libconic deals only with requesting a network connection from icd. No

There are no API changes, only bugfixes. The previous document is very

I have noticed quite a few issues with the new site as well. I was
going to wait for an official announcement before I started filing
bugs but maybe there isn't going to be one?

So, will there be something sent out or put up in the documentation
that explains the workings of this new site? Some questions off the
top of my head are:

What is a pearl? How does it get there?
Why does it say "10 votes" for an application, but I only see 4?
Why do some comments have a blank name?
Can you leave a comment for an application without voting for it?

Right, well it looks like the driver should produce a /proc/pvr entry
and should also be visible in /proc/devices as pvrsrv. Neither of these
happens. Strangely the module stays loaded though. Time for more

N810 availability?

2007-11-19 Thread Andrew Flegg
Hi,

With the N810 being launched in the US[1] and getting into the hands
of users[2], it seems that both the rest of the world; and device
programme discount codes are being missed out[3].

Is there an update on timescales for widespread availability? Although
the SDK's been available for a while, I know many people are reluctant
to release apps without having tested them on a device themselves.
It'd be a shame for lots of end-users to get the device before the
developers have a chance to test and release their apps.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Re: new pygtk module with glade support

2007-11-19 Thread Luciano Miguel Wolf
Hi Jesse,

Looks like we have a problem here. I did everything under sbox, using
the final SDK. Developers just need to run an "apt-get update && apt-get
upgrade" and this new pygkt will be installed. But now I've noticed that
ApplicationManager doesn't allow to update libglade(from 2.4 to 2.6).
Any PyGtk since v2.8 needs libglade >= 2.5 to compile. We are using
v2.12. I will ask somebody at Maemo/Nokia to update this package.

PowerVR

2007-11-19 Thread Simon Pickering
Hello all,

As some of you may know there's a 2.6.x package of binaries available
from Ti for the OMAP2430 (the link for the OMAP2420 re-directs to these
files).

http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbugencontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12700&contentId=27458

Specifically:

OpenSource Kernel v2.6.10
Open GL ES v1.1 and OpenVG 1.0 SDK based on OMAPSW vL16.4 BSP, use
GCC-3.4.4 Tool Chain

Curiously the kernel module in this SDK is compiled for 2.6.14, but anyway...

Anyway we were chatting on IRC and wondering whether they can be made
to work somehow. There is the obvious problem of the wrong kernel
version but this can be forced and then one runs into the undefined
symbols.

To solve both these problems I used this script (thanks X-Fade for the
pointer):

#==
#! /bin/bash
MI=/tmp/modinfo

[ -z "$DEPMOD" ] && DEPMOD=depmod

#new kernel version modinfo section
# alter this version to match what's running on your N800
# `uname -r'
echo -ne "kernel_version=2.6.21-omap1\0" > $MI

#build the objcopy command
CMD="objcopy"

#fix symbols which don't exist in the new kernel
# I chose random names to rename these symbols
# they exist in exports from the kernel module but are not called
# by any of the files contained in the SDK so I thought it was safe
# to get rid of them
CMD="$CMD --redefine-sym=pci_bus_write_config_dword=sprintf"
CMD="$CMD --redefine-sym=pci_find_slot=printk"
CMD="$CMD --redefine-sym=pci_bus_read_config_dword=snprintf"

# these two look like the original names have been wrapped
CMD="$CMD --redefine-sym=__arch_copy_from_user=__copy_from_user"
CMD="$CMD --redefine-sym=__arch_copy_to_user=__copy_to_user"

#replace the modinfo section with the new one
CMD="$CMD --remove-section=.modinfo --add-section=.modinfo=$MI"
CMD="$CMD $*"

#run the command
$CMD

#remove the section file
rm -f $MI

#==

After doing this the kernel module can be modprobed (move it to
/lib/modules/`uname -r'/) and it creates sysfs entries. I think there
should be a /dev entry created, I have to look into the name and
numbers and see if I need to create it myself (it may be that the
driver waits for a connection before doing so I suppose).

Next step was to look at the other binaries in the SDK. I chose
power_test to test producing the following:

Nokia-N800-:/home/user/pvr# /lib/ld-linux.so.3 --list ./power_test
./power_test: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.0' not found (required
by ./power_test)
./power_test: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.1' not found (required
by /home/user/pvr/libsrv_um_1.1.33.561.so)
./power_test: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.0' not found (required
by /home/user/pvr/libsrv_um_1.1.33.561.so)
 libsrv_um_1.1.33.561.so =>
/home/user/pvr/libsrv_um_1.1.33.561.so (0x40004000)
 libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x4122)
 libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x41028000)
 /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.3 (0x2a00)

So an older version of libc and the ABI. suihkulokki suggested using an
old ABI chroot setup. Any other thoughts (or anyone who fanices trying
that)? Alternatively one could probably build an image that uses the
old ABI using bitbake/OE or Mamona, and also match the libc and xserver
versions to boot.

Unless anyone has any other suggestions I think that is what I'll do
once I have an N810 to use day-to-day. If we can both insert the kernel
module and run the binaries it should be possible to eavesdrop on the
communications between the user-space-side server thread and the kernel
driver itself and try to work out how it all fits together (so it can
be used in a more up-to-date system).

