Your mono tracks might render as stereo if you start adding effects like
a stereo reverb or the like. The "dry" source would start as a mono
track though. Hope it works out for you. Another trick some folks use is
a "click" track which is used to keep the beat between the different
tracks. So you could, for example, record a guitar first with the click
track keeping you on tempo. Then when you go back to add vocals or other
parts you keep the same click track so it all meshes together well.
Other folks like to lay down some drums first to do the same things. Of
course if you record both your vocals and are guitar live at the same
time they should be together :)

I have used a stereo track when recording a piano with two mics. Just
seems to sound better that way. Of course which mics to use and where to
place them is a black art left as fodder for many an audio nerd war.
Even if you were doing a vocal and acoustic guitar recording it wouldn't

Well, depending on how the tool works there is usually a "Pan" setting.
On a mono track it defaults to the middle (equal left and right) but on
a stereo track it defaults to the left being panned full left and the
right is panned full right. So if you can find where the pan setting is
on the right track you might be able to just move it back to middle and
everything will be good.

Re: Amadeus question

2016-01-28 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi, Nektarios,

Thanks for the help and for sending your Skype contact. My interface does have
two channels, I had the mic on channel 1. I had an idea about what the problem
may be, but I probably can't get back to messing with this till the weekend.
Let me play around a bit more, and if I have no luck, I'll Skype you.

Again, thanks for everything!
Take care,
Donna

What kind of interface did you get?
Your interface should have at least 2 channels.
Which channel is your mic connected on?

Sorry, I don't mean to be dense, but this still doesn't make sense. I
understand the difference between stereo and mono. I have the interface
connected to my Mac, and the mic connected to the interface. I cannot record
on the interface without a mic, so I'm having trouble seeing the distinction

Re: Amadeus question

2016-01-28 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello.
So we have two types of tracks. A mono track and a stereo track.
What distinguishes a mono from a stereo track is how many channels is using.
When stereo you use 2 channels. So if you have an audio interface connected you
will be using channels 1 and 2 to record in stereo.
On the other hand, if you are recording in mono, using a mic for example, you
will only be using 1 channel for this. So even if you are recording music with
your mic it will be mono because you are only using one channel.

Hi Donna.
Since you are recording a mic source, you need to set this to mono.
You set this to stereo only if you are recording music or other stereo source
such as piano or other type of music.

Ok understand that.
However as I said, the microphone is a mono source.
So you have your voice on one mono track, your music on another stereo track
etc. Then you want to mix those tracks together for the end result.

Nektarios.

Question. Are you using the latest version? In that version, this should not
be happening. In older versions, if you pressed the up or down arrow key by
itself, you could thereby directly control which stereo channel you were
working with. Every time you opened a new project, you defaulted to working
with both channels. Try this.

1. Open a new project. Press CMD+r to record. Now, look close to the right
side edge. There's a button called "play through". As it's name implies, this
will allow you to activally monitor exactly what it is you are recording.
Press this button. Better have headphones on before you do this. IF your
signal is as you describe, you can then doctor it on the spot until it's
correct.

I'd examine all my plugs and make sure everything is firmly and correctly
connected to your system.

HTH.

source (the mic) onto a stereo track, making the mic just the right
track and silence on the left.

Hi all,

OK, so I've finally gotten the mic and interface to work. I have a couple of
questions:

1. At this point, my recordings are only coming out of the right channel. How
do I fix this so they record in stereo? In Prefs, it is already set to Stereo.

2. Do I have to go into System Prefs, change the Input and output settings
every time I want to record, and then go back in and change them back when I'm
done? It seems like there should be an easier way to default to the MBA's
internal speakers.

Re: Amadeus question: end of file command

2015-01-20 Thread Phil Halton
I’m thinking of buying amadeus Pro and am wondering, isn’t there a help file
that gives the various keystrokes for amadeus? I ask because there seems to be
a lot of inquiries about keystrokes for the app. it seems to me there should be
menu items for these functions and a help system that also gives this info?

 Hi Cody,

SUre thing. I'm new to Amadeus and the Mac so you're dealing with a real
beginner here as far as that goes. To mark selections do the following
first, it will help trust me. Press VO F5 then press command VO F5 and
finally shift VO space. This will place the VoiceOver cursor and mouse
cursor in the same place. For some reason unknown to me, the cursor loses
focus in Amadeus. Without this being done first, marking, deleting,
rewinding and fastforwarding are virtually impossible.
Also before I forget to tell you, the rewind and fastforward functions
have been changed. Rewind is command option left arrow and fastforward is
command option right arrow. To increase in pitch is command option up
arrow, to decrease is command option down arrow.

To mark selections you can either hit command shift M or my favorite way
learned from Erik Caron on Blind Cool Tech is just to hit P as in Paul. To
fade in or out I go through this in my podcast on Amadeus, but I'll tell
you just mark the points you want the fade to start and end. Then hit
option left arrow to place yourself at the starting point of your fade and
go to the fade submenu within the effects menu. Oh, if you want a gradual
fade out, go in to settings under fade and set it to quadratic and the
time for 4.3 seconds. I hope this helps.

