Colorbox destroys Index
Dear Herbert, Yes, you're right! Thank you very much. But this is a bit mysterious: there is now an index where there was none several times. Greetings Andreas Gesendet: Mittwoch, 10. We have fixed a number of bugs in this version. Most of these are minor, but there was one crash when deleting rows or columns from a table that has been fixed. There have also been some improvements to tab management. See the complete list of updates and improvements below for more. You can download LyX 2.4.1 from https://www.lyx.org/Download. If you have trouble using LyX or have a question, consult the documentation that comes with LyX (under Help) and the LyX wiki, which you will find at https://wiki.lyx.org/. You can also send email to the LyX users' list (lyx-users at lists.lyx.org). Bugs can be reported on our bug tracker (https://www.lyx.org/trac/) or by writing the developers' list (lyx-devel at lists.lyx.org). Aw: Re: Index is not displayed
Hi Riki, many thanks for your response. I have a few questions about your suggestions that I would like to quote: I have sometimes had trouble with the index not displaying the first time I export a file. If I change something trivial (add a space at the end of a paragraph, say) and re-export, then it appears. I have already made many, many changes to my 250-page book, which is far from finished. There will probably have been spaces at the end of some paragraphs. Unfortunately that had no effect. One way to try to debug this would be to export the file to LaTeX and run everything manually. Unfortunately I don't understand this: How do I export the file to LaTeX and how do I do everything manually? Or just launch LyX from a terminal, and watch the output when you export. How do I start LyX from a terminal? And how do I observe the output when exporting? Andreas Gesendet: Samstag, 13. Index is not displayed
Dear Herbert, I think you are responding to an email from me that is already out of date. Meanwhile I sent another file WME_Index.lyx, which uses the text processor texindy. Jürgen recommended it to me. Unfortunately that didn't work either. I can't find the xindex processor you mentioned in my selection list. Instead I find xindy. Did you perhaps mean that? It doesn't work with xindy either. Even if, as you suggested, I use makeindex as the processor and enter the option "-s german.ist" (Jürgen commented that he cannot find german.ist on his computer), the index is not displayed. I am very grateful for your other suggestions! I will be happy to implement them in time. But they probably have nothing to do with the index, which is my primary concern. So I can do that at a later time, right? Andreas Gesendet: Samstag, 13. Index is not displayed
Hi, I'm working on a book (KOMA-Script). Three years ago, a similar LYX document worked without any problems. But now the index is no longer displayed to me. Based on advice from the community (Jürgen) at the time, I chose texindy as the index generator. So far I have entered the following options in the settings: -L german-duden -C utf8 --module "C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9\xindy\modules\base\numalpha" The generated idx file looks correct - it is stored in a temporary directory. I'm working with LYX 2.3.7 on Windows 11 Home, version 23H2. I am attaching a significantly reduced LYX file that focuses on creating the index. Can you help me please? Thanks in advance Andreas MWE_Index.lyx Description: application/lyx -- lyx-users mailing list lyx-users@lists.lyx.org http://lists.lyx.org/mailman/listinfo/lyx-users

Adding exteranally-created index
A book index can contain more than words found in the body; for example, concepts that are not single words but might well be what a reader seeks from the index. I've created an index externally and it has abbreviations and terms not necessarily in the text body but could be what a reader seeks to find. Is there a way for me to add the index? Perhaps by manually adding a 2-column unnumbered chapter after the bibliography? TIA, Rich -- lyx-users mailing list lyx-users@lists.lyx.org http://lists.lyx.org/mailman/listinfo/lyx-users

So, > there's content to be displayed. > > Rich > -- I've tried to compile a few minimal documents to see the differences between the index tools. I've noticed that unlike makeindex and texindy, xindy does not produce a .ind file that should be processed by latex and create an index list, but only an .idx file, which usually gets converted to .ind file. On the first page of Xindy manual it is stated that "xindy is the formatter-indepedent command of xindy, the flexible indexing system. It takes a raw index as input, and produces a merged, sorted and tagged index. Merging, sorting, and tagging is controlled by xindy style files. Files with the raw index are passed as arguments. If no arguments are passed, the raw index will be read from standard input. xindy is completely described in its manual that you will find on its Web Site, http://www.xindy.org/. A good introductionary description appears in the indexing chapter of the LaTeX Companion (2nd ed.) If you want to produce an index for LaTeX documents, the command texindy (1) is probably more of inter- est for you. It is a wrapper for xindy that turns on many LaTeX conventions by default." So it seems you should use texindy and not xindy directly. Many thanks for your reply, Herbert. Is it difficult to change index entries so that emphasized words are allowed? In creating an index, e.g. name index, one clicks behind the word(s) to be indexed. If I have a name like Drosophila, it will be emphasized, because it is already so in the text. It makes also more sense to have the name slanted. Please consider the attached .lyx file. The file mainly consists of two index entries inserted via the Insert->Index Entry button in the editor. It is a MWE for a larger project to be compiled with XeLaTeX. The exported tex commands are not as clean as they could be. Can anyone see the reason for this? Can I change it? Hi, my (two-column) index should be formatted in justification (is that the correct word?), which sometimes creates ugly large gaps in the text when the line breaks. I figured I could work around this problem by left-justifying the entire index. To do this, I added the command \raggedright immediately before it. That works too. But unfortunately the two-column index on the last page no longer ends vertically flush. How can I get a concise deal? Subject index with Makeindex
