Re: Keyboard Shortcuts on a n iPhone

2011-11-26 Thread Sandy Tomkins
Hi Matthiew,

Don't know is these are short enough for you, but using the same combo as
you, once I read your message on my phone, with the Apple BT keyboard on, I
just pressed the left and right arrows to check I was in quicknav mode, then
I pressed control (second from the left in the bottom row) plus downarrow, this
took me to compose which I could use for a new message, or if I left arrow
from there, I get reply, whereupon, I press both up and down arrows to
accept, press same again to choose a simply reply and voila!

So basically, ctrl plus down arrow for your short cuts.
HTH Sandy.

Re: Mac feel natural

2011-11-26 Thread Lewis Alexander
It's alright garth, no worries.

to be honest, you've just cheered me up lol. Running the organization is a
stressful thing, especially when it comes to contact with companies, supply
chains and clearance bases for parts, machines, software, etc.

I agree on the points you've raised.

the whole ppoint of a computer or data system is the development and use of a
HUI (Human user interface)

going back to the days when the mouse slowly crept into system use, everything
was purely keyboard based to run applications, perform simple and complex tasks.

moving through the years, IT has changed dramatically, from OS implementation,
accessibility and so much more, so yes there's going to be a point where we VI
and blind users have a difficult time mastering the various shortcuts for a
screen reader as well as the OS in general.

I can refer to my days for a while using JAWS as well as system programming,
etc. If anyone asked me how to use jaws these days, I'd have no clue. I can't
even remember the windows shortcut mappings anymore, so need to study again lol.

when it comes to the iphone, ipad, etc, this is another step forward indeed. we
now have a tactile interface to a screen reader. Reach out and touch design
certainly opens up new doors to mobile devices and makes a massive game change
and I'm glad to say. I love it.

On a design thought, why not give the macbook pro a boost. give us a touch
screen interface as well as the usual keyboard and mouse interface. it would
give us a better feel and understanding of what is actually on screen rather
than just listening to the UI through shortcuts. that's one of the points
behind the iphone and ipad and it's a winner for me.

anyway enough from me. people to contact, a part lookup to do and a request for
an old apple powerbook display for a broken powerbook about to be assigned to a
new owner.

take care all and it's nice to have a home here to help.

you're forgetting. Apple is based in the USA, so it has it's rights to launch
the product at first hand in the USA before shipping over the world. this is so
that if there are initial problems, then it can be dealt with. not only that,
but this is also a supported contractual agreement between apple and any other
3rd parties and support infrastructures.

I know that feeling only too well. It's like trying to get parts for the
FreeMacsForTheBlind project. acquiring them is one thing, but when they're
in the USA, that's something else.

it's like when someone produces a new piece of kit, we wait while it's in their
home country and others being trialed out and here we are at the end of the
chain. WAH WAH WAH! lol

You don't. Or maybe you can swipe on the closed contact. I have never tried
that as I was taught to open it first. but double tap and hold until you
hear the 3 tones then swipe right and you should see a confirm on the right
 hand side.

Re: iTunes Match

2011-11-26 Thread Lewis Alexander
I agree on that one. Think about it, apple are international, so you'd think
that as a product or service rolls out, we'd all see a benefit of it. sadly
even here it's not the case. take as an example. iphone 4s pay and go with O2.
not available till new year or just after... why? apparently it's due to supply
and demand.

oh well. I suppose that's just the way it is.

happy macking lol

It should not be. I did it once. Just import your library file in my case
iTunes Library.itl in to itunes after adding all the music from your prior
library. and I think it will even retain your podcasts if any as well. if you
add that folder and so on and so on.

go to file.. import to library. this calls up a window to brows your itunes

import all info.

sorry if my explaination isn't clear.

VoiceOver on iPod Video?

2011-11-26 Thread G.E.
Hi,
I'm Glenn, and new to this list.
I used to have an iPod Touch 4G, and I have an iPhone 4G, and I have an
older iPod Video, 30GB of storage.
I have it connected to iTunes, and I cannot find a way to get VoiceOver
going on it.
I am not sure if it can.
I had RockBox on it before, and I will probably reinstall RockBox later, but
I would first like to try and get it talking with VoiceOver.
I activated VoiceOver on my other IOS devices, though I don't remember
exactly in iTunes I did that.
I just don't know if it is an option on my iPod Video, so if so, how do I go
about doing that?
Thanks.

even the current apple ipad classic doesn't support voiceover. it should to be

Re: Scanning with ABBYY.

2011-11-26 Thread John Panarese
Hi Geoff,
Could it be because it's a network printer/scanner? I never had luck
getting my HP8500 to work via the network with Abby. I had to physically
connect the device to my Mac for it to be recognized. I remember reading
somewhere that only certain printer/scanners would work with the scan option
via a network situation. Of course, though, this is just a shot in the dark.

Take Care

 Greetings,

About ten months back I concluded that the VUEScan/ABBY/textedit process
rendered scanning/ocr impractical on MacOS. Then upon reading Esther's post
on the ABBYY sale I decided to give it another shot under Lion.

My scanner is a network connected HP c7200 PhotoSmart all-in-one. In Lion it
is unnecessary to obtain the driver from HP. Instead, it is installed via
the system preferences - printers and scanners - add printer dialog. My
hope was that since the PhotoSmart is a twain scanner directly supported by
Lion, I might be able to remove VUE from the equation.

When I tried this under Snow Leopard, I recall that I was able to easily
locate my scanner as a choice in the convert to text dialog. In Lion,
however, I have been unable to determine how to accomplish this. I tried
selecting image capture and the photosmart.driver app which was installed
in the library/printers/hp/cups folder, but in both instances, when I select
open ABBYY presents a dialog where the only active option is to cancel.

