Re: Alarms on The Ipod Touch

2010-06-24 Thread Ben King
Dear Courtney,
If you set an alarm on your iPod touch, and if you turn it off then in the
morning the alarm will not go off. So it is always best to leave it set to on.
At least this is how I work with mine.

It's called the stream from Jabra. Speech does not cut out at all. I was

 Hi Cody,

SUre thing. I'm new to Amadeus and the Mac so you're dealing with a real
beginner here as far as that goes. To mark selections do the following
first, it will help trust me. Press VO F5 then press command VO F5 and
finally shift VO space. This will place the VoiceOver cursor and mouse
cursor in the same place. For some reason unknown to me, the cursor loses
focus in Amadeus. Without this being done first, marking, deleting,
rewinding and fastforwarding are virtually impossible.
Also before I forget to tell you, the rewind and fastforward functions
have been changed. Rewind is command option left arrow and fastforward is
command option right arrow. To increase in pitch is command option up
arrow, to decrease is command option down arrow.

To mark selections you can either hit command shift M or my favorite way
learned from Erik Caron on Blind Cool Tech is just to hit P as in Paul. To
fade in or out I go through this in my podcast on Amadeus, but I'll tell
you just mark the points you want the fade to start and end. Then hit
option left arrow to place yourself at the starting point of your fade and
go to the fade submenu within the effects menu. Oh, if you want a gradual
fade out, go in to settings under fade and set it to quadratic and the
time for 4.3 seconds. I hope this helps.

Have a great day and I'd love to hear your podcast.

some pretty good stuff to say about it. I really can't sum it all up here, but
lets just say that the program rocks from just sitting here in my studio
playing with it.

Re: amadeus question real quick

2010-06-24 Thread Chris Snyder
Hi,
In order to copy between the two markers, you go to your first marker and hit
command-right arrow with quicknav off. This will select the stuff between the
two markers. You could also start at the final marker and hit command-left
arrow. Then you can do whatever you wish with that audio.
Hope that helps.

Friendly,
Chris

I need to mark selections in an audio file, I need to fade out, fade in,

Ok I can appreciate why this might be confusing. For myself when I was
sighted a few months ago I always preferred tabs as it visually keeps
the desktop tidy and keeps all your safari windows in one place. Plus
if I was on several different websites such as Amazon or Play i could
quickly compare prices between the two sites instead of having to keep
 moving open windows around.

As a blind user now I guess it just comes down to what you are used to
and comfortable with With tabs I can quickly cycle through them with
Control + TAB. But equally so with open windows you can VO+F2 and then
select the window from the list.

So there is no right or wrong way, I would just say for a sighted person
I think most people would prefer tabs.

 Does this answer your question?

The latter post gives my quick intro to the way iTunes is organized.
The first post was a way to quickly answer someone who wanted to get a

Note that these were not aimed at answering someone with a large,
extensive music collection in iTunes, and I also don't remind him to

he's read earlier list posts from the previous days about setting up

copying between markers in Amadeus

2010-06-24 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi everyone,

I just figured out the answer to a question Cody had asked a while back. I
think I know how to copy audio between markers in Amadeus. You mark the start
and end points of your audio. Then you press option left arrow to go to the
starting point. Press command right arrow to extend to next marker and hit
command C. You have now copied what is between the two markers. Have a great
day!

Transferring Music From Mac To Windows Via iTunes

2010-06-24 Thread Jane
Is it possible to transfer music using the iTunes library without having
to drag and drop on the Windows side of things? I had hoped there would
be an Import button, but I don't see one.

Re: Episode: Mark Visits The House Of Usher With An Apple In His Hand

2010-06-24 Thread Kimberly thurman
Mark, I felt completely the same as I downloaded books on my iPod Touch from
the iBooks Store for the first time. We are also fellow Mobile Speak users
going back a couple of years. That's not all though. I just realized that you
are probably the Mark Taylor that was a Kentucky School for the Blind student
way back when. I'll bet you listened to the House of Usher with dear old Ms.
Haynes.

Sounds as though you've certainly been around since your days at KSB. Nice
podcast. I enjoyed it very much, and concur with your sentiments exactly! :)

my new mac

2010-06-24 Thread Josh

Hi

I am the same Josh Kennedy that did the loadstone podcast a-while back
on blind cool tech. One of the reasons I'm excited about getting the new
macbook pro is so I can use the pipe organ voice!
By the way are there any programs for mac, like text aloud or DSpeech
for windows that will use the mac voices to turn text files and other
files into mp3s?

RE: my mac comes in 5 days yay!

2010-06-24 Thread Cameron
Hi. ah, very good. Hopefully more state agencies etc will finally start
seeing the light. Or, in this case, the lit up Apple. (Just in case no one
mentions, there is an Apple on your laptop that lights up when it's
running.)

