Hello Leo,

Here’s the e-mail address for Sam Jewell:
>> sam.jew...@gmail.com

The Giraffe Reader is not as good as the StandScan Pro as it doesn’t have its
own lighting. However, it can be used in situations where the StandScan would
not be feasible, such as in a restaurant to read the menu. The Giraffe Reader
is much smaller to carry, takes up less space when erected and only weighs 70 g.

The Giraffe Reader could be very helpful to anyone who has trouble positioning
the iPhone to take pictures of text. I have both the StandScan Pro and the
Giraffe Reader and consider them complementary.

Cheers,

Anne

Hello,

I have been trying to find info on the vendor for the Giraffe Reader and have
not had any success.

At this point could someone send me the e-mail for the vendor of Giraffe
Reader. I am keen to see how well it would do in comparison to the StandScan,

Thanks in advance for help in this matter.

2008, GP figures show. 1 his meanb 070 ui u.
850,000 more have diabetes without knowing it. Diabetes UK says the rise
 is largely fuelled by
type 2 diabetes, linked to obesity and unhealthy lifestyles. The survey
 combined GP data from
England^Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to calculate the overall
 figure of how many people
in the UK are diagnosed with diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes accounts for about a tenth of cases and occurs when the
 insulin-producing cells in
 the body have been destroyed.
Type 2 diabetes develops when the insutin-producing cells in the body are
unable to produce enough insulin, or when the insulin that is produced
 does not work properly.
Insulin enables the body to use sugar as energy and store any excess in
 the liver and muscle.
If this fails, blood sugar rises and this can cause long-term
 complications, such as kidney damage.
The NHS spends 10% of its budget on diabetes and 80% of this goes on
treating consequences such as amputation, kidney failure, heart disease
 and stroke.
 TEXT 2: HiRh Blood Pressure
 What Causes High Blood Pressure?
The exact causes of high blood pressure are not known, but several factors
and conditions may play a role in

Too much salt in the diet
Too much alcohol consumption (more than 1 to 2 drinks per day)

Re: Giraffe Reader

2014-03-13 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Anne.

Are you using an IPhone 5 or a 5s. I am afraid that these two models needs
different distances. I do not know if I am right or wrong. I am sure we need to
think about light conditions.

I think I will order one of these giraffe readers. I am doing a lot of
experiments taking the pictures with my phone, and recognizing with finereader
for the mac.

Best regards Annie.

Hello Sarah,

I think that shipping will take longer to the US as it will be coming from
England. France, where I live, is just a short hop across the English Channel.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Giraffe Reader

2014-03-13 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Sarah,

Esther has described the Giraffe Reader very well. It is extremely light and
measures 26 cm by 21 cm or about 10.5 in by 8.5 in. It isn’t as stable as the
StandScan Pro but is even more portable. I can see myself using it in
restaurants to read the menu, which would be rather difficult with the
StandScan Pro. I now have both products and can see uses for both of them.

One thing about the Giraffe Reader is that it was designed for blind users and
therefore qualifies for free shipping. It takes longer to arrive (mine took 6
days from across the channel) but it means that you don’t have to add anything
to the basic price.

I’d recommend using the Giraffe Reader with Prizmo as you can take your hands
away before the picture is taken, thereby avoiding the risk of shaking the
iPhone. However, it works for me whether I use Prizmo or TextGrabber.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi Sarah,

Last week Eleanor posted:

If you are looking for an OCR solution at a reasonable price, Sam Jewell
has designed a stand to get exact distance from camera to the print
page. Have a look at Sam's video here. I put his contact detais below
the link for anyone interested.

Sam'e e-mail address is below, also his telephone number

sam.jew...@gmail.com

This is a light-weight portable stand (cardboard reinforced with a plastic
coating?) for OCR with an iPhone. Unlike the StandScan Pro, there is no
lighting source, but it sounds as though it would fold down more for easy
carrying. Anne asked about pricing information, and I found his Twitter
page in which he said $45. Anne ordered in Euros, shipped to France, and
said she would report back. They have a web sign-up page for more
information, but they're not really set up to do more than take email
addresses:

I had posted a link of Sam giving a demonstration of the stand about a week

The exact causes of high blood pressure are not known, but several factors
and conditions may play a role in

its development, including:
Smoking
Being overweight or obese
Lack of physical activity
Too much salt in the diet
Too much alcohol consumption (more than 1 to 2 drinks per day)
Stress
Older age
Genetics
Family history of high blood pressure
Chronic kidney disease
Adrenal and thyroid disorders
If your blood pressure is extremely high, there may be certain symptoms to
look out for, including:

Severe headaches
Fatigue or confusion
Vision problems
Chest pain
Difficulty breathing
Irregular heartbeat
