re: MD: Sony earphones
Hi macdef, The 888LP and 888SP are exactly the same except that the SP has a shorter cord. They are earbuds that sit in the outer ear. The EX70SL are the short cord version of the EX70. They are canal-phones, meaning they actually sit down in (and block) your ear canal. All right. Another thing to consider about the EX70s is that they are quite microphonic (a drawback of all canal-phones) -- since they couple to the sides of your ear canals, any scraping or rubbing of the cables will be transferred directly to your ears. In addition, you'll find that your footsteps are often amplified as well. For this reason canal-phones are generally a bad idea for exercise, especially exercise like running. This would be an enormous drawback for the use I plan to give them. If you like your SportaPros, I would *enthusiastically* recommend you try out the Koss KSC-35s. They are cheaper than both the EX70s and the 888s, and sound significantly better than both, but are lightweight and very comfortable. They are really the ultimate exercise headphone. If you want a pair, you should get them quickly since Koss has replaced them with the KSC-50, which are heavier, bigger, fall off easily, and don't sound quite as good. I like the Sporta Pro, but I feel they are too big, heavy, and maybe with too much bass. Also, when running they fall easily. That's why I'm trying to find something lighter, smaller, and which do not fall when running. -- Best regards, Javier Marcet mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _ GPG Key-ID: 0x7CAB946B | GPG Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=SendGPGKey - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: MD: Memorex and Verbatim MD's
Hi las, Does anyone have any experience with these types of MD's? I'm sure I remember seeing somewhere that Memorex weren't that great, but it might have been Maxell ones (plastic shutters). I haven't seen anything about Verbs though, whats the verdict? I have never seen Verbatim MD's Unlike MDs I have found that the quality of CDRs can vary greatly. Surprisingly, I was disappointed with some of the Vertamim CDRs that I bought. I agree with you on this, even though they are sold within the price range of supposedly good brands, I prefer cheaper CDs like Princo or Intenso. I never had any problem with either Memorex or High (or is it just Hi?? I have loads of their blanks, but I'm too lazy to get up and check) Space. The first Hi-Space :) clue that Memorex was manufactured by what ever their initials (IOP???, no that's not it) was when I noticed that the Memorex blanks said they were made in France. At that time the only country that I knew of that manufactured MDs was Japan. We were approached to by Hi Space's sales manager (at that time I thought it was his company since he was French and that's were the discs were manufactured-But he may actually be French Canadian. He told me the name of the family that owns the company, but it didn't sink in). Years later I got him to admit that Hi Space manufactured Memorex blanks. I had known from the get go that they manufactured for a brand name as well as Hi Space. He told us that immediately. Should I guess that the MDs sold under the FNAC brand (FNAC is an important French chain store selling electronics, books, CDs, DVDs, videos, and so on, which is also present in Spain)? I was going to post a message about this, as I found them last week when I was checking MDs prices on the nearest FNAC. Portables were not cheap at all, but it was curious to see FNAC-branded boxes of 25 MDs for around $2 each, which here is a good price for blanks. I think it comes down to your philosophy on blanks. Some people do not care about the packaging. They feel all of the discs are good and say that you should by the least expensive ones you can find. Then there are people who have some preferences. The last group are very specific about exactly what they want in their blanks, the color, whether they are transparent or not, the labels and slip case to look like. These people are willing to pay extra to get just what they want. I have no special preferences. However, I can't stand some blanks. For no special reason, I just don't like them. Although, again, it is for the packaging. -- Best regards, Javier Marcet mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _ GPG Key-ID: 0x7CAB946B | GPG Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=SendGPGKey - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: MD: POLL: How many of you will buy/upgrade to the MZ-R909?
Hi las, You know, one of my problems is that whenever I want to buy (or for the case build, study ... or prepare something), I either get the best one available (within my budget, of course) or I prefer not getting it. I'm usually the same way. The within my budget is a key factor. Except for the Sharp 701/2s we had very few returns on Sharp units when I was selling them. We got more Sonys back. Also, and this my just be subjective, to me the headphone amp and bass boost on the Sharp seems better than Sony. But if you are going for the latest, shouldn't you be considering the Sony MZ-R909? That would give you about a year lead time before a replacement for it comes out (if Sony sticks to it's once a year release). MD: Semi OT: new SBlaster Audigy series and ML CDRW drives
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi MiniDisc List members, Creative has announced its new series of Sound Blaster cards, based on the Audigy processor (successor of the EMU10K1), with 24-bit 96kHz wave audio and FireWire port(s). It finally has selectable 44.1 - 48 - 96 kHz output. Indeed, they look amazing. I wish there were more MD firewire connectable than that expensive and hard to find Sony system of which I don't remember right now the name. You can find more info on http://alive.singnet.com.sg/features/audigy and on http://www.soundblaster.com/audigy Also, following the topic of higher density than MD (or CD) media, there is a new technology (I read about it yesterday), called MultiLevel, that can be added to existing technologies (CD-RWs and DVD RWs), using the same optics, lasers, and everything, but obtaining a 3x increase in storage space and speed, since it uses three different scales of of opacity on CD/DVD-RWs and different depths on stamped CDs, yielding three bits in the space used by one on existing units. That means 2GB of storage on a ML CD, with a writing speed of 36X for a current 12X speed drive. And the best of it all is that Plextor plans to have one unit for sale at year's end or beginning of '02. You can find more info about the Plextor unit on http://www.cdrinfo.com (news added on August, 19th) and about the ML technology on http://www.calimetrics.com/Products/CDSpecs/CD-RW/cd-rw.html Using this technology on current MDs would yield 480MB of space, and backwards compatibility (well, not exactly, it would be forwards compatibility, meaning newer units could read/write both type of discs). MD: THIS is what Sony should have brought to market
