Creating Itunes smart playlists

2019-05-24 Thread 'Graham Roby' via MacVisionaries
Hi,
I have several playlists such as sixties/seventies/eighties etc. Can anyone
advise me how to make a smart playlist that tells Itunes to exclude any
song that it has played from any of these playlists in the past
fortnight/month etc so I don't get so many track repeats?

Many thanks in advance for any advice given.

Best

Graham

Mac mail issue under Yosemite

2015-07-14 Thread 'Graham' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I’m encountering an odd issue in Apple Mail.

When I go in to the mail program, I keep getting the odd msg that I’ve deleted
over and over again. Its always the same few msgs that seem to be determined
not to be deleted.
Has anyone else come across this issue and did you sort the issue? if so how?

Thanks in advance for any help thrown my way.

Pages and document creation

2015-07-12 Thread 'Graham' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I began looking at using Pages yesterday. Having selected a blank document from
the template chooser, I was able to change font, style, type size, insert a
table, ad and delete rows and columns etc.
So I wrote a few lines, then inserted a table and entered text as I would with
MS Word. However what I can’t figure out and I feel stupid for asking as its
likely to be something so simple, how do I get out of the table and back to
writing my document. I did try inserting a section break and that now lands me
on a second page rather than on page 1 under the table.
Also when I vo left at the top of this second page at the start of the
sentence, I’m taken back to the top of the whole document.

Can anyone throw a couple of tips my way on where I’m going wrong?

Thanks

Graham

Glances in Apple Watch

2015-06-28 Thread 'Graham' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Sorry if this has already been covered before.
Yesterday I bit the bullet and bought the Apple Watch 38mm edition. So far I’m
really enjoying it.
However there is a small issue I’m encountering which could be me an inherent
fault or Vo problem.
When I go to glances, when I do the two finger swipe left or right gesture it
very rarely works. I can get round this by doing the one finger swipe up or
down to next or previous glance so its not a game changer.
Just wondered has anyone else come across this problem?
Fyi, I have updated the watch to the latest IOS version 1.1 via my iPhone.

Thanks for any help or advice received.

Warm regards

Graham

So does anyone know how I can successfully go about editing the

Any help/information anyone could give on this would be most gratefully

Re: I'm not disappointed but am looking forward.

2015-04-11 Thread Graham
Hi,

I also visited my local Apple store in Liverpool today to see the new watch.
I normally wear a Seiko braille watch and I am also lucky enough to own a Tisot
 vibrating watch.
The Apple watch is significantly lighter than my Tisot watch and around the
same as the Seiko.
It isn't that much bigger than the Seiko but is smaller than the Tisot.
I have to say on first impression I was impressed, more than I was expecting to
be.
I liked the Apple watch version with the Melanese strap preffering this to the
link version which costs a good deal more.
I don't know how much it will do for my life to be honest but I'm looking
forward to finding out.
One thing I can say it will be great to have a watch that my sighted piers
might actually want to own as well as a watch that can do all the things that
theirs have been able to do in various ways for years.
Oh and it was very comfortable to wear and as someone who is very keen on
fashion I shall not have any worries about being seen with it.

Kind regards

Graham

 Hello.

Just got back from the Apple store, after a Taxi ride, train ride and a 45
 minute walk.

So the representative took me to the table and bought the selection of
 watches to me.

Before I felt the watches, I asked him if he could enable voice over for me.
He told me that all the watches were demos and there was a set demo program.
He said that Accessibility was not on these watches. When I asked him why,
he said he could not tell me.

So first of all, I took the silver sports watch in my hand. The watch was
very light. In fact, it felt like a normal sighted watch, something that a
woman would wear. The 38 Millimetre watches are for women. I thought it
very elegant and for the fact that I could remove the straps myself without
having to go to a jewellers was a plus for me. If a strap was broken for
instance, you'd pay at least £3.99 to get another strap. I also felt the
melanese bracelet. I asked if one could buy the bracelet if you had a sports
watch and they said yes. I then felt all the straps and the stainless steal
watch. That I thought was definitely for a man as it was heavier and
thicker. The person told me that it was thicker because of the crystal
 saffire glass.

