Hugh,

I can't seem to reproduce this. Was your login before or after the 7
days specified?

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 890929] Re: When a user is expired due to inactivity, they can still log in

2011-11-20 Thread Hugh Davenport
I think it had something funny with the cronjob running it needed time
to rethink it

I would say it was after the 7 days, I actually set the
defaultaccountinactiveexpire setting to something very low (so email got
sent but wasn't actually an extra 7 days iirc). But I had to force the
cronjob to run twice, so that it set the active flag to 0 in usr table.

Though we should probably wait the 7 days really, but yeh... I didn't
want to wait that long :D

UPDATE cron SET nextrun=NULL WHERE

Content Journal link & dashboard journal display differently

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:

Bug description:
Upgraded to Mahara 1.40 this summer. Users are taken to a default "my
name's blog" when clicking on the journal link under the content tab -
with no option to add a new journal or to display any others that they
might have created. If the same users click on the "Publish a Journal'
link on the dashboard the button to create a new journal, and any
other journals are also visible. The hyperlink from each of these two
links appears to be the same.

I've encountered the issue when working with staff who had Mahara
accounts before the upgrade, as well as new students - when clicking
on either link, I (the administrator) see the option to create a new
journal and all my existing journals, but others who have a second
journal don't see it when clicking on the journal link under the tabs.

I've found the reference to opting to have multiple journals from the
individual's acount settings but this issue is really confusing our
users who are encouraged to keep separate journals for different
purposes. If I had option to enable multiple journals globally by
default that would help - but users should see the all of their
journals and ideally the same 'create' option from the tab link that
  they see from the dashboard.

mahara.org wiki documentation needs to be updated for 1.3 and 1.4

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Mahara wiki content needs an overhaul to bring it into line with 1.3
  and 1.4 versions.

A lot of the existing 'User Guide' content doesn't seem to have been
updated since ~2008 and it'd be good to separate the information out
on the wiki into the two versions, much like how Moodle has gone about
  1.9 vs 2.0 documentation.

Roadmap could also do with some structure and collation so information
can be easily seen when new 1.5 roadmap specification items are added
under a separate section. It might be a good idea to try and avoid
having wishlist items there anyway and keep those discussions on
forums and here in launchpad before moving to the wiki as official
  design specifications/roadmap when ready.

  Ideas:
  - Roadmap -> 1.3/1.4 -> items/details -> specification (if available;
removing "wishlist")
  - User Guides -> 1.3/1.4 -> Dashboard/Content/Porfolio etc
  - Site Administration Guides -> 1.3/1.4 -> General/Groups/Users/Institutions
etc
  - Institution Administration Guides -> 1.3/1.4 ->

Themes - has the design of this changed much between versions?
System Adminstration Guide - is it worth separating this out for ease of
finding information? does it vary much?
Language Packs - already has version availability table
Plugins - shall we create versions here too and plugin maintainers can add
information when/if a plugin is upgraded for new versions? Or copy somewhat the
way that Language packs are currently maintaining supported versions?

Some of the content might not change that much between versions but it
might be worth separating that out now while we can to future proof
for bigger version differences in those areas.

I have only been looking at the English documenation. :)

However if I add the feed into an RSS block in Moodle when the titles

Title:
  Mahoodle login problem

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  as per http://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=3762

Here is just the description with the description

The mahara lib/version.php file I have says 1.3.6 though. The moodle's
  version.php shows 2.0.2

In Mahara, if the institution has only XMLRC authentication, or
has others but XMLRC is given no parent, then the problem occurs
exactly as I've described (user data transfers to Mahara from Moodle,
but user cannot get passed 'logged out user home' and is never asked
  to change password)

However, If I put Internal auth as a parent to XMLRC on the
institution, then I get a go around, by the following odd set of
  events occuring:

I click the Mahara link under network servers in Moodle, and get
brought to the logged out user home in Mahara
I do nothing in Mahara, and I go back to Moodle, and click the Mahara
link again from the network servers block.
This time, I get transferred to the 'change password' page in Mahara
and it says on the side (in Mahara) that I am coming in from Moodle.
After submitting the changed password in Mahara, I get transferred
once again to the logged out home. But this time, since internal is the auth
parent, I can log in with the password that was just set.
No matter which way I order the auths in the institution, the new
user from Moodle defaults to Internal Auth. I can log in as admin in Mahara and
change the user's auth method. Then with the auth method changed to XMLRC, the
user (once logged into Mahara) can jump back and forth between Moodle and
Mahara. However, the user still needs to initially log in to Mahara, Moodle
still won't send the user straight in.

