I often find that you can give Windows VMs focus if you just turn VO off
temporarily and hit Tab enough times. Once your keyboard is grabbed, you can
turn VO on again, if you like.

Re: Vm fusion question?

2020-09-01 Thread Kliph Senior
Authorizations isn’t the issue. This is a clean install of windows 10pro, and
it won’t even let me type in the box to install jaws or even turn on narrator,
let alone anything else. Have tried multiple times, even with sited help.
Guess I will wipe everything clean, and try again.

Re: Vm fusion question?

2020-08-30 Thread maurice mines
good morning, the best thing I can suggest is that you yes just like the
last poster said do some tabbing around depending on the age of your
machine you can also use the trackpad to try to maximize the window but
maximizing changes with whichever virtual application you are running if
you're running Windows it is probably best to use a single window or
full-screen mode if you have a window screen reader configured and ready
to go.

Passions if you are running Windows, and you're using Jaws for Windows
you should be aware that authorizations can get a little funny in a VM
my strong and for the most emphatic suggestion here is what you get that
program running in your VM and authorized make sure you make a copy of
the virtual machine because you just used one of your license keys they
get real snippy if you use them too much and you cannot tell Vspara tech
support that you're running a virtual machine. They will not support it!
And that they will hang up on you almost immediately. Yes I been
practically screamed out by their staff with "we don't do Mac anything
here take that stinky Mac and go call Apple slam" that's pretty much the
way Nicole goes that you mention the virtual machine. So I'm just
warning you on with everyone else is aware do not mention the virtual
machine to that company.

Now a word about Linux operating systems. The only operating system that
I've seen meaning that is a Linux distribution that seems to work well
in terms of making certain the window is maximized is now gnome which of
course is graphical the next. The version I am running happens to be
Ubentu linux and yes if you would stall orca into this distribution it
sounds like a robot but I guess what you get used to it you can actually
use it. I have debated whether Brltty can also run in a virtual machine.
I'd be curious to know if this is possible.

I hope some of the comments and suggestions might be of some help to
someone.

Please note the above text has been dictated to the computer by means of
dictation software. There may be some text that you may not be able to
understand if it is critical to your understanding of what I've written
above please write me and asked me what my original intent was, I will
do everything I can to clear up any potential misunderstandings based on
what I've written above. Thank you very much for reading this

Sincerely Maurice Mines.

That would be control-command F, but there is also a full screen mode item in
the view menu.
To enable control-left/control-right this is in the Mission Control section of
the keyboard shortcuts of the keyboard system settings.
When you first move into the VM, you have to press a key to enable the VM I
usually press space or delete, but sometimes tab. Then when you need to move
back to Macintosh applications you can press control-command followed by
control-left.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

you should be back in your Windows environment and the keyboard commands will
work for you.

Please, anyone else who uses VMware Fusion, feel free to chime in if you think

When fusion is running, it depends on how you have things setup. But I use
command tab to go between both systems

2016-11-21 Thread Scott Granados
I noticed this as well. It looks like an interesting product and the
installation is very accessible but it all goes sideways once you run the
application for the first time. To bad bu I like fusion well enough so at
least we have a very good option there and virtual box will be the next thing I
experiment with.

When I run fusion and boot a VM, is it control-G that is supposed to
allow me to gain access to the vm interface? I just get a bonk sound
when I press this combo and nothing happens. In most cases, in full
screen mode I can’t enter the VM and in zoom reduced mode I can but by
tabbing past the snapshots button I will drop in to the vm. Is there
a more simple mechanism, do I have the keystroke wrong? Any pointers
 would be most appreciated.

Re: The control-G vm fusion question again

2016-11-18 Thread Garry Turkington
I use Fusion with multiple VMs every day and I don't have an issue
reliably getting input captured by the VM.

What I do is use VO to move right along the buttons on the VM
interface. After the "full screen" button I get the name of the VM
read out and when focus is on that any keystrokes go to the VM which
then captures input. I use this method on both Windows and Linux VMs.

This is on the latest version of Fusion though still on El Kapitan
because I don't have time to work out the whole Seil/Caribener thing
in Sierra yet.

Re: The control-G vm fusion question again

2016-11-17 Thread Scott Granados
It does and I’ll do some googling on the command g feature, maybe I can shed
some light on this by playing with it more myself.

Thanks as always ET.

And good comments from Janina this might be worth some communication with
VMWare once I’m more confident it’s not the user behind my keyboard that’s the
problem.:)

Re: The control-G vm fusion question again

2016-11-17 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
I have never found a reliable way to get into and outof the guest vm.
For me this is a significant frustration.
To
my mind this functionality is a feature we should demand of VMware. I'm
not sure where to file the RFE, but if someone knows or posts one,
please share so that others of us can add our support for the request.

