Re: Adding Widgets on Mac OS

2023-12-27 Thread joseph hodge
Thank you so much for posting this! For widgets like you showed for text it
seems to work pretty well however with widgets where you can interact with
buttons it didn't seem to work very well. For example YouTube has a widget
that you can do a search I'm assuming because the Mac doesn't actually have
a YouTube widget it doesn't know what to do with that. I wish Apple would
just eliminate that from the list as it really doesn't work on the Mac
unless I'm missing something. Same goes for alexa. They had a widget so I
was like I'll try it but of course it doesn't work because there's no Mac
Alexa app.

Re: Adding Widgets on Mac OS

2023-12-26 Thread Michael Babcock
Hi Joseph and all!

Find "Using widgets from iOS 17 on macOS 14’s desktop”, this was the episode I
was thinking of:

https://unmute.show/2023/10/01/using-widgets-from-ios-17-on-macos-14s-desktop/

VO+O to open notification center
Locate edit widgets button
Locate the widget
Interact with the preview, find the size you want
Use actions menu on the size you want, and choose Drag to desktop.
You can also press vo+Space on this widget to add to the desktop.
It looks like it’s easy to add both Mac and IOS widgets to the desktop, however
I also am not seeing how to move those widgets or add new ones to the
Notification Center.
It does say "Drag a widget to place it on the desktop or Notification Center…”
but doesn’t make it clear how to drag or add to the Notification Center.
I did try VO+ < and VO + . As well as vo+command+shift+space
To drag and then toggle the notification center and attempt to drop in the
widgets there, and that didn't work either.

Adding Widgets on Mac OS

2023-12-25 Thread Kelly Ford
Hello,

Can someone point me to the proper method to add/remove widgets on the latest
Mac OS.

I tried this article from Apple but it doesn’t seem to work.

I know how to open the Notification Center, indicate I want to edit widgets and
find those I want. This is where I get stuck. I can activate the widget and it
shows up in the preview area. At that point I’m stuck.

Running iOS 14.1, Today View is still there. It is to the left of the Home
screen. It is no longer labeled as “Page 1”, and the layout is a little
different, but it is still there and accessed by a 3-finger swipe to the right.

Re: Adding widgets to home screen

2020-10-28 Thread Phil Halton
Well that sucks, won’t do that again. On a different note, what happened to the
today view? It seems totally inaccessible. Sliding the finger around on the
screen gives no indication of any widgets there anymore. There is a search
field, but no widgets at least not that can be accessed. are used to use the
today view to check the battery status on some Bluetooth devices. I’ll have to
figure out something else I guess.

Re: Adding widgets to home screen

2020-10-27 Thread Dave Carlson
Phil,
Adding the widget is what pushed the icons over to the next home page. Removing
the widget does not pull anything back. You have to do it yourself.
Really should be an undo function, don’t you think?

I added a widget to the home screen, and then removed it. Now the bottom two
rows of my home screen are blank and everything that was there got pushed over
onto the next screen down in the chain. I guess when I deleted the widget it
pulled everything up from below to fill in where the witch was and left a big

Anders,
Not sure if you meant app rather than widget for iOS? If so, just make sure you
have an empty space in the dock area (no more than 5).

Re: Widgets, and Calendars, and Lists, Oh My!

2016-08-07 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Mark and everybody else:

Wow, Calendar list not being available is a bit of a nuisance. There is a
calendar AppleScript library, so perhaps we can figure out a way to bring back
functionality to our group

What requirements would you want from a calendar list?

Also, anybody want to help in developing an script to ease our calendar views?
Note that just like on the phone in the today view of notification center you
can see today and tomorrow's events.

Best wishes,

RE: Widgets, and Calendars, and Lists, Oh My!

2016-06-04 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Sabahattin, et al,

Well, as it turns out, with the installation of El Capitan, the Dashboard
Widget Space is automatically disabled. I re-enabled it but, to my dismay, the
Calendar widget that used to provide a list view is no longer being updated and
is incompatible with the current version of the native Calendar application.

Try as I may, I cannot find a way to have a list of upcoming calendar events be
displayed in a list view.

I think it’s pretty clear Apple are going to deprecate them, sooner or later.

Widgets, and Calendars, and Lists, Oh My!

