Re: Auto fill Icloud passwords on Microsoft browser. Is this possible?

2023-06-15 Thread 'Ron S' via MacVisionaries
Jason, it appears your are correct. There is an extension for Edge on Windows
but this won't work on Mac although when I tried it installed I got the
\message indicating the extension was unnecessary to access Icloud passwords
running Edge on Mac.
Thanks Ron.

Re: Writing .iso images to a usb thumb drive in cattleina is this possible?

2020-03-22 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I haven't been following this tread, but dd is a command line tool to do bulk
data copying that is often done at the raw partition level, so is useful for
creating bootable images.
the dd command is still available in Catalina, though I would expect you would
need to make sure that terminal has access to the full disk.

Yeah that’s it,

When you say older machine,
It isn’t one with a dvd drive that you could write the iso to a dvd disk and
then install that way.

Hi,

Correct, the option you are referring to is called DD which is disk image mode.
I am wanting to install fresh on an olderolder machine. This older machine
has mo operating system at the moment. Thanks. I did come across “ß mac

I believe there is a function within linux itself that will allow you to from
the iso create a bootable installer on to a USB device.

I did have one of these a few years back but it was created for me I didn’t do
it myself.

You can also in the same way install linux on to the USB Flash drive so it is
bootable as a fully functioning Usb linux installation.

I’ve got a feeling ubuntu allow this from their image.

Hi,

You are correct in that it will not be bootable when just copied over. Sorry,
making a MacOS installer bootable works for me, but Linux is a different
animal. I'm not sure how it can be done.

Re: Writing .iso images to a usb thumb drive in cattleina is this possible?

2020-03-19 Thread matthew dyer
Tim, I am wanting to make it bootable. Simply copy and pasting will not do
this to my knowledge or am I wrong? For example, I have a linux distribution I
wanna to install on another machine I would need to make it bootable in order
to use it. HTH.

Thanks. I did a bit of googling around and found out how to get what OI needed

BTW, the device was a windows pc not an I device. Thanks again.

Hi,

There's no real need to do anything like that. It is totally possible to share
that WiFi password with any other Apple device. Just make sure that they are
close to each other, and that you're either using the same Apple ID, or have
the other person in your contacts, and the WiFi password can be instantly
shared with the other device without having to share the actual alphanumeric
string. Alternatively, this information is stored in your Keychain, and can be
accessed with a bit of work.

Extracting wifi info from imac to save for record is this possible?

2018-10-13 Thread matthew dyer
Hi all,

I have a question tha is a unusual request. I just got a new computer and need
to get it online. I am wondering if there is a way to view the wifi code of
the wifi network I am currently connected to. It is a very long code. I had
to have someone enter the code for me since it was stored on there phone. I
would like to have it so that I can store it someware and use it to connect the
new laptop to the network. If this is a bit off topic I appolage in advance.
If there is an app that would allow me to do this. Thanks.

Matthew

Use propper Hardware speakers in Bootcamp. Is this possible?

2018-02-24 Thread Gary Price
Hi everyone on here.
This might be beyond the scope of this list, and if it is I do appologise.

I've got Bootcamp all sorted now.
Does anyone know if it's possible to have two different soundcards?

What I'm getting at is I've got some really good speakers from my desktop.
I could use these during Windows setup, but now it's just using the Mac ones
all the time.
Is it possible to enable these?
I can't find any way in the sound options in Windows 10.
I've looked all over the place.

Like I say if no-one can help or if I'm not allowed to ask this I do appologise.

Anyway take care folks.

I went on my desktop running Windows and did some research on the Internet

Creating a new folder, then dragging it into the media library!

Re: Play a folder in VLC on Mac, is this possible?

2017-01-08 Thread Erik Burggraaf
I have not actually owned a mac for a few months now, but this always
worked for me. I stopped upgrading at Yosemity and possibly that makes a
difference. I always used column mode browsing, and maybe it selects
folders in a specific way that vlc needs. You can also try command shift
O. This brings up a more complex media locater dialog with a files and
folders tab that might allow you to play folders if the standard one doesn't.

Best,

Erik

Re: Using a signature in mail from the all signatures table. Is this possible?

2014-06-28 Thread Cheryl Homiak
I've tried unsuccessfully to do this on many occasions! However, I have been
able to copy the text from the signature in all signatures, add signature in
the account I wanted the signature in and paste the text. When all done I just
get rid of the duplicates. Not ideal, I realize, but it works.

2014-06-28 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I've yet to figure out how to do this using VO. In the sighted user world,
they just drag the signature from one table to the other and life is good. VO
doesn't seem to be able to manage that properly. I've worked around it by
copying the text of the specific signature, going back to the All Signatures
table, navigating to my desired account, pressing the Add New Signature button,
pasting the text and giving it a name for the specific Mail account. Certainly
not the most efficient way to work, but it's the best I can offer at this time.