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello fellow MiniDisc users, I don't know if any of you attended the last CES, but there was a really interesting product which received a few awards (Best Lifestyle Product, Best Mobile Device, and Best of CES), and what I think will be the final MD killer. I had never thought about buying an MP3 player..., until now. If you check http://www.dataplay.com/ you'll see the Miniature Disc. A little disc (very MD-like) of 32mm (not much larger than a quarter), and which holds 250 or 500 MBytes (there are of both sizes). They'll begin to sell on next Fall (2001), and will be price $5-$12 depending on pack size. (What a shame for Iomega, with their shitty Click, only 40MBytes and much more expensive, besides slower and I think bigger). They seem an MD clone, as there'll be pre-recorded media, as well as blank discs which you'll be able to record on your computer. The formats supported are: Write Once (WO), Multi Session Pre-Mastered (ROM) Hybrid (ROM and WO) The transfer rate is around 1 MByte/sec (Read/Write), and the wavelength of the laser is 650nm (for recording and playback). All this, together with 3.5g of weight, and 33.53x39.5x3.05mm (WxLxH) of size, I see on it a total MD killer. This is what Sony should have released. I know about the MD2 (or whatever they are called, fruit of the joint venture of Sharp and Sony), but they have not been promoted. There are no deals with third parties, and you can only find them in video cameras. I for one will love to buy these. Imagine sharing media for your PDA, video camera, portable music player, mobile phone, and as a replacement for CDRWs (with this size, I definitely prefer them over the oversized CDs). I am not sure if you can copy from the MD to the PC, and you definitely can from PC to MD (as far as the manual indicates). - -- Best regards, Javier Marcet mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain. -- Lily Tomlin _ PGP Key-ID: 0x53B1551D | PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=SendPGPKey Using The Bat! 1.49e under Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: PGP 7.0.3 Comment: PGP secured to ensure author's identity iQA/AwUBOoANpMROAadTsVUdEQK37QCgjZOOV14YNuH0snqAryuxgTXR3gEAn1+Z pdmV+sDTq0Rv52WsREFMKctA =4HDD -END PGP SIGNATURE- - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I think the USB connection is for copying from CD TC to MDS-PC3 digitally. Does anybody know if it works for Mp3 to MDS-PC3 using TC this USB connection? Also, does it work the other way? I mean, from MDS-PC3 TC to PC? Kenneth Lee has already answered you. As I had said, I didn't know if it worked from MD to PC, but from PC to MD the source can be any sound, be it a CD, an MP3, WAV, or whatever the included software can read. - -- Best regards, Javier Marcet mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] A fool-proof method for sculpting an elephant: first, get a huge block of marble; then you chip away everything that doesn't look like an elephant. _ PGP Key-ID: 0x53B1551D | PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=SendPGPKey Using The Bat! 1.49e under Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: PGP 7.0.3 Comment: PGP secured to ensure author's identity iQA/AwUBOoCYRcROAadTsVUdEQKGvACg7F2tyFPTLCPipVffDlczx9SYU/4AnjNh HnPJ5LCw1Re+/5P5sd/v4NZ3 =6EXU -END PGP SIGNATURE- - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: Selling a MZ-R90
Hello fellow MiniDisc users, how does $300.00 US sound for a Sony MZ-R90 Tourist model? I am thinking on selling mine. It includes everything the tourist model has, as the international power adapter, and I do not know what would be a good price to ask for it. (I mean, a price for which I will find a purchaser). It is of course in mind condition, and I keep the original box. -- Best regards, Javier Marcet mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. SSR No. Yes, there is. Nero (www.ahead.de) for example supports this since version 5 (or was it 4 dot something?). I think Feurio! can do this too, and other tools already implement this option, or will do so in the near future. In Nero is called on-the-fly audio decoding, and it works with both MP3 and VQF sound formats. -- Best regards, Javier Marcet mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] PGP Key-ID: 0x53B1551D PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=SendPGPKey Using The Bat! 1.48 Beta/4 under Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

MD: Headphone for my MZ-R90
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello MD Fans, I wanted to buy a new pair of headphone to replace the standard ones coming with my unit. I can't stand them anymore. What I wanted is better sound, but also that they fit well to my ears, so that they don't fall when I'm at the gym, or jogging. I have thought about the KOSS Porta Pro, but I don't like the headband, so I took a look at the KSC 35. Do these sound as good as the Porta Pro? If so why are they cheaper? Lastly, I saw the new Sporta Pro, which come with a dual headband that you can wear on top or behind head (I prefer this last position). Any comment would be appreciated. Even if I have only mentioned KOSS headphone I am open to any brand, provided they are not over, let's say $100, and are easy to wear when going out. - -- Best regards, Javier Marcet mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] PGP Key-ID: 0x53B1551D PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=SendPGPKey Using The Bat! 1.47 Beta/7 under Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: PGP 7.0 iQA/AwUBOfWjYMROAadTsVUdEQJlTACeNNbWiG/zATLp3ctuQvdx4Em2mZ8AoPqF HN2Q4CXMtOZMvWlWfn2+7soW =flFm -END PGP SIGNATURE- - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
