Tiny yes, roughly 1/2 x 1/3“. What is the orientation of the card in the tray?
Does the notched corner go to the upper right of the tray – the part that goes
furthest into the phone itself? Or is it oriented some other way? it just might
help me to know in advance how the notch should go into the tray and not have
to fumble around with it my big sausage fingers will probably drop the thing A

The card will only go into the tray one way. You can’t put the sim in the
wrong way.
It is very tiny, so make sure you do everything over a towel or something like
that to help you keep track of the old and new sim.

they do have more expensive plans if you need more gig but if you're already
using Spectrum you get unlimited talk and text plus 1 gig of data per month for
$14. except for once a year, I rarely need any more than that.

H, think the phone plan they are talking about for $14 a month is probably
the landline offering to use at home, unless I am missing something. I think
the Spectrum Mobile service is around $45 a month for the unlimited, and maybe
about $14 per gig used per month if you don’t want unlimited. So, if one was
going to use more than 3 gigs per month or so, the unlimited is likely the
better deal. I heard they do let you switch that any time, but it is probably a
pretty good deal using Verizon’s towers.

Does Spectrum offer a virtual Sim Card?

I had to get a sim Card sent to me once I provided my eimi number or something
like that.

I have Spectrum Internet so can get their phone plan for $14 a month.

Re: sim card

2021-09-27 Thread Cameron Strife
Okay, this really grinds my gears. I've seen this come up many
different places. Why do so many blind people have the idea that this
is something that a sighted person needs to help them with?

I'm totally blind and have swapped sim cards on many iPhones over the
years. It's not complicated or difficult, you just need to have a
gentle touch.

Before putting in a new sim card or taking out your current sim card
if you're selling the phone for example, make sure the phone is
powered down first.

On the right side or left side of the phone, you'll feel a tiny hole
and next to that hole, you may be able to feel the edges of the sim
card tray. Find a paperclip and bend out the end with the point on it.
You'll use the point to eject the sim card tray.

You don't want to risk scratching the side of your iPhone when
ejecting the sim card tray so what I tend to do after finding the hole
is put my thumb on one side and my pointer finger on the other. I use
them to guide the end of the paperclip in. When you push in the
paperclip, the sim card tray should pop out. Simply grab it and pull
it straight out. Assuming you are holding the phone facing you, like
if you were on a facetime call for example, the sim card will be
sitting in the top of the tray. Be very careful to not let it fal out!
this happened to me once and it took an hour to find it. What I do now
is use a tray, box, or a plastic container under the phone. This way
if the sim card does fall out, it's in a small area that it can't
bounce out of.

Okay, grab your new sim card... The card will easily drop into the
tray if the orientation is correct. same goes for tray insertion.
Don't force it! You'll feel a little notch in the sim card. Line it up
to where the old one had it's notch. If you didn't notice when you
took it out, its not a big deal. the card will only work one way so
trial and error will get you there if nothing else.

Once the sim card tray is pushed all the way in, simply power on your
phone and you should see the cell carrier and network type in the
status bar at the top of your iPhone's screen.

Hi,

When I first got my iphone SE, a sighted person inserted the SIM card into it.
I just wonder whether it is possible for a totally blind person to remove and
insert a SIM card independently? It is that I want to have the option of
swapping my SIM cards at will. It is an unlocked iphone so I should be able to
use whatever SIM card I wish. Am I correct?

Also, any tips of how to recognise which way to insert the sIM would be very
helpful.

Many thanks

Andrew

Re: Changing SIM card without sighted help

2017-05-04 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Andrew,

Yes, you can do this without sighted help.
In the box your iPhone came in, there was a small package of documentation with
a tiny tool tucked just inside. This tool is rectangular with a spike sticking
out at the bottom.
You need to insert the spike into a hole on the righthand edge of your iPhone
and press quite hard. A little tray will pop out a short way. This holds the
SIM card. One corner is cut so that you can’t insert the card the wrong way
round.

Cheers,

Anne

Changing SIM card without sighted help

2017-05-04 Thread Andrew Lamanche

Also, any tips of how to recognise which way to insert the sIM would be very
helpful.

