reminders app and select the list I want. Then, as I walk through the store
with the iPhone in my hand, I run my finger down the list (or flick right and
left) to hear its contents. no need to print or email anything. And, if I have
a sighted assistant helping me find the items, they also hear the items read
aloud and that helps us to work together as a team so to speak.
You can tell siri to show grocery list, for example, but opening the list in
reminders gives more flexibility in using the list. For example, you can check
off,or delete the items from the list as you go - -something not possible when
the list is simply shown.
I think we're expecting a level of complexity that simply isn't there. After
all, why print out the list when you can simply carry it with you, checking off
items as you go?

As an aside, when adding items to your list as you think of them, if siri gets
it wrong, you can interact with her and tell her to change title. then,
re-speak the item name. Siri will ask confirmation of your item and then add it
to the list. It's a lot easier for me now to add items to my various lists as I
think of them, wherever I may be. No more sitting down and trying to come up
with a complete list (which inevitably lacks one or two items).

 Greetings Dane and list,

First of all, thanks Phil for the suggestion. I knew that the reminders app
was powerful, but I'd never looked at lists. Now from preliminary testing, I
have a few suggestions for retrieving the list data.

 1. Tell siri something like: show my grocery list.

 2. go into reminders - list name.

Hopefully someone can come up with a better suggestion, but it appears to me
that in order to eMail or print, you would need to traverse your list item by
item and select and paste. The three finger quadruple tap gesture introduced
in IOS7 will speed up the process of copying the items, but I can see where
this method would involve a lot of toggling around between Mail and Reminders
if the list gets long. Siri will read multiple items though, hence the
gesture referenced above may save a lot more time.

As for printing, I use an app called PrinterPro by Readdle.com. This app
supports printing from the clipboard, texts, or eMail messages.

 Best regards.

Using Siri, you can use the add keyword to add items to your list, and
then once finished with the list , you can easily delete them off the list
with a flick and tap of the actions menu.

 Example:
add eggs, butter, bread and milk to grocery list.
or, add to grocery list, eggs, butter, bread and milk
that will put a reminder in the grocery list that says eggs, butter,
 bread and milk.
As long as siri is up and running this method is so quick and easy that I
don't bother with writing out lists in textedit or the notes program

The important thing is to use the keyword add, and the name of the list

Modifying date in Pages

2013-11-07 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello everyone,

We’ve worked out how to change the date format in Pages. Instructions below.

Cheers,

Anne

Highlight the date and time. Bring the mouse and do VO-Shift-Space. You’ll hear
the current date followed by “Pop up button”. Click this button to get a menu
giving various forms of the date. Use VO-w to spell out each one and select the
one you prefer by pressing Return.
The Choose Date Format pop up window opens where you can change the date and
time format as well as its values. The unlabelled button to the right of Set to
today is the Calendar button. Tip: you can label this button using VO-Slash.
Clicking the Calendar button allows you to set any date you like. Press Return
when you’re done.

I've not played yet but am wondering if Pages supports a Fixed Date function?
By that I mean the date changes relative to the date the document was last
edited or modified.

Re: Shopping Lists was Using Pages On My iPon

2013-11-07 Thread Dane Trethowan
Points taken, I'm going to have a look at the Printer Pro App after I've
finished my breakfast, this App handles a wide variety of printing jobs so
perhaps printing reminders is one? Either that or perhaps you can use the Notes
App with Siri in much the same way as you're using the Reminders App.

Printing - if I possibly can - is the best method for me in noisy background
environments where I can hardly hear what my sighted assistance is saying let
alone what the iPhone is babbling about but certainly! if I could I'd be using
your method of swiping through the list.

(solved) sorting tables in Numbers.

2013-11-07 Thread Dónal Fitzpatrick
Evening folks,

I can’t take the credit for this one, but it works. Sorting a table of data in
Numbers under Mavericks is actually dead easy. It’s also blindingly obvious
when you read it.

Here’s the procedure:

1. Firstly, press VO-Vertical bar.
2. Select the Column/row.
3. ON the header you want to sort by, VO-Shift-M for options.
4. then hit VO-vertical bar to exit.

of course this Vo-Vertical Bar is used all over the place to sort any number of
tables so I should have thought of it.

All the best,

Express Talk VOIP Software Phone

2013-11-07 Thread Dane Trethowan

Sent from Dane's iPhone +613400494862
Hi!

I just managed to get the Express Talk App working properly, I've had this App
installed on the Mac for quite some time - bought it 3 years ago I think it was.

Up until yesterday I was having some audio issues with the App which have now
thankfully all been sorted thanks to Google and the excellent support guides
that my VOIP provider have made available.

There's much to be said for Express Talk including its accessibility though
some technical knowledge e may be required to set up your VOIP phone depending
on the system you plan to use.

I'm using the Business edition of the software which is feature packed, you can
select from multiple audio inputs and outputs to customise your audio and the
software has a recording facility which works very well, calls are recorded in
wave format which can be played with an audio player such as iTunes or VLC.

Express Talk offers the user the ability to configure multiple keyboard
shortcuts to control various aspects of the phone and - once again - the
configuration of these shortcuts is fully accessible through the Express Talk
preferences.

The home Edition of Express talk - whilst having many of the features of the
business edition locked - is available free of charge, registration of the
Business Edition costs $49.00

Passing on a coupon code for clean my mac 2

2013-11-07 Thread Matthew Carello
Hello all I received a coupon code from an email i received. It is for 30
percent off of clean my mac and other products. The link in the original email
did not work but I pasted the coupon code into the purchase area for clean my
mac from within the app and it worked. I am not sure how long this is good for
but it is coupon code NTTD30 . Just wanted to pass it along. Note all letters
are in capital.

Re: Problem with VMWare fusion on Mavericks

2013-11-07 Thread Esther
Hello Paul,

A search of the Apple Discussion forums brought up the suggestion that you
change the network adapter settings from Share with my Mac to Autodetect.
Apparently this solves the network connection issues under VMWare 5.03 running
under Mavericks for many people. However, there are also reports that some VM
systems are running with higher CPU usage and fans coming on compared to the
same systems running under version 6. These reports seem to vary, so just
monitor your own performance specs for your Mac.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

 Hello,
I am running Windows 7 via fusion 5 on Mavericks. It all works fine except
that I cannot access the Internet via Windows. My fusion settings for network
adapter say that the adapter is shared with my Mac which I think is correct.

I know that discussion of Windows is off topic but has anyone successfully
accessed the Internet via Windows via fusion 5 on Mavericks? I wonder if I
need to change some Mac or fusion setting or maybe upgrade to fusion6?

 Many thanks.