Using a signature in mail from the all signatures table. Is this possible?

2014-06-28 Thread matthew dyer
Hi all,

How do you tell mail to move a signature from the all signatures in apple mail
so that I can use it in one of my accounts. I have a signature that I want to
use for my gmail account. Is it possible to tell mail that you want to use it?
When I try to move it to my gmail account I am unable to do so. If I try to
select from the popup to tell gmail what signature I want to use for my
gmail account, I have no option except none. Do I need to remove the signature
and recreate it or is there another way?

Thanks.

Yes, sometimes being blind is a headache.

It did finally decide to come on, but it looks like some windows things are
missing. Important ones that um let me go to restore change passwords,

I haven't touched that computer in a week and have no clue how or what

You might want to just get all your data off and then reformat using an answer

Yes, sometimes being blind is a headache.

It did finally decide to come on, but it looks like some windows things are
missing. Important ones that um let me go to restore change passwords, updates
and all that.

I haven't touched that computer in a week and have no clue how or what broke.
At least now there is speech, but I have no clue how to fix it.

2013-02-28 Thread Aman Singer
Hi.
If you're not sure what's going on, I have generally found it worth
taking some sort of camera, whether on the iPhone or on Skype, and
calling someone. Point the camera at the screen and have the person
you call tell you what's on the monitor. They may not be able to see
it easily, though I have almost always found that there is no issue in
seeing the text, and it may be too much of a pain to walk through a
fix while pointing a camera at the screen, but the point is just to
see whether it's a quick fix which can be managed remotely or if
there's something more serious wrong. This is one of those things that
I really hate about being blind around most computers, there's
sometimes no way to distinguish between the volume being muted and the
hard drive no longer reading. That is, every event that causes trouble
on boot is a major event, no matter if it's really quite easy to fix.

I keep around for the process. If you are in ontario, let me know and i'll

Otherwise, you can buy the cable for $25 in a canada computers, and you can buy
security software that is up to the clean-up, and assuming you have a windows
instalation on your mac, it would be an easy process if time-consuming.

I don't know of any mac app that can clens windows malware. The linux version

get a linux box I suppose.

Hope this helps,

I know there is a GV widgit, and I also know there are some programs
you can get where you put the number to call, then it rings you back
on one of your forwarding lines, but I literally want like a soft

to work through Google Talk, which of corse does work in Adium, but I
never could get that to work. Even after enabling it, it wouldn't

Re: Is This Possible And How?

2011-07-07 Thread Chris Blouch
Usually you can only format local drives. Why do you need to format it
if you can already access it? You can format a drive on the Mac but it
only does FAT and exFAT, not NTFS. I guess I missed that last part in
your original email that you wanted to access the drive on your Mac from
your PC to format it, not to access the files. I know with laptops you
could boot up in Target mode by holding down the T key which turned the
laptop into a very expensive external firewire hard drive. You could
then hook it up to a PC's firewire port and do whatever you want to the
internal drive. Generally formatting will always require local hard
wired access to the hard drive for the machine that is doing the formatting.

Over a network you can mount Mac file shares on your PC. On the Mac

go to

Options to turn on Share files and folders using SMB and then enable
which accounts on your mac are allowed in from Windows. Once all
that is

done from your windows side you can just connect a new network drive
with your Mac's address. So on the PC you would connect to something
like 192.168.xx.yy\username and then chose to connect using a
different

username is just cblouch so I connect to //192.168.xx.yy/cblouch where
xx and yy are my actual IP address and the username is cblouch with
whatever the password is I use on the Mac. After that you should

username is just cblouch so I connect to //192.168.xx.yy/cblouch where
xx and yy are my actual IP address and the username is cblouch with
whatever the password is I use on the Mac. After that you should have a
new drive letter and be able to access all the files and folders in your
username folder on your Mac.

You can find that in the Preference Network pane on your Mac. The Status
will say Connected and then continue on to read the IP address. It's
also repeated further down after the text "IP Address".

Over a network you can mount Mac file shares on your PC. On the Mac
you'll need to turn on File Sharing in the Sharing Preference and go to
Options to turn on Share files and folders using SMB and then enable
which accounts on your mac are allowed in from Windows. Once all that is
done from your windows side you can just connect a new network drive
with your Mac's address. So on the PC you would connect to something
like 192.168.xx.yy\username and then chose to connect using a different
user name and it will prompt you for the mac username/password. So my
username is just cblouch so I connect to //192.168.xx.yy/cblouch where
