Re: Tandom equivalent for the Mac
Hi Tim, Thanks a lot, I'll give it another try. Obviously I would be a much happier person if it worked 100% reliably, but indeed the hard part is getting the Server app updated, and then restarting it; often it's easier to just remember to bring the keyboard, even when I'm remoting close enough to the thing to be able to hear it through its tinny little speaker. Ah, the effort! :) Yes, I'm almost certain that the softwareupdate tool only checks for software updates of the old school, and not MAS updates. Now that my connection is metred, I'll be switching exclusively to caching, so it's more important than ever that I get this working since I won't have access to the downloaded updates via the Server repository, which is the way you'd do it before Lion. Feel free to put me right if you discover otherwise, as I'd just *love* to be proved wrong. This would be a great time to rant about Apple's obsession with apps at whatever cost, but I'll save it. :) Cheers, Sabahattin -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Recording and monitoring multiple tracks with Garage Band at the same time
Hello GB users, I just cannot get this scenario working. Here it goes. I am trying to record a podcast. For this I loaded two tracks, one of which I will be speaking into (vocal) and another one will take an audio output from iPad (just a basic audio track). I already configured an aggregate device so I can successfully pump the output from each track into a different device. I then enabled recording on multiple tracks at the same time with OPTION+SHIFT+R. However, even though both tracks have their recording checkbox checked, I can only monitor the output from the track under the cursor while recording. Please note, I am attempting to record on two tracks simultaneously. Does anybody know if there is a way to monitor more than one track or am I stuck with this limitation? Thanks for any advice. Voice Dream Reader and the iTunes option
Hi, everyone, I use Voice Dream Reader all the time for reading material from Bookshare. However, I am wondering how I can use the app to read books from other sources such as iBook offerings. When I select the Add option in the Voice Dream app, it appears that one of the options, iTunes, would let me read iBooks that I purchased from the iBook store. Is this the case. I can't really answer this question for myself because I purchased Voice Dream Reader from the app store in the States but thus far, I have only used my Austrian account for purchasing iBooks. Voice Dream Reader is not available in the Austrian store. So put differently, if I start purchasing iBooks from the US store, will I be able to read them with Voice Dream Reader? problems with apple mail + google 2-step verification
Hi everyone, I use my google account and gmail a lot to create new acoounts on sites etc. As an extra precaution i thought it might be wise to setup 2-step verification. The setting itself went fine but then getting apple mail to work did not. Since apple mail cant work with sms verification codes you have to generate an application specefic password on the google site. That part on the site, at least with safari does not seem to be accessible. I do see the dimmed generate button but not the parts where you should be able to select your mail application and the device that you use. I wonder if others have experienced this as well and if there are any solutions (besides turning the safety feature off again which i did for the time being)? Re: problems with apple mail + google 2-step verification
Really? I used that feature for over a year (well, I still do, but I no longer use Google for Mail) and it worked perfectly. I think you must first enter the name of the device or app, just as personal reference, before the Generate button will become available. The label for the text field is long and is identical to the preceding paragraph, so you might just be missing the text field altogether, thinking it is just more text. Sounds like your Safari settings were switched. In Safari, hit command-comma to open preferences, go to the Advanced button in the toolbar, and check the box labeled press tab to highlight every item on a webpage. Copy and Paste
Dear List, Recently, I've tried copying text off a web page and have had little success. I've never had this problem before, on an older mac running Mavericks. Now, I'm using a newer machine but still running Mavericks and can't seem to accomplish task. Below is the steps I've tried. 1. Interact with text on web page with VO, Shift, Down arrow. 2. VO + enter to begin selecting text. 3. VO + Right Arrow till end of desired text. 4. VO + Enter to stop selecting text. 5. Command C to copy. 6. Command V into a word processor to paste. Am I doing something wrong here? Also, I'm using group navigation mode with VO. Curious to know how to copy multiple paragraphs on a web page as well. Meaning parts of an essay which are separated in group navigation mode so it requires you stop interacting with the first paragraph and then VO right arrow to the next paragraph and then interact with the second paragraph. Thanks for any tips. Best, I -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Copy and Paste
