MI-L MapInfo crash
Hi Everything was working perfectly when MapInfo hung on a small simple query. I killed the program via Windows task manager. Since then, I am not able to do any query, browse any selection or open any workspace. I got no error message, only a sandglass cursor is diplayed. I uninstalled the program, removed the MapInfo install directory and all the MapInfo related directories in Documents and settings. After reinstalling, it is still doing the same thing. MI-L RE : MI-L Printing to pdf ...
Catherine, The pixel limitation of MapInfo is about 28000. Let's suppose that you try to print a 27 inches map at 1200 dpi. The map width multiplied by the resolution will give you the number of pixels of your output file. In this case : 32 400 pixels. This exceeds the pixel limitation which cause the gray layout. Try to lower the resolution in your printer configuration. Good morning, I know a lot of problems are regularly reported about printing to pdf, but I never seem to hear about solutions. The problem occurs when I try to print anything larger than 27 inches. I don't get any error message, I simply lose the printable area in my layout. With anything bigger than 27 inches, the entire layout becomes grey. As if there was a limit to the size. The dimension I need is 11*29. I've tried changing the poportions, orientation, etc : no change. I dont's think it has anything to do with the map's content while I've tried with various map windows, from the most simple to more complex. Any suggestions? Re: MI-L utm-lat/long-utm converters
Ken, You can do it manually quite easily. For a UTM point table : add two columns (X, Y) and set your map window coordinate system to long/lat NAD27 (thru map menu). Update de two columns with centroid x, centroid y. Then, you will have all your coordinates in long/lat NAD27. This will work directly in MapInfo 6.5. If it does not work (MapInfo previous versions), you will have to type your change of coordinate system directly in the MapBasic window instead of setting it thru the map menu. MI-L link tables
Good afternoon, I am currently trying to link two tables from MapInfo and don`t seem to find a way to do that. Here is my situation: I have one table that is mappable and contains unique sites locations (ID, X,Y). I also have another table that is not mappable and contains the attributes (many attributes for each location) (ID, fishspecies). I would like to be able to make a selection from my mappable table and ask for example for all fish species called "CACO". How can I do this? Is it possible to link the table (one to many) or can we only join (one to one)? Jennifer, Get the new Adobe PS5 driver at : http://www.adobe.com/products/printerdrivers/main.html and use the PPD of your printer driver during the installation. This should work. Re: MI-L MapInfo v. ArcInfo
We use MapInfo and ArcInfo very frequently. In my own opinion, to do the most common GIS tasks, Mapinfo is really friendly user and of course, faster. Since ESRI decided to move ArcInfo from UNIX (version 7 and earlier) to Windows (version 8), ArcInfo became very slow and buggy. BUT, it is still very powerful to achieve many tasks like rubber sheeting, building topology, generalizing, reprojecting rasters, etc... There is another major advantage to ArcInfo/ArcView 8. The editing functions are definitly more advanced... No need to use Freehand or Illutrator to obtain good looking maps. ArcInfo 8 (or ArcView 8 which is in fact ArcInfo light) manage the layout information by layers, just like Freehand or other graphic softwares. This is really useful and quite simple to use. No problems with placing labels in a view window or text in a layout. In fact, the comparison should be made between MapInfo and ArcView not ArcInfo. ArcInfo is still more powerful than both, but really more expensive. It takes good reasons to justify paying that price. Of course, it depends on what your needs are. - List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message number: 2893
Re: MI-L Vectorization
There is an Arcinfo function able to do that. It is called GRIDLINE. Keep in mind that there is always a bit of manual corrections to do after such kind of automated vectorization. It depends on the complexity of the input raster. Re: MI-L MapInfo v. ArcInfo -compatibility?
David, I never had any problem transfering MapInfo information to ArcView and vice versa. I simply use Universal Translator to convert shapefile to tab. Keep in mind that the shapefile can't contain more than one type of entity (line, point or poly) in the same layer and DO NOT support text elements. You are going into troubles if you need to convert an ArcView project into a MapInfo workspace or if you want to keep some sort of symbology. For "layer by layer" conversion there is no problem EXCEPT FOR TEXT. MI-L Canadian provinces - Projections
Hi, I have a few maps of different canadian provinces to produce. Does anybody knows the central meridians and the standard parallels for Manitoba, Ontario, Alberta and British-Columbia for a Lambert Conformal Conic projection? Thank you Simon
Re: MI-L Absolute Workspace Paths
To get relative paths, I'm used to place the workspace in a directory which is at the same level or before the data and/or data directory. Exemple1 directory1 -workspace -data Exemple2 directory1 -workspace -directory2 -data If your workspace is placed after your data, MapInfo will automatically put absolute paths. It may look as a simplistic solution, but it works.
