flash player issues
Hi, everyone. I tried going onto you tube today and yesterday with Safari. I tried playing a couple videos with flash player, but nothing happens. The videos never played. I was using the Mac I'm renting with OS 10.6 and also another Mac with Mountain Lion. Is anyone having problems playing videos with flash? This is very strange. The flash player seemed to work fine for me on Friday. Katie -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Setup Screen.
Hi, While holding down the VO keys, which are the Control and Option keys, press your right arrow key. This should read whatever is within the VO cursor area. You primarily use the VO keys with left or right arrows to do basic navigation within any dialog or window. You can also determine what windows or dialogs are open by using the Window Chooser which is activated by pressing VO-f2 twice quickly. Simply arrow down the choices and press return on the window you wish to bring focus to. HTH. Later... Re: Language Options and Questions..
Anita, To change language options, go into System Preferences by pressing VO-M, VO-down arrow on Apple, and VO-down arrow until you hear "System Preferences." Once in System Preferences, tab over until you hear "Language and Text." Within this area, you can change the system language, which will change all of the prompts used by VoiceOver. What language od you speak besides English? Just so you know, you can also download many foreign language voices for VoiceOver within VoieOver preferences (VO-F8). I can give you suggestiosn for that if you need them, but changing your system langauge als oinstalls voices for the language selected. Re: Garageband: find out BPM
I used to do it the old-fashioned way under windows, by using a metronome program to match the tempo of the song. Of course, you need a good, accessible metronome app or program. Re: An app for the Mac for modifying id3 tags
Hi Victor, You can try ID3 Editor by Pa-software, which can also be run from a command line interface, as well as through the GUI, if you wish: http://www.pa-software.com/id3editor/ ID3 Editor v1.18.18 £10.00 (GBP), €12.00 (Euro) or $15.00 (USD) Also, a bit off topic, but since you've been using Audiobus on iOS to interconnect the inputs and outputs of Audiobus-compatible apps like Garageband, Thumbjam, iKaosillator, etc., have you also tried AudioShare, which is also accessible and currently on sale for $1.99? It is an Audiobus-compatible iOS application that acts as an audio document manager for the various Audiobus compatible apps, and lets you transfer audio files that you've created between those various apps, including with Dropbox and SoundCloud. Since posts about Audiobus being on sale got zero response, you're probably one of the few people who might be interested in this. HTH. Re: changing subscribed email address?
Hi Scott, This question, and related topics about managing list subscriptions like going "no mail", seem to have come up a lot recently. You can make changes from the "Manage My Memberships" page for your Google Groups accounts at: http://groups.google.com/groups/mysubs?hl=en_US&pli=1 You may be prompted to log in with your email address and password for your Google Groups account before you can reach this page. (Note that the email address is the one that you used to create your Google Groups account -- not your current email address, which may be different. Like the Apple ID, Google adopted a login username in the form of an email address in order to ensure the login user name would be unique.) If you want to switch to another email address that you have already authorized to post from. you can set it up in the pop up menu button for your subscription. If, as is more likely, you want to add a new email address, then you should link on that page for "My Google account" to navigate to your "Account Overview" page. If you want to read more detailed descriptions of the process, please visit one of the previous posts at the Mail Archive web site for this list, like: • Managing List Subscriptions [was Re: To the Moderator of this list] http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg80072.html The Mail Archive pages are an easy way to find answers to topics that were previously discussed on list. All you need to do is type search terms into the search text box and press "return". You can either bookmark the web archive page for this list, or use TextEdit to compose a short, 3-line web shortcut file with the URL of the Mail Archive page for this list that you can place on your Desktop or in the Dock, and that will open your browser at this page when you open the file. (These files can be emailed as attachments, and will also work on Windows machines.) There is a recent AppleVis podcast and posting about how to create such web shortcut files, and my post in the comments on how to create such files for the Mail Archive web pages for this link. Just set the hot spot, and from anywhere, you can press vo and the number of the spot you set, and it'll take you back to that place in the website, provided your browser is still loaded with the content. You can also use them to jump you to specific applications. However, keyboard commanders are also great for this task. Re: No Speech.
