Problem editing mailboxes with VoiceOver.

2013-06-12 Thread sadam ahmed
Hi all,

I have a strange behaviour with VoiceOver on my iPhone when editing mailboxs.

Even though VoiceOver says draggable. When I hit the top left to reorder
mailboxs I am unable to move the mailbox to the top.

Any help with this appreciated.

Kind regards,

Mr Sadam Ahmed.

New to OS X: How do I open a new Finder window?

2013-06-12 Thread Stan Gowin
Hi,

I have inherited my daughter's Macbook Pro she used in college. I've
been a Windows user all these years and I'm finding simple tasks like
copying files from one place to another a bit daunting. I understand I
can use command-c to copy and command-v to paste, but is there a way
to get the source folder in one Finder window and the destination
folder into another Finder window? (using VoiceOver of course)

I've been able to select files but then I've been navigating
painfully back to the sidebar to select the destination folder for
the paste operation.

Please let me know if there's a better way. If this is explained in
the VoiceOver manual, just let me know that and I'll look for it
again.

Thanks very much.

If you press command shift C you will open a computer window very much like
Window My Computer and you can navigate anywhere from there whilst your
original window will stay open.
Actually though what I do ismake aliases to popular locations like books

You should also remember command shift H will open your home folder.
Command shift o will open your Document folder.

Skillsoft Web Site and Java

2013-06-12 Thread Martin G. McCormick
I am running OSX 10.6.8 and will need to access the
skillsoft.com web site which says it works with safari but isn't
working with this system yet.

When you choose safari, it has nice clear instructions
on what to do to make things work. First, you go in to safari,
clear the cache and make sure java and javascript are enabled.
They already were. The next thing is to open a new finder window
which I think I did by clicking on finder's icon in the dock,
going to the go menu and opening that which ultimately gets you
to javapreferences.

At that point, things went down hill. Javapreferences
opened and presented an empty table and that's as far as I could
get. The only thing left to do was force the window closed with
command-q.

What you are supposed to do is find something called
network and perform somee tasks such as deleting files, there.

It acts like java is either very sick or possibly not
even installed.

Any ideas are appreciated.

I've been able to select files but then I've been navigating painfully
back to the sidebar to select the destination folder for the paste
 operation.

Please let me know if there's a better way. If this is explained in the
VoiceOver manual, just let me know that and I'll look for it again.

 Thanks very much.

You can also put the folders in a list like thing that makes it easy to use on
the doc, or easier anyways. I'm going to send you an email off list so look out
for that and don't' be startled.

Be blessed.

You should also remember command shift H will open your home folder.
Command shift o will open your Document folder.
Command option L will open your downloads folder.

Remember that unlike in Windows you need to have Finder in focus for these

You can then either use Windows Chooser to move between these windows or
 use

Subject: New to OS X: How do I open a new Finder window?

 Hi,

I have inherited my daughter's Macbook Pro she used in college. I've been a
Windows user all these years and I'm finding simple tasks like copying
 files
from one place to another a bit daunting. I understand I can use command-c
to copy and command-v to paste, but is there a way to get the source folder
in one Finder window and the destination folder into another Finder window?
 (using VoiceOver of course)

I've been able to select files but then I've been navigating painfully
back to the sidebar to select the destination folder for the paste
 operation.

Please let me know if there's a better way. If this is explained in the
VoiceOver manual, just let me know that and I'll look for it again.

 Thanks very much.

IPhone and GMail

2013-06-12 Thread Jim Portillo
Hi there,

I know this is more of an IPhone question, but this has become a mystery to
me and I'm seeking a good solution to the problem.

Question. I've had a couple of email accounts going on my IPhone, since I
first got it, with no problems. One of them is my gmail account. Whenever
I'd delete messages from it on my IPhone, it would be no problem and I
wouldn't see them again. I just got back from being out of town, and to my
surprise, when I turned on my computer, all 2000 gmail messages that were
supposedly deleted came up on my computer. Why? No settings on the IPhone
had been changed. What do I need to do to prevent this from happening in
the future?

There was one time last week where I heard my IPhone say something like,
Messages could not be moved to trash folder. I've not heard that any
more.

This is very sudden. I have always used IMap settings on the phone. If my
computer downloads the messages, there's no problem.

Thanks,

Jim

VoiceOver and IOS7.

2013-06-12 Thread Geoff Waaler
Greetings,

I'm considering registering as a developer so that I can have access to the
IOS7 beta. A little cursory Googling suggests that this initial beta is very
rough around the edges. Still, I'd like to provide input about IOS7 before it
is released. My question (if anyone can respond without violating any NDAs) is
whether it is realistic for a totally blind person to install and use IOS7 on
his/her primary phone at this point in the IOS7 development cycle.

If answering here is getting into sticky territory, any/all private notes would
be greatly appreciated!

TIA, and best regards.

Re: IPhone and GMail

2013-06-12 Thread Bryan Jones
Hi Jim, I recently had the second issue you mentioned, the one where the
iPhone would say, unable to delete message when I attempted to delete any
emails from my gmail account. My other email accounts including iCloud and
Exchange did not exhibit this issue. Here's what fixed it for me on my ATT
iPhone 4S running the latest IOS6. This assumes you are using the native IOS6
mail client, not the gmail app or other mail client. Also, I'm not sure if this
will resolve your issue of the deleted items still showing up on your computer,
but it's worth checking.

