Re: Itunes 11 and sorting (NOT)

Hi,
I looked on Applevis but found no results. I am wondering if anyone recommends
an accessible Mac id3 tag editor other than itunes. That way tag info can be
edited before import. Seems like that info isn't available in the finder.

This isn't just with iTunes 11; the same thing has always happened in iTunes
when the id tags are not the kind that iTunes recognizes or are in some way
messed up. This is why I tend to use iTunes for purchased files and vlc for
other files by dragging my folders into the vlc media library. You can fix the
organization relatively easily by using cmd-i and entering the correct info but
if you have a lot of files like that, you may decide it's not worth it.

I think you'll have to edit the file tags. on any of the songs, press
command-I to bring up the information dialog. in the info tab you'll see
what the actual song title is - it might be different from the imported file
name. Take a look around in the summary and info tabs to see what's going
on.

Re: windows 64 bit and bootcamp.

2012-12-06 Thread Phil Halton

no problem, could you explain the process of doing a clean install of ML?

If I'm not mistaken, it would involve, booting into the recovery partition,
and from there I'm lost. I'd like to say reformat the drive, but wouldn't
that erase the recovery partition itself? Then once reformatted, reinstall
ML from the recovery partition options.

Walk me through it if you would.

RE: Itunes 11 and sorting (NOT)

2012-12-06 Thread Daniel Miller
Do you mean the files are labled like that? Or are the ID3 tags actually
correct with the track numbers. If they aren't, iTunes won't do jack with
that, and just put them in by name.

I imported an album of songs to my Music library. Despite the fact that the
songs are labeled, "01," "02," etc. sequentially, numerically, numbers
still meaning the same as they usually do. despite that, Itunes seems to put
them in "by name," and won't be talked out of it. I've tried VO Vertical Bar
(Shift Backslash), I've tried sorting by different criteria, but I still get
them in weird order. Anyone got an idea how to make Itunes remember what a
*NUMBER* means?

RE: iPod freezes, needs hard reset that kills vo

2012-12-06 Thread Daniel Miller
I've never had that happen, honestly. Nor have I had the reset wiping out VO
happen either. I honestly think Apple jumped the gun a bit on having iOS 6
support devices with the A4 chip, and should've stuck with A5-powered
devices or later. That's just my opinion, however.

Subject: iPod freezes, needs hard reset that kills vo

Hi all,
Ever since iOS6 hit my iPod, I have had it crash three times, usually while
unlocking it. The crash is so bad that I have to do a home/power reset. Of
course, thanks again to iOS6, that reset now wipes out vo and my triple
click home setting, so I have to use iTunes or a sighted person to get the
iPod talking again. Has anyone else had this happen? Any ideas on how to
avoid it? Thanks.

I search in the app store for the application called burn. I can't seem to find
the exact one you were talking about. Is it actually in the App Store or do I
need to find it on a website? Is it possible to send me a link or a specific
name for this program? I seen some called ISO burn, I am not sure if that's
the right one or not. All the ones I seem to find are a round five dollars.

Re: Iphone 4 vs 5

2012-12-06 Thread Alex Hall
Voiceover works very well, better in some ways than it does on the mac, in my
opinion. Nothing in the OS itself is inaccessible, and a great many third-party
apps are mostly to fully accessible as well. You'll want to look at
http://www.applevis.com to find app reviews from an accessibility perspective,
and Apple has a good intro video for using vo on the iPhone (it is on an iPhone
3GS, but the commands are all the same). I don't have that link, but google
should be able to dig it up for you. If you have any questions, you can ask on
here, or join the accessible-iOS list
(accessible-ios+subscr...@googlegroups.com) and ask there. That list is
dedicated to iOS devices and vo, instead of all things mac and vo.

 Hi all.
So, i followed Chris's instructions for installing windows under
 bootcamp. It worked wonderfully.
I have a question, does windows 7 or 8 not work under 64 bit?
I cant get it to work at all.
Any help would be appreciated, does anybody run windows 64 bit on

That is one method and the bootcamp assistant utility has instructions for
doing so. Personally, I put the iso image and the drivers on seperate DVD's
and installed that way. And, I think the method you want doesn't work on all
mac models. If it doesn't show up as an option in your BC assistant, then it
doesn't work on the Mac model you have. In which case, burn the image and
drivers to seperate disks and go that route.