Many thanks

Andrew

Re: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card

2016-07-26 Thread Scott Granados
Agreed, for me I just get the right sized one from the carrier. I think they
cost only a few bucks to the carrier now so they are more willing to let them
go for nothing. I switched a lot of mine out when it was announced that the
NSA had a plant in the company that produces the cards which compromised the
keys.

RE: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card

2016-07-26 Thread Simon Fogarty
Scott,

I find the idea of cutting sims old now.

I have a number of packages of the sim adaptors for change the sim size
depending on which phone you need to put it in, however we have sim cards here
in NZ that are a 3 in 1 sim, so it's the full sized sim card with the micro and
nano sims also in it, you then just break the unwanted parts off and your left
with what you need.
Hell of a lot easier than having to cut thigns down nto size.

Chris, cutting SIM cards is standard practice. They make specific cutters and
tools that stores use to do this although you can do it yourself with a good
cutting tool. Many times you’re directed to do so by the carrier, in other
cases they give them away for free. T-Mobile is one that if you have a good
relationship with your local store they give them away and AT is one known
for cutting and reusing SIM cards, I suspect many stores will but I know in
some cases you’re specifically told to resize the sim. You can also get
adapters to fit the nano sim in a larger form factor so it can be reused in
both directions.

RE: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card

2016-07-26 Thread Simon Fogarty
Yeah Chris,

When I started up my phones, it prompted for a sim but once up and running it
works if you take the sim card out but does say that the sim has been removed
which I for one just ignore.

Uh, news for you. I have an IPhone 6+ over here with no sim, and it's not
prompting me that there is no sim installed. And yes, this is a sim based
network phone which initially was through AT It's not jailbroken, no sim
unlock, nothing. It's jsut as it was from the AT store... no beta build
installed of iOS, nothing.

I wonder why for you, it would tell you that.

Maybe I'm confused.

Are you saying it pops up and nags you of this, or are you saying it says this
on the main lock sfcreen only. If the ladder, then yes. You're right.
I guess I'm thinking you're meaning it's constantly popping up a notification
telling you this.

Hi mary,

I think this depends on where you get it from on the planet,

You do have to put a sim card in an iPhone to get it up and running
otherwise it tells you that there is no sim card and spits the dummy.

However once you have it up and running you can take the sim out and use
the phone for other things but it will still tell you that the sim is
missing

Unlike android devices which don't really care so long as they havea wifi
connection they can get data on.

I recall seeing somewhere that if you buy an iPhone, such as an iPhone SE,
and you don't get a carriers Sim card to go with it, you can't use it. Is
that true? I have an android phone that I never had a Sim card for, and it
has worked just fine as a tablet more or less. I would like to use an iPhone
se as an iPod. Is that possible?

Yes, I read something I believe it was on Mac Rumors about certain T-Mobile

I’ll look back through my notifications buffer and see if I still have the

2016-07-25 Thread Scott Granados
Hi Mary,

All the modern apple products use the nano SIM so once you have a right sized
SIM you can use it between devices.
T-Mobile will give you a nano SIM for free if you ask nicely you can go
that route. Also I meant to ping you off list, they are offering a bunch of
unlimited plans again you may want to give them another call.

If all this is to much of a headache I have a pile of nano SIMs, I could drop
one in the mail.

Re: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card

2016-07-25 Thread Scott Granados
Chris, cutting SIM cards is standard practice. They make specific cutters and
tools that stores use to do this although you can do it yourself with a good
cutting tool. Many times you’re directed to do so by the carrier, in other
cases they give them away for free. T-Mobile is one that if you have a good
relationship with your local store they give them away and AT is one known
for cutting and reusing SIM cards, I suspect many stores will but I know in
some cases you’re specifically told to resize the sim. You can also get
adapters to fit the nano sim in a larger form factor so it can be reused in
both directions.

Well, my Nexus six started life on lollipop and definitely had no Sim. But
excess ability came on as you would expect it should. No idea why. I'm not sure
if the sim in the nexus six will fit an iPhone. But it certainly easy enough to
check. Given that they had the Devils time getting the sim into the Nexus six
however, I'm not so sure.

