MD: Copying MD to CD

1999-10-21 Thread martin . clinton

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has been covered before

A mate of mine at work has an MD of his band playing live. He's wondering
how he could connect the MD player to his PC to burn to a CD for the other
band members to get a copy. He's got a SoundBlaster live Soundcard if that
helps! The best I've been able to come up with is to save one track at a
time as a wav file via the line in on the soundcard, then use Easy CD
Creator to burn all the wavs as an audio CD...but I was wondering if there's
an easier way!

Feel free to mail me privately if you wish.

Thanks very much

Martin

That is absolutely normal and correct behavior. The music is written down
as
you record; the TOC changes are saved later (exactly when that happens
varies
from model to model). You recorded new music but didn't save the new TOC,
so
you had the old TOC and new music.

I thoght r50's stored music data in its memoryafter all, when you're
done recording, it usually flashes "DATA SAVE" before "TOC EDIT"

Re: MD: Optical Ins ?

1999-10-21 Thread ExquisiteDeadGuy

I'm pretty sure that most of the portable recorders offer optical ins, even
my entry level Sharp 702 has an optical (mini-TOSlink) input.

As for MD to MD, I have to make do with analogue recordings because my
portable doesn't have optical out and my entry level Sony JE320 doesn't have
optical out. I just do a direct (more or less) RCA cable connection between
the two units and let 'er rip. I used to have just the 320 and a E40?
portable, which despite it's dimunitive size it did a pretty good job, when
hooked into the stereo system.

Hi all.

i was just doing a little recording on my R50 (using a used hi space disc

to. however, when i played it back (to make sure the old music was there),
the new music was there, despite the fact that i disconnected all power
sources before anything could be written to the disc. The strange thing is,
only the music data changed...the toc, complete with titles is still fully
intact.any possible guesses as to why?

optical out of the deck and into the optical in on my Sony R30, turn
turn them both on and record from the deck to the porty via the digital

What about SCMS?

Yes, all of them! At least I know of no exceptions. Some decks have only
coaxial digital in (and analog in), not optical, but to my knowledge all
portable recorders have optical inputs. Usually it is a single double-duty
jack for both analog and optical input, so don't look for two holes in the
case.

| What all are you using to record from MD to MD?

Before getting my dual deck, I used an optical cable (when SCMS allowed)
from one deck to another. When I had only one deck, I used an optical
cable from the deck to the portable.

MD: Digital-direct recording from DAB tuners

Hi everyone!

Has anyone tried doing a digital-direct recording from any Eureka 147 DAB
tuners such the Arcan Alpha 10 or the new Technics digital tuner? Have you
run into problems with sampling rates or SCMS? Is it possible to make a
second-generation digital direct recording off that digital-direct
recording? This is a situation that is catered for with some decks when
cabled up to most digital satellite radio receivers, where they allow an
extra copying generation for recordings off these services.

With regards,

MD: Can I use NiMh AA batteries in my Sony MZ-R37?

1999-10-21 Thread Anthony Horan

Hi;

I've just bought a Sony MZ-R37 portable, which I'm perfectly happy with in
all but one area - battery life, of course. The unit comes with two Sony
NiCd rechargable batteries which charge in the unit itself - and Sony's
manual states that no other rechargable other than Sony's ones should be
used.

Now, a Melbourne electronics store called Jaycar (www.jaycar.com.au) has
NiMh AA-sized batteries for sale for about $4.50 each, which to me looks
like a good replacement for Sony's NiCd offering - larger capacity, less
memory effect, etc. What I'm wondering, though, is:

* Is there something particularly special about Sony's supplied batteries
that makes them different to normal rechargables, therefore explaining the
"warning" in the manual?

* Given that the NiMh batteries have a larger capacity than the NiCd's, can
I charge the NiMh batteries safely in the MZ-R37?

And, of course, would I get much benefit battery-life wise by using them?
If I recall the NiMh batteries in question (generic ones, incidentally)
quote a 1300MaH capacity (the full specs are on the Jaycar site)?

Thanks in advance to any battery experts with answers :)

this rebate? Do the other items come separately from Sony? If not does
anyone know who to contact to get this problem solved? What a crock.

MD: Creative SB Live Player 1024

1999-10-21 Thread PrinceGaz

Hi guys,

I'm back and with new kit including a new motherboard, CPU, video
and soundcard. But its the soundcard I'll bother you with tonight.

It's (as the Subject field suggests) the Creative SB Live Player 1024.
I can absolutely confirm that as well as an on-board SPDIF output
it does *definitely* have the connections for a digital I/O daughter
board. No functionality is lost.

Now all I have to do is move it from IRQ12 to IRQ5. Oh the fun of
PCs never ends:-) Its a f***ing PCI PnP card so I cant disable PnP
and select things myself. Looks like a hairy route into the M/bd BIOS
PCI setup... I'm scared! Earlier today I rendered my PC unusable
thanks to telling EMM386 to take A000-A7FF. I KNOW I was stupid
but it still took a lot of time to sort it out.

Now I wanna play with adding F000-F7FF, having already managed
to reliably maintain B000-B7FF and C800-EFFF. Apologies for
going further off-topic but I'm an optimisation freak and unless DOS
has 255 files, plenty of FCBSs, max number of buffers, virtual drives,
etc I'm not a happy bunny. Oh yeah, I want a 64K page frame for
EMS emulated memory. I want every scrap of UMBs I can grab
safely. And if the last two paragraphs sound like garbage pls ignore
this email.

Cheers,
