Re: MI MB reading binary data

2000-09-14 Thread rajeev saraf

In MB, when you read/write a input file, you can specify the byteorder by saying high
or low. THis way you can control the oder of bytes while reading.

MI snapping to nearest node thru a program. ?

2000-08-18 Thread rajeev saraf

Hi Guys:
I have a layer of cities and another layer road network. Initially, my
cities were snapping with my road network. However, after I took my road
network to ARC/Info for cleaning, there has been slight shift in node
coordinates. Therefore, my cities are not snapping with road network
anymore. They are about 1m or so away from the nearest node.

I was wondering, if there exists a MBX or any other program that can
globally snap all the points in city layer to nodes in road layer with a
given tolerance or is there a function in Mapbasic that i could use to
write such a program?
thanks

first go to layer options ans set the projection setting to get metres instead
of degrees and run your query again and you will get the info in meters. if
the projecton you are using is already in metrs, then first set it to lat/long
and set it back to metres and then it will work.

Hi

In one of the applications I am working , I have state boundary map and
a separate database(Infra.mdb) having infrastructural facilities for
each of the states. Using a geocoding prg, I geocode the infra.mdb(Point
Layer) using the state map. Now all the infra facilities(Points Layer)
are placed one upon other at the centroid of each state . I would like
to separate out the points so that all the facilities of each state is
visible.

One tedious way is manually separating the points which I don't want to
do.

Is there any way to change the centroid of region by Mapbasic coding. Or
any other method by which I can separate the geocoded points by MB
coding. Any help is this regard would be appreciated.

Hello,

Beside what I do here on the list from 8-5 I'm
the Operations and GIS manager for the Coastal Bend 9-1-1
network.
12 counties, 22 answering points, 15000 sq mi,
1400 miles off *highway* [no cities etc] with Corpus Christi, TX being the
*major* city 300,000 pop.
AND A F-A-S-T GROWING CELL PROBLEM FOR
9-1-1

We are just now upgrading toPhase 1
Wireless as mandates by the US FCC by 31 Oct 2000 which will now give us the
[911 call taker] the cell phone number, name, and *registered* address, this
will be a 10digit ph# to take care of area codes for traveling
phones.

The best location we will get is the cell
company ID,cell tower ID, and Sector [face] which I will put into MI as
provided by the estimated 600 towers that exist[no one really knows
how many there are = 26 sellers of phones in this area].

Phase II mandates the 30 Oct 2002 we will get
location within 100meters 67% of the time. HA-HA
Feds are looking to change this date or
requirements as it has not been successful yet.
Time-Difference-Of-Arrival which triangulates
position works really good here in the hinterland but sucks in the urban
canyon. GPS is capable of being put into the phone but everyone likes
their $19.95 and not having to up that to $
like the Motorola Iridium.

For now if I can say that you need to send help
in the NW area of this location [the tower] - but some of these towers are
35mile omni-directional - it is better that saying *well, we go a cell
call*..

you can create a DEM ( raster only) in mapinfo 5.0 and greater.
first convert all your lines into pts using utility available on mapinfo
list ( i think its called allpts.mbx or similar). once you have a point file
with height data, just do athematic mapping uding grid thematic option to
cerate a continuous raster image.

Re: MI Dot Density custom symbols

1999-12-24 Thread Dr Rajeev saraf

What you may do is:
Add 10 fields to planning district that stores the total number of clients
in each program. Now you can create a pie chart or bar chart to show the
numbers for each zone in each program.

