RE: Apple mail insists upon replying from a dead me.com e-mail address when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent this

Hi Kevin,

Not that I’m aware of, I use reply in most cases and it appears to get back to
the list.

Is it the deal that you have to reply ALL if you’re going to reply from your
e-mail client instead of from the web? Asking for a fiend. :)

It was kind of a drag that the only way I could reply reliably was to reply

the sending address as kevj...@me.com. If I don’t
happen to remember to click on the outgoing address and change it to
kevj...@icloud.com, the mail will be sent to nowhere

from whatever I asked about is because nobody saw what I wrote.

I have tried my best to make sure that kevj...@me.com is
toast. It is no longer present as a sender’s e-mail address. But it remains
as an option in the list of e-mail addresses I can choose when sending e-mails.
In fact, if I am currently highlighting an e-mail that came to my iCloud
account, initiating a blank e-mail appears to populate the From field with
kevj...@me.com, regardless of what e-mail address I
actually want in the From field. I can’t remove this me.com
address as an option in the From field no matter what I do. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello David,

That sounds like a good idea except for the amount of storage space it takes
for each complete file with all of it's default overhead.

Hi Mark, apart from the laughter here,

And although a limo would look good,
The F150 would sound a truckload better just lacking the drinks cabinet and
need to not worry about drinking and driving.
 But yeah, Looks are everything,

Hi Simon,

Yes, you're probably right but it would not be the same.

A good journaling app is very sleek and presents the data in a certain way that
just looks right. (smile). Silly, I know.

I suppose it's kind of like showing up at the prom in a modern stretch
limousine versus showing up in your dad's old beat-up, step-side, circa 1950,
Ford F150 pickup truck.

Well, now that I think about it, not really but I've been wanting to use that
Ford F-150 comparison for quite some time now. (big Smile).

Hello All,

I downloaded Mac Journal for iPad a few weeks ago but, to be honest, I don't
really like it. For one thing, it's kind of wonky when it comes to having the
data stored in iCloud.

When I open the app on my iPhone, sometimes it sees the entries I've made on
iPad and sometimes, . Now I do not have Mac Journal for Mac OS and I don't
plan on spending anymore money on this particular product.

So, can anyone recommend another VoiceOver accessible diary/journaling app?
It would be great if the app could store data on iCloud.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

RE: Windows Audio wit VM Fusion

2019-06-23 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Kelly,

What key presses are you using to start narrator or jaws?

I would suggest turning off voiceover and use the right command key and dtrl
plus enter to start narrator and then see what you get happening from there?

Hi Pete and all,

The sound card is definitely present. I hear all the standard sounds from
Windows and when the screen readers are talking, the sound meters indicate that
audio is being produced.

Two thinks, Kelly, that you’ve probably already done but just in case:

1. JAWS, particularly, as you know, has the Sound Card option as one of the
things in the Utilities folder. See if there’s more than just the default
Windows sound card as an option.
2. With your VM running, you should be able to do CTRL+Opt+Right to get to
devices, interact with them and make sure the sound card is present there.

Not sure if this will help but thought I’d suggest anyhow.

Try bringing the vm to focus and then switch voiceover off using command f5,
Then try switching narrator jaws or NVDA on.
Narrator would be the simplist one.
Remember that by default the left command key is not going to work as a widnows

Hi,

it’s been driving me crazy for a long time. Some of the audiobooks which I
import into iTunes have the MP3 extension. They are seen & sorted by itunes as
music genre. In the Info I seem to be unable to change this into audiobooks
under options/media kind tab. Is there something I am doing wrong? In Options
tab in the “media kind" popup button, the only category is Music. But that’s
just illogical as in the Details tab I can change the genre to audiobooks

Any ideas?

RE: Compared: Brydge Pro vs Logitech Slim Folio Pro

2019-06-23 Thread Simon Fogarty
Yeah I can say that both these devices are great.

