These shortcuts are available in Lion also. Option M opens up Mail as well.
In Lion you need to have Apple script enabled for date and time reading to
work. I am not sure about ML.

I just tried these shortcuts in ML with keyboard commander turned on, and
they all worked. option S for safari, option T for date and time. Looks like

they're built-in default shortcuts, because I sure didn't set them up.

In lion I use to do

 1. option plus t for time and date announcement
 2. option plus S for safari
 3. option plus m for mail

How do I do this in mountain lion?

 Mark

I can get time and date to be announced using speakable items.

Re: Installing a solid state drive in a macbook pro

2012-08-26 Thread Dónal Fitzpatrick
Hi there,

Installing any sort of drive in a Macbook pro is dead handy. Just a few things
to watch out for:

1. in order to open the case (assuming you have the Unibody) you'll need a
small jewler's screwdriver. It's a philips head as far as I remember.
They're widely available. When you take the screws off just place them on a
surface in such a way as to ensure that the correct screw goes back in the
correct place, as they are of differing lengths.

2. When it comes to the drive itself, you'll need a screwdriver called a torx
6. Again these are widely available. The reason is that on your old drive
there are four things with screwheads which keep the drive firmly in place.

Best of luck,

Dónal

Re: VMware Fusion

2012-08-26 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello Chris

This has always been a grey area; but if you want to discuss Fusion, please
don't discuss your Windows configuration in this group. We make it very clear
in the policy document that discussing the virtual machine configuration is
fine; I think that is what you are doing here. But once it comes to Windows,
it's off topic.

Reading Esther's posts on list recently, as I have done since I got back home,
it seems that she discusses this very topic. So you might want to check the
list archives for more information.

System event logs on the Mac?Re: Free Os10 audio converter

2012-08-26 Thread Phil Halton
Last night, I went to bed leaving the iMac in a powered on state. I awoke
to hear the sound of the iMac powering on, as if someone had just pressed
the power button. I'm wondering if there is a system event log that I can
consult to see what happened? Is this behavior normal? I was thinking that
perhaps an automatic software update requiring a reboot happened without my
knowledge.
Any ideas what could have caused the iMac to reboot itself? Is there such a
system event log available?

Battery Time Remaining Brings More Battery Info to Mountain Lion’s Menu Bar

OS X: With Mountain Lion, Apple took away the ability to see your remaining
battery time in the menu bar. Free app Battery Time Remaining brings it back,
along with a few other goodies to keep your laptop alive.
Battery Time Remaining is a simple app that sits in your menu bar. It looks
exactly like the default battery icon, but adds a battery life indicator next
to it. Clicking on the icon brings you all the traditional options of the old
battery icon, plus a few extra features under Advanced Mode—particularly the
ability to customize battery notifications, so you know when it's reached a
certain level. It's handy for those of us that are always whittling our battery
down to its last few minutes.

Battery Time Remaining is a free download for OS X.

I cant' get note tote to work

Ok. I contacted the dev but he cannot reproduce the issue. I cannot get note
tote to work. Here's a link in the app store about it.

You can also download a 30 day trial on the dev's website which I did but when
I run it it never shows up on the menu bar. I'm using mountain lion but even
under lion when I tried it out I could not get it to work. I have simple note
on my iPhone so I can get it to work properly, so I don't really know what to
do from here. Here is a screen cast of what happens.

Can anyone shed some light on this as I download a lot of stuff for business
purposes and want to do this remotely if I can. so it is downloaded when I get
home to the folder of my choice.

Take care.

Re: Battery Time Remaining Brings More Battery Info to Mountain Lion's Menu Bar

2012-08-26 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hi,

Yeah, I'm not sure why they say it's not there. It shows on my MacBook Air too,
whether it's charging or discharging and how much time until battery is full as
well as how much battery remaining, respectively.

It does have one feature I do want though, and that's custom notifications.
I've been meaning to look into this myself, but I'm sure those who've had
projects in the works know how busy it can get when you start studying. Some
projects kind of are put on hold.

Nicolai

Battery Time Remaining Brings More Battery Info to Mountain Lion’s Menu Bar

OS X: With Mountain Lion, Apple took away the ability to see your remaining
battery time in the menu bar. Free app Battery Time Remaining brings it back,
along with a few other goodies to keep your laptop alive.
Battery Time Remaining is a simple app that sits in your menu bar. It looks
exactly like the default battery icon, but adds a battery life indicator next
to it. Clicking on the icon brings you all the traditional options of the old
battery icon, plus a few extra features under Advanced Mode—particularly
the ability to customize battery notifications, so you know when it's reached
a certain level. It's handy for those of us that are always whittling our
battery down to its last few minutes.

Battery Time Remaining is a free download for OS X.

Re: signatures in mail app

I don't know. All I did was copy the text of the signature delete it, make sure
I was in the account I wanted, created a new signature and pasted in the text.
There's probably a better way for for now until someone tells us both a better
way I'll keep going with this one lol!

You need to actually copy the signatures to the appropriate accounts by
dragging them from all to the email account you want in the sigs tab. ten
you can choose a sig after you check the box that says Place signature above

 Hope that helps.

WaveTap snags audio on your Mac with a keyboard shortcut | TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog

2012-08-26 Thread Sarah Alawami
I don't know how to install anything from the terminal. there's no app file for
this so good luck to those who want to use it. It sounds nice but what turned
me off is that you must use the terminal to install it from. or something like
that. I'm tired. lol!

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/08/24/wavetap-snags-audio-on-your-mac-with-a-keyboard-shortcut/

WaveTap snags audio on your Mac with a keyboard shortcut

Recording audio on the Mac just got a little easier thanks to WavTap, a nifty
audio utility created by Github user Patrick Ellis. Spotted by Peter Kirn of
Create Digital Music, the tool lets you record audio on your Mac using a
keyboard shortcut. You can use the customizable shortcut to both start and stop
the recording on the fly.

WavTap is a fork of Soundflower, an OS X system extension that lets you pass
audio from one application to another. Besides being a single channel device,
Soundflower also acts as a 16-channel device, which means WavTap can
potentially record input from a multichannel rig.

WavTap is open source and available for free on GitHub. There's no installer
included in the app, so users must have Xcode installed and know how to install
an app using Terminal.

Mountain Lion

2012-08-26 Thread christopher hallsworth
Hello all.
I have upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion earlier. It is excellent. Upgrading
was extremely simple and automatic once the mac rebooted. I had no problems at
all before, during or after the upgrade. I love the Extras Menu, as well as the
new messages app.
Just thought I would update you on how I am getting on with my mac. But talk
about progress when I only had it for a week!
Chris.

Yo Chris mate!

Oh I totally agree there. I'm loving mine! Thanks to Mr Crack!

Yes I know what you mean about the keystroke thing. Much better than the other
OS. Lol!

I totally agree there! I have had a MacBook for 2 years, and recently
upgraded to this one so I can have Mountain Lion. I love the fact that it is
so much easier to use in terms of Screen Reading, and installing an App is so
 much easier too.

I also live the intuitiveness of it, as you said, Chris.
Mac rocks and always will! Apple have really thought about their consumers
and not just them and the money! :)
 Cheers!

 Hello all.
Had the mac for 4 days now and absolutely love it. Oh why did I not switch

My observation is I am no where near afraid of trying apps compared to being
slightly so under the other OS. For example I know that a mac app is most
likely to be accessible. With the other OS it is hit and miss.
What are your thoughts on this?
I also love the intuitiveness as well. Once I have learnt a keystroke, I
know it is going to work across the board.
Again what are your thoughts on this?
Look forward to any comments on this.