So, in conclusion, I have a weird go around that my students can
manage to use, with me having to go into each user account and change
the auth method) - but this really does seem like it should be an easy
fix. When porting over through XMLRC, Mahara just seems to be setting
some value incorrectly which is sending the user to the wrong page.

Also, the wantsurl doesn't seem to be getting set, it just shows
wantsurl= with nothing after the '=' in the redirect. And if there's a
place in moodle to set it for the jump, I don't see where.

Of course, maybe it is still something to do with my setup. I have
moodle and mahara on the same server, and I know nothing about
  OpenSSL.

Hopefully this detailed description will help someone see what the
  problem is.

Title:
  New quota limit policy

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Following François' request, I ask my question and give a proposal
  about quota here.

In the master branch you add new quota policy for groups and
institutions. The help text says that the new quota enter here will
affect only new group's member or new institution's member; previous
group/institution's member will see their quota remained the same as
  before.

This is pretty good if the previous quota is higher than the new
policy but what happens if the quota decided by the group ou
  institution admin is higher ?

Normaly Mahara should then update the quota to the higher number.

If it is not the way Mahara behaves it should. If it is already the
case, the help section has to be updated to explain that if previous
quota for already enrolled users will remain the same or upgraded if
the new setting is higher than before.

  Regards,
  -dajan

user. The result was:
  - that the request/add and the removal of a friend was successful but
  - a white screen was shown in the browser & a error-output was caused in the

As the admin of mahra-installation the request and remove of a friend

  Thank for any help!

attached screenshot from a real Mahara.org forum).

  I propose this:

  - remove the group name and the forum name from the subject line
  - create a new X-Mahara-Group header for the group name
  - create a new X-Mahara-Forum header for the forum name
  - only include the thread topic in the subject line of emails

This would make the subject line useful again and it would still allow

filters would be based on the new headers instead of the subject
  line).

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 892933] Re: Update string for deleteviewconfirmnote

2011-11-20 Thread Richard Mansfield
Launchpad and other po tools will see all these updates without us
having to change the keys, so it's not as important as it used to be. I
guess we should still change keys while some translators are using the
old system, but it'd be nice if we didn't have to.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 548061] Re: Multiple authinstances with parents - potentially needs UI work.

2011-11-20 Thread François Marier
** Tags removed: mahara-eduforge-bug

** Description changed:

An example situation: Two Moodles are SSOing into Mahara. They are both
set up as XMLRPC with an LDAP parent.

This breaks when each Moodle has a user of the same username. For
example aaron. Because one is given the name 'aaron' when they SSO in,
and the other is given the name 'aaron1' - which will never work for the
parent authentication, as it doesn't know about an 'aaron1' user.

  Therefore, that means either:

  1. Only one of the xmlrpc authinstances can have a given LDAP server as
parent authentication, across all institutions in Mahara, or
  2. Usernames would have to be unique across BOTH Moodles, to prevent this
situation occuring, or
  3. You need to turn on the usersuniquebyusername configuration setting -
which assumes that users with the same name in different moodles are the same
person and thus SSO into the same Mahara account.

There's no other way around this, as far as I can see.

  The upshot of this is:

- You can't use two parent authentication instances that will answer
+ You can't use two parent authentication instances that will answer
for the same username, unless they're actually the same person in the
remote applications. And if that is the case, you have to turn on
"usersuniquebyusername". If that is not the case, then the XMLRPC
authinstances can't really have parents - users have to sign in through
  SSO.

+ If you're only MNETting with one moodle, then the authinstance can
  safely have a parent.

Richard suggests that we could somehow display to people in Mahara their
username (perhaps on first login, sent to them by e-mail and in the
profile sideblock), which _might_ work as long as we use the
auth_remote_user table to look up what their username in the parent
authinstance actually is when trying to sign them on. But it also relies
on users understanding when they are using the Mahara login form instead
of the Moodle one, and thus that they should use the correct username.

So, in short, this bug is about:

  * Do we change the admin UI somehow based on these limitations? I.e.
only allow one authinstance to have a parent unless
usersuniquebyusername is on/the admin is given a warning about having
  more than one parent?

  * Do we tell users their username in Mahara so they can log in there?