My only disappointment was that I could not hear voice over.

The person who said that the steal watch felt like a toffee, I could
understand that and I'd not go for that model.

I'm going to purchase the Silver sports watch along with the Bracelet.

For those of you who are not in favour of the watches, do not have to buy. I
know someone who said to me that they were not going to buy the watch, but
low and behold, is getting the watch now. I knew he would.

Now I've seen the watch, I'm looking forward to mine.

I'm not mad on Apple products but like Apple because of the accessibility
built in. If I were sighted, I'd have a choice of what I could have as my
gadgets but for the fact, I am limited as to what I can have, i.e. a Braille
watch, or a normal conventional talking watch. I had a Braille watch for
than 20 years but they would always go wrong, perhaps because of my hair or
 my dog's hair, I don't know.

I hate the conventional speaking watch because of the voices. If Alex is on
my Apple watch then I'll be pleased.

Just one more thing to ponder, can you pair a braille display as the watch
 has bluetooth!

 Kawal.

iTunes disc access issues

2015-01-31 Thread Graham Roby
Hi,

I recently purchased a new Macbook Pro from Ebay. I migrated all the
information across from my Time Capsule which appeared to go wel.

However when I try to import new songs from an external drive in to my iTunes
using comd o I get the following error
Attempting to copy to the disk “Macbook HD” failed. You do not have enough
access privileges for this operation.

Now I am the administrator and as far as I can tell I have read-write privileges
so I don’t understand what is going on here. Can anyone give me a bit of
advice?
Also, in my old iTunes I had several backups of my iPhone and iPad, these don’t
appear to have been transferred

Do they show up once you plug your device in when it can see its name?

I’m using iTunes 11 under Mavericks 10.9.5 with a Macbook Pro July 2014 with
16gb of ram if that helps.
Thanks for any help offered in advance.

Struggling with new iTunes Interface

2013-04-22 Thread Graham Roby
Hi Esther,

Big thanks for your help. Worked like a charm. Pity to get it to work I've had
to revert back to the old look.
I could make things work with the new look but god it was slow and cumbersome
compared to how it used to be.

As ever all the best

Struggling with the new iTunes interface

2013-04-21 Thread Graham Roby
Hi,

Ever since I installed the new iTunes I've had loads of problems with it.

Adding tracks to Playlists
In the old version I found my song in the library, pressed vo shift m, arrowed
down to or typed a to get to ad to playlist sub menu and then scrolled to the
list I wanted, pressed enter and bingo, the track was added.
Now this doesn't happen. I'm finding the song, going through the steps outlined
above but when I've pressed enter on the playlist I want to add the song to I
have to do command c, then go to the required playlist before pressing command
v to drop the song in to that list.

Also if I type in an artist in to the search box, and that artis has 6 albums,
moving between the different albums is problematical. If I do get to the right
album and find its tracks, pressing enter on the track I've chosen does't play
it.

Is there a setting I need to change to make things clearer?

Hope this makes sense to some of you.

Best

Graham

Itunes Wifi Sync

2013-03-07 Thread Graham Roby
Hi,

Since upgrading to Itunes 11.02, Neither my iPhone or iPad automatically
connect to iTunes via wifi when I launch the program.

This is despite wifi sync being enabled and under devices preferences me having
the don't allow iPods/Ipads/Iphones connect to this computer unchecked.

Has anyone else come across this issue since the update and is there a
solution?

Kind regards

Advice on using Lion DiskMaker to make a bootable Mountain Lion drive

2012-08-26 Thread Graham Roby
Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
I first downloaded Lion DiskMaker 1.5, then downloaded the ML installation file
from the app store.
When I got the prompt to continue the installation of Mountain Lion, I force
quit the install and ran Lion DiskMaker having checked that the ML application
was in my apps folder.
After waiting what seemed an age Lion DiskMaker reported it couldn't find the
ML install file. I then pointed it right to the file but it again reported that
it couldn't get the name install OS X Mountain Lion.
Has anyone any ideas what's going on here?

Also can I make a bootable DVD rather than USB drive as currently I have none
but quite a few 9gb DVD's?

