Re: Really odd Issue With Mac And Spacebar

2014-01-22 Thread Sarah k Alawami
I have never had the issue but I'll take a stab at what could be gong on as I'm
having some odd things myself not key board related.

what happens if you reboot the computer?

What happens if you close all apps then log out and back in?

does this happen if you have any particular piece of software running?

Have you checked your disk for errors when booted in to the recovery consul?

I'm also thinking a key is stuck software wise, like something to do with the
mouse Did you disable the mouse keys with 5 presses of the option key to see if
that works?

This is all I can think of this late at night so good luck and hope that gets
you on the right track.

Really odd Issue With Mac And Spacebar

2014-01-22 Thread Gordon Smith
Hello all

I’m currently experiencing a really odd issue with my Mac. No matter what I
try, I’m unable to use my space bar without using a modifier key such as the
shift key when pressing space. Does anybody happen to have any suggestions as
to why this might be?

Now and then, if I forget to use the modifier key, kind of system window which
Lynne says looks like the window that you sometimes get if you right-click on
an object or similar, using the physical trackpad or a mouse.

If anybody can help me resolve this, i’d be most grateful as it’s driving me
absolutely bananas.

Kind regards

Using the Mac and VoiceOver with WordPress.com.

2014-01-22 Thread Sadam Ahmed
Hi all,

I believe there are some list members who use the WordPress.com standard to
manage their blogs.

I've tested the below website which is in my signature with 3 of the other
screen readers.

My questions are:

1.

How is one use social plug-ins with the WordPress.com standard?

2.

When I use the WordPress.com mobile application to try to view my posts I get
the message " cannot load posts please check your credentials."

This is despite the fact that I have logged in to the mobile application using
the correct credentials for my domain.

Quite befuddled with this one.

I'm happy to connect on Skype with anyone who can give assistance just to keep
list traffic to a minimum. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

I never rely on the browser.I rely on raw data and because my computer is oso
old I'v etaken to using the terminal for just about everything except my

If you see that you are getting good tims and no packet los you will know if
you are running on a good wifi signel.

If how ever you launch safari and the page loads, fine, but you won't know if
your signle is good enough to be productive.

You can use an application known as easy find, which allows you to find any

2014-01-22 Thread Geoff Stephens
Of course, I know all the keystrokes to switch accounts, etc. They are in the
menus. Anyway, on to the next question.

Oh, and by the way, packet loss won’t be detectable simply by visiting an
uncached site. The suggestion to use ping or even traceroute to determine
packet loss is a good one.

Anyway, now that I have the preferences, etc, in the trash, since I am a fairly
new Mac user, maybe someone can tell me whether there is a way to determine
where those files in the trash originated? I would like to know the locations
of the files so that I can compare and try to further isolate what caused the
issue. It is not immediately obvious how to determine where the files in the
trash came from. I tried Command I but that didn’t do it.

Ok, I've noticed that adium periodically announces that there is a new
window, but I can't figure out how to toggle to the new window, or how to
go back to my contacts without closing a chat. I'm using the latest

Whoops. I knew it was something like that, I just couldn't remember
exactly, which is sad, seeing I have both my personal and our work twitter
set up in there.

Jeff, Chris and all,

I just checked, and the command to switch accounts in Yorufukurou is
command+option+up and down arrows.

I agree with Ben that it could! ok, key word, could! be a wifi or
ethernet issue. Remember Ben, just because you're on wifi doesn't mean
everyone is. He might actually be on ethernet, so don't just assume that
as the only possibility. That said, I do agree it sounds like you're
having some sort of a connection issue. Does the internet work for you
outside of YoruFukurou? Second of all, when's the last time you checked
for updates to the app? I wonder if either something in your account
broke or maybe it's having issues communicating back and forth with
Twitter's API? I don't necessarily mean your API calls. I'm talking
more generally about the API in a whole which allows YoruFukurou or any
other twitter client to connect to their servers.

The other thing too you may wanna try, Jeff, is to completely remove all
broken Twitter accounts from YoruFukurou's preferences, then re-add them,
and see if that helps.

