Re[4]: [Mailman-Users] Help Newbie trying to get working..

2003-03-26 Thread ghhalley

Thanks.. I am actually brand new... never even touched anything Linux
before. I come from a Networking Background (mostly MS, Cisco and firewalls)
and in the past I have had to setup network configs to work with Sun Servers
running apache sometimes dibbling in the Sun's config files. But that is
pretty much the extent of it. So I appreciate your help, it's comforting to
know that there are people out there willing to lend a hand to a needy
network guy.

Ahhh, That make sense. You'll be surprised by how easy the really bad
problems are to fix in Linux.

OK. So my big problem that took me all day was the silly little move of the
mailman config file to the conf.d directory - thanks..

Now I can access the pages over the network and feel like I'm making some
headway.

1. Is the administration done entirely through the Web Admin? How do access
and configure MailMan options?

You can do it both ways, except for the changes in the alias files.
Those you will need to hand poke. I suggest the program emacs, if you
don't have a favorite way to do this. The changes are really pretty
simple -- its a text file, with three pieces.

# Comment lines
and then the email address and its relay, typically in the form

George:
which would send all email to to my email
account.

This gets a little stickier if you are using multiple domains and we
will not get into this in this email.

After hand poking the changes, you will need to type newaliases on the
command line. You will get a statement back showing the db has been
updated. And then you need to restart sendmail by services sendmail
restart This will cause the changes to be received.

2. How do I change the @localhost.localdomain convention to specify the
domain I want?

This is a little trickier question. I'm guessing you might need to do
some more network configuration for the box.

Did you set a local name in the /etc/sysconfig/network file? If not,
you need to set this up. If I remember right, there is good
documentation in the RH 8 Reference Guide. Red Hat has pdf and html
versions of it on their website. When I started learning Red Hat, I
used those guides alot. They are not exhaustive by any means, but
they will get you going. Then the man or info commands and the
readme's have almost everything else.

3.I do not want anyone to send email to this box - I just want it to be able
to send out daily newsletters. I want the reply address to be a user on my
Exchange Server --my corp mail server-- who can receive replies in his
Outlook Inbox.

This brings up a major question of configuration. Typically Mailman
uses confirmation emails for new subscriptions. You will have to go
through the configuration files and turn off this capability. Mailman
by default is not set up as a Newsletter list, but rather as a
Discussion list. There are default settings, you will want to change
for it to work this way. My primary purpose is also as a Newsletter
list. FAQ 3.11 describes the basic changes you need to make. I'm in
the process of implementing it.

4. That being the case (#3) do I need to setup external DNS with MX records
for this server?

not sure. I use DNS to direct traffic to my website and to route
emails to the server. If you completely turn off in-coming emails and
you can get around the web traffic necessary, you can probably turn
off DNS. But, I'm not an authority in this area. You might want to
try a separate post with different heading to this list and the RH 8
list.

Thanks for your help...

And on the second email...

Ooh one other thing -

1. How can I test that Mailman is working with sendmail correctly?

You can check Sendmail, by making a change in the alias file to send
to you and then trying it.

Otherwise, you can set up your first list and send to it.

Or if you think everything is working, but don't get a response, check
FAQ 3.14

Thanks all

John,

Comments are in-line with your questions. BTW How Newbie are you with
Linux? Its hard to tell from your EMails -- Sounds like you are brand
new to RH8, but do you have experience with other releases? I will
modify my explanations depending on your knowledge. For example, I've
played around on RH 6.2 box for two years as a part time job.

Thanks for your info George..

A few more questions.

1. I installed the MailMan package during the Red Hat Server installation.
It look like it installed MAILMAN in /var/mailman/

Good -- That is what I did, too.

It seems to have done a few of the steps for me - create a mailman user
and
Mailman group.

Good -- and you should have a mail user and group for Sendmail and
a Apache user and group for Apace. All three users are needed for
Mailman

Re: [Mailman-Users] Help! Problems :(

2003-03-20 Thread ghhalley
Nicole,

For months now, AOL subscribers have been complaining about lost
emails from mailing lists. AOL has a very aggresive anti-spam policy.
This sounds suspiciously like one of their cases, especially if you
moved the list to a IP address AOL has tagged as a spammer. You can
find more info at a lot of places, but here are some starters:

http://www.plaidworks.com/chuqui/blog/000118.html#000118
http://www.mailinglists.org/aol/
http://topica.com/lists/topica-insider/read/message.html?mid=1711351060

I have personal examples of a single address email not arriving
(multiple times) to my boss's email box.