Many thanks for any help or advice offered.

Wifi printers

2012-04-23 Thread Graham Roby
Hi Kawal,

I had a HP photo c309a. It worked on the Mac side and under XP however when I
tried using it with Windows7 64bit under Bootcamp I couldn't install the
software. Even HP gave it up as a bad job blaming Apple.

I now have an Epson px535w all in One which isn't touch screen and it works
like a dream both on the Mac and for Windows via Bootcamp.

Wifi sync issues

2012-03-26 Thread Graham Roby
Hi Rick,

If I restart my wifi network then as a rule I can see at least two of my
Idevices in the source list of Itunes.

Otherwise to transfer podcasts or music I have to hard wire the Idevice to my
Macbook Pro.

This has only just started to happen since upgrading to the latest v of Itunes.

Anyone else having problems receiving digest emails from the group

2012-01-29 Thread Graham Roby
Hi,

For the past week I don't appear to have been receiving digest email from the
group.
I've checked my spam folder and they haven't gone there. I've also looked at my
mail account online to make sure its not something that could be happening with
Apple mail but nothing is showing up under my virginmedia.com mail run through
google.
If I switch to receive all messages everything works fine.

Has anyone any ideas or is there a problem I've missed?

Kind regards to all

Searching through digest mail

2011-10-22 Thread Graham Roby
Hi,

Until yesterday when I received messages as a digest, I could quickly flick
from topic to topic by typing topic in the search field then hitting vo-g to go
to the next occurrence of the word.
The word topic now appears to have been removed from the start of each subject
under discussion.
Can anyone suggest an equally or even easier way of moving from topic to topic
without having to actually type the subject being discussed each time?

Kind regards

Streaming radio programs from the BBC website

What now happens when I click on a program, or press enter on the link which

there are flash links but when I press vo-shift-spacebar, nothing happens. If I

Trying to install a HP all in one printer under Bootcamp running Windows7

2011-08-21 Thread Graham Roby
Hi,

If this is off topic, then I apologise up front but thought one of you mega
people might be able to help with this.

I'm trying to install my HP c309a all in one printer/scanner/fax software under
bootcamp in to a Windows7 64 bit installation.

When I run the install cd or the setup from the latest download from HP's
website I get the following error message.

This computer does not have the necessary USB hardware support to enabled to
allow completion of a usb installation.
The installation cannot continue until this is resolved.
In order to install this as a usb device, please refer to your computer
documentation, or usb ad in card documentation for more information.

If your sure your computer has the physical usb connectors, refer to your
computers documentation about how to enable usb in the bios.

As far as I understand it under Bootcamp there isn't a bios.
I'm running a Macbook pro 2010 model.

This ran perfectly under bootcamp running XP pro on my old Macbook. I was
hoping when I started the install I'd be asked the type of installation I
preferred such as wifi but not a chance.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what I could try?

Sorry this is rather a long post.

Kind regards

Graham

Questions about cursoring

2011-08-07 Thread Graham Roby
Hi,

Often when I'm reading posts on here on how to do various things, I see the

Now I have my mouse cursor set to track the vo cursor.
What I'd like to know is what are the advantages/disadvantages to using this

Also how do you move around the screen with just your mouse cursor in a similar
way to how its possible in Jaws/Widnow Eyes on the dark side?

Upgrading from a white Macbook to a Macbook Pro

2011-07-29 Thread Graham Roby
 Hi,

I am about to upgrade from a White Macbook to a Macbook Pro 2010 model. both
 machines are running Snow Leopard.

I have a ccc clone of the White Macbook's hd on an external drive along with
time machine backups on my tc.

I would like to know is it possible to boot straight in to my cloned drive of
the White Macbook and from there get ccc to clone my new Macbook Pro's HD so
I have everything as it was on my White Macbook?

Also if I used Migration assistant are there any advantages and would this
copy everything across from my old machine to the new one including Itunes
 email etc?

Lastly I read somewhere you need to de register your old computer from the
Itunes Store before setting up the new one. How do you go about this.

Sorry for all the q's its something I've never done before so want to get it
 right.