Dear Isaac, Thank you for writing back. First, though not a huge issue at this problem, when turning quicknav on, and spinning through my roter, I don't have a paragraph setting. I set it to words. Second, I followed your steps and when I'm ready to copy by pressing command C. I hear the short high pitch sound indicating that whatever I tried to do failed. I tried your steps on a different page, this time a random Wikipedia article and didn't receive the high pitch sign of error. Instead, VO pronounced the phrase copy and when I went to paste the chunk of Wikipedia article into a document, my clipboard was empty. I tried a Wikipedia article in case there was some form of restriction on the original page I'm trying to copy from. Don't see why there would be as its a write up on exercise descriptions. Re: Unsubscribing and resubscribing
Hi, You could do what others suggested with unsubscribe/resubscribing or do the following: 1. Open Safari and go to www.google.com. 2. Press tab or shift tab until you either hear Sign In or your name if already signed in to Gmail. 3. Press return. 4. Navigate with VO to find the Account link and press it. 5. Navigate with VO and Interact with the Personal Info region. 6. Press the Edit button within that region. 7. Using VO navigation, find the Alternate eMail region and Interact with it. 8. Add your iCloud eMail address as an alternate eMail address. What this does is allow you to login to Gmail services with your iCloud eMail address and subsequently makes it real easy to switch your MacVisionaries subscription eMail. This is all you need to do here so close this Safari window. 9. For ease of addressing, go into one of your eMails from the MacVisionaries list and press the link on the Visit this Group line. 10. If you're still logged in to Google, then you can use the Item Chooser to find the MySettings menu button and press it with VO-space. 11. Arrow down to the Manage my eMail and subscription settings item and press return. 12. Press tab until you hear VO announce your Gmail eMail address. If you navigate in this region with VO navigation, you'll note that it is the area where it's asking for which eMail address subscription messages should go to. 13. Press VO-space on this menu and choose your iCloud eMail address. You're done. Rather instantaneously your messages should now go to the iCloud eMail address instead of your Gmail one. You can also use the Accounts region of your Gmail settings to turn off the Gmail service of your Gmail account but that's another kettle of fish. Note that this method does not allow you to totally delete your Google account as all you've really done is linked your iCloud eMail address to the Google account. I wouldn't be in a rush to delete your Google Account linked to your Gmail address as even if you only use an iCloud address to access MacVisionaries content, it's really done via a Google account, it's just an iCloud eMail address within the Google world. Hope that makes sense. Later... Tim Kilburn Fort McMurray, AB Canada On Jul 7, 2014, at 12:46 PM, Desi Noller desi.nol...@gmail.com wrote: I set up my iCloud email address very easily! If anyone has used this, or is using it, I would appreciate hearing what you think. If anyone uses any of the Fresh direct apps and they are accessible, I would also appreciate knowing. Thank you. Re: garage band keyboard shortcuts: expanding loops and note editing
Well, You could try interacting with the Bar, beat, tic within the tool bar just cursor left or right in the correct one there you go. Personally, I have a hot spot set to just jump there. As for resizing a loop, just use VO-Command-Accent to access the resize menu with the loop in question , again, there you go. But, instead of my two cents, how about I just insert a link @ the bottom of this MSG for the most recent GB notes @ I Can Work This Thing? File format for a flash drive switching between Mac and Windows
Hey all, maybe a simple question but it isn't for me. So your advice would be welcome. Basically, I have a flash drive sitting here that I'm thinking of using with somebody to act as the go between for transferring music files. The problem is that he uses Windows. XP I believe and I'm using a Mac. So put simply, when I go to erase/re-format it, what is the recommended file format to pick so that the USB flash drive can safely go between Windows and Mac OS's respectively. Obviously, I know not to choose Mac OS extended and all the other formats that are 'Mac OS.' So I've taken that out of the equation for a start. So, any input on choosing the right file formats between Mac and Windows in order for the USB flash drive to be universally used would be grate to know. Re: File format for a flash drive switching between Mac and Windows
Hi, NTFS is readable by OS X but not writeable without diving into the Terminal or using some third party utilities. In Disk Utility, your choices for making drives accessible by both Windows and Mac are FAT32 and XFAT. FAT32 should do the trick for a Flash drive. If it was an external HD, XFAT may be the better option. Later...
