Re: MagicJack IOS app.

2012-01-27 Thread Michael Busboom
Hello Geoff,

As you know, I have two MJ accounts, one is the Magic Jack Plus, and the other
is the older, traditional account where you plug a device into the USB port of
your Mac or PC. Do you know if the MJ app for the iPhone would allow me to use
one of these two accounts, or would I have to create yet another account?

Thanks and take care,

Mike

 This app renders it possible to place and receive calls to/from magicjack

 my wi-fi call quality seems fine, and the one time I tried placing a call on
 the 3G network with two bars, I didn't notice any difference except that it
 longer for the call to complete. I do not have a MagicJackPlus, but even for
 those who do, this app might be worth considering since it renders it
 possible to use the mobile phone without chewing up minutes. Those with
 older MJ hardware have the added benefit of not having to turn on the
 computer and run that nasty inaccessible addware that MJ calls SoftPhone.

 I went to AppleVis, but noticed that a review was already written and I
 didn't have much substance to add. Thought I'd post here in case there are

I am suppose to use plus function key to execute the above.
I am using a MacBook Pro by the way.

Please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Many thanks

Re: MagicJack IOS app.

2012-01-27 Thread Geoff Waaler
Hi Mike,

Upon initial launch, a dialog is presented where you can choose an existing
account. Now on the my.magicjack.com site, my number is associated with my
iPhone and MJ device. Presumably I will receive in-coming calls on the iPhone,
but I've not yet had an opportunity to verify that.

  This app does not insert a tab in your phone settings, so to change accounts
you would launch the app, double tap the account tab--advanced--forget this
device.

  Best regards.

Re: Kindle Books and Mac Access

2012-01-27 Thread Christo Thiardt
Hello

I have used the Kindle itself and Kindle for PC extensively for about a year
now.
Almost all the books I wish to read are text-to-speech accessible and they
arrive (after purchase) within 11 seconds.
The PC and the Kindle synchronise within a few seconds once you change from one
piece of hardware to the other.

My question is the same though: are Kindle books accessible on the Mac? The
actual text is not read via the user's access software but via the inbuilt
speech both on the Kindle and Kindle for PC.

Every good wish

   There was discussion a year or so ago about how the
 original Kindle Reader is inaccessible due to its navigation not
 being accessible and that certain books could not be read aloud
 once someone got to that feature because the publisher wanted to
 disable being able to read it aloud so as not to compete with
 sales of the audio form of the book.

   If one uses an ipad to buy Kindle books, can you
 normally read them with Voiceover?

   I realize that this is a bad question because some
 Ebooks may just be image files of actual printed pages so you
 would need an OCR program to read them.

   I might actually buy an ipad one of these days if you
 can usually read the things that are available.

Re: Notifications, how to stop repeated notifications?

2012-01-27 Thread Geoff Waaler
Hi Eric,

You can set apps to behave differently. In settings--notifications double tap
and item under the heading: in notification center such as messages. Near
the bottom is a button labeled repeat alert. The possible choices range
from never to alerts repeat at two minute intervals. Also, as you probably
already know, there is a toggle switch in
settings--general--accessibility--voiceOver--speak notifications in locked
screen which can suppress automatic announcements.

Best regards.

  Hi Listers,

  I am reading the new Take Control Book about the iPhone 4S and read that you
can change the setting for the number of times a notification is repeated.
I've noticed for example that If I get a text and my hands are busy the
notification keeps repeating. I looked all over the settings area and in
notifications but can't seem to locate the area to change this. i would be
happy with just 1 reputation.

  I read the section in the book again but it is not clear to me where to go.
Does anyone know how to change this?

Re: Cursor Headache

2012-01-27 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Christo,

In TextEdit, if you want VO commands to work, you must interact with the text
area. If you do that, then VO-FN-Up Arrow will take you up a page, and with
Down Arrow you'll go down a page.

Here are the non VO navigation commands:
Right Arrow - moves right one character;
Left Arrow - moves left one character;
Option-Right Arrow - moves right one word;
Option-Left Arrow - moves left one word;
Command-Right Arrow - moves to the end of the line;
Command-Left Arrow - moves to the beginning of the line;
Command-Up Arrow - moves to the beginning of the document;
Command-Down Arrow - moves to the end of the document;
Option-Up Arrow - moves up one paragraph;
Option-Down Arrow - moves down a paragraph;

Holding down the Shift key with any of these commands will highlight the text.

To learn about VO commands, press VO-h-h and look at the menus.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Kindle Books and Mac Access

2012-01-27 Thread Martin McCormick
Thank you.

I have been working with computers now for 33 years
starting with the Apple II in January of 1979 and one of my
favorite gripes has been that eubicquitous accessibility was always
just around the corner. You do get that condition on a circular track.

Eubicquitous accessibility simply means that it is everywhere
you need it. As long as the Apple products contain Voiceover or
if Android accessibility ever becomes real and is incorporated
in to all Android devices, we will finally have a different
world.

We're not quite there, but you can almost see it or hear
it now.

Notice, I didn't mention the most common operating
system. It's certainly got accessibility if you spend enough,
plan far enough in advance and hope to goodness the application
you need to use was written correctly. We've had that kind of
access since the sixties or so. It's not the same thing.

Re: pictures on the i-phone

2012-01-27 Thread Thejazzden
Hello Krystal You really do need to have a list of your photos with their
numbers, unless of course you only have a couple at a time and, as Sarah says,
you can remember them.
In theory you can label them by two-finger tapping once and then very quickly
again and holding your fingers down. you may, of course, need someone with
sight to tell you what your pictures are so you can label them, or make a list
and then label them.
The problem is, again as Sarah and others have pointed out, there seems to be a
bug in VO in that labelled icons (or photos) don't seem always to retain their
labels. Labelling's a great idea, but not if ithings don't stay labelled from
one session to another.

Re: Kindle Books and Mac Access

2012-01-27 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Martin,

The books I buy from Kobo are epub format but with DRM. The application I use
to read them on my Mac is Adobe Digital Editions Preview, not Apple's Preview
application installed on all Macs.

The Adobe Digital Editions Preview application is still in beta, but it's free
and works. You have to press Right arrow to turn a page as it won't read
continuously.

The Kobo app on the iPhone does, however, normally read straight through a
chapter, but you have to go back to the contents page to open the next chapter.
However, links do work.

Oh, by the way, I'm not in the UK, I'm in France, so the iBook store only
offers me French language books and I prefer to read for pleasure in English.

cheers,

Anne

No, Kindle books are not accessible on the Mac. There might be a way to jump
through a bunch of hoops and lose the drm and thus be able to access them.
but if you're talking about normal regular access that sighted people take

Re: Daisy to mp3 converter for mac?

2012-01-27 Thread Daniela Rubio
Hello!
I have that program for PC. It was made by a particular person to extract the
mp3 files embedded in a daisy book and give them names in order for them to
appear in order if placed in a playlist.
Many people here are asking for that same function in mac environment. The
program for PC asks you where is your daisy book located and then, where you
want it to create the mp3 folder.
Well, If somebody can hel, it will be great!
Thanks!

Thanks for this, Turns out I could find the setting in messages but
not in the other apps I wanted to adjust. It looks like this setting

 probably already know, there is a toggle switch in
 settings--general--accessibility--voiceOver--speak notifications in