When I get an error stating my disk is nearly full, are they referring to

Re: A VM Fusion question about disks

2014-12-12 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Probably your virtual drive. When you first set up the virtual machine
you tell it how much of your Mac's disk space you will allow it to use.
In any case, you can quickly verify this by doing Get Info (command-I)
from the finder on your Mac's drive to find out how much is left. If you
really are out of room on your virtual machine you'll need to do some
cleanup. I suspect changing the drive size of the virtual machine is a
non-trivial bit of work, as it is on any non-Mac machine.

Re: A VM Fusion question about disks

2014-12-12 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Right, but there is a limit to the expansion. So if you set up a Windows
VM with a 40GB automatically expanding drive Windows will say it's a
40GB drive but on the Mac it might initially only use 10GB. As you add
apps and such it will grow but only up to 40GB. I've never run into this
but I assume Windows will start to complain when you get near the limit.
So how much free space do you currently have on your mac HD?

is left. If you really are out of room on your virtual machine you'll
need to do some cleanup. I suspect changing the drive size of the
virtual machine is a non-trivial bit of work, as it is on any non-Mac
machine.

RE: A VM Fusion question about disks

2014-12-12 Thread Bill Holton
As I recall, if you have the VM sharing, it doesn’t set an upper limit.

Right, but there is a limit to the expansion. So if you set up a Windows VM
with a 40GB automatically expanding drive Windows will say it's a 40GB drive
but on the Mac it might initially only use 10GB. As you add apps and such it
will grow but only up to 40GB. I've never run into this but I assume Windows
will start to complain when you get near the limit. So how much free space do
you currently have on your mac HD?

Re: A VM Fusion question about disks

2014-12-12 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Right. If you map a drive letter to a folder on the Mac side then it's
just a folder that can store up to the available space on your physical
hard drive. I don't usually do that as I'm usually running Windows in my
VM and don't want it infecting my Mac with whatever it might have picked
up from somewhere.

Re: VM Fusion question

It is supposed to grab keyboard automatically. If you can see the toolbar, try
hitting option-tab a few times until you hear wineyes. That usually works for
me. If it doesn't grab, try moving away from the Fusion window with
command-tab and back again. Then retry the option-tab thing again.
You can also try maximizing the window. I think it is control-command-enter.
You can find it in one of the menus to be sure.

Re: VM Fusion question

2013-06-14 Thread Phil Halton
I have a bootcamp partition that is half my hard disk with Mac OSX taking
the other half. I'd like to import the bootcamp into VMWare, but it's too
big. I have a external firewire disk available. How can I go about doing the
import, and then erasing the bootcamp partition once successfully imported?
I'd like to have the VM on my hard disk, not on the external.

Also, do you run into windows and Office authorization problems when
importing, or just when running the bootcamp from within VMWare? Is either
method better/less problematic?

Hi,

One thing you can do is place the machine you are running in full screan
mode and yes my vmware takes over the keyboard when in fockus.

You can also try maximizing the window. I think it is

I've done that. I don't have VoiceOver running at the same time as the

faster without VoiceOver in the background anyway. I'm in fulscreen mode.
When I plug the display in, Windows (7) gives me the error connect sound.
Are there known issues regarding windows running in a virtual environment

was not recognized in the control panel although the drivers were installed
successfully.
Any idea?

I need to control the VM then I turn VoiceOver on to get to the Virtual

Anna

Just a side question regarding vmware tools. I've downloaded vmware
fusion from the internet. Are the mvware tools a part of this
downlload by default, and consequently vmware will install them as
needed during the Windows installation? Or do I need to get vmware
tools as a separate download or disc? I am currently running Windows
on a separate partition under bootcamp but I am planning on importing
this partition into vmware and getting rid of the partition by running
Windows virtually. If anybody can think of any dangers of doing such
an import, do let me know please.

 With best wishes, Simon

vm fusion question

2009-08-22 Thread a radix
Hello, I have heard in a podcast that you can copy over a windows xp
installation from an existing computer into a virtual machine on the macintosh
with fusion. But, my windows xp installation on my pc also has audio and video
drivers installed. Wont this be a problem because I suppose on the mac it would
need different drivers? Also will it copy over other drivers I have installed
on my pc like scanner and printer drivers?
Thanks,
Greetings, Anouk,

Hmmm, that is curious, I have not heard that Anouk and I'm not so sure
that is a good idea in any event. Best to start with a fresh install
of windows. If you install windows as a VM, you can certainly make a
backup of that and just copy it over itself if something becomes hosed.

Hello, yes I guess that might be the best solution too. I just listened to a
podcast about vmware fusion (this is the first time i would be using a virtual
machine), i guess you dont need to download the rea ldrivers for the mac you
are using (the windows side of it) just the vmware tools and then it will work.
Thanks,
Greetings, Anouk,

Re: vm fusion question

2009-08-22 Thread Scott Howell
Correct, because I have found that trying to copy windows from one
machine to another where the hardware is different, generally ends in
disaster. I've tried this and the success was questionable and you
could easily run into issues with the registration keys and other ugly
problems. Just install everything, update, get what you need setup,
back it up, and then if something goes wrong, you can pull out your
backup and be running in no time.