Hi, No, it's not a repair issue. Is it the regular sound effects or the VoiceOver sound effects that you're hearing? If you're hearing the regular MacOS sound effects but no speech or VO sound effects, then I think that you may have turn VO speech off with the TrackPad command. To turn it back on, do a three finger double-tap on your TrackPad and it should turn back on. If you're hearing the VO sound effects but no VO speech, I'm guessing that you checked the Mute Speech checkbox in the Speech category of the VO Utility. This will be tricky but not impossible. Press fn-VO-f8 to bring up the VO Utility, press your down arrow twice which will bring focus to the Speech category, press VO-right arrow three times then press VO-space once. Now speech should be back on, navigate with VO-right or VO-left and see if things are read again. Thirdly, you may wish to get sighted assistance to check the Mute Speech setting mentioned above if you can't make it work. Later... Re: No Speech.
sounds like an awfully drastic conclusion. may I suggest rebooting your mac. VoiceOver regularly stops talking on my iMac after it has come out of sleep mode. the solution has been to press command+ F5 four times quickly. This always works and VO comes up talking right away. Not sure why this happens, or why it works, but it always does. I think that command F5 four times quickly is some sort of undocumented VO reset command. Try it yourself before resorting to a reboot. - Original Message - From: anita To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, March 24, 2013 5:55 PM Subject: No Speech. Hi, And one more thing to note, VO is built right into the MacOS, so if you can do something with VO on a Desktop unit, you can do the same on the laptop unit. No need to worry about whether things can be done on one or the other. Later... Re: OS X Server with iTunes library accessible from everywhere
Hi, Answers below: Q: As the topic says, I wonder if it's possible to buy a Mac Mini Server, > > throw my entire iTunes library over there, and have it accessible from > everywhere I am? A: Basically, yes. There would be some performance and syncing issues though depending on your connectivity. If it's primarily music you're accessing, I suggest you simply subscribe to iTunes Match. This will put all your music up in iCloud making it accessible to you wherever you are. > Q: If so, have anyone here tried it, and does it work well? A: You can share your media files using the Server but the actual iTunes Library database does not work properly in this configuration. Therefore, if you change items within playlist and such on one machine, it will not affect the others connecting to the media files. Also, if you add or delete items, they do not show up on other machines unless you do some sort of update each time. With this in mind, that's why I've chosen to subscribe to the iTunes Match service myself. These issues are dealt with well using the iTunes Match service. > Q: Do I need to, and is it possible to setup the Mac to be aVPN server? A: You wouldn't need to set it up as a VPN server although you could. Yes, it is possible to do so. Re: Accessibility Settings.
