Re: Using BrailleNoe With Mac AirQuestions

2014-06-29 Thread Christopher Hallsworth
I know on iOS that translation from computer Braille to literary grade
II Braille is best described as querky. This however has been fixed in
iOS 7. What happened is you start typing a word such as black. If you're
a quick typist then you won't see this problem. But if you are a slow
one then you may end up with the letters b l a c just fine but after
entering the k and the space the k would translate to knowledge. Someone
can correct me on this though because I don't use Braille on iOS or OS X
yet. I'm not aware of any issues pertaining to Braille under OS X.

Hi Eileen,

To be honest, braille on OS X is a bit substandard. As you can see,
it doesn't even quite work as designed in some text fields. I'd
encourage you to open the same document in TextEdit, for comparison.
Don't get your hopes up for anything like the quality of support from
the Windows screen readers, I'm afraid.

With regard to BrailleNote in particular, the best way to figure out
what all the keys do is to examine the mappings in VoiceOver Utility.
I changed the panning buttons to be the outer keys, and vertical
navigation to be the inner ones.

I hope you figure this out, but feel free to ask if you get stuck and
I'll try and recreate your issue.

Cheers,
Sabahattin

varies by the location, if TomTon, Navigon, Google Maps or Apple Maps is
better than the other, so it is really the best choice to give user
freedom to pick the one he/she likes.

Luckily Apple provides their turn-by-turn also to 3rd party app
developers, so some day I'll add that as a built-in choice. Possibility
to use 3rd party apps doesn't go away and since Apple provides this
option for free, it will not affect price of the app.

Huh... I had been working from the assumption that it would be necessary to

Blind Square and Creating Routes

2014-06-29 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello All,

Unless Sendero has recently included that in their Seeing Eye app for the
iPhone, the only GPS software that has the function to record a route is the
stand-a-lone soffware for the BrailleNote and Braille Sense products. When the
Sendero app came out for the phone, this was one feature I was hoping for. I
use "My Way Lite" to set a bread crumb route when I need to create one. Oh
by-the-way, I wish those who think that an app is too pricey, to think about
how much in the past one needed to pay for stand-a-lone devices that would do
the same function that an app can do in the iOS environment. This is not the
first time that this type of conversation has sprung up on various lists or
other media sites. I just want to mention that the developers who extremely
dedicated to creating and supporting those who use them should be conmended. My
hats off to the developers of Blind Square and MBraille. I use these apps on a
daily basis.

Thanks for listening.

Best,
Eileen

Re: Blind Square and Creating Routes

2014-06-29 Thread Les Kriegler

Well – said. I like to use commercially available apps when possible. I do
think that one area where blindness related development makes a lot of sense is
in the realm of GPS applications. It's just something that's needed. This isn't
to bash programs like Apple maps or Google maps. They are fine programs. I do
think we have a tendency to talk to much about the price we talk about GPS
applications. While that is a factor, there are other factors to be considered
as I mentioned the other day. Typically, with commercially available apps,
there isn't much help available. With blindness – related apps, you get help
which a lot of people need to be successful in using GPS.

Downcast is also fine for the Mac although when I used it before, because I was
sinking my podcasts with iCloud Downcast got stuck. Has anyone tried it since
as I haven't as I was relying on it for some time before I resorted back to the
I phone. I hope it's working again since the last update for the Mac. I dare
not try it again in case it gets stuck on the Mac as I don't trust it like I
use to as the Downcast App works flawlessly on the iPhone.

Thanks.

Re: Using BrailleNoe With Mac AirQuestions

2014-06-29 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
Swedish letters are verry strange sometimes.
Also the movement of the braille could be much more easy.
Now i am a power user of windows of course and also very used to linux and
their environment and when moving around the braille display on a window
doesn't afect the speech.
However when moving the display over the window on the mac i still hear speech
comming through.
So the speech and braille follows each other which really annoys me.
I want it to be as in window eyes or in orca or brltty for linux.

Re: Using BrailleNoe With Mac AirQuestions

2014-06-29 Thread Robert C

Anders,
Can you explain more? You do not want speech on when using braille?
I have not used my braille display that much yet with the Mac or iPhone
but when I do, speech is on but if I don't want to hear it I can just
mute it. I have not used it yet with Windows but will run NVDA when I do.

But back to what the question I asked was, in what way is Apple's
braikke support lacking? Knowing that, I can be ready for any issues I
may run into. In my limited tests, braille output seems ok.

doesn't afect the speech.
However when moving the display over the window on the mac i still hear speech

So the speech and braille follows each other which really annoys me.
I want it to be as in window eyes or in orca or brltty for linux.

I know on iOS that translation from computer Braille to literary grade II

happened is you start typing a word such as black. If you're a quick typist
then you won't see this problem. But if you are a slow one then you may end up
with the letters b l a c just fine but after entering the k and the space the k

don't use Braille on iOS or OS X yet. I'm not aware of any issues pertaining to

Don't get your hopes up for anything like the quality of support from

With regard to BrailleNote in particular, the best way to figure out
what all the keys do is to examine the mappings in VoiceOver Utility.
I changed the panning buttons to be the outer keys, and vertical

I hope you figure this out, but feel free to ask if you get stuck and

Garage Band questions.

2014-06-29 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hello.

I've just opened Garage band and have a few questions.

At the moment I'm learning Preludes and Fugues and thought I'd use Garage Band
to assist. So a friend of mine created a project for me and we downloaded the
midi file from the internet.

For some reason even though we can find the tempo slider, the tempo is not
changing. So does anyone know who we can get Voice Over to change the tempo?

I don't know if any has a Tyros Yamaha 4 but if so, has anyone connected theirs
to the Mac under Mavericks? If so, please get in touch either on list off list
as I can't seem to connect mine even though the correct driver was downloaded
as the Mac could not see the keyboard.

I don't know what master tracks mean but it's easy enough to get my file
playing and to select the various instruments.

Thank you.

Kawal.

At the moment I haven't got a USB lead yet but if you could send instructions

things off list or one week end a Skype conversation.

Thanks for your assistance.

Re: Logic for mac.

Hello.
Logic pro X is reasonably accessible and it is becoming more and more
accessible with each update.
People are using it with voice over with success making recordings, mixing etc.
There are issues, of course, but it is very usable.

Good luck.

But, voiceover is for all the way over to the right end of the line and
you need to bring the cursor over to the left to get to the check box.

quickly is doing it for me and I don't try to line up the mouse cursor before I
do it.

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
 And now, every day:
"This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:
 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
 his mercies never come to an end;
 they are new every morning;
 great is your faithfulness."

sighted assistance on this one. A sighted person will see right away what
needs to be checked. The checkboxes are to the left of the folder name.
But, voiceover is for all the way over to the right end of the line and
you need to bring the cursor over to the left to get to the check box.
 Good luck

Oh yes, definitely, me too - grin! My comments were not intended to be
anti-sighted help; it's just that often one of them can't be around when I need
them. But then I'm usually not there to help when all the lights go out during
a storm and they can't find the candles either!

hi there First of all make sure that your keyboard is in enought light to be
charged. It helps if you download the app from logitech, if that is where it
is from. For Logitech, you do not use the regular bluetooth to connect it has
its own app. If you do not have a logitech keyboard, I would contact the
company for further help. HDH