I have a mbp and the build quality and performance are fantastic.

Enjoy your Mac!

Cameron.

Subject: my mac comes in 5 days yay!

Hi

Well guess what, my mac will be here in five days! The technical person
that voc rehab contracts with based on my needs for school, and I aalso
have a sneaky suspician she also recommended the mac because I have been
asking for a year or so now for voc rehab to get me a mac for a job I
turned down a few months ago, then again asked for a mac for school so I
think also because I've been asking and asking for it.
Anyway it will be here in five days. And she said voc rehab or my
counselor said they normally don't recommend macs. they usually get
people dell computers with jaws on them.
I'm getting a 13 inch macbook pro . it has a 250gb hard drive with
windows7 home installed with bootcamp. 2.4ghz dual core processor, 4gigs
of ram. On the windows side I'll use nvda and system access. She called
me or rather I got in touch with her. she said she was playing with the
mac, with snnow leopard a bit. she said to me she didn't realise
voiceover had all these commands so blind people could use it! I think
depending on how I like my mac then she said depending on the feedback
I give her, she will then recommend voc rehab get macs for mostof their
blind clients in the future. so according to her I am the first blind
person in my state to get a macbook pro or a mac at all!
I can't wait to get my new mac!

Josh

Hi,
I really enjoyed the podcast. But I can't find the Ibook Store, I have Ios4.
But it's not on the list of apps. If I find it, I think I'll download that book.

Thanks a million for the help, although that kind of wont' work regarding
tyhose commands because everytime I open amadeus, it wants to install the
update 1.5.1 but for some reason everytime I want it to install it juts
closes and it never installs so I'm still running 1.4.4. if I could get
this thing to install I'd be very happy. I wonder where it downlaods the
update to? anyone have any ideas? this way I could just use the downloaded
update to install rather than download the entire copy again.

Also I think one of your issues have the keyboard focus jump is because if
you are using the quick nav feature in voiceover, that tends to drag the
mouse and keyboard focus all over the place by default unless you've
changed it. So let me know how I can fix this so that I can get recording!

Interesting Glitch with Focus 40 Blue

2010-06-24 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, folk,

In case anyone has an issue with this, I thought I'd tell you about my little
adventure.

After attempting many times to pair the Focus 40 Blue, I decided to try setting
up the device with the standard Bluetooth utility. Lo and behold, there were
signs of progress. I then used the Braille display utility to add the display,
and it worked? So in case you have trouble pairing this display, try this
method.

Hi Cody,

I am not sure how to copy between the two markers. Maybe getting to where you

Hi Cody,

Hmm, I wonder if you could just install the update without downloading the
entire program again. I don't use quick nav in voiceover, smile. I hadn't
thought of that though. THat it would jump the focus around. Hmm, I wish I
could be of more help.

Re: amadeus question real quick

2010-06-24 Thread Cody Hurst
Hi Alison!

Thanks a million for the help, although that kind of wont' work regarding
tyhose commands because everytime I open amadeus, it wants to install the
update 1.5.1 but for some reason everytime I want it to install it juts closes
and it never installs so I'm still running 1.4.4. if I could get this thing to
install I'd be very happy. I wonder where it downlaods the update to? anyone
have any ideas? this way I could just use the downloaded update to install
rather than download the entire copy again.

Also I think one of your issues have the keyboard focus jump is because if you
are using the quick nav feature in voiceover, that tends to drag the mouse and
keyboard focus all over the place by default unless you've changed it. So let
me know how I can fix this so that I can get recording!

Re: amadeus question real quick

2010-06-24 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi Cody,

SUre thing. I'm new to Amadeus and the Mac so you're dealing with a real
beginner here as far as that goes. To mark selections do the following first,
it will help trust me. Press VO F5 then press command VO F5 and finally shift
VO space. This will place the VoiceOver cursor and mouse cursor in the same
place. For some reason unknown to me, the cursor loses focus in Amadeus.
Without this being done first, marking, deleting, rewinding and fastforwarding
are virtually impossible.
Also before I forget to tell you, the rewind and fastforward functions have
been changed. Rewind is command option left arrow and fastforward is command
option right arrow. To increase in pitch is command option up arrow, to
decrease is command option down arrow.

To mark selections you can either hit command shift M or my favorite way
learned from Erik Caron on Blind Cool Tech is just to hit P as in Paul. To fade
in or out I go through this in my podcast on Amadeus, but I'll tell you just
mark the points you want the fade to start and end. Then hit option left arrow
to place yourself at the starting point of your fade and go to the fade submenu
within the effects menu. Oh, if you want a gradual fade out, go in to settings
under fade and set it to quadratic and the time for 4.3 seconds. I hope this
helps.

Have a great day and I'd love to hear your podcast.

