Question: Reading Webpages
Hi, I'm using Mac OSX 10.8.5. When trying to read the Google search results and moving to the next item using VO + right from the heading that has the webpage title, I hear things like this (each comma between the text enclosed in quotes means I press VO + right at this point): Test.com | The best test site, www, test.com, /, example. However, what I'd like to hear is this: Test.com | The best test site, www.test.com/example Namely, I'd like to navigate by line. Is this possible? RE: Question: Downloading Premium Voices
You need to go to Voiceover Utility and then find the Voice settings. If you customise the voice you will find a table with which you can interact which will show a list of available voices. You can then check these Voices and the Mac will download them. It is a little bit awkward with a need to interact and uninteract in and out of the table to view the options but if you investigate around there you should be able to find what you need. I think there is a podcast done by Sarah on this list which investigates the process. Try changing the punctuation settings of Voiceover in Safari. It sounds like you have it set to all. You might be better off with some or none. You can access the major settings of Voiceover, including punctuation, quickly by pressing control option command and right or left cursor keys to cycle through the settings. Changing country for iTunes Store
Good morning all. On the desktop version of iTunes it is possible to change the country of the store. Can I ask why would one want to do this? Would there not be any technical or legal ramifications for doing this? Let's just say I changed mine temporarily and it did work but quickly changed it back for the above concerns. Any comments greatly appreciated. RE: Question: Reading Webpages
Also in relation to navigating by line this is indeed possible. You need to check first of all that in Voiceover settings that you have line as an item for the web rota checked. I believe it is not checked by default. Just navigate to web rota settings and look for line and then press space to set this up. Now in Safari press left and right arrows to turn quick nav on. Press left and up arrow to cycle through the rota until you hear lines. Pressing down and up arrow will now navigate you by a line at a time. Left and right arrow will still read by paragraph or heading element. This is a good way of selecting text easily as you simply hold the shift key whilst pressing the down key. Unlike more clunky forms of text selection in Safari you will not be restricted to interactional elements like a paragraph. Question: Music Players On Mac OSX
Hi all, I'd like to have a player with iTunes' capabilities, but with an easier-to-navigate interface. Here are the things I'm looking for: - Playing music by folder structure, rather than tags: I have a lot of songs taht are not tagged properly. Using them with iTunes is a pain. - Easy to navigate in (E.G. through the use of hotkeys and such): iTunes is not good in this regard as I have to tab around a lot (E.G. to get to the list of albums when I have selected an artist, to search, etc). Anybody Using a HumanWare BrailleNote Apex 32 BT or QT with OS X?
Hi all Question is there. I can get the display to work, as in it works like the old Brailliant used to work. But I cannot get any of the commands to work, nor can I figure out how you do things like navigating OS X Mail. For instance, I think I know how to scroll left/right between windows. But how, for example, do you do things like open the address bar in Safari I also find that using BlueTooth with the multiple keyboard input commands, VoiceOver is very slow. Anybody else happened to have tried this? If so, probably better off list, but I’d sure appreciate some tips. iPhone app so I can go for a walk in the woods
Hi all, Having switched to an iPhone from a simbian, I'm now at the stage of no longer wanting to throw my iPhone down the garden but can see how the many apps are actually practical and useful. One thing I was wondering if there is an app for though... Could someone go out for a walk, logging their route as they went on their phone. They then pass me the route they took, and I can then follow that same route. I am after a sat nav for walking, but also where I have defined the route to take - not just the start and end points. I would like Voiceover to give me directions e.g. Continue on bearing 0 degrees for 100 metres, turn right in 10 metres and so on. My specific purpose is to see if I can go for a walk in the woods by myself. I live near a large forest which has a large network of well defined paths on it and I think my vision is good enough to follow a path, but I need to know which path is the right one. Other useful features might be for the person laying the path to be able to set comments such as Gate across path with handle to the right. Browsing the app store there are many GPS map applications but I suspect they are too graphically orientated and voiceover wouldn't give me sat nav like directions. Re: iPhone app so I can go for a walk in the woods
Hi Chris, I have used one called MyWay Classic. I have used it to mark a path in a park where I take my guide dog for a walk. You lay down a path of electronic breadcrumbs for a route. For example I marked the starting point, with several other points added as I made turns. Went back after doing the route to add comments at home for future use. Hope that helps a little. Problem using a headset
