MD: MiniDisc and lifestyle systems
Hi everyone! So far, the only way MiniDisc has been integrated with lifestyle systems is as part of Pioneer's new NS-series systems; and Onkyo's FR-435 music centre; and the "cube" systems offered by Onkyo and Sony. Noticeably absent from this list of implementations are companies that are well-known in the "lifestyle audio" market i.e. Bose, Nakamichi and Bang Olufsen. Has anything been done by these companies to supply companion MD decks for their lifestyle systems? In the case of Bose and BO; the decks should work as part of their lifestyle systems -- be able to be controlled by the systems' remotes or controlled as part of multi-room setups that are promoted by these companies. Re: MD: MiniDisc and lifestyle systems
It seems that Nakamichi has stopped most of its home audio business. They just began offering cassette decks again recently (in Japan), but no moves on MD. They do have a car MD set though. AFAIK BO hasn't released anything new lately. Their designs could really benefit from newer technologies, like LCD, flat picture tubes, MD, etc. Bose has the following MD decks in Japan. The info is all in Japansese. http://www.bose.co.jp/products/mdw1.html http://www.bose.co.jp/products/mds1.html http://www.bose.co.jp/products/mda8.html If just based on appearance, I'd get myself one of the Kenwood sets that can be laid out vertically/horizontally. Re: MD: emailing bird song recordings
On Wed, 28 Jun 2000, David Kuhn wrote: I am engaged in a research project involving recording bird vocalizations. I need to be able to email these recordings. I have a Sony MZ-R90 MD and a HP Omnibook 2000 laptop computer with a sound card. Can someone tell me how I can find out what is needed to get the recordings into my laptop and then to email them? Assuming that you don't mind sampling the MD output (i.e. not a digital copy of it), you could just get a cable with a small headphone jack on each end and connect the MD's line-out to your laptop's line-in. (Or use the headphone connector and/or laptop's mic, if either doesn't have a line-in/out, but that's not as good.) Then you just need something to record the samples. Sound Recorder comes with Windows but I think is still pathetically limited to 30 seconds or something rediculous. If you need longer I'm not sure what the best thing to use is, but you could go for a trial version of Cool Edit Pro which I think would do the job. Good luck! So passing a 16-bit input through ATRAC encode/decode will produce a 20- or 24-bit output signal. Sometime when I get a chance I can look at the behaviour of my MDS-PC2 and MDS-JE520 (both ATRAC 4.5) on the 'scope. A related topic is whether the sample rate convertor is active and what effect it has. My guess is that it might also increase the word length of a 16-bit signal. The JA20ES has seperately settable input and output bit legth, so I'd swear it does sample converting... greets, *---(*)---**-- Francisco J. RE: MD: Strange R50 behaviour???
Hello, You stated that unit was running "slow"... Did it sound slow? Or did it just sound as if it were running slow? If it didn't sound slow, then I would say it was the unit reading ahead on the disc for antishock purposes, but if it sounded slow, I have no idea. Sincerely, Cheers, Mark J. * Jeffrey Scorsone [EMAIL PROTECTED] on Wed, 28 Jun 2000 | Is it possible for it to slow down or or adjust pitch? There is no correleation between playback speed and rotational speed of the media. Both CD and MD are constant linear velocity (CLV) devices. When the stepper moves the pickup from track to track (media tracks, not audio tracks), the rotational speed of the media is adjusted to maintain constant velocity under the pickup. So, unless there is something different wrong with the player, it's just you. -- Rat [EMAIL PROTECTED]\ Happy Fun Ball may stick to certain types Minion of Nathan - Nathan says Hi! \ of skin. Re: MD: I HAVE A QUESTION
Hi Zach, I suspect the RM-D10P will work with your MXD-D3, but since I'm not positive I'm forwarding your note to the MD mailing list in the hopes that someone there can say for sure. As for titling with your MZ-R55, you could use Bazza's MZ-R55 to parallel port adapter and titling software, see: http://www.bazginge.demon.co.uk/minidisc.html Best wishes, Rick [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: HI, MY NAME IS ZACH GULLER. I AM VERY INTERESTED IN THE PRODUCT THE SONY RM-D10P KEYBOARD REMOTE CONTROL AND AM THINKING ABOUT PURCHASING IT. I CURRENTLY OWN THE SONY MZ-R55 PORTABLE MD RECORDER AND THE SONY MXD-D3 CD/MD DECK. I WAS WONDERING IF THE SONY RM-D10P WAS COMPATABLE OR WOULD WORK WITH MY SYSTEM MEANING THE MZ-R55 OR THE MXD-D3. IF IT WILL WORK WITH MY SYSTEM WHAT IS THE PRICE OF THE SONY RM-D10P? IF IT IS NOT COMPATABLE FOR WHAT I HAVE DO YOU RECOMEND ANY OTHER TITLERS THAT WOULD BE COMPATABLE WITH WHAT I HAVE? I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD RESPOND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE IF THE PRODUCT IS GOING TO BE USEFULL FOR ME I WILL PURCHASE IT. MD: MS stereo microphone
Anyone have any experience with Sony's ECM-MS907? It's a very reasonalbly priced mid-side microphone. I'd be interested to know if they use a specially manufactured figure-of-8 electret capsule to generate the "S" signal; I'm not aware of general availability figure-of-8 electret capsules...