Any/all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Best regards.

well thats all well and good as a track pad, you're talking to a tech who's
used apple laptops since the track pad came out in the 90s

What I mean is and as a practial sense and going back to my days in tech
programming, etc. there are certain areas where a full size touch screen can
give you a better feel for certain aspects. say as an example, you'd like to
know a window position by feel, you could tap and voiceover would give you
the help from that point. as you do on the iphone and ipad. but on a larger
 environment.

I for one would use that kind of interface where speed is useful in a repair
 aspect.

think of it like a POA system (point of access point of sale system)

 just a thought

 It's alright garth, no worries.

to be honest, you've just cheered me up lol. Running the organization
is a stressful thing, especially when it comes to contact with
companies, supply chains and clearance bases for parts, machines,
 software, etc.

I agree on the points you've raised.

the whole ppoint of a computer or data system is the development and
use of a HUI (Human user interface)

going back to the days when the mouse slowly crept into system use,
everything was purely keyboard based to run applications, perform
 simple and complex tasks.

moving through the years, IT has changed dramatically, from OS
implementation, accessibility and so much more, so yes there's going
to be a point where we VI and blind users have a difficult time
mastering the various shortcuts for a screen reader as well as the OS in
 general.

I can refer to my days for a while using JAWS as well as system
programming, etc. If anyone asked me how to use jaws these days, I'd
have no clue. I can't even remember the windows shortcut mappings
anymore, so need to study again lol.

when it comes to the iphone, ipad, etc, this is another step forward
 indeed.
we now have a tactile interface to a screen reader. Reach out and touch
design certainly opens up new doors to mobile devices and makes a
massive game change and I'm glad to say. I love it.

On a design thought, why not give the macbook pro a boost. give us a
touch screen interface as well as the usual keyboard and mouse
interface. it would give us a better feel and understanding of what is
actually on screen rather than just listening to the UI through
shortcuts. that's one of the points behind the iphone and ipad and it's a
 winner for me.

anyway enough from me. people to contact, a part lookup to do and a
request for an old apple powerbook display for a broken powerbook
about to be assigned to a new owner.

take care all and it's nice to have a home here to help.

I agree on the points you've raised.

the whole ppoint of a computer or data system is the development and use of
 a HUI (Human user interface)

going back to the days when the mouse slowly crept into system use,
everything was purely keyboard based to run applications, perform simple and
 complex tasks.

moving through the years, IT has changed dramatically, from OS
implementation, accessibility and so much more, so yes there's going to be a
point where we VI and blind users have a difficult time mastering the
various shortcuts for a screen reader as well as the OS in general.

I can refer to my days for a while using JAWS as well as system programming,
etc. If anyone asked me how to use jaws these days, I'd have no clue. I
can't even remember the windows shortcut mappings anymore, so need to study
 again lol.

when it comes to the iphone, ipad, etc, this is another step forward indeed.
we now have a tactile interface to a screen reader. Reach out and touch
design certainly opens up new doors to mobile devices and makes a massive
game change and I'm glad to say. I love it.

On a design thought, why not give the macbook pro a boost. give us a touch
screen interface as well as the usual keyboard and mouse interface. it would
give us a better feel and understanding of what is actually on screen rather
than just listening to the UI through shortcuts. that's one of the points
behind the iphone and ipad and it's a winner for me.

anyway enough from me. people to contact, a part lookup to do and a request

well thats all well and good as a track pad, you're talking to a tech
who's used apple laptops since the track pad came out in the 90s

What I mean is and as a practial sense and going back to my days in
tech programming, etc. there are certain areas where a full size touch
screen can give you a better feel for certain aspects. say as an
example, you'd like to know a window position by feel, you could tap
and voiceover would give you the help from that point. as you do on
the iphone and ipad. but on a larger environment.

I for one would use that kind of interface where speed is useful in a

Hello Sarah

Fair enough, but I should make it absolutely clear that the copy on our site is
definitely not pirated in any way whatsoever. It's just the same as the version
which VMWAre themselves distribute. But it's entirely down to the individual.

We've never had a problem with downloading their products. I wasn't aware that
the DVD version or CD version is cheaper; it's actually the other way around
over here.

But Sarah; please don't think I'm criticising; not in the least. I was just
genuinely curious. I apologise if I gave you any offence. Same goes for Geoff.

I agree on that one. Think about it, apple are international, so you'd think
that as a product or service rolls out, we'd all see a benefit of it. sadly
even here it's not the case. take as an example. iphone 4s pay and go with
O2. not available till new year or just after... why? apparently it's due to
 supply and demand.

oh well. I suppose that's just the way it is.

Re: Fusion 4.1

2011-11-26 Thread Sarah Alawami
Usually tha'ts the case but this time I guess they wanted to have a sale on the
dvd download. Don't ask me why but usually when I see a deal like that i go for
it lol! and on the connection I'm on it's easier to take the dvd lol! tha'ts
another time for another discussion lol!

 Hello Sarah

Fair enough, but I should make it absolutely clear that the copy on our site
is definitely not pirated in any way whatsoever. It's just the same as the
version which VMWAre themselves distribute. But it's entirely down to the
 individual.

We've never had a problem with downloading their products. I wasn't aware
that the DVD version or CD version is cheaper; it's actually the other way
 around over here.

But Sarah; please don't think I'm criticising; not in the least. I was just
genuinely curious. I apologise if I gave you any offence. Same goes for Geoff.

Yeah exactly and I hate downloading things. I always keep hard copies as I
don't trust much of anything and I believe in multiple copies of stuff.

but the main reason is that it was almost 50 percent cheaper and that to me
 is a big deal.
