 Hi list,

Each time i find out about an inaccessible application, i actually
take the time to check the help topics and figure the interface out.
In this case, i'm checking the oomniplan gant chart maker.

I wanted to know what the command or sequence was to create your own
 labels on unlabelled elements.

Has anyone done that and found their productivity increase
exponentially? Does anyone have that for garage band? Ok i digress,
maybe let's start with the actual labelling part

 Can anyone help? thanks

A website where we could upload labels?

2009-10-10 Thread Søren Jensen

Hi.

It would be really awesome if someone would make a website, where we
could share our lable files to Voiceover. I could of course make that
kind of website, but to avoid having tons of different websites, it
would be nice to have all that kind of stuff on the maccessibility
website. What do you all think?
I haven't started to lable any unlabled buttons yet, but I will if we
could share it on a website with other Voiceover users. The first
thing I would lable is the unlabled buttons in Java when you set it up
for the first time.
What do you all think?

Re: still cant scan

2009-10-10 Thread Anne Robertson

Hello Will,

I assume you're using Readiris? With VueScan, you don't need to be
able to access the Canon software, it handles all that for you. My
Canon Lide 700F works best with VueScan if I don't install any of the
Canon software.

Cheers,

Anne

Questions on how to navigate on the Iphone

2009-10-10 Thread Søren Jensen

Hi.

I'm really sorry to go of topic here, but I haven't received any mails
from the Iphone list for a very long time, and since people are asking
Iphone questions on this list, I hope it's okay to ask here...

I think I've heard all Iphone/ipod touch podcasts which has been made,
but I still have some questions which doesn't seems to have ben
answred. I might have missed something.
Well, here are my questions:

1: What is the difference between the drack gesture and the flicking
gesture? I know how the flicking gesture works. I've tried it in the
gestures practise on a Iphone last week. I'm asking because I don't
wanna drack icons around on the screen by accident. So how would I
know when I'm just using the flicking gesture and when I'm dracking an
icon?

2: How do I navigate in a listbox? For example if I wanna go through a
list of mails in the mail application, how do I go through this list?
Do I have to find the top of the list with my finger, then lift my
finger from the screen, move it down a bit and then touch again to
select the next mail in the list? Or can I just flick to the right? I
assume all items like my mailboxes, buttons etc will be read if I
flick to the right, so that's the reason for I'm asking on how to
navigate in listboxes.

3: If I don't know where the icons and other items are physically
placed on the screen, will the flicking gesture find all kind of
items? Or do I have to search for items on the screen to make sure
I've read all the information on the screen?

I haven't got my Iphone yet, but I might get it next week.

Re: A website where we could upload labels?

2009-10-10 Thread Søren Jensen

Yeah. I really hope so. The great thing about importing and exporting
things is that if you're going to import any labels, it will just add
the labels you don't have already which means your old labels won't be
deleted. It's a kind of syncronizing. That's what the manual says.

Time stretching in dj3?

Hi all,
How the heck do I time stretch, increase or decrease the tempo of a

get the pitch adjusted as well, which is what I don't want.

Time stretching in dj3?

2009-10-10 Thread Jess Smith

Hi all,
How the heck do I time stretch, increase or decrease the tempo of a
song without altering pitch in dj3? I tried holding the control key
while pressing 3, as the keyboard shortcut said to do, but I always
get the pitch adjusted as well, which is what I don't want.
Thanks for any help.

Jes

Re: iPhone like KNFB?

The camera on the iPhone is not powerful enough to do O/CR.

  Subject: iPhone like KNFB?

  Hello,

What apps could be added to an iPhone at this point to provide similar
functionality to a KNFB phone? The key featuresthat could help are:

  * OCR of documents, signs, product boxes, etc.
  * Talking pedestrian directions such as You are approaching the corner of
North Michigan Avenue and East Heron. When you get to the corner, Turn
right. and in a few more feet Continue to the next corner, St. Claire and E
Heron.
  * Color detection, providing reasonably good color matching or description.
  * Barcode reader with the ability to detect the barcode anywhere in the
picture frame, not just across a red line on the screen that makes use
difficult when you're only sure of the general location of the code. Ability to
pair with external BlueTooth barcode scanner as an alternative could be sweet.
  * Talking compass, something very similar to the built-in feature, but with
names of directions quickly spoken.