2016-06-02 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

Prior to El Capitan, one could use the key-combo of Control+Left-Arrow to
bring up a Desktop containing various widgets including a Calendar widget
that would display a list of upcoming appointments, across multiple dates,
just like the Calendar List View currently available in iOS 9.x. For some
reason, in El Capitan, this no longer seems to work. However, if I perform
the key-combo of Control+Right-Arrow, a second desktop is displayed
containing the same icons that appear on my primary desktop.

Question 1:
Is the widget display, as I have described above, no longer available in OS
X El Capitan?

This issue came to point, today because as I was adding appointments in the
native Calendar application, I began searching for a way to display a list
of upcoming appointments, across multiple dates, just like the Calendar List
View currently available in iOS 9.x.

Question 2:
Is there any way to display a list of upcoming appointments, across multiple
dates, just like the Calendar List View currently available in iOS 9.x?

Thank you,

Mark

Opening widgets in the Dashboard

2016-02-20 Thread John Ylioja
Hi all,

Thanks to all who responded when I asked about choosing a Mac a couple of
months ago. I ended up going with a refurbished Macbook Air, and have been
learning the basics of how to use it. I am having trouble with opening closed
widgets in the Dashboard. I can close one with the VO command to close a
window, VO command escape. When I choose the widget again from the Dashboard
menu accessed with the window chooser command, it asks if I want to create a
user copy of the widget. Is there any way to move through the active widgets to

Re: does any one know how i can put back the widgets back in to the notifications center on the mac

2015-08-09 Thread Alex Hall
In your Notification Center, after the scroll area of widgets, is an edit
button. Activate that, then go back to the scroll area and add or remove all
the widgets you want. Stop interacting and activate the done button once you
have things how you want them.

too many weather widgets in my F12, dashboard menu

2015-04-07 Thread ted phillips
Hi all. Well, it looks like I have done something again in my learning my new
macbook. I have about 4 weathers in my F12 dashboard menu, and can’t figure
out how to get rid of them all. Can someone on the list help me with this?
Thanks all.

widgets question

2014-03-26 Thread Caitlyn and Maggie
Hi,
I am beginning to play with the widgets.
How do you find and add new ones?
I know how to get into the menu, etc, just not how to add and find others other
then the stock ones already provided..
thanks!
Caitlyn

you can call them. a faster and easier way is:

Yup, that one appears to be dead. The domain for the download is for
sale. I found a review for the widget which was from 2008 so I guess it
didn't catch on. Next question is how to tell Apple?

Wow! That has to be one of the most inaccessible interfaces I've run
across in a while. I didn't actually try to use the site, was just
wanting to get folks pointed to the source of the pasted HTML in the
original email. Anyway, it seems that there are three columns rendered
as list items and you have to wade through all the categories before you
can get to the items in a category. Instead you can skip all that
because they are repeated below the goofy columnar widget browser
thingie. Just VO-command H a couple times until you get to Categories
and then follow the links that interest you. After that you'll get a
fairly navigable list with widget titles and descriptions followed by a
download link. If the category has a lot of items you can action the
number links next to the word Pages. It won't indicate what page you are
on but it does seem to flip to the 4th page if you action the 4 etc.

can't download new dashboard widgets using the apple website

2014-03-17 Thread Jessica
hi,
I am trying to download a new dashboard widget from the apple website.
Specifically, the american idol one. When I click the "download" link,
voiceover says,"press download link" after a few seconds, I go to my downloads
folder, but it never shows up.
Where are they put after download? I cannot find them with spotlight search
either.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Jessica

Re: how to put websites into dashboard as widgets

2014-03-11 Thread Teresa Cochran
If the dialog box is not showing up, do a VO-f2 twice quickly in safari to
bring up the window chooser, and select the dialog from it. It's a pretty
straightforward dialog. I wouldn't recommend trying to select various parts of
the web page, as the accessibility is not the best for that. You'll have to add
the entire thing. Personally, I would go with the text file with
UrL=webpage
saved to your desktop instead. Place the webpage address where the word
"webpage" is in the above line.

that's cool I didn't know you could do that. I have a folder on my desktop

Re: how to put websites into dashboard as widgets

2014-03-11 Thread Jim Gatteys
Not sure about dashboard but I have some on my desktop that I've created with
"we bloc" files. You can create a textile with the internet address in it and
just copy it to your desktop.
the line with the address has to have the phrase URL=followed by the web
address:
this might be and example:
URL=http://www.macvisionaries.com

Re: how to put websites into dashboard as widgets

2014-03-11 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Jessica,

You can go to the safari page you want to add. From the file menu, choose "open
in dashboard ...". This will give you a dialog that includes the option to
select a portion of the webpage to add.