I had the 10.5” version of the brydge keyboard for my iPad and found it
fantastic and easy to use,
I also had the Logitech version of the slim folio keyboard and apart from the
bulk and rough feel of it
It was a solid package and very drop resistant.
As I said these were the 10.5” versions for the ipad pro
I’ve been looking at the 11” brydge pro keyboard but currently finding the
apple smart keyboard useable
And as the brydge pro 11’ keyboard is so costly I thought I’d leave it for a
while.

Subject: Compared: Brydge Pro vs Logitech Slim Folio Pro

Third-party keyboards are really popular for the 2018 iPad Pros, and one of the
best selling keyboards are the Brydge Pro and Logitech Slim Folio Pro. Both of
these keyboards are available for the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Let's
compare and see which one is best for what type of user.

Side by side: Logitech Slim Folio Pro (left), Brydge Pro (right)
Brydge Pro is not a case, but an external keyboard

The Brydge Pro Keyboard is not a keyboard case like the Slim Folio Pro, it's an
external Bluetooth keyboard that transforms your iPad
Pro
into a MacBook with its sturdy aluminum body that is cold to the touch and
offers an almost unlimited viewing angle.

11-inch iPad Pro with Brydge Pro

The keyboard itself has decent key travel, as we mentioned in our
review
and are backlit with up to three different brightness options. It packs a
battery that can last up to a year and charges via USB-C, has iOS shortcuts
above the number key, and there's also a place for the second-generation Apple
Pencil to sit on the iPad and wirelessly charge.

If you do want more of a "case" with the keyboard, Brydge does offer optional
back covers that work with its keyboards for full coverage.

Subscribe to AppleInsider on
YouTube
Logitech offers full protection, and a keyboard

The Logitech Slim Folio Pro on the other hand is a really nice rugged keyboard
case solution for the iPad Pro, which protects protects all four corners of the
iPad while also having enough clearance for the second-generation Apple Pencil.
It's made out of a high quality, durable silicone material and it's rugged.

Unlike the Brydge Pro, you'll have actual drop protection for your iPad Pro.

Logitech Slim Folio Pro

In terms of overall design though, we really like Brydge Pro keyboard in terms
of looks. It's a lot sleeker, and feels way better to carry the iPad when it's
closed, and it weighs less than Logitech's offering.

The Logitech Slim Folio Pro is not a slim device at all, despite the word
"Slim" on its name. It's a bit thicker than the Brydge Pro, and noticeably
heavier too, but there's a reason for that. While the Brydge Pro is lighter and
slimmer than the Logitech, the Slim Folio Pro acts as a case as well, and uses
different silicone materials to help protect the iPad from bumps and drops.

Functionality over portability?

When it comes to functionality, and how the keyboards perform, the Slim Folio
Pro is the clear winner here. As mentioned in our review, the keyboard feels
great, and has plenty of travel, very reminiscent of Apple's MacBook keyboard
before they switched over to their new butterfly switches.

Typing on the Brydge Pro is just OK once you have it next to the Slim Folio Pro
as it offers enough key travel, better than the Apple Smart Keyboard, but
without the same key travel or tactile feedback as the Slim Folio Pro. One
thing I do love from the Brydge Pro though is how bright the keys are at night,
with its brightness options able to emit more light than the Logitech Slim
Folio Pro.

Logitech Slim Folio Pro

Logitech offers two different typing positions by adjusting the back which
gives you a more vertical view of the display. You can also set it in drawing'
mode where the keyboard goes behind the iPad, but given the bigger footprint,
and key travel on the Slim Folio Pro, pushing down on the iPad on either side
of the device will make the iPad uneven at times and can be a bit frustrating
when using the Apple Pencil.

The Brydge Pro, on the other hand, offers an almost unlimited viewing angles
which is something I really love about this keyboard. Like a traditional
laptop, you can move the iPad at almost any angle and type away, and you're not
restricted to just two angles due to the free flowing hinge design. You can
also put it in movie mode or drawing mode by taking out the iPad and flipping
it the other way and folding it down.

Subject: Any Good Journaling or Diary Apps, Anyone?

Mark

And of course, you can use the Be My Eyes app to have a cited assistant help
you direct the mouse pointer. I’ve done this before and it’s just the kind of
thing they’re there for. Just make sure you have your screen brightness up and
be ready to hold the phone with one hand and work the trackpad with the other.

