Re: how install windows 7
Hi all. I had the same issue with a complete original windows 7 disc and serial number. It doesn't install at all from the disc. It spins the disc for a while and then do nothing. So I thought it was due to the w7 copy was a upgrade version of w7 so I installed it on my old hp laptop instead. There it worked upgradeing vista. Re: Paring the Brailliant 40 via Bluetooth
Hi all. I tried baum supervario 40 with bluetooth and the mac says that the driver can't be loaded. I think supervario 40 is the same as brailleant 40 but baum has their own firmware in it. Also supervario works fine on usb. Maybe thats my device having problems so i'm going to try another one when I can. Re: Voiceover and Alva Satelite 544
Hi. I use alva 544 on my mac and it works perfect. only plug it in. My version is the traveler so it doesn't have the two other usb ports, wich is a usb 1 hub. Sometimes the mac lose connection with the display but if I switch it off and on again it works. Hi Krister. I think your displays work on your other mac and you try them on the mb pro? is this correct? Did you transfer your settings from the older machine to the mb pro? And, did you use the swedish braille table? I have the same problem then transfering the content from a macbook to a Imac and I have blank braille display until I installed the swedish brailletables again on the newer machine. If you didn't have the swedish table installed, maybe reselecting braille table in vo settings can help you. Hi My stream shows it self like a external drive in windows, mac os x and ubuntu just fine. Haven't tried windows with fusion under os x. I have firmware 3.0 of the stream. I can copy files to and from the stream just fine on all thre os-versions. The only thing I can see is that it take a very long time to copy files on the mac but maybe it's normal, often use cardreader on my old pc to copy files. vm fusion and installing ubuntu
Hi all. I have sucessfully installed a copy of windows xp on my mac with vm fusion and it work fine. I tried to install ubuntu but I can't figure out how to start a manual install of ubuntu. I can use the automatic one and it worked ok, but screenreading doesn't work great with a normal install so Iwant to do it with the accessibillity profile from the beginning. So you need to press enter for language and then f5, 3, and then arrow down and enter to start the installer. I can't figure out how to do this. Anyone tried that? Or how can I get ubuntu running with the accessibillity profile with the autmatic install? The reason is that I want both windows and linux on my mac to demonstrate all operating systems later this month and I want to have only one machine with me. Hi. I have tried vmware fusion with windows xp as a virtual machine with jaws 9 and it works very well. I can use jaws in widnows and voice over together but voice over takes control over some keys so to get most commands out of jaws I focused on the virtual machine and when it is running and jaws working I hit command-f5 and turned v o off. Doing so let me run jaws with the laptop layout and caps lock works as the jaws key for example. The only thing I can't get to work is some function keys like f11 and f12 so I can't bring up jaws systray dialog with jawskey + f11 for example. I'm only using this virtual machine for a few programs that don't exest on mac, for example echolink for hamradio. So I think it works very well with vmware fusion and voice over. The only thing I didn't manage to get working is ubuntu under vmware. Oh, forgot to say when you need voice over simply press command-f5 again. Hope that helps. Hi all Just upgrading to s l. I noticed that vo saying the letters k l instaed of at when I type the @ Maybe thats a bug in the swedish translation of s l but can I fix that? I'm not so impressed with s l.
Hi all. Spending yesterday evening with snow leopard and I must say that I'm not very impressed. Here is my observations so far. - VO gets stuck in submenus and also jumps over menu items. This have been discussed here before. - In swedish translation vo says k l instad of at for the @-symbol. - Safari and vo don't work well in html version of gmail and don't work at all in google reader. And safari often crashes. But there are some good points with s l. it's a bit faster and more responsive but I'm thinking of restoring my mb back to leopard to get the web and the menus working great again until apple fix them. Does anyone here have any ideas how to fix the issues I'll be happy, otherwise I roll back to leopard. Have a nice weekend. Using voice over during a call on iphone.
