RE: Trying to Find VmWare Fusion 7

2014-09-09 Thread Kliphton Senior
I have used it and see no difference in it from version 6 to version seven.
I also have an SSD, so that might have a lot to do with it. For windows
running in fusion it depends on a few things. What you plan on doing with
it, how much memory and hard drive space you have available, and what screen
reader you will be using. So I will tell you what I use. I use 4GB of ram,
250GB hard drive, I use jaws 15, and I have no I issues. Now I know people
who have used as little as 2GB of ram, and only 20GB of hard drive space. I
made mine with the configurations above, because I had to use it for my
business and didn't want any problems. But not everyone has the same specks
available that I did with 16GB of ram, 1TB of hard drive space, running a i7
quad core processor. HTH

I did actually ask you if you had used it and how much memory is required on
the hard drive? Perhaps if you do not know the answers someone else would
be good enough to respond to this mail.

Looks like they're the same as for Fusion 6.

Hello everybody

As you probably know by now if you have your finger on the pulse of
virtualisation technologies, the battle of the giants is really hotting up now.
As somebody who is fortunate enough to be able to evaluate both Parallels
Desktop 10 and Fusion Professional 7 in fully licensed modes, I can tell you
that there is a really noticeable speed increase in both of these products with
the release of Apple’s latest technologies and APIs build into the operating
system to make it both Mavericks and Yosemite compatible. I am currently
running Windows 8.1 Professional under Fusion 7 and Lynne is as I write
finishing off the setup of the sane operating system under Parallels. By the
way, we’re going to make it easy for anybody who wants to download the new
evaluation of Fusion, if, that is, there’s any demand for it. We will post it
in an accessible place and let you grab it at your heart’s content.

That aside, I can honestly say that running Fusion now with this new version is
just like running Windows in a native environment. They’ve obviously done a
lot of fine tuning and the result is staring me in the face right now. And it
honestly could not have come at a better time. Just as we’re expanding what
we’re offering to our clients and friends, (more about that soon), so this
comes along.

Actually it was released on 2 September, but I just didn’t get around do doing
anything about it until now. All I can say is “Wow!”

Anybody want it made available for download?

Gordon

2014-08-30 Thread Kliphton Senior
I haven't used google drive in over a year because of the lack of
accessibility. I heard it's better now. but all I use google drive and drop
box for now is the free storage. To keep things I have copies of, but just in
case. As for bitt torrent sync, like Sarah said, it just works! I have shared
my entire iTunes library with a group of people and we had no hickups. And I
am talking a tarabite and half of music and movies. No upload, no waiting for
downloads, just peer to peer, and what ever space you have on your internal, or
external drive, where ever you choose to put the target folder.

Hi Phil

I user a high-end thunderbolt drive for my DropBox folder. If your drive
becomes disconnected, for any reason, DropBox pops up a window in the
chooser giving you the option to relink or quit.

It's the only way I know to get at that context menu. Of course, first route
the mouse to the dropbox icon, then hold down the option key and click the
mouse on your air/pro, or on an external mouse open the preferences menu
item in the drop down menu and under "account", you can change the default
location of the dropbox folder. I'm not sure if you can successfully use an
external disc, but go ahead and experiment with some dummy files and see
what happens when you pull the plug.
under "account", You can also use selective sync to limit the folders that
dropbox syncs onto your mac, if space is a concern. But, you'll need sighted
assistance to click the various folders that you want to sync and uncheck
those you don't want on your machine.

It's not creating a new account, you have to go there to add the account you
just deleted. So yes it says add new, but you are basically putting the

Yes, just go back to system preferences, go to the accounts tab, and add an

RE: restoring an account in Mail?

2014-08-21 Thread Kliphton Senior
Yes, just go back to system preferences, go to the accounts tab, and add an
account. Or you can go to the main system preferences of your mac, and add
it in internet accounts.

Well, I went ahead and created an icloud email hame. I then got a message
about having created this and I accidently hit the "no" button. Not sure
what that does. I went back and the email address is still there.
However, I didn't see any box to create a password. Do I just use my
appleid password for email?

Just hope I didn't screw it up.

