[maemo-developers] IT2006 EDS contacts

2006-06-13 Thread Pinghang.Koon

Question 1:
I have seen that the contacts are now centralized using EDS.
In the contact, will a field "Phone Number" be included?
I think that would be better for contact management.

Question 2:
I attempted "Remove field" on Nickname, but failed. (Still exist next
time I open it)
I attempted "Add field", only "Email" and "Google Talk" is allowed.

Is it a known uncompleted item?

Yours faithfully,

Alvis Koon

Phone number is not included, as there is no way of calling a phone
number from the 770.

Nickname is a default field (along with first name and last name) so
will always be present in the contact editor, even if there is nothing
in the field.

Phone number is not included, as there is no way of calling a phone
number from the 770.

There will be when SIP support is added, even if this isn't a inbuilt
'standard' option and is provided by third party apps (as indicated in
some PR stuff I read somewhere) it would be nice if they could be
encouraged to use the integrated address book system rather than
needing to have a second contacts application.

ACK.

Also it would be nice, because then the N770 has more PDA-functionality.
(I don't like and want a full-featured PDA, but a phonebook would be
nice.)

Someone please write a small applet to initiate a phone call on a

You need at least the "-f" option to instruct flasher to actually flash.

However, you most probably won't have much luck, it seems that the new
flasher is required for the new firmware.

Btw. Are you trying to run it from the MMC?

It's mounted with noexec, i.e. you need to copy the excutable

I'd put money on it being the ABI change. The page which smartkenny
mentioned said it was unpacked from an ARM Linux tarball - this'll no
longer work, of course.

[maemo-developers] Unable to sign into Jabber and Gtalk in IT2006 Beta

2006-06-13 Thread Wesley Mason

Hello all,

flashed my 770 with the beta firmware yesterday, everything went
fine, and the beta is looking rather shiny, however I have come
across one slight problem, in that I am unable to log on to either my
jabber.org account or my gmail.com Gtalk account, and I'm currently
wondering if it's because both usernames begin with the number 1, I'm
going to test this in a moment by creating a new Jabber device just
to see if it's just my 770 or not.
(This happens under both wifi and via my 3G phone, and in both cases
no network activity is shown in the Connections Manager while
attempting to log in.)

I agree. All my computers that I own personally are in storage in
Australia (or in racks somewhere) the only machine I have that is mine
is my N770. I want to use it as a sort of device to store all my
contacts centrally. I'm hoping that when OpenedHand release their sync
app for the 770 (see PR here
http://openedhand.com/pr/openedhand-pr-03.txt) I'll be able use it as
a central storage for my contacts etc and have them sync to my server.

OpenedHand also has a contacts app that talked to EDS (which i think
the N770 one is based apon) so it may compile and work on the 770 as
an alternative http://projects.o-hand.com/contacts

Ah, it was a Pacal *compiler* and the binary is compiled Pascal binary,
not bytecoded Pascal script run through pcode interpreter?

Yes, it would need to support EABI for the generated binaries to be able
to interface with the libraries on the target...

I agree, I end up carrying around my PDA and the 770 just because the

Home phone
Work Phone
Other Email / URL

Right, so really we just need to be able to choose any field eds
supports and add it, I guess.

I'd put money on it being the ABI change. The page which smartkenny
mentioned said it was unpacked from an ARM Linux tarball - this'll no
longer work, of course.

Ah, it was a Pacal *compiler* and the binary is compiled Pascal binary,

Yes, it's compiled to a binary. Not a script.

Yes, it would need to support EABI for the generated binaries to be able
to interface with the libraries on the target...

Could you please tell me how to do this?
Thank you. I am also contacting with FPC developers on this point. Hope
we can solve this problem.

Hi, Eero and Andrew,

I contacted with Daniël who is a FPC developer, and he want to ask the
following questions:

Can you ask them what the different between EABI and normal cdecl calling
convention is? Obviously, since GTK is C code, all interfacing to it is
expected to have cdecl calling convention.

We support for ARM:
- Cdecl
- CPPcdecl - same as cdecl but with different name mangling
- Stdcall
- Stdcall with floating point numbers handled like equal integers (called
  softfloat by us).

Greetings,

Daniël

[maemo-developers] IT2006 image public release will include libsdl_ttf?

2006-06-13 Thread Uwe Koch
Hi,

i just compiled sdl_ttf library and installed it on the 770 successfully.
But when I tried to install it under scratchbox to compile my
main program it failed because the lib already exists!

I saw many sdl libs already in the SDK but not in the
Beta release on the 770.

Does anybody know if they will be delivered in the public release or
shall I deliver them again like in the IT2005 release?

Regards
Uwe Koch, Hannover, Germany

Re: [maemo-developers] Disable virtual keyboard

2006-06-13 Thread Antti Ijäs
Hi,

There are several ways to disable the virtual keyboard, this is one that
I would prefer:

You can edit the file /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules and comment the two
lines with the name hildon attached to them (keep the X Input Method in
place though).

If you want to disable it for a selected list of apps, you can point the
enviroment variable 'GTK_IM_MODULE' to a different immodule file when
you run the application like this:

export GTK_IM_MODULE=/etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules_one_that_I_just_saved

Not exactly a programming interface but I hope this is good enough :)

AFAIK Gtk in the device is compiled with -mthumb. This is not
compatible with non-thumb code unless EABI is used. (And EABI
is not compatible with non-EABI using code, but maybe by accident
it might in some cases appear "to work"?)

I think this should provide all the required information:
http://wiki.debian.org/ArmEabiPort

EABI allows mixing libraries with hardfloat, shoftfloat and thumb
code. I.e. one can decide per library/binary what is the best
compromise between speed and memory usage. (In some cases softfloat
might even be faster than "hardfloat" although device would have FPU
because the kernel might need to emulate some features missing from
the FPU. Doing emulation on the user-space is usually faster because
you avoid context switches. :-))
