I too have a carpal tunnel issue. I also look forward to accessing the book app
with voice commands, and minimal keystrokes.

Warmly,

I tried assigning the read next sentence and read prior sentence commands to
single keys in the Quick NAV and keyboard commanders, but they don’t function
and text field of iBooks for some reason. So, I then rigged up a system of a
piece of wood and a 2 1/2 pound weight to hold down the function control option
and command keys and therefore allowing me to read down and up Buy sentence
with a single key press on the up and down arrows. This will save a lot of wear
and tear on my left hand nerves.

The

Epub books with ibooks app

2020-02-14 Thread hemakarah
Hi all,

I downloaded a book from Bookshare. It was in Epub format. First time, I could
access the book flawlessly using the Ibook app on the Mac. Second time, it
could read just the cover page. It was just saying bullet, bullet, and the
like. No idea why this happened. Kindly guide me. Kurzweil 3000 looks very
accessible when it comes to bookshare. But the software is damn expensive for
me.

Take care,

Hem.

Re: Searching a specific folder for a specific file type on the mac

2020-02-14 Thread Barry Hadder
1. Command-f in the desired folder. When you do this, focus will be on the
search field in the toolbar.
2. Stop interacting with the toolbar and move vo to the search section. Make
sure that the radio button option to search the folder is selected.
3. Move vo to the search criteria. If you don't find the Boolean search
options than make sure that vo reports the hide search criteria toggle in the
selected state.
you will probably figure out the rest.

Yes but rules work on incoming messages,

Not messages that have already arrived.

Highlight the ones you wish to forward and then use the forwarding option to

Yes, they are in the inbox. How on earth would I manage to intercept them

Subject: Mail Rule for Auto-Forwarding

I’ve broached this subject before. I’m still having no luck in creating a mail
rule to automatically forward a message that arrives in my inbox each morning.
I have no problems creating rules, and have several that move messages to
various folders.
For the auto forward, I have no problem setting up the criteria, but in the
action section is where I think the problem lies. I select the pop-up for
forward and then type in the recipient’s email (which is correctly typed). Then
like any other rule I select OK and then Apply.
But the rule never works, even after editing or completely removing and
re-building. This message does have an attachment, which I want to have
forwarded, but there seems to be no provision for anticipating this in my
choice of actions.
Has anyone else been able to construct a rule to do an auto forward?

We're just SOL as far as I'm aware. I've made noise to the powers that be, but

Re: Controlling books on OS X with voice commands

2020-02-14 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Well, I can’t test here..
1. If buttons are properly labeled, one is supposed to be able to click on them
with VOice Commander by just saying the appropriate phrase.

That being said, the Books application is one of those that is essentially a
IOS application wrapped in MacOS clothes, so I have no idea if this will cause
some issues. Specifically, I know that Books has no Apple Automation
integration and can therefore only be marginally controlled with AppleScript.

I’m sure that I could create or help you create an AppleScript to send that

like that but I know what all the code points would be.

Re: Accessibility of duolingo or similar software on iPhone

2020-02-14 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I stopped using DuoLingo after my trip last May, but in the year prior to that
it was constantly getting better for me to use. Especially with Braille
support. Around Jan 2019 they put in features that made keyboard input switch
languages based on if the answer was supposed to be in Hebrew or English. I
also saw general progress in the advertising screens being less troublesome.
When I first was using DuoLingo, when I got a spinner to get a “prize” I
couldn’t activate it with VoiceOVer, and when I received an advertisement, I
would just wait a day to use the app again, or click on No more ads and then
click on “No Thanks” for the option to pay $5/month to get no ads.

Jonathan

Tim, would additional noise to the powers that be help? If so I'd be delighted

Have you confirmed that this terminal command actually works, and the start
“chime” sound is restored?

I have read articles from Apple Insider and other sources with commands for
restoring the chime, and none of them work. Then, i read an article that
stated that these commands worked on older pre-TouchBar Macs, but not on the
newer TouchBar Macs introduced in 2016 and forward.

Mac start sound

2020-02-14 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi,

several times I read on the internet of a way to get back the Mac start sound
on the newer Macs. The discription says to enter the folloing command in
Terminal and restart the Mac:

sudo nvram StartupMute=%00

So far it didn’t work for me. Are you aware of a different way or am I doing
something wrong?

Thanks and all the best

Re: Mail Rule for Auto-Forwarding

2020-02-14 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Probably. I've just always known that. You can test this by sending an eMail
from one account to another and setting up your rule to watch for messages from
that one account. There's probably a rational, logical, reason explained
somewhere in Google-land, but I've never bothered to make the effort to search
for it yet.

I was wondering whether duolingo or any other languages study app might be

2020-02-14 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Dave,

Has the message you wish to auto-forward already arrived in your InBox? If
yes, then that's likely the problem. I believe that this action will not act
on items that currently reside in your message list. It will only act on
incoming messages.

5G iPad Pro, $399 iPhone, and AirPods Pro Lite in 2020?

Hi Listers,

I thought after the recent discussion that people might like to read this one.

The idea with the new iPads sounds interesting.

5G iPad Pro Models With A14 Series Chip Said to Launch in Fall 2020

A report this week claims that Apple plans to release its first iPhone and iPad
models with 5G connectivity in the second half of 2020

. An announcement in September or October is possible.

The new iPhone and iPad models are expected to be equipped with 5nm-based A14
chips — likely A14X for the iPad Pro — and support a combination of mmWave and
sub-6GHz variants of 5G. Qualcomm is expected to supply its Snapdragon X55
modem for the iPhones, but the report does not specify which modem the iPads
will use.

Upcoming Low-Cost iPhone Again Rumored to Start at $399

Apple is widely rumored to be planning a new lower-cost iPhone model,
tentatively referred to as the iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9, and a new report this
week claims the device will start at $399 in the United States

 .

The device is expected to resemble the iPhone 8 with a 4.7-inch display and a
Touch ID home button, but with a faster A13 chip and 3GB of RAM. It will be
available with 64GB or 128GB of storage in Space Gray, Silver, and
(PRODUCT)RED, according to oft-reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Rumors have suggested the new lower-cost iPhone will be unveiled around March,
and ahead of time, suppliers are reportedly gearing up for production of the
device

. With manufacturing delays stemming from the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak in
China, however, there is some uncertainty about launch timing.

Apple Reportedly Working on 'AirPod Pro Lite' Earphones

A questionable report this week claims that Apple is working with supply

"AirPod Pro Lite" wireless earphones

 .

"AirPod Pro Lite" is a bit of an oxymoron, as "Pro Lite" sounds like the
regular AirPods that Apple sells for $159. Without any further details
provided, it is unclear if the report is referring to third-generation AirPods
or something else.