Re: windows 64 bit and bootcamp.

2012-12-06 Thread Phil Halton
that doesn't sound right about the volume label. I think it should be
recognized as "bootcamp". On the Mac side, you should see the "bootcamp"
volume on your desktop along with your "MacintoshHD" volume. What do you see
there? How did you install windows7? did you do it blind? Maybe the
instructions you followed weren't quite right and missed a crucial step.

Bootcamp assistant is responsible for creating the "bootcamp" partition,
then Windows7 takes over and formats it and installs there. It should be
named "bootcamp" by the bootcamp assistant utility. If it isn't, that'd make
me wonder if something went wrong with the install.

I have both the PDF detailing the install process, and a website that tells
how to step-by-step install windows7, giving the various installation
screens and the information you need to fill in on each. I had a sighted
person with some computer savvey help me through the install process - it
was worth it. Face it, some things we just can't do so good without sight.

the website with step-by-step install instructions for windows7 is:
www.blackviper.com/os-install-guides/windows-7-install-guide/

The PDF file can be had from within the bootcamp assistant utility.

Hi Phil.
I did the exact same thing but when i run the setup file, it says that
bootcamp has encountered an error and cant continue.
The only option is a finish button. One thing i have noticed is that the
bootcamp partition that is made is always just an unlabeled volume.

Could this be the reason?
Thanks.

Question about Mudder

2012-12-06 Thread Shannon Curry
Hi everyone,
Recently, on some suggestions from friends, I downloaded Mudder, which I was
told was the only really good Mud client for the Mac. I'm new to mudding, and I
wanted to see if it was something I'd like, but I have a weird problem.

It seems that there's always a bit of a delay in trying to process everything
when the mud gets kind of spammy. I know the solution normally would be to
simply go to the end of the text window and scroll up, but often the client
won't let me. I know there's stuff there, but Voiceover doesn't always read it.
However,I am able to copy and paste the text window into a word document.

So, needless to say, this has made me the slowest player ever and has made me
really reluctant to try again. Is there a setting I can change on mudder that
will make it so VO will read everything? It does seem that sometimes it will
read the text window when it's not receiving any data, but if a bunch of stuff
comes onto my screen, then every time I use command-down arrow to get to the
end of the window, it just says nothing.

I'm sure there's just one setting I have to change, and I'm hoping someone here
will have something I can try. Unfortunately, the help documentation is
basically not that helpful.

I'm running Mountain Lion and the latest version of the client, if that helps.

Shannon

Re: Iphone 4 vs 5

2012-12-06 Thread Alex Hall
Well, if you want a free one (with contract), then the 4 will do it. If you can
swing the $200, though, here's what you get:
•4G support, if your carrier has 4G coverage in your area
•a much, much better processor, ram, and other internals that make the device
much snappier and able to support more applications (for instance, my iPod
can't run Read2Go without running out of memory, but the 4s and 5 can run it no
problem)
•a larger screen, meaning you can have more apps on your home screen and more
room for gestures and content
•Siri (need I say more?)
•a better camera, though I have heard reports that the 4s does as good a job
with ocr and bar code reading as the 5, but both are better than the 4
•the new Lightning connector, which you can plug cords into both ways and which
is smaller than the old one
•better-sounding speaker and better-quality microphones
•construction that is mostly aluminum on the back instead of glass, plus a much
tougher screen and camera lens
•future-proofing: the 3gs is no longer supported by iOS updates, so the 4 will
be next. That is, I'm betting iOS7 will be out for the iPhone4, but no updates
after that. The iPhone5 should support updates for at least two more years,
instead of not even one.

I have a question, about the messages application? How do I set it to my iCloud

Did anyone have any good suggestions on how to make this so that the phone, and

because what is happening now is that I get a message on my phone that I have

Re: updated windows issue with bootcamp and macbook pro 2012

2012-12-06 Thread Mike Arrigo
I doubt if vmware would be causing the problem. Boot camp creates a
separate partition, and that's what windows uses. A vm ware virtual
machine is just a file in the mac partition. Honestly though, if you
have VM ware fusion, there's really no reason to even mess with boot
camp. Fusion will automate the install of windows for you and you don't
have to reboot to switch operating systems. Also, virtual machines are
much easier to back up. The only disadvantage of using a virtual
machine is that it's slightly slower, but in most cases this isn't even
noticed.

