both. Using the
\uppertitleback environment I have a set of quotes that appear on the upper
portion of the other side of the title page. But, I cannot then separate the
copyright information using the \lowertitleback environment; I need to use a
\vspace{} to drop it toward the bottom of that page. How do I use both
environments within LyX?

TIA,

Rich

Re: how does Lyx find all the style files ?

2014-02-18 Thread PhilipPirrip

Hi Kevin,
I'm maintaining the LyX port of classicthesis style, and would like to
help you with this. However, I am not sure if I understood what exactly
your problem is. The template uses only local (./) files, if you change
the location of any of them, you should make LyX and LaTeX aware of that.

Document Settings > Document Class > local layout should point to
classicthesis.layout.

classicthesis.sty should be where LaTeX can find it

classicthesis-congig.tex should be where the rest of the template is

Can you please post a list of the changes you've made, I'll try to
reproduce.

it's associated files if I start Lyx by clicking on the
ClassicThesis.lyx file from within the directory where it and all it's
flies are located. If I try to create a new file from a template, where
the ClassicThesis directory is installed in my template directory, it
doesn't find all of the other files (it is looking in ./ for
these files.) and I get errors when loading.

It seems like there is a path variable that needs to be set somewhere.
I went into the preferences dialog and set the "Document Template"
path to this directory. Still doesn't work. (btw, can these paths have
multiple directories separated by ":" ?).

Anyone know what the problem is ?

I come to this thread late so perhaps my comment is not appropriate or
helpful, in which case I apologize for jumping in.

My understanding of caption placement is based on the various article,
report, and book classes I've used over the years, and from writing and reading
scientific papers in various journals. It seems to be the convention that
figure captions are below the figures (even with sub-figures) while table
captions are above the tables. Perhaps this is subject-area-specific but it
has been the pattern I've seen and followed.

Richard,

Thanks for the explanation. I thought of the bump up/bump down idea, but
laziness outweighed preference for captions on the bottom. :-)

I ran into a rather odd problem today, and I was wondering if it is a
known

issue with subfloats. I have a paper (AMS article class) in which I have
several figures with subfigures and several tables, one of which
(Table 6)

has two subtables. I created these the usual LyX way (inserting floats
inside floats), and I put the figure/table content above the caption
(meaning subfigures and subtables went above the figure/table
captions as
well). I inserted labels in the captions and cross-references to them
in the

text.

All the figures and tables are correctly numbered, and all the
references to
subfigures in the text are correct. References to the one pair of
subtables
(Table 6), however, show up as Table 5a and Table 5b rather than 6a
and 6b.

Moving the subfloats in Table 6 under the caption fixed the problem (but
necessitated my doing the same for all other floats, for stylistic
consistency). It seems odd to me that subfigures (done identically) were
numbered correctly when subtables were not.

Is this an issue with the subfig package? Down the road I would like to
revert to my normal practice of putting the content above the caption.

This is a LaTeX issue. The table counter is not updated until you hit
the caption associated with the table. There's presumably some way
this could be worked around on the LaTeX end, so I'd guess that the
subfigure package anticipates the problem---you can only have
subfigures in a figure, so we can adjust---but there's no similar
anticipation with subtables.

You can fix this yourself, if you wish, by manually stepping the table
counter before the subtables, then stepping it back before you get to
the caption.

Problem forward/inverse searching with Sumatrapdf 2.4

2014-02-18 Thread Andy
I am unable to get forward inverse searching working. Have followed
instructions at http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/SyncTeX, and have tried
reinstalling the Lyx+miktex bundle

Generating the PDF is no problem. When I attempt to forward search, the Lyx
status bar reports "(forward-search)", no error is thrown, and focus shifts
to sumatrapdf, however, no highlighting appears.

Lyx Version: 2.0.7
OS: Windows 7 (64bit)

Thanks in advance for any help and look forward to fixing this issue

Andrew