Low prio cos I don't think an answer is needed right now, but at least
the problem is documented while I have it all in my head :)

My Portfolio search results format is too bare

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Invalid

Bug description:
When you use the 'Search My Portfolio' box, regardless of how the
results are found, the results format is very bare. It's hard to tell
what kind of result you have just found (folder, blog/blog post etc.),
the solr search snippets are broken in that they include html that is
not necessarily closed, the internal search doesn't even do snippets,
and the results in general could do with a lot of graphic design work.

This probably will require quite a bit of work, for example in order
to make the internal search do snippets or some acceptable
  alternative.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 548327] Re: Users should have one directory that can't be removed

2011-11-20 Thread François Marier
** Tags removed: mahara-eduforge-bug

** Description changed:

The 'viewfiles' copying debacle and related discussion suggests we
should have a directory for all users what can't be deleted, whose ID is
known to the view copying/blog file uploading code.

This is a directory that can be renamed, and even moved around in a
user's file structure. And it can have files/folders inside it, which
can be moved in and out. But the directory cannot be removed.

That directory ID is known by the code. When views are copied, the
folder which contains files copied from that View is put in this
  nondeletable folder.

This stops the problem of copying a folder named 'viewfiles' causing an
  infinite loop.

The blogfiles folder can be replaced with using this folder too.

This means we can remove some code from public static function
  change_language in lib/user.php.

example2.zip (leap version 2010-07) doesn't import yet (dies where the

The resume 'composite' items still make heavy use of tablerenderer,

Bug description:
Video files that can be embedded into a block can have a description.
It only shows up when the files is added via "File(s) to download" or

have the description show up below the video, e.g. to give brief
instructions to start the video, display the credit etc. because then

is dragged into a view, the Personal Information (that is filled out
on the Cover Letter page) is pulled into the view even if there is no
information in the fields. I'm guessing that this happens only if
"Save" is selected for that region on the Cover Letter page. It is
not dependent on whether there is information in the cover letter
field or not. There is no way to "unsave" it later.

  To clarify:

-in the cover letter/resume area of "My Profile": if an individual
selects the "Save" button underneath "Personal Information", those
fields will automatically be added to a view whenever the "Entire
Resume" block is added, even if there is no information in any of
those fields. It appears that there is no way to "unsave" that
  information.

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In Mahara 1.3, when clicking on a blog post in the tag result list,
you are taken to the edit mode of the blog post. I don't think that is
reasonable as you often just want to go to the blog post but not edit
it. It would be better to just link to the blog post instead of the
  edit page for it.

Title:
  Resizing embedded Youtube in blog

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I would like to embed videos in my blog posts rather than making them an
'object' on a portfolio.
Mahara supports this, but I can't get the videos to constrict to the proper
dimensions on the portfolio view despite having the correct parameters in the
code.

  My portfolio: http://goo.gl/F90bj
You'll notice one of my videos is misbehaving and is very large despite the
parameters in the code for it to be 280x235.

Any help is MUCH appreciated!! Thank you!!
  -Bob

Allow sso in both directions when usersuniquebyusername is on

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/547564 we removed the option
to set up sso in both directions between Moodle and Mahara, because it
doesn't work, it just creates duplicate accounts.

However if the undocumented usersuniquebyusername option is enabled,
then sso in both directions can work and we should add a 3rd option to
  the drop-down.

  See http://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=2438

Title:
Mahara in promiscuous mode does not set up authentication plugin for
  incoming peers

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Reproduce:
  =
  1. Install Mahara 1.3
  2. Enable networking and set 'Auto-register all hosts' to 'Yes'
  3. Install Moodle 2.0
  4. In Moodle, add Mahara as a new peer and setup SSO so that Moodle users can
roam to Mahara

  Expected behaviour

A new institution for Moodle is created and their users can roam to Mahara
immediately without any action needed from Mahara administration

  Actual behaviour
  =
A new institution for Moodle is created but the authentication plugin for
this institution is not configured and must be added manually.

Environment: up-to-date git checkouts of 1.3_STABLE (Mahara) and
  cvshead (Moodle)

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 703980] Re: personal information pulled into add resume even if there is nothing in it

I think I had fixed this as part of
fcbca84bda50cee93a5e2843933c6ab9e87900f9 (bug #744165) but apparently
not.

Title:
personal information pulled into add resume even if there is nothing
  in it

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I am currently using Mahara 1.3.0rc. When the "Entire Resume" block
is dragged into a view, the Personal Information (that is filled out
on the Cover Letter page) is pulled into the view even if there is no
information in the fields.