Also, are you sure you're on your timeline tab? Open up the app, and hit
command+num row 1. This will reset your view, and confirm beyond a
doubt that you're truely on your timeline. Also, if you have multiple
accounts set up, try command up and command down arrows I think it is, to
move through the different accounts. See if all your accounts in there
are broken and are consisting of this unusual behavior.

Subject: Problem with Yorufukirou

Having a problem for the past week or so with Yorufukirou that I can’t
seem to solve.

Whenever I load it, there is a message that says “preparing” and a
progress indicator. This never goes away and my timelines for multiple
accounts do not load. In fact, nothing else happens at all. I did get
the message that I was rate limited once or twice, but that never even
happens now. I went into preferences and made sure the refresh was set
to a sensible time in case that was truly the problem.

So the problem is that I can’t figure out how to completely remove
Yorufukurou and reinstall it. Whenver I remove it and reinstall, the
same situation occurs. I have looked for its associated
caches/preferences and it doesn’t seem to have any that I can find. I am
using the App Store version. I thought when you trashed an app from the
App Store, it was entirely removed. Apparently, that may not be the
case. Has anyone experienced this issue and possibly solved it?

So, it sounds to me like probably one of your PList preferences files
somehow got corrupted. When you ran apptrap as Ben suggested, that would
have removed that file, and when you reinstalled, it would have put the file
back, noncorrupted. Granted, the file would have had the default
configuration values set, so, like you, I agree, oh, joy! Funness! LOL!
Not? But yeah, seriously, that's probably exactly what the deal was, if I
had to assume.

This is the second app that has mysteriously failed in a similar manner in

I think it’s because I’m having to do hard resets when my sound stops
working upon waking the Macbook Air from sleep. I have followed suggestions
to disable the hard disk sleep but it hasn’t helped. This seems to happen
most when changing from battery power to AC.

good point.

2014-01-22 Thread Christopher gilland
Sarah, no offense, but do you think that may be a bit overkill? I see where
you're going with this, don't get me wrong, It's a good suggestion, please
don't mistake what I'm saying. But, why go through all that, when all he'd
have to do is bring up Safari or such, and try to pull up a web site and see
if it works. OK, there is the whole caching locally thing which could
deceive you with that method, but that's why you go to a web site you'd
normally never have a need to visit. for example, I have Road runner
through time Warner Cable, so, one time, I went to the Comcast home page.
We don't even have Comcast anywhere geographically even close to this area,
so I knew that would be a web site I definitely wouldn't most likely ever
visit on a normal circumstance, thus, it couldn't already have the dns
record cached locally.

The reason this could be a wifo [roblem is because I'v head the same thing
happen. when my wifi goes out, nothing happens and yorufukurou does not load
and I also get the preparing thing. Try pinging a web site via the terminal
and testing to see if you get any packet los as this is a good test to
diagnose where the problem might be.

Take care.

Re: Problem with Yorufukirou

2014-01-22 Thread Christopher gilland

Jeff, I'd have to agree with Ben partially. Not entirely though.

I agree with Ben that it could! ok, key word, could! be a wifi or ethernet
issue. Remember Ben, just because you're on wifi doesn't mean everyone is.
He might actually be on ethernet, so don't just assume that as the only
possibility. That said, I do agree it sounds like you're having some sort
of a connection issue. Does the internet work for you outside of
YoruFukurou? Second of all, when's the last time you checked for updates to
the app? I wonder if either something in your account broke or maybe it's
having issues communicating back and forth with Twitter's API? I don't
necessarily mean your API calls. I'm talking more generally about the API
in a whole which allows YoruFukurou or any other twitter client to connect
to their servers.

The other thing too you may wanna try, Jeff, is to completely remove all
broken Twitter accounts from YoruFukurou's preferences, then re-add them,
and see if that helps.

Also, are you sure you're on your timeline tab? Open up the app, and hit
command+num row 1. This will reset your view, and confirm beyond a doubt
that you're truely on your timeline. Also, if you have multiple accounts
set up, try command up and command down arrows I think it is, to move
through the different accounts. See if all your accounts in there are
broken and are consisting of this unusual behavior.

Subject: Problem with Yorufukirou

Having a problem for the past week or so with Yorufukirou that I can’t seem
to solve.