2019-06-23 Thread M. Taylor
Kevin! Kevin! Kevin!

I loved your statement, “I have to kill this if it's the last thing I do.”

Man, I cannot stop laughing. I know exactly, and I do mean, exactly, how you
feel.Your statement, along with its sentiment is going to keep me smiling ,
for a long, long time. Thank you for that.

As to your issue, it sounds to me that you may need to delete your @me.com
alias from either or both your iCloud account and/or your Google account.

In either case, you must do this from your account page.

It’s been a while since I’ve done this on Google but on an iOS device, for
Apple, do the following:

1.
Go to Settings.

2.
Click on your name.

3.
Select the Name, Phone Numbers, and Email, button. A dialog box will appear
that list all of the email address / aliases currently associated with your
Apple ID. To change or delete any items, select the Edit button located near
the upper right corner of the display.

As I said, the issue may be associated with your Google account, also. Best
to check, just in case.

Good Luck, let us know what happens, and above all else, thank you for the
laugh.

guys,

Following up. I just now attempted to send a fresh e-mail to the Reaper list
shown here. Because I was sending this in Apple Mail while highlighting an
unrelated message that came to my Gmail account, typing in RWP autofilled the
TO field with r...@groups.io as it should. I sent the message and I received
it as I would have expected. But when I attempted to reply to my own thread,
my sender e-mail was kevj...@me.com again. I have to kill this if it's the

Ideas?

Can anyone help?

2019-06-23 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Jurgen and All,

Okay, I found Day One on the app store.

I see that there is a $34 price tag. Is this correct? I don't mind paying $34
as long as it is a flat rate. Some reviewers were saying that the app requires
a subscription. Is this so? I am a little confused on this point. Finally,
one of the reviewers states that Day One does not allow you to store your data
in iCloud but, rather, stores data on a Day One server.

I saw several reviews that really slammed the developers for not allowing
iCloud data storage especially when such personal data is in question.

Hey Marc,

save your money. I don't like Mac Journal for the same reasons and some more.

I'm very happy with Day One. Syncing works great and it's easy to use. The only
thing: the audio recorder is not really accessible with VoiceOver. But I capture
audios in an other app and import it via the share sheet to Day One. Works fine.

So, give it a try. All versions are accessible, for iOS and Mac OS.

All the best

Hi,

Place your finger on the TrackPad, move up and to the right. Hopefully, VO
announces what's under the mouse. You can lift your finger, then slide up
again if you're not certain that the pointer has got to the top MenuBar area.
You can even go towards the left hand side, where the regular menu items reside
and see if VO reads anything there. You can press down on the TrackPad to
click the mouse. If a menu appears, then VO navigation should work within the
menu.

Re: MacBook Pro audio

2019-06-23 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

The foot thing would have nothing to do with the audio. Do you get music if
you try to play from iTunes but just no VO sound, or nothing at all as far as
you can tell. If the latter, while using the headphones, go to System Prefs,
Sound and press the Output tab. Check the devices you have listed there.
Interact with the table of output devices, make sure that the headphones item
is selected, then unplug the headphones. If there's still no sound, press the
up arrow a few times, then press return. If you still get no sound, then it's
possible that something's gone awry with the built-in sound card, but I
wouldn't give up yet.

Next, let's clear the PRAM. Shutdown the Mac. Wait for about 10 seconds, then
get twister fingers ready. You'll need to press down the Command, Option, r
and p keys at the same time. I usually put my left thumb across the cmd and
Option keys then my left index finger on the r and right pinky on the p key.
have thoat combination ready, press the power button, then as the Startup Chime
begins to sound, press those four keys down. Hold them down and continue
holding them down after the chime finishes. Keep holding them down through an
additional three chime sounds, then release all the keys. Let the Mac start up
and see if you get sound now. If not, shut it down again. Plug in the power
cord, hold down the left hand side ctrl, Option and Shift keys, then while
they're down, press the power button and release the power button quickly.
Wait about 10 seconds, then power it up again. If you get sound now, life is
good, if not, then hardware problems may exist.