Unfortunately, customizing the webpage is very visual. I haven't found a way to
do this and get audible feedback while doing it. i added an entire web page,
and the widget is just called "web clip". I don't know how to rename a widget,
but you can certainly get the webpage into the dashboard. Renaming the widget
file in /library doesn't seem to work for me, either.

hth,
Teresa

If you've opened a widget more than once without closing it, you'll have to
repeat this procedure until doing cmd-vo-escape just pings at you and brings up
no choices. Or you can check to see if you are still in a widget each time you
close. It's possible to really accumulate them if you haven't been closing each
time.

I remember listening to a David Woodbridge podcast on this topic on
applevis.com. It was done in Lion, and Mountain Lion changed one of the
keystrokes - I can't remember which one. Check out the podcast., the crucial
keystroke changed from one of the modifiers. like from command x to control x -
sorry I can't be more specific. The basic method was the same - it was the
keystroke that changed.

Re: closing dashboard widgets?

2013-05-13 Thread Chris Gilland
It depends on what version you're running of OSX. If you're in Mountain
Lion, then go to the widget you wish to close, and hit vo+command+escape.

If you're in Leopard, Snow Leopard, or Lion, then go to the widget, then hit
vo+command+F2. In either case, it will tell you then to press return to
close the widget. So, hit return, and boom, it's gone. Then if you want to
reopen it, open up your dashboard, then do your vo+F2 F2, go to the widgets
bar menu, locate the widget, and hit vo+space on it, and it'll open in the
foreground and have focus.

Re: manage dashboard widgets

2013-04-24 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
Hello,

there is a widget called "Widgets" In this there is a delete button. This
appears to completely remove the widget and not put it in your trash. It might
be that you have to use a true mouse click for the delete to occur, I had
trouble deleteing a widget, but I only had one widget that was not in the
system library widgets.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Re: manage dashboard widgets

2013-04-24 Thread Søren Jensen
Hi.

Oh I thought you ment just removing the widgets so they don't run. :)

If you really wanna remove your widgets from your computer, you have to open up
your library folder on your internal harddrive, open the folder called Widgets
and just delete the widgets you wanna remove by pressing command backspace.
Do that on your own risk. :)

Re: manage dashboard widgets

2013-04-23 Thread Jake Tex
Hi,

Sorry, but this does not accomplish what I want.

If I follow the steps you outline, the widget still appears when:

Bring up dashboard widget.
Press VO-F2 twice.
Arrow down to widget menu bar.
Right Arrow.
Down Arrow through installed widgets.
The item I just tried to remove using the method you described is still there.

Are you saying this works for you?

What people have been describing is how to delete a widget from the list that
appears for running widgets, but not from the list of installed widgets.

I know that you can't remove Apple's installed widgets, only hide them. But
they aren't hiding using this method.

Thanks to everyone for your attempts to help on this.

Jake

Re: manage dashboard widgets

2013-04-18 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

There explanations are providing the answer you're looking for. This process
is accessed differently when using VO.

• VO-f2-f2 brings up the Widget Chooser menu.
• Arrow to the Widget you wish removed then press return. This will bring
focus to that Widget.
• Press VO-cmd-esc for which VO will announce "Return Yes, Esc No". Therefore,
simply press return and that Widget will no longer appear in the Widget Chooser
and not be displayed on your Dashboard.

HTH.

Re: manage dashboard widgets

2013-04-18 Thread Jake Tex
Hi.

What I'm looking for is a way to remove widgets I don't want from showing up on
the menu. All my google searches say that there is a button on the dashboard to
press, and when you do there is an option to manage widgets, where you can then
see a list of your widgets with a check for each to show or not show. This
button is what I can't find, I'm beginning to believe that it is inaccessible.

In any case, what I really want is a way to show/hide widgets that appear on
the menu.

Thanks,
Jake

I'm not sure on what exactly you're searching for. If you enter the widgets
menu, you'll get a list of installed widgets. Pressing enter on one of those
will open the selected widget. That's all you can do from the menu.