I'm not sure whether the fact that this SDK is for the OMAP2430 will
cause issues.

I'm also not sure whether there's many/any modifications to the x-server.

Cheers,

Simon

Other bugfixes and unstable modules, like python-launcher, will be

Ok. I don't explained it well.

Try it changing "$(MAKE) DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/spim install" for
"$(MAKE) DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/tmp install"

Sometimes the temporary files go to debian/tmp and sometimes it go to
debian/package_name.

I don't know very well why, but I think it's something related to
debian/compat.

installing .deb to N800

2007-11-19 Thread Tripti Gupta
I am wondering if what I am doing is correct.. as
finally my device is not installing the package.
I am creating .deb on scratchbox with ARMEL target.
The .deb created on X86 target successfully installs
on my SDK and I can see it working. Now i want to see
it on my N800.
Just a .deb created on ARMEL target doesn't work for
N800?
Is there anything that I am missing?

Yes. Not sure about unix name but it seems to work.

Exactly. I feel you pain too, see http://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2121

I my case I even have exactly the same binary for all systems so making
3 pages for it is just pure annoyance.

Confused about Application Catalog

2007-11-19 Thread Graham Cobb
I went to update the Application Catalog entries for the GPE applications to
make them available for OS2008 and have ended up very confused. It looks as
though each application now has a completely separate page for each OS
version.  Is that right?

I am sure that in the past we had a single page and we could add and remove
availability on different OS releases on the single page. But now when I
find a page for one of the apps and then click on Page/Edit the OS dropdown
box only contains one version. And the IT2006 and IT2007 pages for a single
app have different comments.

I notice that the IT2006 page for gpe-calendar seems to have been created on
6th November (although not by anyone in particular). At about the same time
that the revision histories all started filling up with crap (see bug #2327).

What I really want to know is how to update the pages so that they are
available for IT2008. Do I create a new page (even though the "unix name"
will be the same)?

This seems a retrograde step as it is useful to just have one page for
comments, one page to update if the app moves, etc. Was it announced here
and I missed it?

A diff from 3.2 and 4.0 libconic's headers show that the only changes
are in the comments (Renaming type from OssoIc* to ConIc*). The same
applies to this [1] version of libconic.

So, looks like that the bora/3.2 guide and examples can work without
further modifications in chinook/4.0, unless there are other changes
not documented (yet).

Yes, it is just renamed on disk to not to conflict with the original one
in case someone has modules in rootfs in /lib/modules/2.6.16.27-omap1
too. Internal module name set at compile time is still cx3110x.

I am not an expert packer, so I can say something that isn't true.

In the debian/rules of Debian distro for spim, the install order is
'dh_install' instead of '$(MAKE) DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/spim install'
in your debian/rules file. That could be the problem. I suppose
changing only it should give you the same problem, I do not know.

Another thing that I have noticed is that if debian/compat is 4,
DESTDIR it would be like yours 'DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/spim',
but if there isn't debian/compat or have other value, it could install
something (for example binary files) in 'DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/tmp'
and others (for example documents, for dh_installdocs order) in
debian/spim. Or on the contrary, I don't remember very well.
Something similar has happened to me sometime.

I hope that what I say isn't a barbarity ;)

Cheers.

Ok.
But Moblin stays for:

Moblin - Samsung supported project (Intel) vs. maemo - Nokia supported project

Either C54x architecture is more limited (no MMU? no space for
multitasking core like DSP BIOS?) or this is really quick student hack
for G-SoC without deep research for existing alternatives.

Well the EULA says that it should be used only with TI development board
   (without exact definition what it is) so I am not sure that open
source code can be compiled with it and result published for usage with
770 or N8x0 even if our tablets contain silicon made by TI and it is

mamona release

2007-11-19 Thread pancake
Hi Rodrigo!

I'm glad to see the first mamona release.

I have noticed that the instructions for using 0x are incorrect.

We want to provide users with a fully free stack, and it would be confusing
them to
make them think they need the privative flasher, when that hasn't been true
anymore.

So dupping the help for both flashers can be anoying.

Here's the page:

  http://dev.openbossa.org/trac/mamona/wiki/RunningMamona

The right way to flash a firmware piece would be:

  $ 0x -p rootfs.jffs2

It should automagically detect that this is a rootfs piece, but you can also
specify it:

  $ 0x -p rootfs:rootfs.jffs2

If you find it interesting you can also explain how to pack/unpack fiasco
images:

  $ 0x -P my-fiasco.img rootfs.jffs2

I hope to have enought disk and time space to have a closer look to the Mamona
framework
this week, so I have read the FAQ and find it quite interesting in contrast to
the
scratchbox one.

Best regards.

This is interesting, mainly for the dspfs and the request for more
access to the IVA. Thanks for the link.

I had a look at the DaVinci processor information available from Ti and
it seems they don't really want to give much away (probably because
this is their current main model line or something like that).

We do already have a Linux Ti toolchain (
https://www-a.ti.com/downloads/sds_support/targetcontent/LinuxDspTools/index.html)
 which is for the C55x only (i.e. is useful to us). I'm not sure the release of
another (similar afaict) toolchain for the C54x will make any odds to us

I'm not suprised. If you make a hack something like that, some
software parts might (will?) be broken.