The enclosed MWE shows a simple document with a series of key words with which I would like to fill a subject index. However, if I choose Makeindex as the index processor, the subject index is NOT displayed in the resulting PDF document. PLEASE, can someone tell me why? And how do I manage to create a subject index using Makeindex. Incidentally, no ind-file is created during compilation. Requirements for a subject index
In the recent past I have made similar inquiries, but they received no response. After I was very nicely pointed out by your colleagues what I could improve on my questions to you - thank you very much! - I would like to make my request again. My request today completely replaces my older requests! I have now made two MWEs by radically deleting the text in the LYX file and emptying the preamble as much as possible. Both MWEs contain the same text and only differ in terms of the index processor. There are sections A, B and a footnote (F) in the document. The three keywords should have the lowercase letter a, b or f after the page number in the subject index, depending on which of the three sections (A, B, F) they are placed in. MWE1 uses the index processor texindy. The associated PDF file shows that a German DUDEN order according to DIN5007-1 can be created in the subject register, just as I would like it to be. The three keywords appear, but without a page number. This is not surprising, since the macros in the preamble were also tailored for the index processor Makeindex (but not by me - I am not familiar with it). MWE2 uses the Makeindex index processor in the following way: Document > Settings > Index: Standard Preamble: \ usepackage [makeidx] \ makeindex [-g] The subject index is completely missing in the associated PDF file. Now to my concern: The subject index should be classified according to DIN5007-1 and some specially marked keywords should have a lower case letter after the page number. As long as that is achieved, it doesn't matter which index processor I use. Index processor texindy or makeindex
In the past I have asked you numerous questions and you have almost always helped me very well and quickly. For this I would like to say a big thank you! However, I am a little worried about our excellent cooperation. I asked you three questions (28.8., 1.9., 4.9.) which - worded differently - mean the same thing. However, I do not get any more answers to my questions. In the past it worked very well. But since the last answer from H. Voss, which was not helpful, I have remained silent. I have included meaningful examples with my questions. Examples that are very much reduced. To show you, I could also send my real data (LYX and PDV files). However, that would be miles away from any MWE. I don't know how to illustrate my problematic situation to you. I'll try again: I have a huge LYX document. As a PDF file, it has almost 400 pages! It contains a lot of text, tables, photos, graphics, footnotes, a table of contents and a subject index. This is exactly what I'm about: The book (KOMA) is in German. Umlauts appear in this of course. Therefore a decision has to be made for the sorting of the index. I met her and decided on the so-called DUDEN order (DIN 5007-1 variant 1). That is why we have colleagues of yours in the past - successfully! - got to the index processor texindy. A few weeks ago a new problem arises: I have to mark certain page references in the subject index with a letter after the respective page number. H. Voss advised me to come up with a solution that - supposedly - only works with Makeindex. That puts me in a bind. I tried to change the index processor to makeindex with test documents. The result is currently that my subject index disappears completely. I do not know what to do. As in my last inquiries, I am enclosing a LYX and a PDF file. Greetings Andreas Sachregistertest_mit_Makeindex1.pdf Description: Adobe PDF document Sachregistertest mit Makeindex1.lyx Description: application/lyx -- lyx-users mailing list lyx-users@lists.lyx.org http://lists.lyx.org/mailman/listinfo/lyx-users
Index is missing when using Makeindex
In my KOMA book (on your advice, because the page numbers can be specially formatted there) I set the index processor to make index. Now I don't get an index at all. I can do what I want, it's gone. What am I doing wrong? I am enclosing the associated LYX file and the PDF file compiled from it of a largely reduced example. It may be that the preamble are a little lush. But I do not know whether and which entry is involved in the lack of the index. So I left it largely complete. What could I do to make the index appear again? (Originally I had texindy, it worked with that. But again I can't format page numbers with it ...) Sort order in the index
Hi Herbert how do I get XINDEX to become the index processor? Because it is not selectable with me. With the tools I can choose: custom makeindex texindy xindy I selected "custom" and entered "xindex" as the command. But in the document settings I can select the following options: default makeindex texindy xindy I selected "texindy" and entered "-L german-duden -C utf8" as the option. Is that the solution you mean? Because it doesn't sound entirely logical and conclusive to me. But it works. Does it just work by chance? Am I doing it right or is it awkward? You see how insecure I am. Greetings Andreas Gesendet: Dienstag, 20. Hi, I'm writing a KOMA book. Please: How can I force the DUDEN sort order in the index? So that the umlauts Ä, Ö and Ü are sorted as if they were normal vowels A, O and U. Thanks for your help. I know the three codes: toc, lot and lof. But don't I need a code for the subject index? Because if I just change toc to lof ... \addtocontents {lof} {My short paragraph\ par} ... I got another error. I can play it down, but then the text stands for the list of figures immediately after its heading. Instead of this I want to place it immediately after the heading of the index! Indentation in the index, Headers in capital letters
Yes, thanks, that helped. However, now (?) the headers (with a double-sided layout) are only set in capital letters. And that contradicts the KOMA-Script manual: "While the standard classes always set automatic running headlines in capital letters - that is, capital letters - KOMA-Script uses the spelling that was found in the headline."