Re: manage dashboard widgets

2013-04-15 Thread Søren Jensen
Hi.

When you have opened the dashboard, you can bring up the window chooser by
pressing VO f2 twice. There, you can reach the window which will let you
managed your widgets. To close the selected widget, you can press VO cmd f2.

Hi all.

I am using os x 10.8.3. I have been trying to figure out how to get to the
Manage Dashboard Widgets, but all I can find is some information about clicking
a plus button which I can't find anywhere. Does anyone know the trick to this?

Thanks in advance,

Dashboard Adding New Widgets in Mountain Lion

2013-01-20 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all, been trying to make more use of the Dashboard in Mountain
Lion but can't for the life of me figure out how to add more widgets.
I am able to get to the list of all installed widgets which is 16 but
there is no widgets button or anyway that I can figure out how to get
to the plus symbol to add more widgets. Has anyone figured this out?
Thanks.

What about you give us an idea as to what you need to do, hope to

Re: Widgets and System Speech Rate Questions.

2012-04-26 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
1. SOme widgets can not easily be removed though you should be able to click
them to make them inactive. System provided widgets are not in your personal
Library, so I would expect the "delete" button would never appear. If they are
truely annoying you, then you should be able to search them out from the
/Library/ or /System/Library/ directories.

wrt your question on voice speed, there are two primary places to set this so
you will have to be more specific:
1. In Voice Over (VO-command-uparrow/downarrow) or in the VoiceOver Utility
under the speech tab.

Any application that is using non-voiceover speech output, (iChat, growl ...)
either has voice rate voice sync settings in its control panel, or else just
uses the default system voice settings found in the System Preferences.

If you need further explanation, I can provide that.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Deleting Widgets

2012-04-23 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello folks,

I've researched via the archives, but have not found a good answer to my
problem.
I would like to delete widgets from the widget manager, but there is no clear
indication on how I can accomplish this. All i see are the widgets in a list,
but no area to select or de-select each widget. I've listened to a good podcast
detailing this process, but this step is where I am at a loss. I am using the
king of the jungle OS.

Thank you all for any help you can provide.

Switching Between Widgets?

2012-02-04 Thread Dan Roy
Ok, sometime back there was a thread on this list about switching between
widgets with a hotkey. At the time, I got it to work, now, I must have
forgotten the proper hotkey combination.

Apple is telling me to use command left and right arrows, those don't seem to
be working. I do have most of the actions disabled under mission control
settings. if I don't, I keep opening up mission control when I don't intend
too. This hotkey definitely worked before. Thanks for any info that can be
given on this.

PS: I tried the dashkard all in 1 widget for hotkeys, and, it doesn't appear to
be accessible. I can read it, everything except the actual hotkeys.

Re: A Question About Closing Dashboard Widgets

2011-08-08 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hello Mark and Others.

I don't understand what wigits are and if they are good, how do you use and for
what purpose? I just know that mine keep opening and get in the way and can't
close.

My other problem is that I do not find Mission control accessible as I want to
access the short cut menu and disable the short cut keys pop up.

I am doing a fresh install of Lion in three weeks so I hope Safari will work
properly as web pages do not open unless I am in Itunes.

Hi Chris,

In the Weather Widget, press the Info button at the bottom, I believe, right
of the widget. That will flip the widget over where you have the ability to
change the city, the Celsius/Farenheit and some other options. Just press
the Done button when you have the settings the way you want them and it will
flip back over to the regular side.

Not a problem. I believe Keith Reedy actually was the one who told me how
to use and close widgets. It isn't, to my knowledge, in the manual, though it
could be in the list of commands in Appendix A.

Hello John and thank you ever so much for telling me how to close a widget.
I had absolutely no idea.

As I write this, I have a Braille copy of the Snow Leopard VoiceOver getting
Started manual on my lap. I have just read through the table of contents
and see no reference to neither Dashboard or Widgets.

Thank you, again.

P.S. Sorry, Mark, I know that didn't answer your question. :) Since I haven't

Speaking of widgets, I notice that I have three Google entries in my
dashboard menus, and about nine "word counter," entries; what's with
the redundancy, how can I get rid of the redundant ones, and what's
the difference between the widget bar menu and the dashboard menu; in
