interacting with items using the focus 40 blue

2011-10-14 Thread Priscilla Garces
Hey all,
I would like to know the comands for interacting with voice over on the focus
40 blue.
I got the display yesterday, it was great. i never immagined it interacting
with voice over like a breeze once i pluged in the USB.
Anyway. how do i interact with tables with the braille display without using my
computer keyboard?
Does anyone happen to take the braille display with them in addition to the
laptop? I'm planning to do that, the only problem, it doesn't fit inside my
current messenger bag without the need of a backpack.
it's pretty slim but is horizontally long. other than that the display makes
reading easier and especially that the braille is smoother like paper. it sure
was a bit more than what i thought i'd expect. I at most expected at least a 32
cell display, but i guess the focus 40 blue was the cheaper option verses the
braille note.

thank you.

my issues with iCloud.

2011-10-14 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Dear All.

I wanted to write to both lists as I know many of us had been having trouble
with Migrating from Mobile Me.

I wish to thank Mark Taylor who helped me over Skype to resolve my issues as I
was ready to call Apple.

For those who may be still having issues, I wanted to describe the steps just
in case there were others who could not transition.

1. Mark with my help was able to go to Mobile Me and after taking all the
necessary details from me, was able to sign in and as people will know there
were two check boxes on safari which were difficult to get to.

2. The checkbox which I could not check using jaws (as there are graphics) as
Mark had sighted help when he did his), the one which stated that all devices
had to have the latest IOS 5, had to be checked and you had to apply, this was
a tricky box, had to be checked before the whole process would work, then
everything went smoothly.

3. In two minutes, everything was updated.

Now everything is updated and backed up.

I now have the following questions.

How do I put my documents and data on there?

When my subscription runs out, will I have the option to upgrade although I am
on the highest plan and I wish to keep it that way.

I hope all of you can upgrade to I Cloud soon. Again I thank Mark with his
help with this.

Re: Selecting from beginning or end?

2011-10-14 Thread Teresa Cochran
Thanks for clarifying that, Esther. I just did a bit of experimenting, and
found out that you can hold down the up- or down-arrow keys while also holding
down shift and command until VO tells you how many messages are selected, or
until the bell chimes for the top or the bottom of the list. I have cursor wrap
set to "off", so I'm not sure of the behavior if you have wrap set to the "on"
position.

Re: Selecting from beginning or end?

2011-10-14 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Traci,

I haven't tried this in a message list yet, but in a text document, you can use
command-shift-up-arrow to select to beginning and command-shift-down-arrow to
select from the cursor to the end.

Re: Selecting from beginning or end?

2011-10-14 Thread Esther
Hi Traci,

Shift-Command-Down Arrow and Shift-Command-Up Arrow will select from your
current position to the end or beginning of text, but this doesn't work in mail
messages. In Snow Leopard (but not in Lion, I think), you can use the Option
key in the Mail messages table. And Shift-Option-Up or Down arrow will select
all the entries from your present position to the top or bottom of the table.
The Option key functions for moving to the top or bottom of the mail messages
table didn't survive in Lion.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Hi all,

I know the commands for shift-down-arrow and shift-up-arrow, but are there

Re: Mac for college

2011-10-14 Thread Anne Robertson
The MacBook Air has two USB ports so you can use a USB Braille display with it.
You can also get a USB external DVD drive designed especially for the MBA.

It's also true that MS Office does not work with VoiceOver. However, Word,
Excel and PowerPoint documents can be opened with iWork09.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi Ray,

I have noticed this as well. Thought I was going crazy, but remembered I

all the messages contained in it. I hope this helps.

Re: iCloud contact on iPhone not showing up on mac

I think iCloud will finally push me over the edge to upgrade to osx
10.7. I was disappointed but not surprised that most of the iOS to OSX
iCloud stuff doesn't work at all unless you're on Lion.

I am starting to use iCloud and it looks really cool. I just have one
question. I have set up both my mac and iPhone to use iCloud. I just
looked for a contact that I put on my phone and it wasn't in my address book
on my mac. When I looked on iCloud.com it was there. Am I missing
something, a step somewhere or do I still have to sync with iTunes?

iCloud on a Mac

2011-10-14 Thread Neil Barnfather - TalkNav
Hi All,

I have a, or had a, Mobile Me account, I have now transferred this to iCloud.

Since Mobile Me still shows in my System Preferences area, and at that, shows
as connected and in sync, how am I supposed to utilise iCloud on my Mac?

I'm using oSX v10.7.2, but can find no iCloud settings anywhere.

I have it all working just dandy on my iPhone and iPad, but assume there should
be some sort of settings controls in the Mac itself...