Hi all. I have looked around the webb but can't find answer to my ipone question. I have used the iphone for a couple of days and so far no problem. But a question. How do I activate voice over during a call? I red somewhere that you can flick two fingers upwards to get v o speaking but that didn't work. I need v o during calls so I can navigate the phone keypad so I for example can use tone controled systems. Any Idea? And when I'm at the keybord, does anyone know of a good skin or case to use with the Iphone? I'm afraid dropping it so I want some skin or case that makes it little more easy to hold. recording lp or tapes to the mac
Hi all. Does anyone know of any good software to use for recording lp or tapes to the mac. I used audio grabber for windows to do that and I really liked the features it have for splitting tracks etc. Is there anything similar on the mac. Free or payed software. I have amadeus for a testdrive but it looks very overkill just for recording tapes and lps to the mac. Any tips are welcome. Hi. Thanks for all tips. I didn't think about audio hijac, I'll give it a try. Have someone here any good suggestion for usb soundcards to use with the mac? I want 5.1 sound output so I can connect the mac mini I have to my reciever. That old thing doesn't have digital input so I have to use analog. I found a Asus xonar ua usb soundcard that sounds good when I red the discription but I couldn't find anything that said it works on mac. Any tips are welcome. readiris 12 pro
HI all. Have anyone get readiris 12 pro to work? I have it downloaded and I tried to run it from the applications folder but it looks like it hangs completely. I have so far only red the readme file and can't see anything there. Maybe I have to go in the manual but I ask here if anyone else tried. I hate when there is no demo of the software. it's bad to spen a lot of euros for something that doesn't work. So I hope there is only me that do something wrong. Hi Anouk. I have also used my mac for around 3 months now, and like you I still use windows for a couple of things. I trying to get the scanning and ocr to work on the mac but for now windows and omnipage have to do the jobb. I had a license for windows xp lying on the shelf from a no longer working laptop and I installed xp with vmware as a virtual machine and doing my scanning there and it works good but the virtual machine is very slow. I also use windows for Echolink, wich is a ham-radio software wich don't exist on the mac. Also the software to setup and program my hamradio stations is only windows programs. I'm very happy mac user now and after some updates to snow leopard my problems with it is gone. I hope the issue with the thumbkey on your display can be solved. I have same issue with alva satelite. I also have a battle with EyeTV software wich for some odd reason doesn't find my tv channels on the cable network. And it is also very tricky to use with VO. I use VLC for webradio and movies and it works great (vlc version 1.x doesn't work under windows and linux at all with screenreader, only on mac, great!). And I also like the speed, starting my windows pc here at works take forever and the mac is at the desktop in almost 0 time. And, the sleep works well too. So I'm happy with my mac system. Hi again. Wow. Echomac, never heard of it but when I google it I found http://echomac.sourceforge.net/ I'll try it when I'm back home from work. Anouk, I had a fire dtv reciever and used it with dvb viewer on windows and Eye tv have driver for it so I gave it a try but it doesn't work as I want at the moment. I have readiris on the disk and I'm going to try it out and see how it works with swedish language and so on. I have heard of some broadcast tools for mac but at the moment I haven't looked in to it. I don't broadcast at the moment so it doesn't have so high priority. I still have my studio pc sitting under the desk so I can use stationplaylist and all the broadcast stuff if I want to. speeding up finder
Hi all Is there any tips on how to speed up finder or is it any better file manager out there. I try to go to my music folder that contains about 4 songs and finder go to the folder and almost sitting on the first item and saying busy for about 20 minutes or so. If I move the vo cursor regardless if I have cursortracking on or off it goes busy again for another 20 minutes. This is not acceptable. Even nautilus in gnome deskotp works better and also virus vista. I discovered that today when I wanted to copy a music folder with a album in it to a memory card and almost gave up. I tried to turn of as many things as possible that I think can slow the browsing down. Any tips is welcome. Hi Howard. My system is a mac book 13 with 2 gb ram and cpu at 2,13 ghz. runns smoothly on other tasks and browsing folders with finder but just that big music folder with finder gets it busy. In Itunes it works ok but I just wanted to copy a folder out from the big music folder with finder and then discovered this "busy" thing. I red somewhere that you can switch off calculation of mapp sizes but I can't find that so maybe that was in earlier version of the o s. Hi. Spottify is completely useless on the mac platform. the only thing you see with v o is the searchfield. They don't answer mail to the support. Xmarks works fine. the installation is no problem and it syncs your bookmarks fine. The only problem I have with it is the menu in the menubar that v o don't find. I can locate it with the mousepointer and click on it and then v o reads it fine. Also the settings dialog is little complicated with v o. But the standard settings works fine. Good luck. Hi. The only thing I have problem with is when a website pops up a dialog for example confirm something. My readynas have those dialogs in its webbinterface. If such dialog pops up v o hangs completely. It also happens when you have to confirm a safari extension installation such as 1password. this is also reported to apple but no confirmation from them yet. HI Annie, robert and all. I have found a workaround for adjusting the volume in radioshift. If you stop interacting with any program control and go with the v o cursor to the top of the window you have a unlabled button. Press the tab-key here a few times takes you to the volume slider and you can adjust it with left and right arrowkeys. Hope this helps. Hi all How on earth can I create groups in adressbook? The problem I have is when I created the group from the file menu the name is untitled and I can not get it to change to for example Work. changeing speed in growl speech notifications
Hi all. I use speech profile in growl for the growl-messages. It works perfect but I wonder if anyone knows how to change the speed of the speech. Hi. I had the same experience with xp and fusion. I added more ram to my m b so it now have 4 gb and both fusion and all other tasks on the mac runs like a charm. Fast and very responsive. So my recomendation is to add more ram ta your machine. I haven't tried w7 due to I can't get the thing to install at all, so I through it on the shelf again and using xp the few times I need windows. creating website with v o