The ugly thing about this problem, is that AOL automatically deletes
the email with no notification to the sender or the AOL user. They
just disappear.

[Mailman-Users] help with bin/remove_members with 2.09

2003-03-08 Thread Mark Rauterkus

Hi All,

I goofed and nuked the bin/remove_members, in Mailman 2.09.
(Virtual server with FreeBSD, hosted at Bluehill.com.)

A friend sent me the file for Mailman 2.13. I've put it back into the proper
director, but no luck.

At the telenet:
% virtual bin/remove_members --fromall
virtual: unable to execute bin/remove_members: No such file or directory

Yet other tools in the /bin work like above, listmembers, find_member, and
so on.

Perhaps the wrong verion matters? Perhaps because the remove_members was
from a Linux install and not a FreeBSD install?

So, if anyone can help, I'd love to use remove_members without needing to
unpack the entire distro.

Ta.

It sounds like you haven't setup the link to the mailman wrapper. Read
README.SENDMAIL from the mailman sources and search the archives. This is a
FAQ.

A better answer might be: Switch to Postfix. It has better integration with
Mailman and much simpler configuration.

Hello,

From the subject line you appear to be aware of smrsh. Have you made
sure that there is an entry in the /etc/smrsh directory for mailman's
wrapper program? Consult the mailman installation instructions for more
details on this. This step is required to make mailman operate with
sendmail.

Re: [Mailman-Users] Help

2003-02-23 Thread Jon Carnes
Check your Mail logs (and the Mailman logs). Sounds like you are
running a virtual domain and the Mail setup is not yet working
properly. A common problem is to setup a catch-all address for a domain
and all mail ends up going there (as opposed to going to one of the
Mailman aliases or one of the local users).

Good Luck - Jon Carnes

[Mailman-Users] Help with user_optionsurl

2003-02-23 Thread Paul Kleeberg
Forgive me if I am missing the obvious. I asked this last week and
did not see any replies but since I still have not figured it out, I
thought I should ask again.

I want to personalize the footers in the messages of my lists as
described in a post by Jon Carnes on 2/1 and repeated on 2/20 but I
find that the variable user_optionsurl uses the hostname from
/etc/hosts and not the one that is configured using DEFAULT_URL_HOST
or DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST within mm_cfg.py. Is there a way to change
that so that it reflects the preferred hostname? If there is not I
will change the name in /etc/hosts but I am trying to avoid that.

Cool. More detail... So folks external to you can get to the Listinfo
web-page for your list, but when they press the submit button they get
an error???

Or did you write your own subscribe web-page and it is not working to
subscribe folks?

[Mailman-Users] Help with sending HTML mail and using external weblinks for images

2003-01-22 Thread Mark C
Hi,

I'm wishing to send out a newletter once a month to several people in
HTML, and rather than put the image directly in the email (to save
bandwidth), it it possable to link it in with the email, so when they
read it, it downloads it from the website (this will be a special
directory on the mailman server), rather than have it as an attatchment

I have tried creating a creating a html mail in mozilla, and then
putting in a href, but that just print the link into it.

Is this at all possable.

Cheers

Re: [Mailman-Users] Help with sending HTML mail and using externalweblinks for images

2003-01-22 Thread Jon Carnes
Yes. Marketing folks do it all the time. If you want a live example of
an email that does this, just open up some spam from your mailbox and
peruse the source/content of the email.

Spammers us this technique all the time as a means of registering that
the email arrived at an actual email address and was read. When a
person opens the email, their Email App does a web look-up and down
loads images from a website. One of the image pull downs will reference
the email address (or group of email addresses) that the spam was sent
to.

This gives the spammers loads of info about the user:
 - verifies the email address as valid and used
 - indicates the users ip address, OS, and email client

Take care - Jon Carnes

BTW: Linux on the desktop helps break this invasion of privacy. My
Evolution email client is set to not download images from html email.
Though I can click on the email and have it download if I want it to.

This isn't really a Mailman issue, other than to configure the list to
pass the MIME content you want to pass through. I'm sure there's some
MIME goo you can add to your attachments to get (some) mail readers to
display the image inline, but off-hand I don't remember what they are
and I don't have access to the RFCs at the moment. I'm guessing some
kind of multipart/related with a Content-Disposition: inline thingie.

What are you using as your MTA. If it's Postfix then read the
README.POSTFIX that comes with the install.