Subject: MI Dot Density custom symbols

Merry Christmas!
I am trying to make a map. I have about 8000 addresses that I have
geocoded in St. Paul, MN. Most of them are clustered in certain parts
of the city. My boss wants one, and only one, map that shows where the
clients live what type of program they are involved in and where the
programs are located in the city. There are approximately 70 programs.
I tried individual values but the map is not legible. Even if I
collapse the programs down to 10 with ten corresponding symbols that are
legible, the addresses are so close together in certain areas that the
symbols would be illegible. (If I had a large format plotter, this
might not be a problem, but the best I can do is 11x17.) I liked the
look of the dot density maps. It provided a good graphical shot of what
part of the city our clients come from. Now the question. How can I
combine the best of individual value with the dispersed representation
of dot density? And as long as I'm asking for the moon, how can I
ensure that they don't overlap with each other?
The final product would look something like this; a map of the city with
planning districts (17), within each planning district a certain number
of circles, squares, stars etc, representing the corresponding number of
clients in a particular program.
Negative responses appreciated as well, so I can start trying to figure
out a different strategy.
Respectfully submitted,
Kent

MI How useful are mapinfo user conference from business perspective?

1999-10-22 Thread Rajeev saraf

Hi Guys,
We are a VAR for mapinfo range of products here.
I was seriuosly considering going for the mapinfo user conference in florida.
However, before i make this huge investment ( it costs a lot to come from india
and there are other costs as well), I would like to consider the benefits mainly
from business perspective. I was hoping that people who have attended this event
may be able to throw some light on this aspect.
Is it a place where you can business associates?

Can substantial dialogues can be exchanges at
these places?
Are decision makers from the companies present as
representatives?

Overall, will it help my business in selling our
services?

I would really appreciate some feedback.

MI contours/point height to GRID

1999-10-16 Thread Rajeev saraf

Hello MIers,

Is there a SIMPLE software utiltiy that will
take the table of contour lines +spot heigths as input and produce as output a
GRID file:
I should be able to specify the begin and the
end coordinates of the grid file and size of the Grid. It would be better if the
grid data is written from upper left corner.
Thanks.
( I looked at VM but could not get what i was
looking for)

MI exporting window as image along with legend box ?

1999-09-27 Thread Rajeev saraf

Hi guys,
One of our clients would like to export the mapinfo output (
directly from map window) or layout window, to a software that is used for
broadasting on the TV. This is being done for election analysis where the
thematics would be generated in MapInfo and then finally sent to another
application , say photoshop for touch up.

What is the best way to achieve this. How do we capture the
window along with legend window ( but without mapinfo title bar) and in
what format for best quality output.

If I use mapinfo drag and drop, then only the map window shows
up in the other application.

MI centroidx and centroidy output as UTM coordinates

1999-09-25 Thread Rajeev saraf

I have a table of points whose projection is set
as UTM. When I update my columns with centroidx and centroidy functions, i get
the values in lat/long. Why is it like that? How do I populate my fields my UTM
values.
However, if I run SET COORDSYS command in mapbasic window and
set it to UTM, then it works fine.
any explanations

MI couple of queries ..

1999-09-18 Thread Rajeev saraf

Hi Mappers,

I have couple of queries. I was hoping to get
answer to these query with/without using mapbasic:

1. Say i create a buffer object around a point
object. I want that the buffer polygon automatically gets all the attributes of
the point object? Is this possible thru Mapinfo commands.

2. I have geocoded a list of customers to
pincode level. Now all the customers in a particular pincode are geocoded at the
centroid of the pincode boundary. Now I want to disperse these gecoded customers
uniformly within the pincode boundary to which they have been gecocoded. I tried
looking at DISPERSE.MBX, but it did not seem to have this
functionality.

I am looking forward to getting
response.

Re: MI Things that move

1999-08-11 Thread Rajeev Saraf

This is aproblem that all of us have experienced and it's really sorry state
of affairs at mapinfo that they have not fixed it.
The only solution is that you fix the zoom level at which you would like to
digitise the maps. when you view the digitised maps at that zoom level, you
won't see nay shift. so make sure you note down the zoom level when you
start digitising

Hi all you MI experts,

my problem is as follows. I 've registered some topo maps as raster images
and I 'm digitizing over them, in a new table. The thing is, as I zoom in
or out, or when I close a raster image or open a new one, all my digitized
data are moving! They seem to be OK, but when I do something and my screen
refreshes, my polylines move to different directions.

Any clues or ideas?
Thanks in advance
