I actually have the same problem. I have tried this numerous times, but I
always get the same reply:

I'm sorry, I've been unable to carry out your request,
since the address

itai.sha...@mail.huji.ac.il

was not on the lyx-users mailing list when I received
your request and is not a subscriber of this list.

Which is strange, because I keep getting list messages to the very same
address. There seems to be something broken with the unsubcscribing
mechanic.

Nothing of this sort that I know of. Furthermore, the second message sent
is automatically generated by the mailing list server from the mail I have
sent, and I have no way of changing the 'address' from which I send emails.
I have also received an automated warning before removal once, which was
directed to the exact address stated above.

Or, perhaps, you have more than one e-mail address, or perhaps an alias,
and you are responding from the other address? This happens to me quite
often, since my account has an alias, and I forget which version (dlj0@

I found Self-publishing with LyX by Alan Tyree very helpful.
You can get a pdf here:

(or buy a hard copy for 11$).

I found "Self-publishing with LyX" by Alan Tyree very helpful.
You can get a pdf here:
http://www.lulu.com/shop/alan-l-tyree/self-publishing-with-lyx/ebook/product-17444825.html

(or buy a hard copy for 11$).

(I am in no way connected to either Tyree or Lulu, I just came across this
a while ago and found it useful)

No preview - Warning: xelatex had problems compiling lyxpreviews?????.tex

2014-11-12 Thread Itai Shaked
Hello,

I'm having a problem with math previews in lyx 2.1.2 - in certain documents
(possibly all documents set to be compiled with xelatex) there is no
preview for math.

When running from terminal I get the error in the subject:

Warning: xelatex had problems compiling lyxpreviews?.tex

repeating a few times for various files. Locating those files in
/tmp/lyx_tmpdir... I can see there is a valid PDF for each, and running
xelatex manually on them works without any error.
Note also that on the same machine lyx 2.1.0 does not have the same
problem, and the same documents have previews.

What could be the problem, and how do I solve it?

Thanks

Re: Text direction for chapter headings in top margin for RTL book

2014-08-04 Thread Itai Shaked
Hello David,

First, I would recommend you upgrade to the latest version of Lyx. There
have been various bugs related to RTL that have been fixed since 2.0.3.
Upgrading to 2.0.8 (or even 2.1 if possible) could solve at least some of
your problems.

Additionally, make sure all English text is marked as English in Lyx (your
headers are not, although the body text is). If you have the option
selected to mark foreign languages, English text should be underlined in
blue. I suspect once you do this you will encounter problems with pdf
properties (maybe this was the reason the text was not marked as English in
the first place?) - as far as I know there is no simple way of making pdf
properties work with PDFLatex and Hebrew, so you should probably either
check off that option in the document settings, or use XeTeX, or else try
following this -

 1. The chapter headings in the top page margin are displayed reversed

 2. English text included in the chapter names is displayed using Hebrew

Problem (2) does not concern me personally since my project is 100%

Problem (1) is demonstrated best on page 8 in the pdf in the upper
margin. Instead of the Hebrew text as at the beginning of the chapter:

 שם פרק ראשון

 it displays it reversed:

 ןושאר קרפ םש

followed by the gibberish it makes out of the English.

Any suggestions for a workaround? I tried to figure out how to create a
Hebrew book layout myself based on the conversions for letter and
article but it was far from obvious.

Re: 2 questions about new preference features

2014-03-24 Thread Itai Shaked
I don't know what 1 is used for. I also don't know what 2 was originally
meant for, but one use case in which I can see it being useful is when
working on a document with children.
Currently (version 2.0.6) when you close a parent document all of it's
children are automatically closed as well, although it may be more
convenient to work on some of the child documents without changing anything
in the parent document (thus you wouldn't want it to waste tab space).
This is different (I hope) from opening the child on it's own, because when
the parent is open you can see all references macros etc. defined in the
parent or in it's other children.

I have recently been working on a project in which there was a parent
document which only contained the framework of a book and included a macros
file and the other content as children, and most of the time I only worked
on one or more of it's children. Having it open but not showing could have
been useful in that case.

I assume the file you are looking for is ~/.lyx/lyxrc.defaults (with ~
being your home directory). However, as far as I know it is not recommended
to edit this file manually.
Try following the directions here:

If you are on Linux rather than Windows you should probably install
culmus-latex through your distribution's package manager.

Page numbers use fonts of surrounding environments

2013-09-12 Thread Itai Shaked
Hello,
I'm having a problem, which I'm not sure is due to LyX, but I would
appreciate it if any one here could help me.

When writing a document in LyX and using XeTeX and polyglossia I have
noticed some of the page numbers were in different font than others. Upon
further investigation I have found out that whenever an environment (e.g.
Theorem, Lemma, etc.) spans a page break, the page number within would use
the font used in that environment (so - the specific number would be
italic, like a text of a Theorem environment).

This only happens when using non-English language.

Would this be a bug in LyX or polyglossia?
How would you go further investigating or repairing it?

Thanks,
Itai.

I haven't changed anything in fancy headers.

It happens with plain, fancy and headings page styles (though with
headings it is the page number on the top of the page that is changed,
i.e. - not within the environment itself).

How do I redefine the way page numbers are printed?

That is very strange. It is definitely not a LyX bug.

I guess the thing to do is to redefine how the page number is being
printed. What page style are you using? Did you do anything with the fancy
 headers business?

It happens in book and article document classes.

I've tried \normalfont, but it stayed the same. What did help was
 \fancyfoot[C]{\textup{\thepage}}.
I guess polyglossia somehow disables some of the text style commands, or
replaces them with others?

Use the fancy header package. There's info about how to do it in the LyX
docs, or you can find the fancy header manual online. Something like:
 \fancyfoot[C]{\normalfont{\thepage}}
should come close to what you want.

If you didn't want to use that, in principle, you could redefine the page
style, or define your own page style. Which document class?

Using Theorems (Numbered by Type) with Named Theorems

2013-07-31 Thread Itai Shaked
Hello,
LyX (2.0.6) won't allow using the Named Theorems module combined with
Theorems (Numbered by Type) (or the AMS version of this package).
I think this is because Named Theorems requires either Theorems or Theorems
(AMS), and these conflict with Theorems (Numbered by Type).

Is this a real issue with the LaTeX packages, being incompatible, or is it
just a matter of dependencies not configured correctly in LyX?
Is there a way around it?

Thanks,
Itai.

LyX adds redundant \L{} in child documents

2013-07-14 Thread Itai Shaked
Hello,

I'm using LyX to write a document with some child documents. The document
is mainly written in Hebrew, and I use XeLaTeX to export it to PDF (for
better unicode support over PDFLatex etc.).

While LyX handles a single such document well, when I add child documents,
all math environments in child documents are encompassed in \L{} tags,
which render as empty squares in the beginning of each equation in the PDF.
As I understand, \L{} is a LTR mark used by the regular LaTeX (not
XeLaTeX) bidi package, while the new (polyglossia?) bidi package uses other
tags. Math environments in the master document are not enclosed by such a
tag, and are rendered correctly.
Furthermore, exporting each document manually to latex and then using the
commandline xelatex to export to PDF also works fine.

I assume this is some kind of bug in LyX's handling of child documents (not
realizing the child documents are also to be processed with XeLaTeX and
polyglossia's bidi packages, perhaps?).
Is there a way to get by it? How can I verify it really is a bug in LyX,
and if it is indeed a bug, how do I file a bug report?

Thanks,
Itai.