If you are using sendmail then check the aliases in /etc/aliases and
make sure that you don't have a typo for the alias cabin-request

Re: [Mailman-Users] Help with a regular expression

2003-01-18 Thread Greg Westin
I think what you want to do to fix this is add a carat (^) before the
first slash:
RedirectMatch ^/mailman[/]*$ http://www.example.com/mailman/listinfo

That way, it only catches it if /mailman occurs at the beginning of
the string.

Personally, I use a little more inclusive regular expression, because I
want it to also redirect any requests for the top level
(http://lists.example.com) to the listinfo page:
RewriteRule ^[/]{0,1}(mailman[/]{0,1}){0,1}$/mailman/listinfo
[L,R]

I claim to be no master of regular expressions, though... because wow
that looks ugly. That notwithstanding, I think my advice on your
situation is correct.

What's wrong with:

RedirectMatch permanent ^/mailman(|/)$ /mailman/listinfo

or, if you have mod_rewrite and the rewrite engine on:

RewriteRule ^/mailman(|/)$ /mailman/listinfo [R,L]

or even better:

RewriteRule ^/mailman(|/)$ /mailman/listinfo [PT]

The latter has the advantage, courtesy of the PT flag, of delivering the
/mailman/listinfo page immediately instead of making the browser do a
second request (each time it visits) to follow the redirection response
produced by the initial request, if that request's URI path was /mailman or
/mailman/

Re: [Mailman-Users] Help with a regular expression

2003-01-18 Thread Greg Westin
I don't know what the I or | or whatever that is does - I assume it
does the same thing as {0,1}. But the important difference between the
rule I use:
	RewriteRule ^/(mailman[/]{0,1}){0,1}$/mailman/listinfo [L,R]
and the ones you suggested is that mine also redirects requests for /
to /mailman/listinfo. You may or may not want that functionality, of
course. Again, I don't claim to be an expert in any of this stuff...
considering your comments, perhaps this would be the best for what I
want to do:
	RewriteRule ^/(mailman(|/)){0,1}$ /mailman/listinfo [PT]
I don't know if you can use nested parentheses, and I don't know if the
PT flag is something I'd want, but whatever works...

I think what you want to do to fix this is add a carat (^) before
the
first slash:
RedirectMatch ^/mailman[/]*$ http://www.example.com/mailman/listinfo

That way, it only catches it if /mailman occurs at the beginning of
the string.

Personally, I use a little more inclusive regular expression, because
I
want it to also redirect any requests for the top level
(http://lists.example.com) to the listinfo page:
RewriteRule ^[/]{0,1}(mailman[/]{0,1}){0,1}$/mailman/listinfo
[L,R]

What's wrong with:

RedirectMatch permanent ^/mailman(|/)$ /mailman/listinfo

or, if you have mod_rewrite and the rewrite engine on:

RewriteRule ^/mailman(|/)$ /mailman/listinfo [R,L]

or even better:

RewriteRule ^/mailman(|/)$ /mailman/listinfo [PT]

The latter has the advantage, courtesy of the PT flag, of delivering
the /mailman/listinfo page immediately instead of making the browser
do a second request (each time it visits) to follow the redirection
response produced by the initial request, if that request's URI path
was /mailman or /mailman/

I claim to be no master of regular expressions, though... because wow
that looks ugly. That notwithstanding, I think my advice on your
situation is correct.

[Mailman-Users] Help with content filtering ...

2003-01-15 Thread David Gibbs
Folks:

I'm trying to get content filtering working, but have run into a jam ...
I've got a subscriber that is using some weird email program called
Incredimail (or something like that). His posts seem to come through as
html only.

I've got content filtering activated, and the following values set:

filter_content = yes

filter_mime_types= (blank)

pass_mime_types=multipart/mixed
multipart/alternative
multipart/related
text/plain
text/html
application/pdf

convert_html_to_plaintext=yes

However, when this person posts, his message comes through as an attachment
... I looked in my mail spool file and found the message has the following
in the body ...