1. On your iPhone go to settings / mail contacts calendar.
2. Double-tap the mischievous gmail account to open it.
3. Double-tap the Account button to open it.
4. Double-tap the Advanced button to open the advanced settings.
5. Select the item labeled Deleted mailbox. This item should have a mailbox
name associated with it. If it does not, double-tap and you will be presented
with a list of possible mailboxes. On my iPhone this includes the local iPhone
trash folder as well as the full list of server-side mailboxes for the chosen
gmail account.
6. Select the desired mailbox for your deleted items, probably a trash folder
in the list of gmail folders.
7. Scrub back to the Accounts page where you will want to double-tap the Done
button to save your settings.

In my case the mailbox selection for the deleted mailbox had somehow gotten
removed. Adding it back fixed my issue.

Bryan!

You nailed it. Thank you.
I think what was going on was that somehow, if the deleted messages didn't
reach the server, they went to my IPhone trash folder and not the server
trash folder. I reselected the server trash folder, and that did the trick.
Fantastic! Thank you for your help!

aliases VS. copy

2013-06-12 Thread Cathy
hello,

some one talked about creating aliases on the desktop for easy access. I have
seen this option in the menus. I have not used it, because I have simply been
copying folders to the desktop and pasting them in there. so what is the
difference? is one a shortcut and the other a second copy of the
folder/application?

thanks, Cathy

Re: VoiceOver and IOS7.

2013-06-12 Thread Geoff Waaler
Well, I can live with bugs, but wondered generally how rough it was for a VO
user. Bugs are one thing, but rendering the phone unusable is quite
another. I understand that it is easier to downgrade back to 6 than it was
to downgrade to prier versions.

Thanks for all replies so far.

2013-06-12 Thread Sarah k Alawami
I think this discussion is in violation of the nda of a developer hence why I
sent him a message off list just to be safe. Hope that helped btw.

Whereas this discussion is probably in violation of apple's nda I so move that
this discussion and all further discussions regarding ios and mavrics should
not be discussed on this or any other places until said operating systems, that
being mavrics and ios7, are released to the public this fall.

Take care, and sorry to be harsh but I take the apple nda seriously. I'm not

list does have a searchable archive anyone can access.

Be blessed and have a good evening all.

Re: aliases VS. copy

2013-06-12 Thread Sarah k Alawami
You got it. I have several of the little buggers on my desk top all pointing to
folders on both of my drives. Think of these as a link to a file/folder stored
any ware on your system including eternal drives. so instead of going to
/volumes/music/itunes/library/music I can just click the iTunes library alius
on my desk top and I'm there. You have to move the thing from there you
created the alius to the desk top though but it's all worth it.

Re: VoiceOver and IOS7.

2013-06-12 Thread Geoff Waaler
I suspect that Sarah is mostly correct. Its murky ground here. The fact
that IOS7 and mavrics beta code is available to anyone who opts to fork over
$99 to Apple is public knowledge, as are many up-coming features. I would
think that such discussions are topical.

If I signed the NDA and installed IOS7, and experienced problems, I suspect
that I am bound by the NDA not to dump that kind of information on a public
list, which is why I was inviting private contact.

Thanks again for all who have responded both publicly and privately.

Geoff

This discussion and all similar subjects not infringing upon the NDA to be
more acurate. Discuss ios7 and osx10.9 to the hills with speculations
rumours and feature wishlists obviously.

I think this discussion is in violation of the nda of a developer hence

Whereas this discussion is probably in violation of apple's nda I so move
that this discussion and all further discussions regarding ios and
mavrics should not be discussed on this or any other places until said
operating systems, that being mavrics and ios7, are released to the
public this fall.

Take care, and sorry to be harsh but I take the apple nda seriously. I'm
not moderator of this list but I don't want to see anyone get in trouble
as this list does have a searchable archive anyone can access.

Be blessed and have a good evening all.

Ihh, That was kind a rude. The guy was just asking a question, and
counter to your opinion, it's one of many, so I'd not just assume that
hardly anyone's gonna try it, and jump down his throat. Frankly, I
think that was a very valid thing to ask.

What would be the point of a beta, if no one came forward to chance
things. I mean, really? Sir?

Do you really need an answer to this question? Surely, if you sit in a
dark room, on your own, in silence, and ask yourself this question,
you will find the answer.

I'd be amazed if anyone risked there primary phone with a very early
beta version of the oS.

Greetings,

I'm considering registering as a developer so that I can have access
to the
IOS7 beta. A little cursory Googling suggests that this initial beta
is
very rough around the edges. Still, I'd like to provide input about
IOS7
before it is released. My question (if anyone can respond without
violating
any NDAs) is whether it is realistic for a totally blind person to
install
and use IOS7 on his/her primary phone at this point in the IOS7
development

cycle.

If answering here is getting into sticky territory, any/all private
notes

would be greatly appreciated!

TIA, and best regards.