Hi all, Can anyone give me any hints about using a headset with my Mac? I have one which I can get working sometimes and not oner times. It's a Logitech H800 headset. It's meant to have both bluetooth and wireless which I thin complicates matters. The headset has three positions in the device selecter switch which I believe are off, bluetooth and wireless. Although it's hard to tell because sometimes when the audio has come through, I switch to the off position and the audio carries on coming no matter which position I pt the switch to. So I put the dongle in and switch the headset to what I believe is the wireless position. No sound comes through. I go to sound in system preferences and to the output tab, and here I am stumped because it seems impossible to just look through the available options with VO without actually picking one. So it starts set on internal speakers and there are 5 rows in the table but as soon as I start moving down the table VO goes silent, presumably because the sound is trying to output to a device which isn't connected/working. I have had this headset working a few times and I just can't fathom any pattern involving which switch I select, whether I put the dongle in first or last, whether I try to connect via the headset name in men extras/bluetooth or go to system preferences. It's possible the headset is faulty but this would seem odd as it has worked a few times and is quite new. Has anyone got any ideas? Is there any way of exploring those options in sound output under system preferences without actually activating them? And failing all that, has anyone got any recommendations of headsets which work properly for a baffled person like me? Re: Problem using a headset
Ok. to get your outputs so that vo will speak even when you have it set differently, go to the vo utilities and set under sound, cmd 6, the input to your internal speakers, not default input. This way you can switch outputs and have vo tell you which one. As for your headset problem I don't know as all of mine are hard wired. Take care. Re: iPhone app so I can go for a walk in the woods
That was going to be my suggestion, accept for the MyWay Lite. This way you could see if the app would work for you. This version is free. It works exactly like the paid version, so I won't repeat what has been said. Once a route has been saved, you can go and open it up and the route can be reversed to back out of your walk in the woods. This app was most helpful when camping in Yosemite this past summer in finding locations starting from the tent. Take a look. My one tip as others gave to me before using it on an actual route was to practice with it to familarize yourself on how it works. I know to get good compass directions, the phone needs to be in portrait on a horizontal plane. HTH. Re: iPhone app so I can go for a walk in the woods
Hello Chris, I'll add to Leo's suggestion by giving you the link to the free (lite) version of the app he mentions: • MyWay Lite (free) by Swiss Federation if the Blind https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/myway-lite/id494516234?mt=8 This has nearly all the features of the paid MyWay Classic version, except for the ability to transfer a route file via iTunes file sharing. You will also get messages suggesting that you purchase the paid version (for $14.99). However, this lets you try out the app and decide whether it is usable for you. Another app that you might be able to use is Ariadne GPS ($5.99). This is a LookAround app that gives you information about your surroundings and also lets you explore local maps and set POIs. It doesn't use electronic breadcrumbs the way MyWay Lite or Classic does, where you might need this feature for a setting with absolutely no paths (like camping in the wilderness). The reason I think this might work for you, is that the Apple Keynote video that featured Ariadne GPS at one of their iPhone product announcements showed this app being used by a visually impaired man to do exactly what you say you want -- walk independently in the forests near his home in Germany. Again, I think there was a similar network of paths. There's pretty extensive documentation about the Ariadne GPS app at their web site, including the video that Apple showed with this app featured at the start, links to a detailed user manual that was revised in August for the most recent version release, an FAQ, and podcasts. Here's the Ariadne GPS web page URL: http://www.ariadnegps.eu/ And here's the link to Ariadne GPS at the app store: • Ariadne GPS ($5.99) by Giovanni Cioffani http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ariadne-gps/id441063072?mt=8 I have two more suggestions: first, check the AppleVis web site for information on useful and accessible apps: • AppleVis http://www.applevis.com/ Secondly, since you're a new iPhone user, you might get the free ViA (Visually impaired Apps) app prepared by the Braille Institute as a starting point overview list of apps: • ViA - By Braille Institute (free) https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/via-by-braille-institute/id528499232?mt=8 HTH, and welcome to the list. Re: Opening A Link Embeded In An Email
Did you press vo space on the link? If you did this and safari did not open, try this. 1. navigate to the link in the email 2. hit vo shift m and choose open, or open behind mail, what ever is fine. That should help. Take care and be blessed. On Oct 19, 2013, at 11:39 AM, Eileens Misrahi eileen.misr...@gmail.com wrote: HELLO All, Last night I opened an email which had a link in it. I used VO-SPACE bar, but it didn't open the link within the email. I will try Sara's suggestion when I return home and have access to the Air. Thanks much to all of the responses. Re: What's the accessibility take on iOS7?