 Kind regards

Putting the documents folder back on the Dock

2010-10-19 Thread Graham Roby
Hi,

I'm trying to put my documents folder back on the dock.

Under Leopard after help from the group I did this by downloading the put on
doc package from Tim Kilburns Website and all was good to go.

Now using Snow Leopard I installed the ad item to dock dmg file with no issues
then tried running the Automator send to dock script.
Automator opened but under the file menu I couldn't find any option to save as
plug in or an option to save the file to the finder. I could save to my tc/ext
hd or normal hard drive applications etc.

Does anyone have any ideas where I could be going wrong here or is it simply
under sl you don't need this Put On Dock package and there is another way to ad
my documents folder to my dock?

Many thanks in advance for any help offered.

Kind regards

Programs for tagging MP3's

2010-08-24 Thread Graham
Hi,

Using Windows I have a program called MP3 tag, which will fill in missing tags.
For example, if I have an album lets say by Muse called the Resistance and the
tags are missing, you can get the program to search a number of online
databases such as Amazon.
Once you've verified its found the correct album it will then fill in the track
info, time year etc so its good to import in to Itunes.
I can manually do this in Itunes of course but typing the track names etc is
somewhat time consuming.
I bought ID3 editor for the Mac but this seems only to offer a manual data
entry with no access to an online database which it can fill in the track info
as described above.
In a way similar to Itunes.

Has anyone come across a program similar to MP3 Tag used in Windows that offers
the same functionality for the Mac?

Kind regards

Creating and Naming groups in Apple mail

2010-08-08 Thread Graham
Hi,

Today I created a new group in mail.
Its called the default name of untitled.

How can you rename this to something more meaningful?
I tried the rename option under edit but this didn't appear to offer me any
sort of edit field to make the change.

On a slightly different but related topic, once I finally get this group named
correctly, can I just copy and paste the contacts I want in to it from the main
address book?

Many thanks in advance for any help received.

Bootcamp questions

2010-06-08 Thread Graham
Hi,

A friend and I tried installing Windows XP via bootcamp.
We made the partition, all seemed to go well.
In the pdf instructions it said we'd need the bootcamp drivers off the Mac os
10.6 disk.
However there doesn't seem to be any.
We ran the Windows install and again all went well as XP seemed to have loaded.
However there was no sound.

We rebooted the Mac but we can't see anything that says boot in to Windows.
We can see the partition which shows as unknown volume.
I then downloaded the Bootcamp 3.1.exe file from apple support but I'm unsure
where exactly this is supposed to be installed.

Can anyone help.
Hope the above makes sense been a long evening :-)

Kind regards

Time Capsule problem

2010-05-04 Thread graham
Hi,

I use a Time Capsule which both my Macbook 13 inch and Windows machine connect
to the internet through, as well as for backup purposes.
As of yesterday for some reason I can no longer do this.
On the Mac side the diagnostics in network preferences says I'm not using a
valid ip address, while on the windows side I'm getting a bias error message
53.

I've not altered any setting on either machine so don't know why this has
occured.

Has anyone any ideas of how I can fix this?

Many thanks in advance for any help or advice offered.

Itunes

2010-03-31 Thread graham
Hi,

Having just installed the latest version of Itunes unfortunately without seeing
the previous messages today I have found my music somewhat difficult to access.

If I type in the artist name such as Genesis, then tab I go directly to the
playlist browser, then tabbing again takes me to the artist field and again
takes me to the album field.
If I then arrow down I can read the various albums however if I either tab or
press vo right arrow to go in to the songs table for the album selected, Itunes
crashes.
If I type in the artist such as Genesis then vo left arrow I can get to the
songs table no problem but you can't vo left again as this also crashes Itunes.
I also left the search field blank and pressed vo right arrow from the sources
table to the songs table where I'd normally get a list of all my music but
again this resulted in Itunes crashing.
I have tried disc repair with no joy.
For my sins I'm using a Macbook 13 inch with 4gb of ram.
Hope this info will help someone figure what the issues might be.

If anyone knows of a way to roll back Itunes to the previous version I'd love
to hear how.