Original message:

Hi Mike.
I've tried that as well, i honestly just thought of that.

I have a copy of windows 7 32 and 64 bit opporating systems.
The weirdest part is when i'm finished installing windows and it comes
to installing the bootcamp driver disk, i got to setup and the
installer says it can not continue.
I remember with my old laptop from 2011, i could install bootcamps
drivers just fine.
Does anybody have any further ideas? i'm fairly sure that it isn't a
windows disk issue.

Also, when i look at the windows partition it isn't labeled boot camp.
Does this cause any problems?
I realize i can use vmware fusion but i need the extra ram and
processing power for programs for development.

THank you and i'm so sorry for the long email.

Depending on what you're doing though, there may not be any advantage

example there are 2 program files folders.

Hi all.
So, i followed Chris's instructions for installing windows under
bootcamp. It worked wonderfully.

I have a question, does windows 7 or 8 not work under 64 bit?
I cant get it to work at all.
Any help would be appreciated, does anybody run windows 64 bit on the list.

Re: Toast titanium

2012-12-06 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hi there.
I know exactly what are you looking for because I am in the same position
myself.
So, as you have discovered already, toast is intirely inaccessible.
Unfortunately, there is not a similar or even close alternative so far.
You can use burn, which is very accessible, but it does not have as many
features.
Since I switched from windows almost 3 years ago, I have been looking for a
good cd dvd recording software with no success. In windows, I was using Nero
and I was happy with it.
Now, before anyone comes lecturing us about features and recording software, I
would like to be able to write a cd or dvd to multiple recorders at the same
time, I wish to create an image from data folders, mp3 files or audio cds etc.
I would also like to make multiple copies from an image or folder.

So the conclusion. Use burn it is free. It is accessible. There is another one
in the app store called disk blaze. It is ok, but has some unlabled buttons.
If anyone else has a suggestion for a program like this, please chime in. It
will be appreciated much.

Nektarios.

Gigi, you just create a profile and start your on-line return. It takes you
through the entire process. Tax Act refers to it as the Interview. I haven't
checked the site out for 2012.

You can file electronically and don't need to submit any paper documents at

Hi guys.

I know it's a bit early on this, but I have a Schedule C to file again this
year, which means it takes time etc. to do one. Here's my question for you
guys. Someone on this list said that they had used taxact.com
for their taxes.I went to the web site, and it seemed
to work fine with Safari. However, I didn't try any of the forms that they
listed. If you use this web site, does anyone know if you get trapped in PDF
form files or can you use Safari for the whole thing? Also, can you input
information, save it out, and then finish the process later? If you can, can
you edit information if you fine you put it in wrong information?

I'm asking you guys because I don't want to start the process, only to fine
myself needing to deal with some inaccessible pdf file. It's frustrating as
all get out for my husband and I to work together on this. It's easier if I
can give him the finished thing to sign.

Gigi

2012-12-06 Thread Chris Bruinenberg
Hi Mike.
I've tried that as well, i honestly just thought of that.
Could vmware be screwing this up at all?
I never had issues with my 2011 macbook pro like this.
Sorry for flooding the list.

Re: updated windows issue with bootcamp and macbook pro 2012

2012-12-06 Thread Mike Arrigo
One thing you might try if you have speech, if not, connect a USB head
set if you have one and use narrator, windows has built in drivers for
that. Turn off the user account control feature, I've seen that cause
more weird issues than I can count.

I remember with my old laptop from 2011, i could install bootcamps

THanks.
This is very weird.
I seam to be the only one with the issues.
I can give the exact error it gives me.
It says, bootcamp encountered errors before it could install.
Has anybody seen this before?

I actually used the drivers from the OSX dvd and they work fine.

There was an issue with the bootcamp drivers a year or two ago where
you would get an error but that was a few versions back I believe.