Have a great day and I'd love to hear your podcast.

Hi,
In order to copy between the two markers, you go to your first marker and hit
command-right arrow with quicknav off. This will select the stuff between the
two markers. You could also start at the final marker and hit command-left
arrow. Then you can do whatever you wish with that audio.
Hope that helps.

 Hi Alison!

Thanks a million for the help, although that kind of wont' work regarding
tyhose commands because everytime I open amadeus, it wants to install the
update 1.5.1 but for some reason everytime I want it to install it juts
closes and it never installs so I'm still running 1.4.4. if I could get
this thing to install I'd be very happy. I wonder where it downlaods the
update to? anyone have any ideas? this way I could just use the downloaded
update to install rather than download the entire copy again.

Also I think one of your issues have the keyboard focus jump is because if
you are using the quick nav feature in voiceover, that tends to drag the
mouse and keyboard focus all over the place by default unless you've
changed it. So let me know how I can fix this so that I can get recording!

Hi Cody,

I am not sure how to copy between the two markers. Maybe getting to where you
want the copying to start and hitting command C?

thought of that though. THat it would jump the focus around. Hmm, I wish I

2010-06-24 Thread Cody Hurst
Hi Alison!

Thanks a million for the help, although that kind of wont' work regarding
tyhose commands because everytime I open amadeus, it wants to install the
update 1.5.1 but for some reason everytime I want it to install it juts closes
and it never installs so I'm still running 1.4.4. if I could get this thing to
install I'd be very happy. I wonder where it downlaods the update to? anyone
have any ideas? this way I could just use the downloaded update to install
rather than download the entire copy again.

Also I think one of your issues have the keyboard focus jump is because if you
are using the quick nav feature in voiceover, that tends to drag the mouse and
keyboard focus all over the place by default unless you've changed it. So let
me know how I can fix this so that I can get recording!

SUre thing. I'm new to Amadeus and the Mac so you're dealing with a real
beginner here as far as that goes. To mark selections do the following first,
it will help trust me. Press VO F5 then press command VO F5 and finally shift
VO space. This will place the VoiceOver cursor and mouse cursor in the same
place. For some reason unknown to me, the cursor loses focus in Amadeus.
Without this being done first, marking, deleting, rewinding and fastforwarding
are virtually impossible.
Also before I forget to tell you, the rewind and fastforward functions have
been changed. Rewind is command option left arrow and fastforward is command
option right arrow. To increase in pitch is command option up arrow, to
decrease is command option down arrow.

To mark selections you can either hit command shift M or my favorite way
learned from Erik Caron on Blind Cool Tech is just to hit P as in Paul. To fade
in or out I go through this in my podcast on Amadeus, but I'll tell you just
mark the points you want the fade to start and end. Then hit option left arrow
to place yourself at the starting point of your fade and go to the fade submenu
within the effects menu. Oh, if you want a gradual fade out, go in to settings
under fade and set it to quadratic and the time for 4.3 seconds. I hope this
helps.

Have a great day and I'd love to hear your podcast.

2010-06-23 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi Linda, Sarah and all,

The only way I can figure to export individual tracks to files is to just
uncheck the play box of the track you don't want to play and hit command A and
then command C to copy the selection. I have tried this on a two-track project
and it did work. I unchecked the play box on the guitar track and then exported
the vocals. I hope this helps.

you can't hear the track I'm working on in Amadeus. I didn't realize that
Audio Hijack didn't pick up what Amadeus was playing. I have to check out
the VST reverb plug in, I didn't know about that. To play each track
separately, I'd suggest naming them first. For example if you were to
record guitar on one track, and vocals on another track. Interact with the
scroll area and name the first track, then name the second track. After
you do that you can check or uncheck the play boxes. Let's say you want to
put reverb on the vocals, and not hear the guitar part. You just uncheck
the play box and then only the vocal track will receive the reverb. I have
also discovered a nifty feature called duplicate track. This is done by
hitting command D as in Delta. It works really well for putting guitar on
left and right sides and making a fuller sound. I hope I've helped. I love
Amadeus and I agree with you, an accessible multitrack editor that doesn't
cost thousands yay! Have a great evening.

Re: amadeus question

2010-06-22 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi Chris,

I'm so glad I was able to help you. I'm rerecording my podcast tomorrow as you
can't hear the track I'm working on in Amadeus. I didn't realize that Audio
Hijack didn't pick up what Amadeus was playing. I have to check out the VST
reverb plug in, I didn't know about that. To play each track separately, I'd
suggest naming them first. For example if you were to record guitar on one
track, and vocals on another track. Interact with the scroll area and name the
first track, then name the second track. After you do that you can check or
uncheck the play boxes. Let's say you want to put reverb on the vocals, and not
hear the guitar part. You just uncheck the play box and then only the vocal
track will receive the reverb. I have also discovered a nifty feature called
duplicate track. This is done by hitting command D as in Delta. It works really
well for putting guitar on left and right sides and making a fuller sound. I
hope I've helped. I love Amadeus and I agree with you, an accessible multitrack
editor that doesn't cost thousands yay! Have a great evening.