If you have anyone that can help that is sighted, have them look at all the
levels in that Sound pane when the headphones are not connected. If everything
looks normal, then there may be issues with the sound card itself.

Let me know how it goes.

Later...

MacBook Pro audio

2019-06-23 Thread Gabe Griffith
Hi all,

I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro running version 10.13.6. A couple of weeks ago I
quit getting any audio out of the speakers. I have tried toggling mute and
pressing the up volume button several times with no change. I'm getting audio
through headphones but that's the only way I can use the computer. About the
same time this happened I noticed that the round plasticky foot on the right
front bottom corner is missing. Does anyone know if this would be related and
if not does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Gabe

2019-06-23 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

As mentioned, the WiFi network will already be connected if you were connected
to it prior to restarting your Mac. Other than that, you may need to move the
mouse physically up to the right side of the MenuBar and click a bit to see if
you can find the WiFi menu. It should really already be connected though.

Re: Apple mail insists upon replying from a dead me.com e-mail address when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent this

2019-06-23 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Try going to Mail Prefs, Accounts, look through the list of eMail accounts. If
your old account is there, select it, then stop interacting with the Accounts
table and navigate to the Remove button. Also check in the Internet Accounts
pane of System Prefs to see if the old account resides there at all. If so,
delete it from there. If none of that seems to work, go back into Mail Prefs
on the Accounts pane, select your current account, select the Server Settings
tab, and confirm the Outgoing Mail Server is the iCloud server with your
current credentials.

Re: Apple mail insists upon replying from a dead me.com e-mail address when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent this

2019-06-23 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

Following up. I just now attempted to send a fresh e-mail to the Reaper
list shown here. Because I was sending this in Apple Mail while
highlighting an unrelated message that came to my Gmail account, typing in
RWP autofilled the TO field with r...@groups.io as it should. I sent the
message and I received it as I would have expected. But when I attempted
to reply to my own thread, my sender e-mail was kevj...@me.com again. I
have to kill this if it's the last thing I do.

Ideas?

Kevin

Sounds like this defunked address is in your past recipients table. You need
to go in to your windows menu off your main menu and find this table and from
there delete the address you don’t want there.

Apple mail insists upon replying from a dead me.com e-mail address when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent this

2019-06-23 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,

Many years ago, I subscribed to a Reaper mailing list using my kevj...@me.com
address. This address is now long dead. I have since unsubscribed and
resubscribed to this mailing list using kevj...@icloud.com. However, even
though my e-mails from this list come to my iCloud address, hitting reply
automatically populates the sending address as kevj...@me.com. If I don’t
happen to remember to click on the outgoing address and change it to
kevj...@icloud.com, the mail will be sent to nowhere and it will take a few
days for me to realize that the reason I haven’t heard from whatever I asked
about is because nobody saw what I wrote.

I have tried my best to make sure that kevj...@me.com is toast. It is no
longer present as a sender’s e-mail address. But it remains as an option in
the list of e-mail addresses I can choose when sending e-mails. In fact, if I
am currently highlighting an e-mail that came to my iCloud account, initiating
a blank e-mail appears to populate the From field with kevj...@me.com,
regardless of what e-mail address I actually want in the From field. I can’t
remove this me.com address as an option in the From field no matter what I do.
Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Kevin

Re: How to choose a Wi-Fi network in recovery mode

2019-06-23 Thread Erik Heil
Hello,
OK, here is the quick answer. If you have previously connected to WiFi
before, and your Mac is in range of one of them, it will connect to it.
Basically what you have is a stripped-down version of MacOS, so connecting
to other WiFi networks is a simple solution using the menus. I at least
hope this helps you a little bit.

Re: Windows Audio wit VM Fusion

2019-06-23 Thread Pete De Vasto
Two thinks, Kelly, that you’ve probably already done but just in case:

1. JAWS, particularly, as you know, has the Sound Card option as one of the
things in the Utilities folder. See if there’s more than just the default
Windows sound card as an option.
2. With your VM running, you should be able to do CTRL+Opt+Right to get to
devices, interact with them and make sure the sound card is present there.

Not sure if this will help but thought I’d suggest anyhow.