2016-07-25 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Uh, news for you. I have an IPhone 6+ over here with no sim, and it's not
prompting me that there is no sim installed. And yes, this is a sim based
network phone which initially was through AT It's not jailbroken, no sim
unlock, nothing. It's jsut as it was from the AT store... no beta build
installed of iOS, nothing.

I wonder why for you, it would tell you that.

Maybe I'm confused.

Are you saying it pops up and nags you of this, or are you saying it says
this on the main lock sfcreen only. If the ladder, then yes. You're right.
I guess I'm thinking you're meaning it's constantly popping up a
notification telling you this.

Actually, I don't want to get off topic here, Mary, but you know what's
weird about that? With my Nexus 6, I had no sim in the thing at all. Not
just a dead sim. I literally had, *no!* sim. When I tried with both
KitKat, and with Lollypop back in the days to boot the phone and hold two

fingers spread, accessibility came right on first attempt. It was the
weirdest thing I'd ever seen! So, yeah, my point is, I'm not sure if that
was a glitch, or if you do actually need a sim on Android phones, just like

Anyway, this is really getting OT, so I'll end it there, but I just found

Mary, this is not a big deals, your carrier will give you a sim for free if you
ask nicely or just reuse one if you have one handy. It’s not needed to have
valid service on the sim just that something’s in the slot.

RE: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card

2016-07-25 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi mary,

I think this depends on where you get it from on the planet,

You do have to put a sim card in an iPhone to get it up and running otherwise
it tells you that there is no sim card and spits the dummy.

However once you have it up and running you can take the sim out and use the
phone for other things but it will still tell you that the sim is missing

Unlike android devices which don't really care so long as they havea wifi
connection they can get data on.

Re: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card

2016-07-24 Thread Gabe Griffith
Hi,

If your android and the iPhone you are getting use the same sim card then I
would think that you could simply put that sim in to your ipHone to use for the
setup. Once the setup is done you can remove the sim and use the iphone as an
iPod. I'm doing that with an iPhone 5S right now.

Re: removing sim card from iphone4?

2014-06-04 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
The sim card is located on the right side of the phone. There is a very
small slot covered with a matching piece of metal that nearly perfectly
blends in. At the lower end of this slot is a tiny hole. If you
straighten out a very small paper clip you can shove it in that hole to
get the sim card tray out and then remove the sim card from the tray.

Re: sim card in iphone 3gs?

2012-01-24 Thread Emrah
Hank, it's on the opposite side of where you have your volume buttons. The SIM
card must be placed on a little tray, which you then insert into the device.
To get the tray out, you need a sharp pin. You might want to ask a sighted
person to show you once how to perform it.

And finally, you do have a prepaid product with ATT that does not require a
credit check. It is call GoPhone. I don't have a social security number and
have 2 ATT phone lines.

Best,

How to insert the SIM card

2009-08-19 Thread Christian

Hi all,
Finally, I have got my iPhone and I realy look forward of trying it with VO now.
However, I am not able to find the SIM card tray. Should it be on the top of
the phone?
Any help would be apreciated, many thanks!
Christian

Re: How to insert the SIM card

2009-08-19 Thread Anne Robertson

Hello Christian,

The SIM card tray is at the opposite end of the iPhone from the USB
port. There's a tiny hole right next to it where you insert the
extraction tool. The extraction tool is fixed inside the cover of the
instruction booklet and it looks a bit like a tiny paperclip held in
with a paper butterfly. You push the end of the extraction tool into
the hole and the tray pops out.

Cheers,

Anne

Re[2]: How to insert the SIM card

2009-08-19 Thread Christian

Hi Anne,
OK, I managed to insert the card now, but it doesn't work.
I suppose I will need to remove the PIN code form my SIM card.
Many thanks,
Christian

This can only be accomplished if your phone is unlocked, either via
factory purchase or through jailbreak.

Not the physical problem but the exclusive deals Apple did with the
various carriers. So if my iphone is tied to ATT in the US and I go
to Singapore I can just get a Singtel sim and be good to go?