Kind regards

Importing in to Itunes issue

2009-12-17 Thread graham
Hi,

When I import songs in to my Itunes library from a cd, every second disc or so
after being prompted if I want to import the cd, and clicking yes, the disc
spins up, and I land back on the music sources table.
Nothing then happens the disc spins down and the only way I can eject the disc
to try again is to reboot my Macbook, go back in to Itunes and hit command-e.

I can't even find the cd volume in finder to try and eject it from there.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

Also now and then I'm asked where do I want to store my imported music. now I
only have one Itunes library stored under music/itunes/itunes music. It just
seems a bit odd why I should get prompted for this info.

Can anyone please advise what's going on.

Kind regards

Graham

Moving aps round the Ipod Touch

2009-12-10 Thread graham
Hi,

I want to move some aps on my Ipod touch.

I double tap and hold my finger on the Icon to be moved and hear the three
tones.
By sliding my finger slowly Voiceover announces the screen position the ap is
currently on so i know where to drop it.
However I can't figure out how for example to move the maps ap from page one
across to page two. do you still use the three finger swipe to change the page
whilst holding your finger on the ap to be moved kind of?

Any advice gratefully received.

Best

Readind pdf documents in Snow leopard

2009-10-25 Thread graham
Hi,

Since I installed SL on to my Macbook, I've struggled reading pds such as the
take control books etc.

I used to have preview set up to read single page continuous however since I
installed Snow Leopard this doesn't appear to be an option because as soon as I
try interacting with the book I'm taken back to the start acording to
Voiceover.
Also if I press command option g, type in the appropiate page number and then
click okay I'm again taken back to the start.
I can get Preview to read in single page view though this is slow and if the
subject you want to read about goes over two pages its a pain to keep reading
from the top of the previous page down to where your subject starts, continue
to the bottom of that page, stop interacting, move across to the outline view,
arrow down to the next subject and then vo left arrow to the top of the next
page if you follow me.
I've also tried Skim and am finding this application equally problamatical.

Has anyone a tip I can follow so as I can read the document continuously or is
there a setting I can alter to resolve this?
Lastly, is there any better aps around for reading pdf's?

Many thanks in advance for any help received.

Kind regards

Graham

Podcasts disappearing from my Ipod

2009-10-09 Thread graham

Hi,
When I connect my Ipod Touch and sync to Itunes, quite often the
podcasts on the player disappear.

I have my Itunes set to keep the last three podcasts. I can get them
back by vo shift m on the podcast in the songs table, resetting it and
putting it back to unplayed.

Has anyone any ideas what is causing this or what I'm doing wrong?

Kind regards

Graham

Itunes/Time Capsule permissions

2009-09-18 Thread graham
Hi,

I'm trying to run Itunes from my Time Capsule so as not to clog my Macbook's hd
up with loads of music.

I read on one of the mac forhams that to do this I need to copy my Itunes
library to my Time Capsule, then create an alias, move that back to the
original location and make sure the word alias doesn't appear in the file name
and all will work fine and dandy.
So i tried copyng my Itunes library to the Time Capsule and low and behold I
get a message to say I don't have permision to do this.
I'm logged on to the Mac as the administrator so thought this was unusual.
I then did vo shift m, arrowed to get info, moved to the sharing tab and tried
to give myself permision under my user name of Graham Roby and keep getting the
message this name is not valid.

Can anyone please give me any pointers as to where I'm going wrong?

Many thanks for any advice in advance.

Kind regards

Time capsule

2009-09-11 Thread graham
Hi,

I have just bought Time Capsule and started setting up.

Time machine has found TC and backs up no problem.
However should I be seeing Time capsule in my finder as a volume so I can get
in to it and go through its file structures etc.

I also want to run my Itunes library from Time Capsule so as not to clutter up
my hard drive with loads of music.
I've went in to Itunes 9 preffs advanced and tried to get Itunes to put my
library on TC.
However when ever I click on to Time papsule in the list of places I can store
my library once i tab away and come back again the selection has reverted back
to my Mac HD.

Can anyone offer me any advice/help?

Best

Graham