Here's the great part, some of the apps exist, but don't offer full
functionality.

  * A Voice Compass - Literally a talking compass with great accuracy. It even
cuts itself off if you turn it really fast, listen to the directions in an
audio blur if you so choose.
  * Around Me - Great for POI, but that's where the fun ends. Also, great for
getting phone numbers to places quickly.
  * Maps - Great for finding out where you are, and general directions.
However, no warnings about distance as you move.

I've found apps that offer functionality beyond the typical blindness
offerings that make life just sweet. For me, local apps can be fantastic:

  * CTA Tracker - Easily the most accessible CTA tracking app. If you live in
Chicago, this app provides complete details of busses at your local bus stops.
Find a bus, wait for it to pull up and announce itself, then track your way to
your destination with time estimates. Simply awesome for commuting. If you
leave the VO cursor on the next stop in the list, and turn Auto Lock off, VO
will announce the stop the bus is approaching once a minute. Turn on your iPod,
and let VO be the Dj telling you where you're at as you travel without having
to keep one ear open for the bus PA system.
  * Chipotle - Order some yummy food while you're on your way home. You can put
together your order, choose toppings, sides, and a drink. You can then place a
note on the order to let the great staff know you're blind, and to look out for
ya when you get there. It has been a really amazing experience using this app.
My reason, sometimes the restaurant is so loud that the staff start simply
pointing at the toppings and looking for feedback from the customer. When you
try and explain that you're blind, they don't speak up enough, or it really
throws them off and they start missing toppings. Using this app, you get
exactly what you wanted without the confusion of the Chipotle assembly line.
Even better, your credit card never comes out of your wallet.

I've got many other apps, but these are some that I've used in the last few
days. They provide me with tools that enrich my life. There are others out
there I know I'm missing, as the app store is the hottest most crowded
marketplace for software I've ever seen. If anyone else has ideas for apps that
make the iPhone specifically a brilliant tool for a blind user, please let us
all know. Beyond the Twitter and Facebook apps we all love, I'm looking for
apps that help enhance real life activities happening in the real world.

  Thanks,
  Ryan Dour

 Well, here are my questions:

1: What is the difference between the drack gesture and the flicking

2: How do I navigate in a listbox? For example if I wanna go

 list?
Do I have to find the top of the list with my finger, then lift my
finger from the screen, move it down a bit and then touch again to
select the next mail in the list? Or can I just flick to the
 right? I
assume all items like my mailboxes, buttons etc will be read if I
flick to the right, so that's the reason for I'm asking on how to
 navigate in listboxes.

3: If I don't know where the icons and other items are physically
placed on the screen, will the flicking gesture find all kind of
items? Or do I have to search for items on the screen to make sure
I've read all the information on the screen?

I haven't got my Iphone yet, but I might get it next week.

Re: adding a label on radio/button/list/etc

2009-10-10 Thread Nicolai Svendsen

Hi,

Yes, that is indeed correct. Here are the steps:

1) Go to the VoiceOver Utility (VO-F8), and hit Command-Shift-E for
Export.
2) Enter a file name for the file you want to save, obviously keeping
the file format intact.
3) Choose where you would like to save it. Any folder or drive seems
to be ok.
4) Go to the Export popup, and choose the preferences you would like
to export then proceed.

To import specific preferences, going to the file you saved and
hitting Command-O seems to do the trick. When the file opens, you will
be told what VoiceOver will import. Simply hit OK, and it should be
done. You can also do this by entering the VoiceOver Utility and
hitting Command-Shift-I for Import.

Happy Exporting!

Regards,
Nic

Navigating the iPhone and joining the Viphone list [was Re: Questions on how to navigate on the Iphone]

2009-10-10 Thread Esther

Hi Søren,

You wrote:

myself, but I might have ben unsubscribed for some reason.
What's the address to the list and how do I subscribe to it again?