Any assistance welcome...

cheers.

Neil

question. I have set up both my mac and iPhone to use iCloud. I just
looked for a contact that I put on my phone and it wasn't in my address book
on my mac. When I looked on iCloud.com it was there. Am I missing
something, a step somewhere or do I still have to sync with iTunes?

Re: Moveing over to iCloud, but can't get past mobileMe sign in page.

2011-10-14 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi again guys.
I promise to stop posting for a while, but I wanted to make the comment that I
think part of our problem is iTunes. It got real quiet and VoiceOver never said
everything it was doing. It got quiet so long that I pressed the power key on
my iPhone and my iPhone told me that more steps were needed. When I tried to
sign up for the iCloud on the iPhone, I got a server error and it wouldn't let
me. My phone finished syncing with iTunes. In fact, I took it off too soon and
got an error from iTunes, at which point I put it back on and it continued. I
didn't know it was not done because all my music and things were on the iPhone.

Gigi

Moveing over to iCloud, but can't get past mobileMe sign in page.

2011-10-14 Thread johns.kary
Hi guys,
possibly this has been asked, but to be honest I just don't have the time at
the moment to trawl through emails to see.
I'm trying to move over to iCloud, I get to the mobileMe sign in page, sign in
with my mobileMe details, get a page with all my contacts, and that's it.
How do I get to the next step? This thing is driving me mad!

Thanks for any help,

Hi Teresa.
I just looked with command comma. It goes to five lines back to none. The first
thing that comes up is viewing in classic mode. Then if you keep pressing tab
it goes the line count option. Now, this last time, VO just said none and did
not explain too much. I guess I better set VBO back to high verbosity because
it didn't tell me what I had just landed on.

Re: Mac for college

2011-10-14 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hello Louis.
I just recently went through a switch from Windows. I chose the MacBook Pro
because I needed USB ports. My braille display is not Bluetooth. If you're
using a braille display, that may be a factor. I looked the MacBookAir, but
that's why I didn't get it. I really wanted one because of the flash drive.
However, I couldn't spend about 3 grand on a Bluetooth braille display. The
other reason I thought about the Air is because they say it has combined the
Mac with some of the features of the iPhone. So, I'll have to wait on that
until I can replace my braille display some fine day.

I didn't get the Mac version of Office for the reason you mentioned and I was
told this was a true statement. I hate those ribbon things anyway that was put
on there.

I'll leave some of your other questions to people who are more experienced than
me.

Regards,
Gigi

Re: Mac for college

2011-10-14 Thread James Scholes
I just purchased a 13-inch MacBook Air with a 256GB SSD, 1.8GHz Intel Core i7
CPU and 4GB of RAM. It runs OS X Lion and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (via Bootcamp)
brilliantly. Don't let the slow processor speed put you off. Boot times,
especially from sleep, are extremely short (from a sleep state, I can bring
back up the Windows desktop in 2 seconds or less). My machine is also for
university usage, so this is a huge advantage.

Do be advised that the Air does not have an on-board optical drive or Ethernet
port, although USB alternatives are available from Apple and countless other
manufacturors and they should be portable enough to carry about in a laptop bag
or case.

Hi Louis,
The pro 13 inch highest model gives a very good experience, just like the air
does, from a daily user's perspective, and from what I understand in my
experiences compared to those of a nearby friend who has an air, they don't
differ very much in usability speed. The air has a solid state 64 or 128 gb
drive, and in a 13 inch you have a 500 gb normal hard drive. The air boots up
very quickly, compared to my 13 inch, and I think this is because of the solid
state drive, which is faster than a 5400 rpm normal hard disk in the 13 inch
pro. As I said, in real life experiences, they don't differ very much in speed.
The air has a slower processor than the 13 inch, but it all depends on what you
want to do with your machine.

If you want to do text editing, spread sheets and school stuff, mail, web etc,
then an air is lighter to carry and a very useful machine for that job. The 13
inch weighs more, has a slower hard drive, but on the other hand it does have a
cd dvd drive, which if I'm not mistaken, is not in the mac air. You might want
to go to an Apple store, look and feel both models, and get advice from the
people there. I got the 13 inch because I want to run windows on the mac, and
that eats up a lot of space very rapidly if you make snapshots from time to
time. If you don't want or need windows on your mac, or you are able to run it
from bootcamp, then an air will suffice.

Re: Mac for college

2011-10-14 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi Louis,
The pro 13 inch highest model gives a very good experience, just like the air
does, from a daily user's perspective, and from what I understand in my
experiences compared to those of a nearby friend who has an air, they don't
differ very much in usability speed.