Hello Brenda Actually it was I, rather than Gordon, who responded; but no problem. iOS7.02 certainly brings up some issues regarding accessibility. What Gordon does like about it though is the messaging applet. It’s now far easier to quickly edit, respond too and delete messages than it used to be in iOS6. It was always possible to do, but not as quick and easy as it is now. I think Apple missed the boat in some respects. But then again, that leaves room for manoeuvre later in the lifetime of iOS, doesn’t it. :) Regarding the networking and server issues yes, it’s a positive minefield. One which Apple seems determined to make more and more difficult to navigate unless you happen to be a point-n-click corporate user who is administrating an internal IntraNet. For the kind of services which we require to do what we do they are making things virtually impossible. So we’re looking to evaluate where we go once Mavericks Server is released. 1Password Interchange File
Hello everybody I have a question. If you have a 1Password file which contains order details for a specific website, how are you supposed to view its contents? I tried doing the obvious thing, clicking on and opening the file. It does open up 1Password but it doesn’t reveal the contents it should. Any comment please? Re: What's the accessibility take on iOS7?
Sorry. I just know you guys have lots and lots of work with what you do, and believe me, it is appreciated. I always know when I come on here with question, I do get answers. Thank you, Brenda mailto:meadowlar...@cox.net - Original Message - From: Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith ly...@mac-access.net To: Mac OSX iOS Accessibility mac-access@mac-access.net Sent: Saturday, October 19, 2013 7:37 PM Subject: Re: What's the accessibility take on iOS7? If they continue to put the shutters up, we may need to investigate alternatives. But never fear, Mac Access is here to stay. Re: 1Password Interchange File
hello Dane To be more specific here. The file contains the output of a website from where I bought a MacUpdates promo. We never managed to complete the download owing to the site going down. So I need to try and download the whole bundle as a single disk image which is what the order offered me. That is why I am trying to view the contents of this order file and I had thought that it would have imported into 1Password Mac if I double-clicked the file. But no joy. So when you say export the file, as what? Sorry for being so dense on this one as Gordon would say but it needs to be sorted. Re: What's the accessibility take on iOS7?
hello Brenda Actually Gordon says he remembers you from a few years back. Yes, we’re always absolutely inundated with work both related to and not related to the project. We know that it’s appreciated by most if not all of our members and we are happy to do the job because we believe that we can provide a service to the community as a whole. We also get quite a lot out of it ourselves. Now, back to iOS7.02. The general consensus seems to be very positive on the whole. There are lots of things to come in the near future I think, and it’s quite an exciting time to be involved with this type of technology. There are, however, still quite a few applications kicking around in the utilities section of the App Store which are not, but should be, fully accessible. For instance, the BBC iPlayer doesn’t appear to be working right with VoiceOver from what I’ve read elsewhere. I haven’t tried it, but I’m sure others have. As for the native OS and internal applications, has anybody found any aspect of iOS7 itself which isn’t accessible? Lynne On 20 Oct 2013, at 03:44, meadowlark77 meadowlar...@cox.net wrote: Sorry. Re: 1Password Interchange File
Can you export it in to text edit or text express and see if it opens up in there? Good luck.