Re: Windows Audio wit VM Fusion

2019-06-23 Thread kelly ford
This is very perplexing.  I have installed the VMWare tools, after using
sighted help to get through setup.  This has no change.

I hear all the sounds from Windows but no screen reader speech.  I’ve now
installed JAWS, NVDA and tried Narrator.

I can play music on the virtual machine and hear that.

How to choose a Wi-Fi network in recovery mode

2019-06-23 Thread Joe Quinn
I don’t mean to sound anxious, but I kind of am. I need a response as soon as
possible. I am trying to reinstall my macOS Mojave, but I need to have a sure
way of being able to choose a Wi-Fi network in recovery mode using voiceover.
Going to the Internet recovery option is not an option, because it doesn’t
speak. Voiceover m twice seems to get me to a switch input screen, something
to do with the keyboard? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Jurgen,

Thank you for the recommendation.

Okay, I'll give the One Day app, a try.

Hey Marc,

save your money.

Jürgen

Compared: Brydge Pro vs Logitech Slim Folio Pro

2019-06-23 Thread KliphnShari Miller
Third-party keyboards are really popular for the 2018 iPad Pros, and one of the
best selling keyboards are the Brydge Pro and Logitech Slim Folio Pro. Both of
these keyboards are available for the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Let's
compare and see which one is best for what type of user.

The Brydge Pro Keyboard is not a keyboard case like the Slim Folio Pro, it's an
external Bluetooth keyboard that transforms your iPad Pro into a MacBook with
its sturdy aluminum body that is cold to the touch and offers an almost
unlimited viewing angle.

11-inch iPad Pro with Brydge Pro
The keyboard itself has decent key travel, as we mentioned in our review and
are backlit with up to three different brightness options. It packs a battery
that can last up to a year and charges via USB-C, has iOS shortcuts above the
number key, and there's also a place for the second-generation Apple Pencil to
sit on the iPad and wirelessly charge.

If you do want more of a "case" with the keyboard, Brydge does offer optional
back covers that work with its keyboards for full coverage.

Brydge Pro Keyboard
Battery life on the Slim Folio Pro is supposed to last up to three months which
isn't terrible, but isn't great either. The Brydge Pro on the other hand is
supposed to last up to a year on a single charge. We haven't had these two
keyboards for more than 3 months to check if these claims are true, but if
you're interested in a revisited video, let us know in the comments below.

Which wins out?

That said, which one gets the edge?

Here's the thing. If you're looking for a traditional folio keyboard case
that'll protect your iPad Pro from drops or bumps and scratches, and you don't
really care how thick or heavy your iPad Pro is, then pick up the Logitech Slim
Folio Pro. But if you're looking for something unique that'll offer an almost
unlimited viewing angles that mimics a traditional laptop that is thinner, and
weighs less, but still want a good typing experience, the Brydge Pro is what
you should pick up.

Where to buy

The Brydge keyboard for Apple's 11-inch iPad Pro and third-generation 12.9-inch
iPad Pro can be purchased f

 Hi mary,

I think I saw this reply from Tim also.

The newer 4th gen tvs don't have the optical connection.

This is why my sonos play bar connects to my Samsung tv and then my apple
tv also but using HDMI connects to the Samsung tv also.

I then had to disable the Samsung tv's speakers to ensure the sound came
 through the sonos systems.

I know my apple tv 3rd gen had optical input / output.

 Hi Simon,
Well, it seems to me that we tried the sound bar that my husband currently
uses, which is one that exhibits the problem, with an optical cable. But I
could be wrong. That probably would’ve been with an older Apple TV. I have
the one just before the 4K these days, and I don’t even know if it has an
optical connection. Seems to me I remember that it doesn’t. But I will
 have to check into it.

Hi,

I am curious if anyone else can duplicate an issue or has a suggestion for a
work around?

I installed Fusion 11 on a MacBook Pro. I then created a new Windows VM and
booted from an ISO for the most current release of Windows 10. I was able to
get Narrator to start to do the Windows install but have no speech. I do have
the sounds Narrator makes when moving around and such just not the voice.