--===21910272910031159==
Content-Type: Multipart/related;
 type=multipart/alternative;
 boundary=Boundary-00=_95ORQL80

--Boundary-00=_95ORQL80
Content-Type: Text/Plain;
 charset=iso-8859-1
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

I am curious if this can travel as fixed-font. The spacing really goes
wacky in posted code. =0D
 =0D

snip

I'm using 'links' for html to text conversion.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

david

[Mailman-Users] Help: ImportError: No module named Mailman

2002-12-25 Thread Bruce Bates
Help:

I recently installed Mailman on my server (Solaris UNIX /SunOS) and I am
getting the following error message when python attempts to run the
programs (such as qrunner). Because the cron file is set up to run
grunner every minute I am getting 60+ error messages per hour in my email:

Traceback (most recent call last):
 File usr/local/mailman/cron/qrunner, line 83, in ?
from Mailman import mm_cfg
ImportError: No module named Mailman

I think the problem may lie in the paths.py file, but attempts to revise it
have had no effect.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure where you got that idea. In mailman 2.0.13, the only way to
unsubscribe via email is to use the password. The only way to have the
password mailed to you is via the web interface. Mailman 2.0.x isn't
really designed to be run without the web interface used at least some
of the time.

Re: [Mailman-Users] HELP! Getting different Import Error:python2.2/lib-dynload/_socket.so: bad ELF flags value: 256

2002-12-13 Thread Steve Rifkin
For that specific problem, we re-installed the previous version (2.1) of python,
and we do not get errors. Installing python 2.2 yields us the error. It's
pretty consistant in terms of when we put on 2.2, we get the error, but when we
put back 2.1, we're fine. So, we're at 2.1 and most things are working...
except for the list admin passwd authentication problem that I have submitted in
a different e-mail.

[Mailman-Users] HELP: server name in admin messages

2002-12-12 Thread Marcelo Assis
Folks,

Hi!

i posted this question yesterday, but got absolutely no response, and since
we have our server currently stopped because of this, i will ask again to
see if any kindred spirit might be able to offer us a little help.

The problem is we have configured a virtual domain for mailman, reflecting
a hostname
pointing to the mailman machine. It now seems that mailman uses the machiens
primary name in the URL included in the mails it sends out (administrative
messages - subscribes, unsubscribes, etc).

Example:
Mailman is installed on a server www.domain1.com, but the lists should work
with www.domain2.com. The list is accepting requests on the
, BUT, all the admin messages are sent out with urls
pointing to www.domain1.com/mailman/etc.

How can we get the per list configured name there? How can we configure all
server messages to use the list domain instead of the other one???

We greatly appreciate any kind of help!

thanks in advance,

marcelo

Re: [Mailman-Users] HELP: server name in admin messages

2002-12-12 Thread Jon Carnes
I assume you are using Mailman version 2.0.x...
In the web admin under General options near the bottom, change the
website address to the virtual website address (but first make sure that
you can access the admin for the list using that virtual website
address!).

You really want to move over the the latest Beta release (soon to be
production): 2.1.6. This version has much better handling of virtual
hosts.

Also, if you are using Sendmail, you should consider changing your MTA
over to Postfix which also makes handling virtual hosts much easier.

Good Luck - Jon Carnes

Weuse your mailman program to offer the

We have looked atour list settings andwe areset to have

[Mailman-Users] HELP! List admin passwords not working in Mailman2.0.13

2002-12-04 Thread Steve Rifkin
I have recently upgraded from a working Mailman 2.0.8 to version 2.0.13.
While Mailman 2.0.8 worked great, v2.0.13 is not totally working for me.

Since the upgrade, I am having a problem with LIST ADMIN PASSWORD
AUTHENTICATION via the web.

As a user subscribed to a list, I am able to (via the web interface)
successfully log in with the user list password to the user list options page.

However, as the LIST ADMIN, any time I now log into the LIST ADMIN screen with
the list admin password , I get authentication failed.

However, I CAN log into any list admin screen with the *site-wide* master
mailman admin password. I just cannot log into any list admin screens with
the list-admin.

Once I get into a *list admin* screen with the *site-wide password*, if I
change that specific list's LIST ADMIN password, and they try to login as the
LIST ADMIN, I still get an Authentication failed error.

So, is this a bug of some sort in v 2.0.13? I had no problems with 2.0.8.

Just a note too that I recently upgraded our Apache from 1.3.14 to 1.3.17.
Python is at 2.1 We tried Pyton 2.2.2, but we get dynlink errors (ELF) with
2.2.2, so we dropped back to 2.1.

Again, and this is important, everything worked with mailman 2.0.8. The
upgrade to 2.0.13 has caused the problems with List Admin authentications via
the web. Site-wide mailman and user mailman password authentication works
fine.

So, what could be happening? Is there anyway for the site admin to see the
list admin passwords to see what mailman thinks it has?

I considered downgrading back to Mailman 2.0.8, since that version had worked.
However, mailman will not let you downgrade. When I try to re-install 2.0.8,
it complains:

Downgrade detected, from version 0x2000df0 to version 0x20008f0
This is probably not safe. Exiting..

