MD: SB-Live Player 1024
=== The original message was multipart MIME=== === All non-text parts (attachments) have been removed === I recently bought a Soundblaster Live! PLayer 1024 soundcard... On the back is a jack connector especially for Minidisc... Now the question is : is that an optical or a digital connection ? Haven't tried it yet because i'm afraid i'll wreck my (precious) optical cables... AND, in the software with the card is some stuff, especially for use with MD... Do i have to buy the daughterboard by hoontech or what ? Greetz, Dodge - Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! MD: Hitachi DVD-RAM Camcorder
Just read a brief note on E-Town about this product shown at the CES. The camcorder is supposed to record up to 2 hours of video on a 3 inch DVD-RAM disc enclosed in a plastic case with a shutter, like MiniDisc. Anybody have any more specifics, camcorder information, availability date, price, etc? but buying a Hongkong version would be better. the only thing to consider is frequency, in europe we use 60 Hz in America they use 50 Hz, I don't know about other countries, and I don't know if the md is bothered by it... -End Quoted (and cut) Message- I know it doesn't always seem like it, but England, and, I think, the rest of Britain, also uses 50Hz. Much electronic kit these days comes multi-standard. There's a switch somewhere that flips between the different voltages. So no need to worry about different flavours. When looking for a transformer, look for one that will accept whatever voltage you throw at it. The unit with my HP portable doesn't give a toss about where I plug it in. RE: MD: Strange interference... now online :)
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I'd be interested in knowing if a) anyone else on the list can hear this easily and b) anyone else has a freakin' clue what this is. And it is MD related, because I recorded it on one. :P I don't know if this will add much data to the search for the cause of the sound but I can try. I sent the WAV file through a filter set to pass only the signals above 10kHz. The result is complete silence except for the tone. Viewed in a spectrum analyser, a clear peak is visible that cycles nice and smoothly between 15kHz and 17kHz and back, with a period of about four seconds over and over for the duration of the recording. I was playing because four important things all came together today: I bought a new sound card, bought an amp with four digital ins and two outs, bought excellent shielded bookshelf speakers for my computer, and downloaded the demo of CoolEdit2000. Of course I'm going to play! If anyone is interested, Zach's WAV file modified as described above can be had at http://www.alienshore.com/md_mystery_noise.wav. Be careful though...my ears hurt before I knew how loud I'd turned it up. The lack of background noise is deceiving. You've been warned...I take no responsibility for damage to ears or tweeters or anything you may or may not own. :-) Rick. -+--- [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.alienshore.com/ - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

MD: Comments wanted: Signal path integrity
I've got a number of MDs that I made of my vinyl that I can't easily replace (no turntable!) so in addition to making duplicate MDs and putting the originals away, I'd like to make CD copies of them as well. This is the equipment I've got: Sony JE-510, Harman Kardon AVR-500 receiver (optical and co-ax ins and outs), SB Live platinum, and a Yamaha burner. The JE-510 has an optical feed to the AVR-500, which has a co-ax feed to the soundcard. I shut down all the inputs but the S/PDIF in and recorded a WAV with CoolEdit2000. After that's done I break it up into tracks at my leisure and burn the files to a CDR. I'm curious if the signal is undergoing conversion to/from analogue at any point. I know that it doesn't in the receiver, but I wonder about the mixer in the soundcard. One promising sign is that as long as the record level is at 100% in the mixer, the record level indicator readings in CoolEdit are identical to those on the minidisc deck. I know that the SB Live isn't the best card in the world for this kind of thing, but I've got to work with what I've got at this point. Any comments or thoughts are welcome. MD: USA uses 60 Hz Re: md-l-digest V2 #487
=== = NB: Over 50% of this message is QUOTED, please = = be more selective when quoting text = === I just thought I should set the record straight here. USA and Canada use 60 Hz AC power and I believee Mexico does too. Canada used to have some 50 Hz service back in the 40 and 50s ( as in 1940, 1950) I am told, but USA is 60 Hz and so is Canada now. The standard voltage in the US is 110 to 120 volts 60 Hz AC.