Congratulations on your new mac and on getting a rehab agency to purchase it
for you!
I hope that more agencies are beginning to realize how innovative Apple is, and
that they will start offering students the option of getting macs. After all,
a sighted student has the option to purchase any computer they like, so why
don't the same rules apply?

amadeus question real quick

2010-06-24 Thread Cody Hurst
Hi all you guys,

I'm really sorry for the repetitive questions but I'm a very slow learner and
I'm actually fairly new to amadeus and haven't gotten a chance to play with it.

I'm going to be making a podcast today but in order to do so I need to know
just a few things I'm sure were mentioned before.

I need to mark selections in an audio file, I need to fade out, fade in, and do
general editing. so if someone could please outline these keyboard commands to
me I'd be greatly appreciative. the scroll area kind of throws me off and the
arrow keys don't really seem to do what I want when I need them to. So if
someone could let me know of these commands i'd be greatly appreciative.

Congrats. I know you will love it. I may or may not be trading my friend my
macbook for a macbook pro 13 inch. I'm happy with it but the battery could be
replaced I think and the white plastic isn't the greatest as it gets all oily
and while I an't see it, I can still feel the slimy slick spots so the macbook
pro was a great idea, although probably not necessary, cosmetically it might
look better ont he eyes so you wont' be dealing with the skin oil

Anyway it will be here in five days. And she said voc rehab or my

people dell computers with jaws on them.
I'm getting a 13 inch macbook pro . it has a 250gb hard drive with
windows7 home installed with bootcamp. 2.4ghz dual core processor, 4gigs

voiceover had all these commands so blind people could use it! I think
depending on how I like my mac then she said depending on the feedback
I give her, she will then recommend voc rehab get macs for mostof their
blind clients in the future. so according to her I am the first blind
person in my state to get a macbook pro or a mac at all!

I can't wait to get my new mac!

RE: Answering a few questions about Daisy Bookworm for iPhone

2010-06-24 Thread Erik Heil
Hello list. The idea of managing the daisy book filesystem via ftp is great.
However I believed the functions need to be integrated into ibooks. As far as
playing back encrypted content their are tools to help with this process.
Personally it would be easier to read all my content on an ipad. If one could
download and acquire daisy bos that woild be wonderful.k

Sounds great and at such a low price too (don't think I will be buying a victor
stream now). tHIS ftp thing, is there no way you could add support for iDisk
for those of us who have it? That might be much easier then establishing a FTP
connection.

Seems like this year might be the start of many good accessible apps for the
iPhone

Is there anything on the iPhone that reads MS Word documents via VoiceOver?

Re: Answering a few questions about Daisy Bookworm for iPhone

2010-06-24 Thread Chris Moore
Sounds great and at such a low price too (don't think I will be buying a victor
stream now). tHIS ftp thing, is there no way you could add support for iDisk
for those of us who have it? That might be much easier then establishing a FTP
connection.

Seems like this year might be the start of many good accessible apps for the
iPhone

Is there anything on the iPhone that reads MS Word documents via VoiceOver?

Answering a few questions about Daisy Bookworm for iPhone

2010-06-24 Thread Greg Kearney
I'll try and answer a few questions that have come up about Daisy Bookworm for
iPhone

Loading Books
Loading books is done via an FTP connection between your computer and the
iPhone Daisy Bookworm has a built in FTP server which you connect to and then
upload the book's directory to the phone using any FTP client on any computer.
Needless to say you need a wireless network to connect the phone to. You do not
need your own FTP server, Daisy Bookworm has a built in FTP server.

Book compatibility
Daisy Bookworm for iPhone will read any audio only and full text full audio
unencrypted DAISY book. This includes books from Association for the Blind of
Western Australia, Vision Australia, RNZFB, CNIB, RNIB, TPB and most other
world talking book libraries. It will not read NLS encrypted books. We have
asked the NLS about how to have these devices authorised but have yet to
receive any reply. We are working on RFB&D playback and text only DAISY
playback (Bookshare) in the next release.

Accessibility
Daisy Bookworm for iPhone is fully accessible with VoiceOver screen reader.

iPad
Daisy Bookworm is compatible with the Apple iPad.

Where do you get Daisy Bookworm
Daisy Bookworm will be available this summer from the iTunes App Store. It will
cost less than $5 when released.

Is this Voice of Daisy
No. Voice of Daisy or VOD is a different program from a different developer in
Japan.

Hope this clears things up.

Re: New window versus new tab

2010-06-24 Thread Chris Moore
Presuming you already have some tabs open, press VO + Up to stop interacting
with HTML, then move left and right to the tab you desire and then VO + space
to perform a mouse click then VO + Down to interact with HTML

I guess you can now see why some users prefer to use windows instead of tabs,
not sure if there is a key stroke like VO+F2 to enable users to quickly
navigate tabs in their preferred order instead of using control + TAB which
lets you cycle through in a linear format.