Hi Anita, I've place your answers after each question below: > Q: In Macs, is there a Start Menu, Settings and Control Panel. I know help > for VO can be gotten with VO+H, if memory serves me correctly. A: No start menu per say. There is the Dock (VO-d) which is a collection of shortcuts to often used apps or other items. Also, when in the Finder, sort of your Desktop application, you can press cmd-option-a to bring up the entire list of applications on your Mac. Regarding the Control Panel, it is called the System Preferences which can either be accessed under the Apple menu (VO-m then down arrow until VO reads System Preferences or it's also on the Dock, VO-d and right arrow until you hear VO read System Preferences). > Q: Can System files be displayed? Not that I need to look at them now, but > was just curious if this is possible. A: By default, most System files are already visible. There are some System and Preference files that are hidden for safety purposes but can be made visible with some Terminal commands. > Q: Does having a CDRom drive slow down performance, or is a system hog? A: It will only slow your System down when it's in operation. If you're referring to what the salesperson at the store mentioned, his/her comments referred to the overall speed of the computer. The MacBook Pros with the built-in Super Drive usually have the spinning HD as opposed to the SSD drive. The SSD drive has no moving parts and allows for a huge increase in access speed to apps and data that reside on it. Therefore, the MBP that you have is probably considerably faster than the base model with the spinning HD. > Q: How do I dim my screen, to retain battery life, or does it depend which > model you have? A: Apple usually tries to make things universal across all models. To dim the screen, press the F1 key. To brighten, press the F2 key. Depending on your keyboard settings, you may or may not need to add the FN key (lower left corner of the keyboard). > Q: How can I change spoken and written language with VO? A: It is not really VO that changes the language, it is your Mac. Consider that VO is part of the OS and thus if you change the language of the system, then the language of VO will change along with it. To change the System language, use the Language & Tex pane within System Preferences. Select the Region tab and choose your region from the pop-up menu. > Q: Is there a graphics labeler? Is labeling graphics easy? A: To label graphics or other unlabeled elements, use the VO-/ command. Make sure that VO is focused on the unlabeled element then press this command to bring up the labeling dialog. > Q: Numpads aren't standard, right? A: Correct. NumPads are not standard on any portable. You'll need to purchase an external USB NumPad if you wish that functionality. > Thanks for any help with this list of questions! Re: A nice wireless printer
That's got me curious too, considering the fact that I'll never buy another hp product of any sort again, so would love some info on this. The last 2 hp products I bought, the software wasn't speech-friendly, so when the message center popped up, I couldn't figure out what it wanted, sense I couldn't do a thing with it, and interaction/jaws cursor never did much, so I generally always had to have help with most of it aside from being able to install updates to my Windows machine, which was an hp machine, which was doable via the Jaws Cursor. Sounds like the DVD controller might be popping up. Triple click the touch pad with fingers to mute VoiceOver. If you have a braille keyboard than you can still read that while watching your video. Re: A nice wireless printer
How's the ink usage on this printer? to me, the most important consideration for a printer is the ink cartridge size and whether or not it is refillable at the local photo shop. for example, I have two HP printers, one, the deskjet 5150 is great on ink, and the black ink cartridge is large and refillable. the other, officejet 6000 stinks on ink and the cartridges aren't refillable. For my simple printing needs, the ink situation tops the list for features. - Original Message - From: Dave To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, March 24, 2013 8:25 AM Subject: Re: A nice wireless printer We just got an HP Photo Smart 6520 All in One printer, scanner, copier. Re: Battery Status.
Hi Aneta, To check battery status, go to the extras menu by pressing vo+M twice quickly. If you vo+right and left arrow, you'll be able to see things like bluetooth, WiFi and other things including clock and battery status. You can create a hot spot for it, that is a keystroke to speak the status without going to the menus, I've just not found that to work as reliably. If you wish to create a hot spot, do the following: Go to the extras menu as stated earlier, and go to where the battery status is located. Then press vo+shift+1 if you want it as your first hot spot. Then, anywhere you are, you just press vo+1 and it will announce the status. and what I mean by the VO keys, is the control and option keys pressed together. Re: Updates.
To check for software updates, use VO M, which brings up the Apple menu. Arrow down to software updates and press enter. The app store window will open on the updates page and the check will begin. Depending on your computer, it will take a few seconds to check. After that, the list of updates will be shown, and a button to press will appear to install all updates. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: checkboxes in firefox won't stay checked.
Basically the bugzilla site is to report bugs. So if you go to: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org you will find some links at the top of the page the link you want will say search. This is the link where you search for bugs. so in the search without these quotes you would say for example, "checkboxes not working in Mac version of Firefox" and then hit Search. I just found a quick search too so when you go to this same page you'll find and edit box and a search button on the main page. Now if you actually have to report a bug you must create an account so you want to click on the New Account link and follow the on-screen instructions. I hope this is more clear for you.