Hi Folks. I'm thinking of creating a new website for a little project. I tried iweb but it wasn't very accessible to start with. I can't for example not see wich design to select at the first stage when crating a new site. Have anyone out there any tips for using iweb, or recommendation for software to create webpages without hacking html code? questions regarding safari and vo
Hi all. I'm new to this world of mac, and I like it a lot. Have played with my macbook for a week now and so far I'm happy with it. There are a few things I want to ask about regarding safari and vo. 1 I went to apple online shop to order upgrade program for snow leopard. Everything went ok until my shopping cart show up and it was emty. The site said that I need to have cookies enabled so I went to preferences in safari and cookies was enabled. Tried again with same result. I tried a few times before I gave up and went online on my windows box and placed the order there, and it worked. Something must have happend anyway on the mac because I ended up with 7 copies in the cart. I changed to 1 and placed the order. What can be the problem here? Any ideas? Why didn't it work with safari and vo? That was question one. Now to question two: I use bloglines to read my rss feeds and it works fine on linux and windows but on mac with safari and vo it behaves little strange. I select for example all about symbian to read the rss feed, I go to the first heading and it says the title all about symbian correct. Next heading is the description of the feed and it also work fine. But here with the headings for each newsstory don't tell me the title for the story, it only sais "site: all about symbian". And so on for all newsstories in the feed. Why on earth and how can I fix that? It works fine on linux and windows. So, the last question for this time, On for example lioncourt.com and some other blogs vo says "permalink" before the title of the articles on the site. It's not a big issue but I wonder if thats correct or if something can be done to get rid of this. I use the latest software updates on my system. So thats all for me at the moment. braille tables
Hi all. Does anyone here know if there is a swedish braille table available somewhere? And can I disable contracted braille forever? I don't like that I have to switch it off all times I start vo. antivirus software on mac
Hi all. Comming from the world of viruses, wich means windows, I wonder if I need antivirus software on macs and if so, wich one do you recommend out there? I know that linux is very safe itself from viruses and other bad stuff and I also think mac is the same. But I ask anyway if anyone know about good accessible antivirus software if I need one. New ipad user, need some app suggestions
Hi all. I ordered an iPad to myself for my birthday and it is a iPad 1, didn't see anything in the ipad 2 that I need at the moment. Ok, I loaded it with a lot of apps and to my surprise the apps that works on the iPhone isn't accessible at all with the iPad version. One example is tweetter app wich is useable on iPhone but completely inaccessible on iPad. I thought that if a software works on one ios device it would work on another also with the specific app for the device. but I learned it the hard way that isn't so. So I need some suggestions here for a couple of apps. Twitter, what is the best app for that on ipad. Rss, I use feeds for iphone at the moment but any other tips for apps that syncs with google reader on ipad is welcome. Is it worth it to get pages for iPad? I think it's all for now. Maybe I'll be back again with more ipad questions later when I get more used to the device. There is also a table wich I think includes categories of for example artists but there is only "unknown" items in that table. If I select a song and in the context menu select "load on table 1" I can't get it to play from table 1. Maybe that's not v o issues but the man behind the keyboard thats the problem :). I'm going to try it more later. So maybe it works better with the controler you are about to try. Good luck with your new gadgets. I have done it from the screen and when I done it on one app I want to close I can use the v o commands on the keyboard to navigate to next app and hit v o + space to close it. I have ipad 1 and the keyboard dock to it. But I almost use a bluetooth keyboard. Reason is that apples original cover for the ipad 1 is making the unit to large to fit into the connector on the keyboard dock. I think the ipad 2 with smartcover works better together with keyboard docs. Hi Kevin I made a quick test this morning with my canon lide 100 and it worked. Now it is intresting to see if it can make something readable out of swedish text. If so I deffently gonna buy this. Re: Thinking of getting a server for the home.
Hi. I don't use servers at home. For my storage needs I use a netgear readynas duo and it works perfect both on mac and windowsenvironment. To get best performance with the mac you need to turn on AFP sharing protocol. You can also install a addon on the readynas and a little program on your computer and with this setup you can access your files when you are on the go. You also have the Drobo fs box but it is a lot more expensive then the readynas. Drobo fs have space for up to 5 hardrives and the readynas duo have two so if you are thinking of high data security the drobo is a fine alternative. when it uses all the drives in a raid array. the Duo only mirrors the two drives but it is good security. I have all my files on one share and the itunes library on another share on the duo and it works fine on my machines. I think thats the simplest way to fix storage at home if you don't need other features that a server can do. I earlier played a lot with linux server software but now I only use the NAS device. I forgot to say that the webbased controlpanel on the duo works fine with v o. Regards Tony. problem with international braille tables
Hi all. I have lost my swedish brailletable on the mac. I was in the dialog "special characters" and look around and after that v o don't see the swedish table at all. I have reinstalled the package but no table show up. What have I done wrong here and how can I fix that? I didn't think that the special characters dialog do something if you only look what it is. Recording system audio and microphone with audio hijack pro
Hi all I'm looking for instructions how to set up hijack pro to record both microphone and system audio. I can record mic and system audio separatly but not at same time. Does anyone have any instructions how to do this or any link to any descriptions. I have looked in the manual but there is only instructions for setting up itunes to play music together with your microphone. I tried that mixer but couldn't find anything related to system audio. Hi Andrew. Got the same issue on my iPhone I'm using at work. Solution that worked for me was open settings and then go to store and check your apple id so there is the one you used when you purchaed the apps. If not, enter it and then go to appstore and do a check for uppdates. That solved my issue.
