Just to offer another option, one does not have to purchase a new TV to be
able to use the Apple TV. One can simply purchase an HDMI to standard video
convertor. It is a small box which contains an HDMI input and RCA type
output jacks and last I checked, sold for somewhere in the $60 range.
Certainly less expensive than buying a new TV.

I meant whatever streaming system they put into play if you don't stream
through your gaming system, if there is one. I'm not sure how that works,
seeing as how I don't use one of the newer gaming systems, so not sure what
they use to stream if someone doesn't own one.
What's involved in purchasing an Apple TV? A friend ofmine told me that
part of the process involves actually having to purchase a whole new Tv unit
if you don't currently own an up-to-date one, which I don't own either,
sense the one I currently have at the moment works fine; aside from that, I
can't remember what he told me about it.

That's amazing, glad you had such a good experience with that. I have a
question I was hoping you or someone else on here could answer though
sense

I don't yet have an acount with them.
Do you absolutely have to have an Apple TV with them in order in order for

the

How do those work, and what exactly are they? I unfortunately don't know much
about things of that nature so would love some more info.
Someone recommended the device that Apple sells to go along with it, which I
can't remember the name of, which apparently has really good sound quality,
which I want, but either which way, the Apple Tv in general, no matter what I
purchase to go along with it is a ways down the road sense I can't afford it
right now.

Hi.

You can find the videos and tv showes on their website, and when you click on
those, it starts to play. But the player which is Microsoft Silver lite is not
accessible at all. So you can't, as far as I know, navigate to the next show if
you're watching a tv show, or fast forward in a movie. But if you only wants to
watch movies from the beginning to the end, it works fine.
If you stop a movie while it's playing, you can choose to watch the movie where
you left it.

I haven't played much around with the ipHone app, but I have an issue where I
can't select a new video to play. When I try to do so, the privious video
starts to play.
YOu can sign up for a 30 day trial, but be aware that if you don't cancel your
subscription, they will automatically take the money next month from your bank
account.

I told them how well Netflix works on the Apple tv, and that's the reason
for I just have paied a new subscription.
I requested audio descriptions as well, since I can't buy that here in
Denmark, and BBC who have audio described movies in their online BBC player
won't let me buy a sucscription, and they even blog all IP addresses outside
the UK, so I have to do that in ileagle ways if I wanna get audio described
 movies and stuff.

The Netflix team told me that they take this accessibility request very
serious, and they will do what they can do to make it all more accessible
for everyone. They said that all accessibility requests from blind and
visually impaired people are very welcome.
So, guys, please, go to netflix.com or whatever the Netflix address is in
your country, and let the team know that we are here, and we want better
accessibility in Netflix, and audio description as well. Netflix is as far
as I know, the biggest online movie streaming service in the world, which
offers their service in most countries in the world. The best and most
exciting thing is that they are so friendly and take the accessibility
requests so seriously. So please, take your time to let our voices heard if
you want better accessibility. Damn I can't keep my arms down. :) I am so
excited for next year and to see what they can come up with.
I hope to hear about your experiences regarding to contacting the team.
 Have an awesome day.

2012-12-05 Thread Phil Halton
That's great, I've also had good communications with Netflix support.
Silverlite was a problem then as it seems to still be now though. That's why
I stream through iTV and don't watch on the computer.

Hi all.

I have just chatted with the Netflix team regarding better accessibility,
and that was an awesome and really exciting experience.
The chat works so amazingly well, so I have never seem anything like this
before. perfectly accessible with VOiceover in Safari.
The whole Netflix team is extremely friendly, and they do care about
accessibility, and take my requests very seriously. I have requested
accessibility when watching movies and tv shows on their website, because
the Microsoft Silver light program is totally inaccessible. I requested
better accessibility on Windows as well, and told them that I find their
website very accessible with all screenreaders.
I reported an issue with their Netflix app for iPhone, where I can't select
a new movie. When I dubble tab on a new video, the previous video I saw just
started to play.
I told them how well Netflix works on the Apple tv, and that's the reason
for I just have paied a new subscription.

Re: Contacting the Netflix team regarding accessibility, I am so excited

2012-12-05 Thread Chris Blouch
So I noticed that the AppleTV has an optical audio output in addition to
the HDMI connector. I don't have one so my info is just from Apple's web
site. So if I did have an AppleTV and only hooked up the audio to my
home theatre setup, would it work? In other words, do I have to use it
with a TV or does it have issues like the MacMini when a monitor is not
connected? Of course, at that point, why not just use a real mac and an
airport express to stream the audio?

What's involved in purchasing an Apple TV? A friend ofmine told me
that part of the process involves actually having to purchase a whole
new Tv unit if you don't currently own an up-to-date one, which I
don't own either, sense the one I currently have at the moment works
fine; aside from that, I can't remember what he told me about it.

I don't yet have an acount with them.
Do you absolutely have to have an Apple TV with them in order in

is the

Yes, you can strictly use the optical audio port, with no HDMI cable connected.