Whenever I load it, there is a message that says “preparing” and a progress
indicator. This never goes away and my timelines for multiple accounts do
not load. In fact, nothing else happens at all. I did get the message that
I was rate limited once or twice, but that never even happens now. I went
into preferences and made sure the refresh was set to a sensible time in
case that was truly the problem.

So the problem is that I can’t figure out how to completely remove
Yorufukurou and reinstall it. Whenver I remove it and reinstall, the same
situation occurs. I have looked for its associated caches/preferences and
it doesn’t seem to have any that I can find. I am using the App Store
version. I thought when you trashed an app from the App Store, it was
entirely removed. Apparently, that may not be the case. Has anyone
experienced this issue and possibly solved it?

Lol. as for the voice over guide all of those short cuts are labeled in
the menus. I just memorized the hot keys I need, not all of them though.
I've been using and loving adium nightly builds for over 3 years now and
apart from their ticket system being so odd that I can't submit any
tickets it is a very good app to use and a lot of extras and sound packs

Could it be possible that you have it set as I stated earlier where each
conversation is in a seperet window, instead of within a separate tab in the
same window? I could potentially see how that wouldn't allow those commands
to work if so. I dono... just a thought worth looking at perhaps.

Re: adium

2014-01-22 Thread Christopher gilland
The thing with it saying it has a new window is sort of, ish, a bug. I say
sort of, because what's happening is, in your main contact window, I have
never quite understood why this occurs, but whenever someone either changes
status, or signs off, for some reason, Voiceover sees that as a new window
popping up when your contact list refreshes to reflect the new status. I
agree that it's kind of bizarre, but there actually isn't another window
popping up. I can see though where this really would be confusing. I know
at first for me it sure was. I was like... OK, where on earth's that other
window, for goodness sake!

Another thing you can do is command left or right arrow to cycle through
your conversations. I'll have to look at where the prefernce is but there
is also a setting where you can make each conversation its own window, so
your vo+F2 F2 for your window choose4r menu will let you go between
conversations. It's all about how you want to set it up.

Problem with Yorufukirou

2014-01-22 Thread Geoff Stephens
Having a problem for the past week or so with Yorufukirou that I can’t seem to
solve.

Whenever I load it, there is a message that says “preparing” and a progress
indicator. This never goes away and my timelines for multiple accounts do not
load. In fact, nothing else happens at all. I did get the message that I was
rate limited once or twice, but that never even happens now. I went into
preferences and made sure the refresh was set to a sensible time in case that
was truly the problem.

So the problem is that I can’t figure out how to completely remove Yorufukurou
and reinstall it. Whenver I remove it and reinstall, the same situation
occurs. I have looked for its associated caches/preferences and it doesn’t
seem to have any that I can find. I am using the App Store version. I thought
when you trashed an app from the App Store, it was entirely removed.
Apparently, that may not be the case. Has anyone experienced this issue and
possibly solved it?

Thanks man, and I'm serious. If one of you who is better versed in Adium than I
could compile a list of voiceover key commands, I and I'm sure others would
find it extremely helpful.

2014-01-22 Thread Sarah k Alawami
Lol. as for the voice over guide all of those short cuts are labeled in the
menus. I just memorized the hot keys I need, not all of them though. I've been
using and loving adium nightly builds for over 3 years now and apart from their
ticket system being so odd that I can't submit any tickets it is a very good
app to use and a lot of extras and sound packs you can install.

Take care.

makes the sound to announce the incoming message, what voiceover command
can I use to actually find and view the message? Thanks

That's weird… When you are in adium you should be able to do the command thing
and it should work.

Re: adium

2014-01-22 Thread Laurel and Stockard
Ok, I've noticed that adium periodically announces that there is a new window,
but I can't figure out how to toggle to the new window, or how to go back to my
contacts without closing a chat. I'm using the latest version. It appears that
I need a simple tutorial on this, any good ones out there? I've only found ones
from years ago.

I've tried for example command plus the number 1, and it won't do anything. I
know that once I find the conversation, it's in the html content, but finding
it is driving me crazy.

You can press the command key and any of the number keys on the keyboard to go
