I just don't installed Python on the first try because I think the bundle
version of the installer do not need anyother external package...

I was wrong; it needs the Python, but at the website do not mention it!

:(

Well, I will download the newest Python and try to install it again!
Thanks a lot!!!

This is a Python error. The def ... line matches line 49 in
configure.py on my system, which works. The problem may be that your
version of Python is too old. I notice that the directory is
C:\Python20. I have Python 2.3 installed, and LyX ships with a
stripped version of Python 2.5. Try this experiment again, but use
C:\LyX14\python\python.exe. If that works, either upgrade your Python
installation or put the LyX Python directory on the LyX path prefix.

The minimum requirement for lyx-1.4.x is python 2.2.0

No, I don't has python installed before the first and the second tries to
install Lyx... anyway - this problem is solved when I install not for all user,
but using the JUST FOR ME option on Miktex and Lyx installer! Thanks a lot
about the effort to help me!

Well, then I could install both the 1.4 and 1.5 versions of Lyx, but now the
problem is that all the classes (including the common Article) is unavaliable.

What happened?
Thanks again, but I'm almost desisting of using Lyx...

On the other hand, there's certainly no harm in installing a recent version.

This is fairly mysterious. Try the following and see what happens.
Open a DOS window and cd to the directory under which you want LyX to

directory, delete it and everything underneath it.

From there, run

\python.exe
\Resources\configure.py

and see if you get that same error message about the missing Python

I don't know what the first error is. That file has to do with python.
Do you have a working python installation? As for the second, it has
been discussed on the list several times. Have a look at the archives.

The errors are likely to be related: if Python is broken, the
installation script is probably doomed, hence the null textclass.lst file.

As Richard said, w9xpopen.exe is a Python file. (Apparently Jasc uses a
file of the same name in Paint Shop Pro, but the bit about shell or
platform coupled with the fact that LyX uses Python and not PSP
strongly suggests Python here.) Googling around indicates that Python
uses w9xpopen.exe on Win 95/98 systems. You indicated you are using XP
SP2, so you don't need that file. (I have both a full installation of
Python 2.3 and the 'thin' installation that LyX does on its own, and
neither has that file.) Any chance you upgraded this machine from 9x to XP?

If you have Python installed someplace, you might try uninstalling it
(or at least moving it off the Windows command path momentarily) and see
if that cures the bug. It might also be a good idea to uninstall any
LyX installations, and delete the user data folder(s) they created.
Then reinstall LyX, cross fingers and hope for the best.

If you're not sure about whether there is a ghost installation of
Python floating around, you could try searching the entire hard drive
for python*.exe. That should (eventually) point to any and all Python
installations.

Well, I've tried to install the Lyx 1.4 and old versions, but I can't.
Actually I tried from many ways to do it on Windows XP SP2:

- from lyx-144-4-bundle.exe - complete (74mb);
- from lyx-144-4.exe - (8mb); and...
- from the LyXPackageComplete-3-08.rar - berilOS Developer (73mb).

All this ways seems to be good installation, but when I run the program, I only
see the same error:

RuntimeError: Can not locate 'w9xpopen.exe' which is needed for pope
th your shell or platform.
LyX: Ready!
LyXTextClassList::Read: unable to find textclass file `'. Exiting.

And then, the program abort! I have the same error with old versions. Can
somebody help me please? I'm an old Lyx user, but now I need to abandon this
software if this can't be solved...:(

(Sorry my poor english...)

Thanks a lot in advance!

Stephen, the instructions you gave me worked fine. In C:\texmf\tex\latex\cv
I had got only the CV.sty file (why?). Then, I downloaded and copied the
cv.cls and it is ok now! Thanks a lot! :-)

Abraços!
   Douglas

---
I copied cv.cls to C:\texmf\tex\latex\cv
then ran Miktex Options: Refresh Now
which is the same as Linux, texconfig/rehash.

Then I opened LyX and ran reconfigure and
then closed it as directed. This eliminated
the error message I reported above with cv.lyx file
which is found in \Lyx\...Examples. I also noticed that
there is a cv.sty contained under C:\texmf\sub-dir and that
there is a cv.layout file under C:\LyX\resources\lyx\layouts.