Re: a question about sharing files between two partitions

2014-08-16 Thread Kliphton Senior
I could be wrong, but I don't think you can share files between partitions.
Also, they say the best way to test this beta is to get your system the way you
want it, do a time machine backup, and then do the upgrade. If it's not what
you want or like, then you can go bak to mavericks. Some are partitioning, but
I can confirm that the beta has a bug in partitioning. Even if you have a
second partition named something else, the beta names them the same thing.
Even when you try to delete one, it doesn't give you that space back. So you
will have to boot into disc recovery, erase both partitions, and then restore
from the time machine backup. The only reason I am still on the beta, is
because mavericks won't let me use my iTunes library because it says it is from
a newer version. And my iTunes library is over 6TB and that is to much to do
over. JMO

Question, how do you use it to control your cable? I have the Apple TV, and
find all the icons for Hulu Netflix etc. is there supposed to be one for my
cable? Otherwise, I'm not sure how you would control the cable with Apple
TV.

hopefully, since this is Apple related, this isn't o/t. I apologize if it
is.

I'd like to learn more about the Apple TV and how it increases accessibility
for the blind with regards to TV watching. Who can tell me more, or point me
to a blindness resource where I can learn more? Also, I have Cable TV but
obviously I can't access all the menus because my TV doesn't talk. With the
Apple TV connected to your TV, does anyone use that to control your cable
and access the different channels etc?
Thanks

Hi everyone. Sorry this is a bit late, but I've been going through my email
and deleting unwanted messages to try and find the root cause of a rather
odd problem. But here is a tip I found yesterday on AppleVis, which can help
with email verbosity. Apologies in advance if this is a duplicate post. But
you can actually control how much of the message is read when just arrowing
to it or going through email for the first time or whatever. To do this,
bring up the View menu by going to mail Preferences with Command-Comma, and
then tab to the View menu. I had to turn Quicknav on in order to find the
exact setting, but it is called List Preview. You will find a pop-up menu
which lets you control the number of lines read after announcing the
message. Hope this helps someone.

Re: how to wipe my entire Mac drive including all partitions?

2014-07-26 Thread Kliphton Senior
Well, was finally able to do this, I guess there is a glitch in yosemidy that
keeps you from doing things normally. I had to eject the partition, erase it,
then I was able to remove it. Weird. Acording to google, lots of users are
experiencing this.

Just search for them at the top of the contacts table, instead of going to
the table index, it will go a lot faster.

Subject: iOS Question - Accessing A Telephone Contact

Hi All, when I want to contact someone on my iPhone, I use the Table Index
at least to move to the given alphabetic letter of their name. However,
once there of about 17 people whose name begins with the letter L I then
have to go through each until I locate the one I want which might be the
17th on a list of 20!!! On my old Nokia phone using Talks I could get to a
contact even faster than this. Is there any faster method I might use?

RE: Converting vob video files.

2014-07-24 Thread Kliphton Senior
There are plenty. Just a matter of what you want for quality, and if you
want to pay or get something for free that might not work. The 2 I have
used are pretty good. Won is called "wonder share" I share a license with
a friend, and we paid 75 bucks. This thing converts any format. AVI, Vob,
WMA, WMV, and the main one I got it for was MKV. But it does a lot more
formats than that. You can also load a store bought DVD, and rip that too
your iTunes library, you need a plug in for it, but this program shows you
where to get it from. The other one I have used is called Movavi video
converter. This one is only 25 bucks, but version 4 is not completely
accessible. Version 3 is, but not 4. It's in the ape store, the first one
is not.

I put my Documents folder on the Dock but when I open it vo does not read

got a sound like I could not do this. Is Documents folder not suitable for

this works on my iPad, but not under OS X Mavericks, which is where I'm
trying to read the book. I'm specifically asking about the OS X version of
iBooks, not the iOS version.

I was able to read it just fine. In order to get to the table of contents,
double tap on list view, and then swipe to the right threw the options. When
you get to the one you want, then double tap and it should begin reading.

This book introduces the Macintosh to VoiceOver users stepping up to the Mac
from the iPhone or iPad. It contains detailed chapters on setting up your Mac,
Macintosh Basics, Using Mail, Using Contacts, Using Safari, Using Pages, and
Using Numbers. The text book is the product of 10 years of teaching the
Macintosh to veterans with blindness and low vision. Both VoiceOver and Zoom
are covered in detail.