So, I need to stay at 2.0.13. How can I fix this bug with list admin
passwords for this version?

Also, how does one change a list admin's password at the command line? Or is
it only possible via the web?

Thanks in advance!

[Mailman-Users] help with a semi-complex filtering scheme

2002-11-29 Thread douglas repetto

hi,

i'm getting ready to move a largish (~1400 subscribers) from majordomo
to mailman. i've been running a bunch of mailman lists for a while now,
and they're all fine. but this particular list has a funny setup, and
i'm not sure if it can be duplicated under mailman.

the list has two modes, regular and digest. however, any mail that is
sent to the list with [ot] in the subject line only gets sent to the
regular list, and does NOT get added to the digest. i accomplished this
in majordomo via lots of headaches and whining and finally a couple of
dummy lists that redirect mail hither and thither.

i'm hoping that there's some simpler way to do this with mailman, but
having looked through the docs and config quite a bit i don't see it. i
know that i can just bounce things with [ot] in the subject, but that's
not at all what i need...

any ideas?

thanks,
douglas

[Mailman-Users] Help unsubscribing members

2002-11-19 Thread fish
I have several people listed on one of my lists that are giving me problems
(not the people, just their addresses). I have tried to unsubscribe the
member, but mailman tells me that they are not a member. On the
admin/membership page, their address shows up in the subscribed members
list, and when I run list_members from the prompt, their name is in the
list. I notice that they, and others that mailman says are not members all
have their address with a colon after (eg : )on the memberlist
page.

Does anyone know how I can remove these addresses from the list that mailman
says they are not on? (only one is a problem, but there are several
addresses with the colon afterward which mailman tells me are not subscribed
to that list)

Hello People

This is what I did, I configured my

there is nothing pending.

But on the other hand I can go the archives on the http

wrong here.

I am pulling my hair out here.

RE: [Mailman-Users] Help with sendmail mailman config

2002-11-08 Thread Jon Carnes
Are you sure your tcp stack is loaded and running properly. I believe
that 61 Connection refused is a problem communicating with your IP
stack (and not the MTA). Could your server be under load, or the IP
stack be flooded with requests?

If all that is fine then be sure that you have su'ed as user mailman
before doing any testing (like telnet 172.0.0.1 25).

This should check your local firewall to make sure that you allow
connections on port 25 from all interfaces including 127.0.0.1, and it
should check that your MTA is listening on the localhost interface.

Check your /etc/mail/access file and make sure that localhost and
127.0.0.1 are setup to allow relaying. Your machine probably has a name,
add that name to the access file and set it to allow relaying.

You can set the list to be Moderated, so that all messages must be
approved. You can also setup a sub-list of email addresses that are
allowed to post to the list without being moderated.

Dear Jon:

Sorry I sent this to the whole mailing list, but your email address
() did not take my send.

Thanks for the response. Does Mailman support the concept of anonymity?

For example, can the program allow users to designate a USER NAME and also
an email address that is verifiable?

The email list I am compiling is for those who are mentally ill, are
patients, or have relatives who are ill. The need for anonymity is high.

What do you suggest?

Thanks.

Re: [Mailman-Users] Help

2002-10-18 Thread Jon Carnes
This is not a function of Mailman.

I suggest that you setup a webform to mail to your list - an
unadvertised webform (advertised only via your list). Make sure you
hard-code the To: in the webform so that it only mails to your list.

This way, the mail comes from your webserver and not from the
individual. Can't get more anonymous than that in this day and age.

Note: this could be widely abused.

An alternative is to setup an anonymous re-mailer for your list. This
is basically an alias on your mailserver that is front-ended by a script
which removes the incoming headers and then remails the body to your
mailing list (as the anonymous user on your mailserver).

Most folks don't really worry about this type of thing anymore as bogus
email accounts are so easy to come by. Simply go to www.hotmail.com and
create an anonymous user, then mail-away!

Good Luck,

Jon Carnes

[Mailman-Users] Help for a new install on Linux

2002-10-03 Thread Mark Tilden

Ladies Gents:

I'm new to this, so please forgive me if these questions are basic:

I've installed mailman on my linux box and it seems to be for the most part
working, after some tweaking. I have run into two problems that have me
stumped, however:

1. I created a test list after I installed mailman. Unfortunately, the name
of the list contains spaces. That appears to cause numerous problems,
including for some reason a problem with the administration interface cookie
not working properly. However, the most curious, is that I can't delete the
list. I've tried running the rmlist script, and it appears to work, but the
mail list persists. I've tried putting the name in quotes. Any suggestions?

