Hello, Not sure if you mentioned your original carrier, but I know for certain that T-Mobile has an app in the app store that enables the Virtual SIM to use the T-Mobile network as a demo. Re: sim card
Okay, this really grinds my gears. I've seen this come up many different places. Why do so many blind people have the idea that this is something that a sighted person needs to help them with? I'm totally blind and have swapped sim cards on many iPhones over the years. It's not complicated or difficult, you just need to have a gentle touch. Before putting in a new sim card or taking out your current sim card if you're selling the phone for example, make sure the phone is powered down first. On the right side or left side of the phone, you'll feel a tiny hole and next to that hole, you may be able to feel the edges of the sim card tray. Find a paperclip and bend out the end with the point on it. You'll use the point to eject the sim card tray. You don't want to risk scratching the side of your iPhone when ejecting the sim card tray so what I tend to do after finding the hole is put my thumb on one side and my pointer finger on the other. I use them to guide the end of the paperclip in. When you push in the paperclip, the sim card tray should pop out. Simply grab it and pull it straight out. Assuming you are holding the phone facing you, like if you were on a facetime call for example, the sim card will be sitting in the top of the tray. Be very careful to not let it fal out! this happened to me once and it took an hour to find it. What I do now is use a tray, box, or a plastic container under the phone. This way if the sim card does fall out, it's in a small area that it can't bounce out of. Okay, grab your new sim card... The card will easily drop into the tray if the orientation is correct. same goes for tray insertion. Don't force it! You'll feel a little notch in the sim card. Line it up to where the old one had it's notch. If you didn't notice when you took it out, its not a big deal. the card will only work one way so trial and error will get you there if nothing else. Once the sim card tray is pushed all the way in, simply power on your phone and you should see the cell carrier and network type in the status bar at the top of your iPhone's screen. Re: Changing SIM card without sighted help
Hello Andrew, Yes, you can do this without sighted help. In the box your iPhone came in, there was a small package of documentation with a tiny tool tucked just inside. This tool is rectangular with a spike sticking out at the bottom. You need to insert the spike into a hole on the righthand edge of your iPhone and press quite hard. A little tray will pop out a short way. This holds the SIM card. One corner is cut so that you can’t insert the card the wrong way round. Agreed, for me I just get the right sized one from the carrier. I think they cost only a few bucks to the carrier now so they are more willing to let them go for nothing. RE: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card
Scott, I find the idea of cutting sims old now. I have a number of packages of the sim adaptors for change the sim size depending on which phone you need to put it in, however we have sim cards here in NZ that are a 3 in 1 sim, so it's the full sized sim card with the micro and nano sims also in it, you then just break the unwanted parts off and your left with what you need. Hell of a lot easier than having to cut thigns down nto size. -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Scott Granados Sent: Tuesday, 26 July 2016 4:02 AM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card Chris, cutting SIM cards is standard practice. Many times you’re directed to do so by the carrier, in other cases they give them away for free. T-Mobile is one that if you have a good relationship with your local store they give them away and AT is one known for cutting and reusing SIM cards, I suspect many stores will but I know in some cases you’re specifically told to resize the sim. Thanks, Scott. I hope these new unlimited plans are not for new customers only. I will have to give their page a look. I assume I should find in there. Right? Hi Mary, All the modern apple products use the nano SIM so once you have a right sized SIM you can use it between devices. T-Mobile will give you a nano SIM for free if you ask nicely you can go that route. Also I meant to ping you off list, they are offering a bunch of unlimited plans again you may want to give them another call. Re: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card
Chris, cutting SIM cards is standard practice. They make specific cutters and tools that stores use to do this although you can do it yourself with a good cutting tool. You can also get adapters to fit the nano sim in a larger form factor so it can be reused in both directions. > On Jul 25, 2016, at 11:48 AM, Christopher-Mark Gilland > <clgillan...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Wow, cutting the sim card? Well, my Nexus six started life on lollipop and definitely had no Sim. But excess ability came on as you would expect it should. No idea why. I'm not sure if the sim in the nexus six will fit an iPhone. But it certainly easy enough to check. Given that they had the Devils time getting the sim into the Nexus six however, I'm not so sure. Re: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card
Uh, news for you. I have an IPhone 6+ over here with no sim, and it's not prompting me that there is no sim installed. And yes, this is a sim based network phone which initially was through AT It's not jailbroken, no sim unlock, nothing. It's jsut as it was from the AT store... no beta build installed of iOS, nothing. I wonder why for you, it would tell you that. Maybe I'm confused. Are you saying it pops up and nags you of this, or are you saying it says this on the main lock sfcreen only. If the ladder, then yes. You're right. I guess I'm thinking you're meaning it's constantly popping up a notification telling you this. --- Christopher Gilland JAWS Certified, 2016. Actually, I don't want to get off topic here, Mary, but you know what's weird about that? With my Nexus 6, I had no sim in the thing at all. Not just a dead sim. I literally had, *no!* sim. When I tried with both KitKat, and with Lollypop back in the days to boot the phone and hold two fingers to turn on Talkback, it wouldn't do it. Try as I may, it would, not, happen. Mary, this is not a big deals, your carrier will give you a sim for free if you ask nicely or just reuse one if you have one handy. RE: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card
Hi mary, I think this depends on where you get it from on the planet, You do have to put a sim card in an iPhone to get it up and running otherwise it tells you that there is no sim card and spits the dummy. However once you have it up and running you can take the sim out and use the phone for other things but it will still tell you that the sim is missing Unlike android devices which don't really care so long as they havea wifi connection they can get data on. -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Mary Otten Sent: Monday, 25 July 2016 1:56 PM To: viph...@googlegroups.com; macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card I recall seeing somewhere that if you buy an iPhone, such as an iPhone SE, and you don't get a carriers Sim card to go with it, you can't use it. Re: Purchasing an iPhone and not having a Sim card
Hi, If your android and the iPhone you are getting use the same sim card then I would think that you could simply put that sim in to your ipHone to use for the setup. Once the setup is done you can remove the sim and use the iphone as an iPod. I'm doing that with an iPhone 5S right now. Re: removing sim card from iphone4?
The sim card is located on the right side of the phone. There is a very small slot covered with a matching piece of metal that nearly perfectly blends in. At the lower end of this slot is a tiny hole. If you straighten out a very small paper clip you can shove it in that hole to get the sim card tray out and then remove the sim card from the tray. Re: sim card in iphone 3gs?
Hank, it's on the opposite side of where you have your volume buttons. The SIM card must be placed on a little tray, which you then insert into the device. To get the tray out, you need a sharp pin. You might want to ask a sighted person to show you once how to perform it. And finally, you do have a prepaid product with ATT that does not require a credit check. It is call GoPhone. Hello Christian, The SIM card tray is at the opposite end of the iPhone from the USB port. There's a tiny hole right next to it where you insert the extraction tool. The extraction tool is fixed inside the cover of the instruction booklet and it looks a bit like a tiny paperclip held in with a paper butterfly. You push the end of the extraction tool into the hole and the tray pops out. Not the physical problem but the exclusive deals Apple did with the various carriers. So if my iphone is tied to ATT in the US and I go to Singapore I can just get a Singtel sim and be good to go? There's a tiny hole right next to it where you insert the extraction tool. The extraction tool is fixed inside the cover of the instruction booklet and it looks a bit like a tiny paperclip held in with a paper butterfly. You push the end of the extraction tool into the hole and the tray pops out. Should it be on the top of the phone? Any help would be apreciated, many thanks!