At one point I think you could simply send a message to subscribe, but
this got changed and you now have to go to the Viphone web page and
request an invitation according to an earlier post from Cara:

begin quote

Actually anyone whom would like to sub to the list will need to
request an invite from the list's main page at:

http://groups.google.com/group/VIPhone

This is done so that potential new members can be screened to avoid
spam issues.

end quote

You can also go to the web page and read the posts without joining.
Unfortunately, the viphone list isn't set up to be archived at the
Mail Archive site, which provides an easier reading and searching
interface.

I'll try to answer your questions. (Responses follow excerpted
queries). I have an iPod Touch, but the gestures used are the same as
for the iPhone.

1: What is the difference between the drack gesture and the flicking
gesture? I know how the flicking gesture works. I've tried it in the
gestures practise on a Iphone last week. I'm asking because I don't
wanna drack icons around on the screen by accident. So how would I
know when I'm just using the flicking gesture and when I'm dracking
 an
 icon?
Flicking is a very quick gesture where your finger is only in brief
contact with the screen. It's actually difficult to drag icons around
the screen by accident because you first need to execute a pass-
through gesture (double-tap and hold) before you can drag the icon and
also because VoiceOver will announce moving icon -- where the name
of the actual icon gets announced, like moving Mail or moving
Maps. If you actually do move the icon VoiceOver will tell you the
row and column you're in, and until you lift your finger from the
screen the position doesn't get changed. If you get confused, or want
to stop, just move your finger to drag the icon back to where you
started, lift your finger from the screen, and click the home key to
get out of the mode in which icons can be moved. (This will also take
you back to the home screen in case you were moving icons on another
page of applications.)

The OS 3.1 update added a gesture practice area under Settings
General Accessibility VoiceOver where if you double tap the
Practice VoiceOver Gestures button you'll be taken to a screen where
VoiceOver announces the gestures you've used and their function --
kind of like a gesture-based keyboard practice mode. If you flick, you
might hear flick right, move to next item; or if you issue the pass-
through gesture, you'd hear double-tap and hold, drags the item.
(The only thing is, you won't hear the small burbly noise that is
played when you correctly perform a pass-through gesture of double-tap
and hold.)

2: How do I navigate in a listbox? For example if I wanna go
 through a
list of mails in the mail application, how do I go through this

When reading mail in your Inbox you can use buttons for previous mail
and next mail to go through your messages. (What's a bit odd is that
the latest message is at the top of the list, so if you start further
down the list at your first unread message you end up tapping the
previous message button to move through mail, and I haven't found a
way to change sort order.) If you start from a listbox you can
navigate either by selecting individual items by touch or by using
gestures to move through items or pages. For example, you can do a
two-finger upward flick to read all on the page, and you will hear
not only the buttons at the top of the page, but also the list of mail
with sender, time, and subject. This will read through the list
including scrolling, and you can stop with a two-finger tap. You
could also touch the center of the screen (probably close to where you
stopped the list reading) and move your finger up or down and have the
entries read to you, then double-tap on a specific message that you
want to open for reading. Or, if your touch had brought focus to a
specific message in the list, you could flick right to move focus to
the next item in the list. I find that I'm more likely to simply move
my finger up and the down in contact with the screen for lists than to
flick, since the announcements and focus just change with the position
of my finger. The way that I open list selections also differs
according

navigate either by selecting individual items by touch or by using

Changing Instruments in Garage Band

2009-10-10 Thread Kelly Ford

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could give me a pointer on changing
instruments in Garage Band? I am using Snow Leopard and the software
instrument option. I am able to select the different checkboxes for
instrument types and then interact with a table that lists items
within a category.

But no matter what I seem to have selected, all I get used when I use
the keyboard is a basic piano sound.

I've downloaded an update that says it has all the updated instruments
and loops.

Also, how do you read the keyboard shortcuts and help in this app?
They don't seem to read for me with VO.

I've read through some tutorials and such and am generally able to get
around the app.

Kelly