2. I created a second test list with no spaces in the name. It works better.
However, whenever I send mail to the list server, I get a loop back bounce
message from sendmail. Here's the message:

This is the Postfix program at host gateway.tildens.org.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that the message returned
below could not be delivered to one or more destinations.

For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can
delete your own text from the message returned below.

 The Postfix program

addresses. Then you want to use this email address in other lists.*

This works fine. The list can be setup as a standard mailing alias or
as a mailman list. If you want to limit use of the email address and you
want to intercept Mailman administration notes for the list, then you
should setup the list as a Mailman list - or front end the list with a
procmail script. Either of these will let you check various properties
of the header and dump email that is inappropriate.

Then when you have faculty that change their email addresses you can
simply change the address in one location.

Another solution to this is use some simple command line scripts to
manage your lists. That would give you one stop-shopping for making
changes to existing lists.

If the above does not help - can you be more specific as to what you
need? Perhaps provide a small example?

Take care - Jon Carnes

Can you help me out with something? CHIS has a listserv. I am familiar with
entering new names, correcting them, and un-subscribing them, but here's
the problem. I would like to make a couple of sections of the listserv a
global sub-list. In other words, using a familiar group, I'd like to have
faculty under one mail address that broadcasts to all. I.e., I'd like to be
able to pick Faculty and be able to limit the group for edits,
corrections, updates, etc. (in other words, a group cut-n-paste).

I don't know what this is technically called, but I've heard it referred to
as a global group list and an umbrella subset (the entire listserv is the
umbrella, and within the umbrella are several sub-sets). I'd appreciate any
insight you might be able to give me!

Response from our IT:

Sorry Emy, but I haven't heard of anything like that being applicable to
the Listserv software that we are using. We are currently using Mailman

Re: [Mailman-Users] Help for a new install on Linux

2002-10-03 Thread Jon Carnes

1) use a \ in front of the space, or simply telnet to the server and
delete the offending list (~mailman/lists/private/list name)

2) configure your MTA (postfix) to accept mail for: gateway.tildens.org
You probably have it set only to tildens.org.

1. I created a test list after I installed mailman. Unfortunately, the name

list. I've tried running the rmlist script, and it appears to work, but the
mail list persists. I've tried putting the name in quotes. Any suggestions?

2. I created a second test list with no spaces in the name. It works better.
However, whenever I send mail to the list server, I get a loop back bounce

[Mailman-Users] Help with mailman and postfix

2002-09-24 Thread Kory Wheatley

I recently switched from Sendmail to Postfix running on Mailman 2.1b3
Red Hat 7.3 and I followed all the instructions in the README.POSTFIX
file. I've got the aliases located in /home/mailman/data and mailman
as the mail-gid, not using virtual domains. Turned off Sendmail and
turned on Postfix and when I send a message nothing happens, nothing
goes in the queue directory, nothing goes in the mailman log files, it's

as if nothing was sent, because nothing is reported in
/var/spool/postfix.

In the Postfix configuration file (main.cf) I changed the myhostname to
myhostname= kwlinux.isu.edu , which is my Mailmans machines hostname.
I changed mydomain to mydomain = isu.edu and mydestination is setup as

mydestination= $myhostname, localhost, $mydomain and the
inet_interfaces is setup as inet_interface = localhost. Changed
alias_map to point to the alias file in mailman,
is there something I'm missing, is there something else I need to
activate on my system, or
tell my Red Hat Linux 7.3 that Postfix is now the MTA.

I doubt any FAQ would be able to tell you why your list stopped working. Is there
any chance you could look in your ~mailman/logs/error file and see if it's logging any
errors? Could you also verify that your crontask is still running? Those are the
very minimum you should start with to see if they shed any light on the problem.

[Mailman-Users] Help for a Newbie!

2002-07-17 Thread Phil Greenwood
Title: Message

I am brand new at
this and am setting up a mail list. I have run into a problem that may be
my stupidity, but I can't figure it out.
If someone posts
something to a mail list that is off (rude, defamatory, illegal) I want to be
able to delete the entry from the archive. I also want to delete all my
"test messages" before I bring other people into the mail list. I
have searched the FAQ's and although python.org FAQs includes an entry on
removing a post (3.3), the solution depends on running a script or
command. I have no idea how to do that or even how to find the archive
(other than through the normal web browser interface). Can anyone give me
some basic (noddy language) clues as to how to do this?