Depending on which mac you have, 64 bit windows should work. This may
require that the mac use 64 bit firmware, which most recent ones do.
Depending on what you're doing though, there may not be any advantage

RE: Tax web sites

2012-12-06 Thread Paul Hunt
Hello Gigi. I have ben using Tax Act for several years. There are two ways
to prepare a tax return. One way is for people who want to get straight to
the forms. I didn't find this approach accessible. However, Taxact also
takes you through a Question and Answer process. This process is accessible
and editable. Yes, you can start your return, sign out and continue later.
You can file electronically and don't need to submit any paper documents at
all. Noone physically has to sign anything, it's all done through electronic
PINS. You never touch the forms. However, you can print your return and you
get the completed forms on paper and in .pdf documents. I haven't tried the
Schedule C yet but I don't expect any issues. Depending on the complexity of
your return, you may have to get the paid version. I'll cross that bridge
when I file my return.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Gigi

That's interesting. My windows 7 came with two different discs: one for
32-bit and one for 64-bit.

Maybe the instructions didn't account for the 32 vs 64 bit thing. I know
that the DVD has both versions on it and you have to choose one you want to
install - at least I think so.

Hi all.
So, i followed Chris's instructions for installing windows under bootcamp.
It worked wonderfully.
I have a question, does windows 7 or 8 not work under 64 bit?
I cant get it to work at all.
Any help would be appreciated, does anybody run windows 64 bit on the list.

Tax web sites

2012-12-06 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys.
I know it's a bit early on this, but I have a Schedule C to file again this
year, which means it takes time etc. to do one. Here's my question for you
guys. Someone on this list said that they had used taxact.com for their taxes.I
went to the web site, and it seemed to work fine with Safari. However, I didn't
try any of the forms that they listed. If you use this web site, does anyone
know if you get trapped in PDF form files or can you use Safari for the whole
thing? Also, can you input information, save it out, and then finish the
process later? If you can, can you edit information if you fine you put it in
wrong information?

I'm asking you guys because I don't want to start the process, only to fine
myself needing to deal with some inaccessible pdf file. It's frustrating as all
get out for my husband and I to work together on this. It's easier if I can
give him the finished thing to sign.

Regards,
Gigi

RE: SHipment Number Detected

2012-12-06 Thread Daniel Miller
Ah, this makes sense now. Lol. Usually, shipment tracking numbers are sent
as links. I'll have to play around with this when I order something next,
which may be later today just for grins.

It it says url detected you do vo-space on it. I'm not sure if i've ever jst
had it say "shipment number detected" but if it's without a link I would
think it would actually be unable to access any information.

But, when you VO-M context menu, the "track item," option just seems to
disappear without doing anything. I even checked in Dashboard and it's not
there.

Playing videos on iPhone

2012-12-06 Thread David Hole
Hi folks.

I have a kind of weird issue here...
When I play videos on my iPhone using headphones, the sound is very
weird, it sounds like it has some kind of compressor on it.
I've tried the following to find the issue:
- Played other kind of media (music, spotify, youtube, etc) on the phone: Worked
- Played the same video on the phone from my Mac via home sharing (or
what it was called): Same issue
- Played the video directly on my Mac, with the same headphones: Worked
So until now, my conclusion is that the video works, but there must be
some settings on the phone that does that.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
- David

Toast titanium

2012-12-06 Thread Matt Gilman
Hello everyone,
I had a question about the program called Toast titanium. I used to use this
program perfectly fine when I use my older Power Mac. I recently got an Intel
MacBook Pro and downloaded the newer version for that computer and voiceover
does not read any parts of the program anymore.

The program, toast titanium. This is used for burning DVDs, audio or even
Photos to a disk. It allows you to create a disc from any format of video or
audio. I used to use it a lot in the past and I've started trying to use it
again. Because of its in-accessibility with VoiceOver I am forced to look
elsewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions of another program that is
voiceover accessible? I am looking for a similar style program that will allow
me to make audio CDs, DVDs, data CDs, photo disc, and any other kind of disk I
need. This program was pretty awesome because it was all in one source.
If you have any suggestions of another programs similar to this, I would really
appreciate any feedback you can give me.
Thanks,
Matt.