Stephen

Many document classes

2005-12-27 Thread mywebs2005-lyx
Hello people! How was the X-Mas? :-)

Well, I only use the Article class. I'd tried to use many different
ones, some classes is strange for me. The subsubsection e.g. stays at the
same line of the paragraph that must stays bellow.
So, can someone give me some explanation about some lyx main classes, like
AMS Article, Book, Report (what is the difference between article and report
classes?), etc?
Thanks a lot, and a happy 2006 to all! :-)

this is along standing LyX bug.
You have to enter ctrl-enter at the end of every
 line
 instead of the default enter.

Otherwise LyX always inserts an additional newline

change all the paragraph to linebreaks is unsuitable.
It is like this funny example below:

I want to thank everyone these suggestions: both the scilab and texgraph
are really nice softwares, truly remarkable ones!
Is there some way to translate the texgraph from french, or to get some

The best 2d and 3d eps math graphs to Lyx

2005-11-27 Thread mywebs2005-lyx
Hey guys, how are you?
Well, I'm using the best free LaTeX visual editor (Lyx) and I would like
to know what is the best software to generate good math graphics in EPS format.
I know the gnuplot, but I would like to know some good visual free
software (as Lyx), not a command line one (like native TeX and gnuplot).
Do you have any idea of such a program to do it?

Re: Figure number X

2005-11-13 Thread mywebs2005-lyx
Thanx Uwe, but putting that at my preamble, Lyx
gives me the following error:

Undefined control sequence.
 \numberwithin
  {figure}{section}
The control sequence at the end of the top line
of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have
misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the
correct
spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue,
and I'll forget about whatever was undefined.

Hey Matthew, I'd like to give you my
congratulations! I saw your Stellarium and I like it
very much! It is a great and funny application!
I think you shouldn't use type3 font, because the
PDF is not good viewed this way. I think it's nice to
use only type1 postscript font, and maybe it will
solve your page problem also. So, you can put at
preamble the line

 \usepackage{ae,aecompl}

and export the PDF using [File/ Export/
PDF(pdflatex)].
Congratulations again! Give some callback :)

Hey guys, how are you?
Well, I cannot view the newest dvi file when I
type ctrl+d. It just launch the old one. I need always
to manually delete the dvi file, and then press the
ctrl+d again to really view the dvi file with the last
modifications.
I tried to use the update menu, but it still at
the same track.
How can I solve it? It is so boring to erase the
dvi so many times...

2005-10-22 Thread mywebs2005-lyx
When I am using Lyx and I wanna swiftly check the

The strange thing is: some days I must to erase

to see the old one.

I said sometimes because some days I needn't do
that. I tried to update the dvi but has no effect,
and the same file at the next day maybe becomes

What's worth to use, PDF (dvipdfm) or PDF (pdflatex)? And why?

2005-10-21 Thread mywebs2005-lyx
Hi there! :)

What can I put inside the preamble to do marginal notes automatically
became with a smaller font than the text body? (I want the same size that the
auto footnotes).

Thanks a lot in advance!

PDF (dvipdfm) X PDF (pdflatex)

2005-10-19 Thread mywebs2005-lyx
I realized that export using the pdflatex do not
produce the same pdf output that the dvipdfm. The
difference lay between the size of up and bottom
margins and the size of the files. Why, PDF (pdflatex)
-- build an output with about (e.g. 29kb) and PDF
(dvipdfm) -- build an output with about (ex. 53kb).

Which one is worth to work on? And what's te
advantages and defeats of both that ways?

Re: copy and paste between lyx documents does not work - why not?

2005-10-17 Thread mywebs2005-lyx
I'm using Linux and if I open two LyX documents, I
 can't copy and paste
 between the two windows.

Oh, you can! It's true! :)

I can select text in other windows and paste it by a
 mouseclick in a LyX
 window.
Why can't I copy/paste between the LyX windows?

Then, do the following: Select the text in your
first Lyx window, press Ctrl+C, then switch to the
other Lyx window and press THE MIDDLE BUTTON OF YOUR
MOUSE! :)
