Re: Microsoft Word on the mac does not want to read more than a few pages out of a long document

2015-08-12 Thread 'Eleanor Roberts' via MacVisionaries
Hi all

Just a note which is probably stating the obvious, but if you're having trouble
with Microsoft Word or any part of the Microsoft sweet then please please feed
it back to them! I have!! The only way they'll listen to us and improve their
accessibility for us is if as many people as possible feed back and tell them
what's wrong and how it needs to be fixed. If we don't all feed back then
it'll just get ignored/brushed under the carpet, which none of us want! Having
said that, if you find positive stuff then please let them know about that
too, so they don't always think we're just a bunch of moaners.

Thanks, and sorry for the rant, but really, if we want things fixed then the
only way it'll be achieved is by feedback from as many as possible.

I too wish you well with your Mac.

I have been using a Mac since 2110 but unfortunately, have to use Windows at
work. It took me a very long time to feel at home on a Mac and at home do
not use Windows even though I have the latest VM Fusion licence but not on
my Mac.

I love the Apple devices and have an I phone 6 plus and an Apple Watch and a

Thanks.

Re: IFTTT Question.

2015-08-12 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi Emilio,

I’ve never used the gmail channel of IFTTT, sorry, so I can’t help you with
that one.

Other ways I’ve used IFTTT include:
automatically saving to Dropbox any articles I send to Instapaper;
sending me text message alerts if it is going to rain tomorrow;
uploading to Dropbox certain files at particular times to trigger Hazel rules
which run AppleScripts as part of my home baked email defer system.

I feel I’m not really taking full advantage of what IFTTT has to offer but for
what I do it works well.

Perhaps we should share notes on OS X and iOS automation off list sometime.

Best,
Nic

IFTTT Question.

2015-08-12 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I have an IFTTT question.
I’ve created a recipe that monitors my Google E-mail account for messages from
particular people, and when receiving a message I have my IFTTT recipe send me
a text message.
However, when I get messages from these people I never get a text message from
my IFTTI Recipe.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is occuring?
Also, what are some ways others have found web-based automation to be helpful
concerning IFTTT?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: question about opening applications

2015-08-12 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Or what I do if I use apps frequently is I move them to the dock. To do this,
just highlight an app you normally use and then press command+control+shift+T.
Voiceover will say something like send to dock or something like that. Do this
until you have all the apps you frequently use that you want in your dock. Then
you can go to your dock with VO+D and type the first few letters of that app
you want to use and then press enter to activate it. I hope this helps someone.
I find the dock more helpful than going to the finder or mission control and
launching them that way.

Re: Introduction

2015-08-12 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
I too wish you well with your Mac.

I have been using a Mac since 2110 but unfortunately, have to use Windows at
work. It took me a very long time to feel at home on a Mac and at home do not
use Windows even though I have the latest VM Fusion licence but not on my Mac.

I love the Apple devices and have an I phone 6 plus and an Apple Watch and a
Mac Mini also along with my I Mac.

Thanks.

Re: Deleting unwanted apps from all devices and icloud as well in the appstore

2015-08-12 Thread Phil Halton
I have asked this very question to Apple support on a few different occasions.
The best that can be done is to hide the applications on the purchase list,
they cannot be deleted. I am not certain as to how this is done. As to your
other questions the apps list in iTunes, I just don't have an answer for you.

Hi Wayne, welcome to the list. I just joined my self although I’ve been a Mac
user now for 6 years or so. I would agree with Alex, the best way to learn the
Mac is to just cut your self off entirely from Windows or maybe use your
windows device to play a podcast and work along with it on your Mac but that’s
it. Force yourself to switch as much as possible and you’ll make some serious
headway. That’s how I had to do it.

Good luck and ask away.

Re: adding segWays and storyboard entry points using VoiceOver

2015-08-12 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi Alex,

There’s a particular process to adding tabs to tabbars. heres the process:
1-first create all your view controllers with the names of the tabs you want,
as sub classes of UIViewController
2-open the default view controller.swift and make the view controller an
instance of UITabBarController like follows
class viewController: UITabBarController {}
> 3-In mainstoryboard’s document outline, select the default view controller,
> and delete it
4-drag the UITabBarController from the library to the document outline. On this
one, don’t drag and drop in the document outline but on the scroll area of
mainstorybard. Doing it this way will work everytime while trying to put it in
the outline will give you no result
5-The UITabBarController contains 2 view controllers by default. Change the
UITabBarController as root view controller in the attributes inspector by
checking root view
6-back in the document outline, expand the views called (item 1 and item2),
select the tab, go to atrributes inspector and change its name to whatever your
view controller is for reading purposes.
7-still in the document outline, find either view controller whose names you
changed and go to identity inspector, and change the base class to your custom
viewcontroller class
8-If you want to add more tabs, drag a new view controller into the outline and
make sure that you are placing it on the root view controller to create the
relationship between root and sub view controller or tab.
9-You can alternatively look for connections in the connections inspector of
the main controller and look for something like cconnect subview or something
like that. the process is the same, shift vo command space, go to outline, find
the sub view controller, and release.

Hope this helps

Re: Microsoft Word on the mac does not want to read more than a few pages out of a long document

2015-08-12 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Krister,

Thank you for confirming this. I think it's fair to say that I've given
Microsoft Office a good chance on the mac but I find it difficult to justify
subscribing to Office365 any longer. I shall have to pull the plug on this and
just stick to Pages and office on the Windows side I run in virtual machine -
not very convenient.

Thanks again

Andrew

Hi,
What i’m going to say now will not help you in the least and for that i’m
sorry. However, I can partly confirm the behaviour you see, only i can’t read
anything but some changes in attributes such as font, style etc if i’m lucky,
apart from that, nada, nothing, zero and zilch. I don’t know what’s going on
here but if anyone could help that would be really great.

Deleting unwanted apps from all devices and icloud as well in the appstore

2015-08-12 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Listers,

Over the years I have tried quite a few apps. Some I've purchased, others are
free. Many of them I now don't use and will not use in the future. I know
it's easy to delete them from my devices but is there a way of deleting them
from the list of application in the itunes section of devices and better still
deleting them for ever from the "purchased" list of my apps in iCloud? With
all these apps I don't want, looking for the ones I wish to sync is a pain.

Many thanks

Andrew

Microsoft Word on the mac does not want to read more than a few pages out of a long document

2015-08-12 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Listers,

I have opened a document in the latest Microsoft Word on the mac. I know this
document has 29 pages since I had opened it before in Pages. However, I don't
seem to be able to transit further than 4 pages and I'm thrown back to the
first page. it's driving me crazy. Any suggestions? I feel like I'm gonna
ditch Microsoft suite altogether and cancel the Office subscription. Waste of
money if I can't use it properly.

Thanks for any suggestions

Andrew
